Chris, I appreciate your transparency as far as what you paid for each card or set.. Most people don't give the price they paid so it's nice to hear you invite us along. Some very nice cards!

I finally went to my first show in 2 years a few months back. Found some deals in the dollar bins and boxes at first. Then later on in the day, one of my bucket list cards I found. A 1996 Topps Chrome Kobe Bryant PSA 9 with zero greening. I was able to acquire it through some negotiation. Card shows are a great way to meet new collectors and hobbyists. Thank you Chris for sharing your awesome finds from Chantilly. Love the unopened hockey packs at the beginning also even if they're not pricey. I have over 300 unopened boxes and packs in my PC dating back to 1979 Hockey so it's become a big part of my collection. Just gotta find the time to inventory it all lol

are there always 1-5 $ dollar bins at most the shows? I've got a show near coming up on the weekend and I've really been trying to save up for it☺️I'm really excited!

Would love to see a video of you sorting these cards and kind of just hear your thoughts out loud. Like see how you lot cards together, what platform your putting certain cards and lots on and why, maybe a few examples of what you're looking at when considering grading and why you think it might get a certain grade. Basically just seeing why your putting this card in this pile and that card in that pile. Would probably be a long video but I would watch it lol. Or maybe sort it live and let us pick your brain while doing it. I personally love sorting cards. Been collecting for years but never really sell, I just love going through them. Anyways just my thoughts. Love your videos and keep it up.

Thank you for every single video you make. The amount of knowledge you provide is greatly appreciated as I'm sure it has helped many of us avoid rookie mistakes that come with the hobby.
I live in Tijuana Mexico, and I started asking my neighbors if they had any baseball cards just taking up space, I've gotten about 90% NO as an answer but the other 10% not only said YES they actually just gave them to me or I've only paid the equivalent of $5 in pesos. The best one and also the funniest has been a grandma that sold me her sons baseball cards from the 60s all the way up to 1971. He didn't want to give them to his son who asked him for them just a few days before I knocked on her door and since she didn't want them in her house she sold them to me. In that collection I found a 1968 Hank Aaron in NR-MT condition and a bunch of other HOFs including some rookie cards along with a bunch of commons as expected.

I went to the Shriners in MA over the weekend. Took a piece of advice from the Sewall investment strategy and picked up a Christie Brinkley 2005 Topps chrome psa 10. POP 5 in a psa 10, and it was chillin in a bulk slab box. Planning to list high with an OBO option, and mention the pop count in the listing. Also a great card for my display case at shows when I set up myself (usually at least 2x monthly). Great video as usual Chris!

Very interesting purchases. When you buy cards that have probably been in screw down holders for a while (like the Schmidt rookie in the video), do you open the holders first to make sure that the cards haven't become stuck to the holders? You probably don't carry around a screwdriver with you at card shows. Have you ever bought any cards in those cases that got ruined when you tried to take them out of their holders?

Good point about not worrying much about mistakes early on.
One of my worst mistakes was picking up two malachi flynn autos for 50 and 60 dollars each. I still root for him to do well, but it's a big investment when I had really only seen a video compilation of his highlights and practices before his rookie season had even begun. :D
I also put a gold Kyle Lowry auto up for auction and it went much below what I might have sold it for with some buy it now listing. The goal I guess is to take note and avoid those risky choices.

Man, talking about making mistakes. My biggest mistake was not offering enough on a deal. Ended up missing out on something that was worth way more than I even thought. I was trying to get a good deal to make money of the deal, but I underestimated it's value and the guy (who wasn't a card guy) walked.

I really like that bowman tiffany set. You ever notice fleer glossy gets nowhere near the respect that the tiffany sets do? Granted I don't know the print run of the glossy, but I'm sure it pretty low.

Great video, Chris! You bought some cards in screw-down cases which are notorious for destroying cards. Do you check that the card in a screw-down is in okay shape before you buy it? Or ask for a discount for a card in a screw-down and roll the dice?

Thanks Chris for the recap of your latest buying spree. Did the customs inspector open your suitcase when you went through the airport, thinking your cards were bundles of money? I just saw a video yesterday, showing how TSA agents in America regularly seize hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash from unsuspecting travelers.

Haha yes they did! It happens to me everytime that they check my luggage when I am carrying cards.

Looking forward to the Toronto Sports Card Show this weekend, Nov 11. The biggest in Canada I think. First one in over 2 years. And on Hockey Hall of Fame Weekend.

I have a question(s) unrelated to the topic of your vid if that’s OK. I don’t understand some of the comments I see in the titles of eBay listings such as: Set Break, or Freshly Graded. I think I understand what they mean: Set Break means someone is breaking up their set and selling the cards individually. My response to that is so what? So what if the card is from a set or not. A cards stands in its own merits and it shouldn’t matter where it came from. Freshly Graded means they just got the card back from the grading company. My response is the same: so what? Do buyers really care if a card comes from a Set Break or is Freshly Graded? Thanks for your time if you can answer these questions. John W.

Good question and I dont really know. I would guess those are more put in the listing titles for search purposes more than anything else.

Superb video as usual Chris. When you say "5% of book" which price guide are you referring to? And do you look up prices live at the card show or just estimate from memory? Thanks as always.

    • @collectorinvestordealer
      @collectorinvestordealer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I am using Beckett Monthly magazine. I dont look up prices at the show, but that particular dealer had priced them that way, and included the book value on the sticker (example: BV: $900, Asking Price: $45)

@@collectorinvestordealer Thanks Chris. I remember Beckett when I was a kid. Hadn't realized they still had print copies of price guides. Now I know what I'm getting for the holidays! :)
