This for me is the most memorable televised quad over a full house I’ve ever seen. Each time I watch it I totally feel the pain for Negreanu. On the plus side he’s still playing his A game nowadays.
The whole event was sick. Super action every hand. Daniel flopped nuts several times just before this hand and lost it all. How he didn't go full tilt here speaks to him being one of the true GOATs.
Daniel new the options and correctly stated them, and i know he was working out the odds on each one in his head. He knew there was a chance but also knows Gus plays loose at times and its hard to figure what Gus would go all in on.
This actually happened to me some years ago in a live cash game I attended. My first live cash game ever, had 88 and flopped a set. one other guy had 99 and one of the 9's flopped as well. I rivered the 8 for quads. Good times!
I once flopped quads on a €5 twister on PP with the wheel hitting 40 I doubled up too as the guy turned Kings full of Jacks I check raised the flop and 3 bet shoved on the turn then went on to win the game by hitting a winning boat a few hands later
He called out the only 3 hands he loses to, all of which are unlikely but totally possible. Daniel had a bad habit of running into the few hands that had him crushed on this show lol
I love Daniel’s genuine look of surprise when he raises his eyebrows in response to Gus’ check on the river, as Gus beautifully rep’d that he was afraid of the four-card straight on the board
In watching Negreanu for some 16+ years I have always seen him jolly and losing with a smile on his face....however, I don't believe I have ever seen him so PISSED until just now..... Daniel handled it like the ultimate pro.....and yet you can see in his eyes the HURT and the PAIN...and twinge of RAGE.....I believe his eyes are saying...."my gut said GUS had it and I should have listened to it".
He always says crap like that. I'm not impressed. Flop could be 9-10-J and someone goes all in he'll say, you probably got Q-K or 7-8.. Wow! What a legendary read. No..its always an obvious read.
Nah, there's no way he was ever folding. You can only ever fold there if it's like a late-stage of a big tournament (like main event) and you know your opponent is an amateur incapable of ever bluffing or value-betting anything other than full houses or quads (cause 6s is the worst pocket pair on that board after all). It's just an automatic pay-off, Gus might play same way with a straight or even trip 5s considering his image. And since Daniel played so passive he could easily just have an overpair as well which means Gus's value range is super wide and you beat almost all of it with a full house. Daniel has "called out" a lot of hands, but unless you actually make the fold it's pretty much irrelevant to say "I had a feeling you had that". Like yeah, if there's a lot of action and you don't have the nuts, it's not hard to figure out what beats you.
@@TheCabIe There aren't really any bluffs on that board though that bluff shove because there was no flush draw or any reason to bluff shove there. If he had 85 or 75 he check calls. There are no hands on that board that Gus bluff shoves. He has 99, 88 or 55 everytime. Every other hand check calls. 97 check calls. 87 check calls. 95 check calls. 85 check calls. 65 check calls. 75 check calls. Gus is a loose maniac but he never bluff shoves there. It's always the nuts.
One of the best people in the game when it comes to reading people. You can't fault a man for losing to quads when he's got a full house. He's folded to better full houses before. So he is capable of making the lay down, but when do you ever suspect quads?
99.999% of players snap call that all in. The fact that Daniel actually took the time to consider that he was beat is really a testament to how good he is.
what an insane hand, there is no way on earth that daniel could lay down that hand, he made the right play..................he is a class act all the way, took the loss like a gentlemen......................
This should be the gold standard of how to act when on the losing end of any pot. Next time you see a guy freaking out over losing $200 to an open end straight draw remember this hand.
Wow Daniel doesn't show his frustration that much despite losing so much money and here I am always wanting to throw my phone everytime I lose my virtual chips lmao
The commentator is so off in this hand trying to analyze what Daniel is thinking. I would bet Negreanu is not trying to extract money but thinking about ways he's beat.
You gotta ask yourself about how losing pots like that have made Negreanu the player he is today ... and yeah ... took that beat like a pro. That’s why everybody likes him.
Kaplan: "The only thing that can save him is maybe, a 7 or an 8 coming up, slowing down the action on the turn." Hahaha completely disregarded the case 5. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I honestly don't see how Daniel can call here. I'm a big fan of Daniel, and think he is one of the best in the game, but here I'm not so sure. What does he beat? Daniel is showing a lot of strength himself and he gets raised on the river by less than the pot. So, it is very unlikely that Gus bluffs there, because it is very likely (from Gus's perspective) that Daniel calls him. And which hand can Gus have? Given the preflop action a pocket pair or overcards are most likely, but it is unlikely that Gus would play the hand like this with overcards (since then he would be bluffing into a very coordinated board, with an opponent showing a lot of strength). So pocket 9's, pocket 8's and pocket 5's are Gus's most likely hands. And they all beat Daniel's hand. 7-10 is a remote possibility, but then Gus would almost certainly not have raised but called on the river. So yes, it is not easy to get away from a full house, but here Daniel really could have found a fold I think.
Gus made a small raise pre flop. That does not in any way exclude him from having a suited 7-10, 5-6, 5-8 or 5-9, all of which Daniel would beat. And there is the overpair. Gus IS a loose player, and he sometimes try to bluff big pots. Its a matter of probability, and if you fold that hand, I bet you lose a lot more money on average, because people too easily frightens you. But yeah, he did not hesitate for no reason, but with Gus' history of bluffing, it clearly was a clever, but unlucky, call.
