This was awesome! One of my fav vids of yours yet, me brudda! I actually have a small/medium collection I was thinking of messaging you about one day. Nothing too crazy, but def the possibility for some hidden goodness! I've been really tempted to reaching out to you and sending it to you as a gift! .....You know what, why not?!?
I'll def send it to you as a gift and to open on your channel! There's a funny story behind most of this collection too. One of those moments in life where you miss out on being a millionaire by just a moment! lol. So, I saw this add on craigslist back in 2009 that was for a, supposed, insane collection. I'm talkin Mickey Mantle rookies, Hank Aaron and everyone else, t206 the works. Back then I didn't know what T206 was.
I'm born n raised in Wick City, Clearwater, Florida. Which is Pinellas county. Well, people from my area know that East Lake, a city here, is really where most of the insanely rich people live other than the ones on the beaches in clearwater/st.pete./bellair
Well, this person was from East Lake and so that was a good sign to start. lol. I ended up meeting this guy who was about my age, 22ish at the time. We met in a movie theatre parking lot and he pulled up in a range rover. He hops out talking about how he and his grandfather used to collect cards together, that was his grandfather's thing and so that was how they bonded. When the grandfather passed way he inherited his collection. The guys whole thing was he was trying to sell/trade the card collection to grow his rolex collection. lololololol wow that was crazy. He was wearing a very nice rolex though.
Well, he was selling his collection and his grandfathers. I ended up buying his mostly modern collection with a dash of vintage, and one lefty gomez card, 1941 I believe, to top it off. $300 I paid for it and it was loaded with rookies from everyone modern. He did show me a little of the other stuff he had, the mantle and aaron, but I didn't know the value until 3 days later.....
I found out just how much the stuff that I didn't buy was and I called him immediately to try and trade him my cadillac STS for the cards, but the collection was gone. I had a local dealer ready to pay 10K for one mantle and one aaron rookie...... The kid sold the entire rest of the collection for $3,700.
I told him if he could get it back I'd give him $10,000 and he said it was impossible. That was an insane moment/experience. I do still have about half of that stuff I bought from him and with a dash of other stuff I've collected. That's what I want to send you, my brotha! I gave away like 20 of the best cards right when I got it to people like my dad and some others, 3 or 4 here, 2 or 3 there. And I sold some, but I still have a chunk!
I'll try to get rid of as much common/bulk stuff as I can to see if maybe I can get it in a large flat rate box or two. I hustle real hard and I've been super blessed lately and I love to share the blessings! So, what's up, me brudda? I'll copy this and email it to you as well. I wish you nothing but the best and continued success! Your channel is probably my fav to watch these days, bro! It's semi-sweet though. It motivates me to hustle, but it reminds me of that unicorn that got away! Hollaaaaa -Bulbamon

I know Dave Concepción isn't in the HOF, but I was still sorry to see him relegated to your "commons" pile. He was a truly great shortstop, and one only needs to compare his lifetime stats to other shortstops who are in the HOF but didn't come close to him. Concepción played for 19 years, all with the Reds, collecting over 2,300 hits, 950 RBI, stealing over 300 bases, winning five gold gloves and appearing in nine All-Star games. He played in nine playoff series, four World Series and was on two world champions. Compare him to "Hall of Fame" shortstop Joe Tinker, who played only 15 seasons, had a lower lifetime BA and 600 fewer hits. Davey was clearly as good or better than Phil Rizzuto and a number of others. Please don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the others don't deserve it (except Joe Tinker, who only made it in on the basis of a poem!), but it still bothers me that Concepción has never received the recognition he deserves. I'm afraid this has been the fate of a number of shortstops that were more valuable than a slew of hitters that could barely throw, catch or run but still made it in.
Thanks again for the fabulous channel, Chris. I love watching your videos, especially the ones including vintage baseball!

Great video. Generally, if you have complete sets of 70s and 80s baseball in mid grade, is it better to keep the set together to sell rather than break up, such as star lots for example?

If they are mid grade, I would generally recommend keeping it a complete set, whether you want to keep it or sell it

I have 1956 Topps Mantel, Koufax, Mays,Jackie Robinson, Hank Aaron,Ted Williams I’d estimate they would grade PSA 2-3 give or take a .5. Would you grade? I’m thinking I’d just like them slabbed to keep them safer. I was thinking SGC for the price.

Very nice Chris, I believe that pink Schmidt is a printing plate. I currently only PC Pete Alonso as an unbridled obsession, but I also obtain, sleeve, catalog, and file precisely each and every Chicago Bears card I get my hands on, and team lots “are my jam” as it were, er is…. Anyway, keep that in mind when sorting. CHEERS, and Happy Sorting my friend!!! John.

Would you buy pogs? I have a 1 of a kind misprint #7 pogcano slammer that should be in a museum. The die cast produced a destroyed slammer and I got the only known one in existence. A Wayne Gretzky pog and Mario lemieux pog. I also have an entire hockey slammer set with every team in great condition. Any idea what it would sell for?

ok 15:18 wow ... so ive been collecting and using toploaders for 35 years and to get a card out I always have to try and pound the bottom of the loader and like pull it out as carefully as I can and I always hate doing that because im afraid im going to pull it out wrong or bend it accidentally ... wow I can not believe I never knew this trick. today I grabbed a top loader with a card in it held it and took my other wrist and pounded the other wrist like he did in the video and BAMMMMM that card popped right out I can not believe I never knew this!!!! this is a MUCH more safer way of getting the card out not having to worry about damaging it accidentally.

Alright, you got me seriously considering it now. We’re on opposite coasts, so it would be risky shipping them thru the USPS, but ya got me thinking. I have a small boatload of rookie cards (mostly 80’s & early 90’s, along with a couple 70’s). Henderson, Ripken, Boggs, Gwynn, McGwire, Griffey, B. Sanders, Aikman, D. Sanders, Lott, Elway, Lafontaine, Bossy, Lindros, Yzerman, Kemp, Robinson, some Jordan’s (not rookies), etc. I think in all, they’re valued at around $5,000…..Hah, isn’t that what they all say?

What makes something a modern versus vintage and what makes a star? Is a star just someone well-known?

    • @collectorinvestordealer
      @collectorinvestordealer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Modern vs vintage just refers to how old it is. I use 1980 as the cutoff but its arbitrary. For me, pre-1980 is vintage and 1981 to present is modern.
The term "star" is also arbitrary. Refers to a star player.

Could you consider doing an intermediate level collector info video on what are rookie cards in soccer and nascar, and then maybe just other sports like Olympics, swimming, etc. ? If there are no set rules for a given sport, you should propose the rules and see if they catch on. I'm primarily thinking of soccer and it's not exactly clear what card is the rookie given how players rise up and other unique issues, how works cup national teams were pinnacle, etc. I think having a clear rookie card would be a good thing to help people get into it.

Holy crap! Those 1970 25 cent topps football boxes are the exact same as the one I have sealed and untouched that I was thinking of grading.
Having now seen one up close, albeit opened, do you think it's worth sending to grade? Should I send just the sealed inner cello pack or both the box and cello? Thanks for the great video, Chris.

    • @collectorinvestordealer

      @@collectorinvestordealer
That's what I'm wondering. I'll have to see if I can find one ebay and the like. They do grade unopened packs, right, even cellos. But not sure about the boxed ones.
