    I love that idea about turning your threads backwards until they catch. Pretty genius!

    Hey Marcus ,thanks so much for the video. First Dodge in 30 years, quite a lot of changes. Dealers charge an arm and a leg for oil change and synthetic ain’t cheap either . After seeing how easy you did it , Im confident to do it myself.

      I always get my oil at Wal-Mart because it's half the price of our local Advance Auto parts. The Mobil 1 I get costs about $25 for a 5 quart jug at Wal-Mart. The exact same jug of Mobil 1 at Advance is $48+.

    Thank you first time doing my wife's dodge journey , she would take it to Walmart and they ended up cracking the filter housing we didn't realize until days later and of course Walmart denied it so from now on just do it myself and lectured the wife that's why I do my oil change on my vehicle. Thank you for the educational video.

    I finished watching the video and had to add really how good this was. I mean at first I was just talking about the tutorial info, but then I noticed the camera work is on point to. Lol just excellent. Thank you again.

    The drain plug in a2017 journey is not a 5/8 socket it's a 17mm socket, but oil filter nut is still a 24mm nut.

    Nice video. Watched this before I did mine to make sure there wasn’t anything crazy. I was able to reach in and loosen the drain plug w/o having to jack up the vehicle or put it on ramps.

    A very straight forward and common sense oil change. I did laugh when you shook the oil jug. LOL

      It's a habit. I don't even know where I got it. Maybe something I poured once had separated or something, :p

    Thank you for this video! I wanted to do my car myself, but I was worried about what kind of mess the drop-in oil filter was going to make and how it was supposed to seal back. Very good information from parts and tools needed right down to getting the job done. We’ll done my friend. 👍💯

      40 bucks is a steal. Plz tell me you're not putting conventional oil in it. It needs full synthetic

    Hey Marcus enjoying all your videos do you still talk on the CB much

    • @gerowen
      @gerowen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't in a while. I still have mine set up as an emergency comms device, such as when we had a 4 day power outage earlier this year so I could keep in touch with mom and my wife if I went out for any reason; but I haven't spent much time talking to the locals since I moved. I haven't gotten around to putting my antenna back up on the hill where I would get much better reception.

    My oil plug would not come out. It finally got stripped after an hour of messing with it. What a nightmare. I hear this is a common problem with this vehicle as well as numerous other issues with everything.

    • @gerowen
      @gerowen  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's wild. Guess I got lucky and nobody over-tightened mine before. Mine does have a little blue o-ring on the drain plug that I'm not certain is factory, so it's possible it happened to a previous owner and they replaced it already.

    Hey i wanted to know if this would be the same for a Dodge Journey se

    • @gerowen
      @gerowen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Should be as long as it's that same engine. The only real difference between the various models is just the trim package, whether it has a receiver hitch, etc., but as long as you've got the V-6 then it should be the same. If you want to double check you can always call up your local Advance, O'Reilley's, etc. and just ask them what kind and how much oil you need and the part number for the filter.

    Thank you for this! When do I know for the next oil change ?

    • @gerowen
      @gerowen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't remember what the timer is on it, but I "think" it's at 5,000 miles and then it'll start yelling at you again.

      Drive it around for 20 minutes and it'll calm down. Mine usually spikes up into the 70s or even 80 right after an oil change until everything gets hot and well circulated.

    I have a question... did you use all of the 1 quart oil or where did you stop it?

    • @gerowen
      @gerowen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used it all. It takes a full 6 quarts of oil according to all the manuals and such I've seen.