@@Evilhippie64 Yes good point. Gus being so loose definitely plays into it. I haven't really crunched the numbers on the range of Gus, and the likelihood per hand in the range, but perhaps a call is indeed not so bad here. And yes, there is the danger of results oriented thinking here. If Daniel would have folded to a bluff here, a lot of people would say he is too nitty.
Nah I think you have to call. Daniel is beating 5s full, an overplayed trip 5s and some kind of crazy bluff. He's getting 2.5:1. It's not a great situation but if you fold that you become too exploitable as well.
yea its always going to be a call or you lose more money in the long run. Though in this situation there aren't many times people are going to shove 6 figures over trips with a straight on the board

Daniel handled it like the ultimate pro.....and yet you can see in his eyes the HURT and the PAIN...and twinge of RAGE.....I believe his eyes are saying...."my gut said GUS had it and I should have listened to it".
Gus said loud and clear "I'm all in" but Daniel still asked "Ha?"
“You might have the nuts” my boy DNegs nearly talked himself into what would be the most legendary fold of all time
He always says crap like that. I'm not impressed. Flop could be 9-10-J and someone goes all in he'll say, you probably got Q-K or 7-8.. Wow! What a legendary read. No..its always an obvious read.
@@bignickdigger7105 That wouldn't even be an obvious read. That would be such an obvious bluff that it's not even obvious anymore.
BigNick Digger going all in with KQ is actually a garbage play
It sucks that we don't see gus anymore, was a big fan of the great Dane but now miss seeing him in poker.
One of the best people in the game when it comes to reading people. You can't fault a man for losing to quads when he's got a full house. He's folded to better full houses before. So he is capable of making the lay down, but when do you ever suspect quads?
That delayed WOWWWW from Gabe will never ever get old
99.999% of players snap call that all in. The fact that Daniel actually took the time to consider that he was beat is really a testament to how good he is.
I wud av called all in a blink of an eye.
Respect daniel.
Daniels outlook is phenomenal in the reasoning he goes through to call.
Durr would have folded and emailed Daniel some tips.
Exactly. People who said Daniel should have folded the full house would had the fastest snap call ever in their life and then rage, scream, shout.
After the check raise on the flop and the check on the river this is a snap bet fold
"ah so sick, so sick" 🤣 Legendary
Gus has such a good poker face!!!! He has the same expression with 7 2 off as he does A K suited and pocket Aces !!!
Ill never forget daniels face when he says "huh!?"
what an insane hand, there is no way on earth that daniel could lay down that hand, he made the right play..................he is a class act all the way, took the loss like a gentlemen......................
This guy has the best poker face I've ever seen. Like no emotion ever. Quite amazing.
Everything he did at the poker table conveyed information.
he was too loosey goosey, at least he wasnt eating a sandwich
Too loose goosey this time wasn't you, Daniel the doughnut 😄
This is the ultimate crossover in terms of chapters in "Why do I choose this for a living?"
Lol at all the youtube poker pros playing their 1/2's talking about how easy it is to fold set over set.
I did this once. Made $20. The host almost threw his beer stein through the window.
To this day, I'm still wondering who was the one who yelled to Gus to stop smiling. hmmmm.
Underrated part of this hand is Antonio folding AQ
Honestly at the end he looks hurt! Even if he's a millionaire losing that much in one hand is enough to make you sick
Always the biggest pot in the history of high stakes Poker. Every single video I see.
Gus blinked 100 times in 4 seconds when that 5 hit the turn. Haha.
Lies
You gotta ask yourself about how losing pots like that have made Negreanu the player he is today ... and yeah ... took that beat like a pro. That’s why everybody likes him.
Great dignity by both players!!! THAT is what makes champions.
Thats the look I make when I lose out on $11 buy in. I can't imagine 300k
I felt sad for losing €10 lmao
absolutely unreal.. sick-hand wow.
Just remember later Daniel coolered Gus when Gus had QQ and the flop gave Daniel 2 pair to the tune of 400k. So Daniel got 200 k back.
akmd114379 wasnt this episode though
Gus I am all in, Daniel "Ahhhh".
Ahhhhh
Kaplan: "The only thing that can save him is maybe, a 7 or an 8 coming up, slowing down the action on the turn."
Hahaha completely disregarded the case 5. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Antonio Sitting With AQ and Says "Out of Position Against Gus & Daniel Negreanu" and Folds...Great Comment and Very Smart Poker Player and Great Fold
Daniel's still the best
lol
"Gus is gonna lose a lot of money in this hand." Not so fast.
6:08 For thirty years of honest work for € 900 a month I earn € 300,000. Daniel spent my entire career spent or lost in 5 minutes of play.
Sad
That check on the river. So satisfying.
Hansen has always been one lucky SOB.
Not online lol.
I always appreciated how super camouflaged the cameras were.
That check on the river is probably the best play I’ve ever seen in a game of poker hands down
A river check raise is almost always a monster. Cold deck 🥶
He could easily lose to nines full like come on
Daniel: "Huh?"
Classic!
Small loss, look at those Chinese Triton player's..
One of the biggest coolers in poker history. Nevertheless, props to Gus for playing his quads that way.
Thx for the upload! Nobody saw this hand already
jan metdepet ughh
Nah I think you have to call. Daniel is beating 5s full, an overplayed trip 5s and some kind of crazy bluff. He's getting 2.5:1. It's not a great situation but if you fold that you become too exploitable as well.
yea its always going to be a call or you lose more money in the long run. Though in this situation there aren't many times people are going to shove 6 figures over trips with a straight on the board
