      He called KK out in a very similar spot in the late 90's or early 00's on a televised high roller final table and made a HUGE fold with something like QQ iirc ... It was one of the things that originally made him blow up in popularity like he did.

    Daniel is very good. When you play so many hands you start to know what others have. AK is over played so often and when a guy goes all in like that good chance that is the hand.
    The last hand he won entirely off his table persona. He plays such a large range of hands, he could easily be playing a straight. She didn’t entirely do the wrong thing by folding the winning hand.

    • @peterpretentious
      @peterpretentious ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yeah don't know if he's putting on the Rain Man "im doing a lot of calculations" act while working thru it, but if you play at a table long enough and actually keep track of vpip, pfr, bet sizing you can absolutely exploit players and deduce reads like this.
      berkey probably had a higher % of non-jam 5-betting or just calling with his QQ, KK, AA hands

    • @johndolph131
      @johndolph131 ปีที่แล้ว

      she did the wrong thing by folding… what did she put him on?? She calls flop with top pair, he checks turn (she shoulda bet), then he fires a hefty bet on the river and folds? Daniel most likely would have 100% bet if he had a straight draw on the turn after betting the flop. Wasn’t the worst fold in the world, but her logic didn’t make any sense the way she played the hand…

      I don't know how much more money/chips that lady had in her bag, I think most people fold good hands because they cannot afford the risk, where Daniel puts you in a tough spot with an over-bet because he can have hundred times more even if he looses that hand, and I noticed this strategy works quite well used by less good people at cash games all across the country.

    • @nalanwaters3365
      @nalanwaters3365 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @johndolph131 I have to agree with you. She played the hand terribly. 1. What is he possibly checking with on the turn? And 2. Does he really show up with a random 6 on the river there somehow as the preflop opener? Just makes no sense at all what she was putting him on. Agreeing that she really should've bet the turn. Here's a question though, what do you do if ngranou checks the turn, Ho bets, and he 3 bets? Now we're in a tight spot.

    Based on that hand reading ability 5/10. Like Seaver said he guessed the hand he hoped his opponent had because he knows it's KK, AA or AK. Also he's protecting his reputation a little by guessing AK. Negreanu knows for the anount of money involved he's never folding but if he guesses KK or AA & then puts the money in its a bad call but if he guesses AK the call is correct.

    • @jackfiercetree5205
      @jackfiercetree5205 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      He guessed AK, because if it were a higher pair, his opponent would be looking to give him more rope, along the next streets. Instead, he jammed in an attempt to scare him away from a coin flip. Daniel's best skill is putting himself in others' shoes to make more accurate guesses on why they do what they do.

    • @DaftFader
      @DaftFader ปีที่แล้ว +3

      He's guessed KK correctly before too in a very similar spot preflop on a tournament final table (and correctly folded). He's not just saying AK cos there's the most combo's of it... and it's nothing to do with his reputation as imagine folding incorrectly to AK ... the reverse to what you're suggesting (which he clearly does not worry about).
      Besides, in poker you're supposed to play against your opponents range, So if their range in that spot is KK/AA/AK, and for the amount of money it's a call, regardless if the opponent has AA/KK or AK it's a good call, as over time he'll make money from when it is AK (or when he hits a third J) even if that specific hand he looses. Dnegs understands this, so doesn't look at villain having AA/KK as being a bad call (it's just better in the short term if they don't, but doesn't matter in the long term as long as Dan's always making +EV plays in that spot), so what you say factored into his decision making can't be correct. However dan does have a good talent of narrowing ranges down further than most people (sometimes down to 1-2 possible combos of 2 cards depending on the specific opponent and their tendencies) He doesn't always get it right, but more often than not he's pretty dam close. Like the 99 hand that you conveniently didn't comment on.
      You really think he's sitting there at the table in the middle of a poker hand wondering how he's going to come off and be perceived by other people? Dan's one of the few people that it doesn't seem to matter what you think of him, he'll say or do it anyway lol, and he's got in trouble a ton of times in the past for exactly this and is unapologetic about it.

    Negreanu is one of the few who continued studying the game when he realized the young guns were using smarter math, and to his credit he studied solvers and GTO and adjusted his game accordingly...he's done very well. Interestingly, a player who did NOT study GTO or solvers, but is still a top ten winner in holdem is Phil Helmuth, which should tell everyone that his particular experience defeats solvers and GTO, otherwise he would have dropped off the map. If you want to be really impressed by an old gun, go look up the hendon mob results for Erik Sidel.

    • @iamawuss
      @iamawuss ปีที่แล้ว +18

      I’m not sure if Hellmuth isn’t actually studying solvers. At the least he would have people working for him who use solvers to extract the most useful heuristics from unclear hands he’s been in. You just can’t be solver naive at the level he frequently plays at and against the people he plays against and be a winning player IMO.

      You only see when hes right, if you are a talker and you guess all the time, and they show only those, you look like a prophet, LOL. Its an easy guess, either Dan is trying to squeeze, thus you pick up 15 K in free money with an AK shove, or its a flip, so you shove hoping to get 77, 66, 55 to fold, or AQ suited to call. If he had AA or KK hes just calling hoping to trap. Why shove with KK or AA ? You want hands like AK or AQ to come along. It just makes more sense that hes shoving with only 2 hands, QQ or AK.

Durrr would be a different story because he'd do something similar with 97 off suit, if he thinks you're weak. People are not claiming he's perfect and gets every read right. And a simple 6 would just result in a straight.
      I don't like risking my money on a simple pair.

      Daniel is top reader he's a 9.9 to 10 compared to everyone else that's how he's always been able to deal and thrive while everything else changes. Not discounting his knowledge or theory or amount of work into the new metas but he's a soul reader. And people don't change like the game changes.

      A lot of times it is just a hunch that goes well. That is why, if you have listened carefully, he almost always leaves himself an out ”or i might just be stupid”, ”or i might be wrong, who knows”...you see one clip for a few thousand hands that he plays where this ”reading” doesnt happened. It is just too damn hard to lay down a top pair. Stop being so impressed with nothing. He is a great player and obviously his winnings and trophies speak for this over the years, but dont make a god out of an ordinary man. If anyone tries to guess 10 times he will most likely be right 1,2,3 times...if you only compile these times in videos you get nothing but the deception, not the truth.

    Well it makes sense that he has ak if someone has aa or kk they are less likely to go all in because they want the action so it would be more likely to see a raise from those hands instead of an all in where ak is not a made hand so if they call your all in you still have good chances if not you just made 12k without seeing a flop

    A meh analysis from a mediocre player with 500+ live tournament record (clickbait question ) : the guy who shoves is in position towards Daniel . If he had KK, AA he would consider slowplay calling him just in case Daniel is 4bet bluffing with something like Ts9s as the player past him would probably fold anyway . Daniel believes that Allin Shove with hand worse than QQ+, AK is highly unlikely as probably he is playing tight and he already made a 3-bet against him . AK is the hand you really want to shove preflop as it has awful implied odds , because if you hit an A or K you will rarely get paid off by pocket pairs or induced bluff , if you don't hit a pair you will often have a difficult desicion postflop if you get shoved . QQ is better than AK in a sence that most flops are friendlier to them than to AK so you still might consider calling QQ as it can induce more bluffs and get more worse hands to pay it off . So it's really the instashove that narrows it down to AK as it is really automated default decision with that hand. TLDR: AK SUCKS , SHOVE IT PREFLOP .
