    8:55 If I had a nickel for every time I see someone that has a raw card that says “will get a PSA 10” and still ask for the PSA 10 price I would be rich. Nice jacket too, Beverly Hills Polo Club was my favorite a kid in the ‘90s.

    Love the stories as always...The HEAD-SCRATCHER--it all boils down to what someone is willing to pay and/or trade. I think back to my past and I land on 1989. I had a factory set of 1988 Topps--(only significant value now would might be the Tom Glavine) but I remember a friend swapping out the Canseco and McGwire cards for a 1962 Babe Ruth "Babe Hits 60 card" (I would suspect it would grade out as a PSA 2 maybe a 3), but as far as I consider I won the long game and it is one of my favorite cards in my collection...bottom line goes back to as always collect what you enjoy. Have a great week!!!!

  • @ObsessedCollector

    I hate when people think everything they have is gem mint. Ive had a few potential buys ruined because of Psa 10 pricing and those ROTTEN "Your childhood items are now worth a fortune!" fluff articles. I feel bad for sellers that genuinely think stuff is worth 100x what it it actually is.

    Thank you for continuing to share your stories. RE the Cello pack, i've noticed that these sorts of things seem to no longer exist in 2021. Rack Packs, Cello Packs. Any sort of full pack where you can see any card, top or bottom. Meaning like set release boxes, not special stuff at a walgreens or whatever. I'm glad the card companies wised up to that, and everything is completely sealed now.

    Also...old unopened cards have always scared me. I totally understand using caution with a $4000 purchase. People are shady. They used to search packs, now they weigh packs & boxes. Nice score on the Jeter rookies. Also, 81 Topps Baseball is deceivingly tough to find in high grade. I must have gone through 200 or 300 Valenzuela/Scioscia rookies and not a single one I had would grade a PSA 10. At that point I was happy to get a 9.

    You got 8 gold hologram Jeter RCs?! That's a nice hit. And a gap in my current Jeter PC.

    Have you ever seen “PSA 10” in the title on eBay, and the card is graded a 10 by a low end company...

    Oh man Chris, ya gotta keep these great stories coming. Can’t beat the entertainment value, not to mention the education. Always enjoy. Oh yeah, that reminds me, I have a PSA 10 1980 Rickey Henderson rookie card. I’m sure that’s what it would grade, it’s really nice. It’s worth $95,000, but if you’re interested, I can let it go for $40,000? Was this moron serious? Some people are so dumb.

    Saturday I went to our monthly card show. I saw a real nice AL Karine rookie the month before. I had told the guy I wanted it if he still had it after I sold a couple cards. He still had it but marked it up $500.00 in front of me. My deal went through today. Should I still buy from him? Card is not graded but comes with some kind of an auto authentication. 🙄 It's so pretty but I would normally pass.

      I can't really advise without seeing the card in person, but a $500 mark up seems a bit extreme.

      Does an autograph on a 1950's rookie card affect its value either way?

    • @collectorinvestordealer
      @collectorinvestordealer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on a lot of things... how clean/presentable is the autograph, and is it authenticated and by what company?

    • @rhondasimms554
      @rhondasimms554 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@collectorinvestordealer it's that AL Karine I talked about. Not graded but some kind of separate signature authenticationand it's a clean, very nice auto. Just in general I wondered if autographing decreases the value. I know I'm obsessing over this card!

      @rhondasimms554 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      BTW, the cost of the card is $1,500.00.

    Such interesting psychology with people(guys, really) and their cards... when I most recently returned to the hobby I exhibited the same mindset: 'Wow! Look at these(PSA 10... what's a PSA 10?... nevermind... ) ... these prices!'.. I was seeing 10s all over the place in my collection from the 1970s... Took me months of getting up to speed on the state of the hobby and grading just to realize what a unicorn a PSA 10 really is... as a favor, I try to disabuse all of the folks I buy from of the notion that PSA 10s(for vintage stuff, which is my area) are a realistic goal... On the other hand, it was pretty exciting in those early days when I thought I was suddenly rich...

    Hi, I enjoy your channel and watch every show. On a previous vid, You said that beckett has the most "lax" grading standards, so I did some research and found that the population reports disagrees with you. For example, 1975 Topps Baseball, for PSA, 1% received a 10, 20% received a 9 and 51% received an 8. Compared to Beckett where only .01% (1 out of 10,000) received a 10, 4% received a 9 and 20% received an 8. And its the same story for years1973 and 1978 Topps baseball. Its PSA that has the "lax" standards, not Beckett.

    Now that I have a reputation at work being “the card guy” I’ll have coworkers approach me thinking they’ve hit the jackpot only to tell them their incredibly available card isn’t worth $1000 like they had thought it was. Explaining the grading process of cards seems to really confuse people. 😂

    It really bothers me too when sellers become graders with their naked eye. I use a couple of tools and still miss something PSA sees. Let the pros do the official grading.

    Some people think a PSA 6 is a mint condition card that would grade a 10 lol What world do these people live in? because I got to go to that world and make a few sales lol

    How was that random EBay Lance Parrish card graded a PSA 10? Just looking at the border, the right side seems wider than the left. Weird.
