The crazy thing is Hellmuth is really that delusional to believe he is better than Phil Ivey at Hold ‘Em. Negreanu, being absolutely correct, just completely destroyed the wall of illusion this man has built within his own psyche to protect his ego. Harsh words but also absolutely true and an inflated personality like Hellmuth deserves that bit of humble pie every now and again. Truth was told - Ivey is absolutely better than Hellmuth in any form of poker - but also that Ivey is happy to placate Hellmuth’s ego in order to keep him thinking he has an edge when he absolutely does not. It’s always and only about the money with Phil Ivey.

i assume you dont play a lot of poker. it really isnt that difficult to put somebody on ranges of hands. most good players just dont say it out loud, so if that person happens to be a good player as well, they can change the game plan against that specific player, and run fucked up lines at them. Daniel just doesnt give a shit.

Daniel is legit so funny.
Phil Ivey is probably the greatest poker player of all-time. At his peak, circa 2008, nobody wanted him at their table. He was a killer in pretty much every format of the game: cash, tourneys, heads-up, mixed games, online, PLO, etc....You name it, he was good at it. He's obviously not the player he once was but for a period he was the most feared man in poker.
Hellmuth, despite having an unorthodox style and being a bit of a goof, is a great multi table tournament player. His record speaks for itself. He's fantastic at exploiting amateur/weaker players and he's also been able to adapt his game throughout the years in order to continue to be successful. However, as an all round poker player, he's not in the same league as Ivey.
It’s crazy to compare Ivey with Hellmuth. Hellmuth suffers from some kind of mental disorder.
Phil Ivey toda,y is not the same as 10-20 years ago. He's gone a little downhill but still great.
@@dummay22 Yeah, I know. I said that in my initial post. The game's moved on (into the solver era) and most 'old-school' pros haven't moved with the times. Ivey's still a very good poker player: he's just not one of the very best anymore.
What's your take on Negreanu? He was good then, but has evolved with the game, would you say he's overall better than Ivey now?, not saying every format but however you want to think about it.
@@whoshotya117 Good question. I'm not sure about other formats but I'd imagine that Negreanu is currently a better Hold'em player than Ivey. Unlike a lot of players from his era he's been willing to put the effort in to try and adapt/improve his game. I think he learned a lot about advanced game theory and optimal strategies from his heads-up game against Polk. Combine that with his natural ability and he's not a player you'd want at your table.
Agree with everything daniel said about Ivey and helmuth. Phil H is great in smaller buy ins against the general population but he is the fish against elite pros

I loved Poker After Dark long ago, I just saw this pop up and see that it is back in some form which is nice. I wish a version of The Big Game could come back as well with an Amateur that is staked money to compete against the pros. I think PAD did that once in an early season but it would be cool to bring that back for specials.

Daniel, Phil, and Maria are actually all very good friends. Lucky enough to meet all three at the WSOP this year and they were all very nice. Just top people in their profession with some emotions and banter. And they also all know where they stand up against Phil Ivey. Behind.

In WSOP, Hellmuth holds the advantage at 16.2M versus Ivey’s 6.7M. But these boys don’t only play WSOP events. So talking about entire careers, Hellmuth has only earned 3/4 of what Ivey has. And net worth is worthless to even talk about considering Ivey is worth about 5x what Hellmuth is worth.
Negranu is such a beast ass monster. Some of the reads and plays he had in this game was masterful.
I don't always see to eye to eye on everything Negreanu has said/done, but this was a beautiful beat down and totally on the money. Hellmuth needs to be put in his place wayyyy more like this.
