The Dirty Down Rust is actually from the movie industry and is an acetone based but water soluble paint. What works best is to put on a coat by dabbing it on where ever you want the rust and let it dry completely. It looks OK with one coat but the magic happens when you take a small brush and put clean water on it then dab over the dried rust. The water reacts with the paint to create a more realistic looking rust texture. I will sometimes add water to the rust paint to dilute it a little and then spatter on as the last layer to really sell it. Oh and ….. I always thought it was better for creators to not worry about their nails. That way you know they are a real crafter because they constantly have ink or paint or whatever from a recent project on their hands. Spend more time doing what you love not worrying about your nails. They are just gonna get messed up anyways.
Love this video ❤ nails look great but who cares what your hands look like when their so very talented. I’m always too busy in watching you work to even notice . Keep being yourself x
I really could’ve used this tutorial/idea a few weeks ago when I was drawing a blank for lighting in a project I’m working on! I love your lights, your creativity never ceases to amaze me. By the way, you can clean rub n buff off with odorless mineral spirits. It’s usually in the art supply aisle with the oil paints.
You clever girl! I never would have tried taming a rubber thing with glue and paint. Great looking lamps, so thanks for sharing! I've been told I have "man hands" (an old Seinfeld episode started the teasing). Paint, ink, glue remnants, and jagged nails reinforce the claim, and nail polish amplifies the un-lady-likeness of my hands, and it doesn't last long, 😆. Love your videos!
You do such great work, so creative. I work with my hands and my nails are always a hot mess. I tried nail polish but it only dried them out worse then they started splitting so I gave up. Just oil them everyday it does make a difference. Have a wonderful day
Oh wow..brilliant😍 two things ..isn't it funny how you see things differently while editing and wish you did this or that ..happens quiet often for me. Second..don't send that viewer to me, jeesh my hands are so torn up..I have true artist hands. I use to wear dressed nails always and did them myself as well. But they would just get ruined. It took time to get use to it, I felt naked at first😂 I loved seeing your nails unpainted, because it made me feel more comfortable and less insecure about mine. 😂 People Are People!! These recycled lights are awesome my friend!!❤🥰
@@queencityminisCute color, too! I HATE the feeling of having my nails painted, but if you don’t mind it, then it makes sense to paint your nails, same as your minis. Maybe we will eventually see some of the nail art products actually ON your nails sometime? That would be a hoot! 😂
Came here to say this too! I genuinely started watching your channel after seeing someone crafting without painted nails as I found it relatable! I sometimes paint mine for fun but it is always chipped within hours because of, you know, doing stuff 😂😂😂
Love how your creative mind works. You have me looking at things around my house that I wouldn't generally have thought of for making miniatures. Another great video. Thank you ☺
Shyra, you did it again! I don't know how you come up with these ideas, but these little lamps are too cute! TFS! P.S. Your hands are fine, with or without polish!

Currently wrestling an eczema flare....your hands are lovely and I have paid more attention to what the hands are making not the hands themselves lol Carry on creative Queen.😅
LOL. That should probably be an "imaginative" mind. Otherwise, it would be saying that her mind is imaginary, as in it isn't real. 😂 But we all know what you mean! And I have to agree with you! I call it a "third eye," and I don't have one!
@@marygatdula2744 Thank you, sometimes words pop in my head and I think "what? Is that even real?) I need to pull out good ole fashion dictionary. Shyra has a very real mind and imaginative. Love her videos and personality. Thanks for the correction.
@agneschrismer9946 I make up my own words sometimes when I don't know what something is called. And I pretty much consistently mispronounce words! LOL My sisters are always laughing at and teasing me! They actually made up a dictionary of the words I made up with definitions as a joke! Aren't they just hilarious! LOL
OKay..I thought I was looking at all things possible for miniatures... suction cups..hummm GREAT lamps!! Have I seen a wedding ring on your hand? Been missing you gal...glad you are back! How is your wonderful big dollhouse coming along?
Thank you! I am wearing a ring, but it's not a wedding band. You won't be seeing my engagement ring anymore. My ex fiance and I broke up in March. I wore it for a while afterward.
Asbestos hands? Sure because you have nothing else to do with your days than just crafting and doing your nails? I think sometimes people forget that most TH-camrs have real jobs and lives outside of social media, not to mention perhaps different priorities. Pffft! That sort of silly, judgy, nonsense grinds my gears. You're incredibly talented Shyra, and I'm ever grateful that I get to see a glimpse of that talent on your channel. Actually watching you make those light fixtures, I thought they might work in that pub scene you were planning on making a while back, or I could just imagine a couple hanging low over a pool table, or in a workshop, or, or, or.... too many ideas! lol
These are great! TY so much for another awesome video. I love the "trash to treasure " mindset so much. What could be better than keeping stuff out of landfills AND creating amazing minis at the same time?
These look so cool. Now I’m idly wondering what would happen if they got smushed. But I make jewelry so of course that’s what I always wonder. Also since I make jewelry I have what I like to call working man’s hands. But you have to say it with a southern accent.
Love your lanterns and every little thing you do. What does asbestos hands even mean?! I prefer the look of natural nails. Don't let anyone tell you what to do. ❤
And probably NOT a crafter, unless she/he wears gloves for every project! LOL. If I'm wrong, I wish they would share how they keep their nails and hands from looking like mine! 😂
Sometimes people comment the rudest things. If you like painting your nails keep it up but only if you enjoy it. Long time viewers of my channel have seen my nails go from nothing stress stubs to glittery fancy nails and back and forth 🤷♀️💕Lesley
First! these are soo cool. And give me so many ideas! So thank you. Second- I'm not even sure what that comment would mean? Some people have way too much time on their hands if going on the internet and making rude comments is part of their day. They need a hobby..like you have. Also most crafters have hands that look exactly like yours because we use our hands for creating.. not for being a poo head 😂
These are great, Shyra. Using the silicone suction cups is very effective, but I know of another method that uses a "trash" item you haven't tried. Too complicated to explain here. You can clean Rub N Buff out of paintbrushes with mineral spirits.
@@queencityminis You're welcome! I sent you a message on another platform with details about the other method I mentioned. My comments don't seem to post here when I mention the other platform, but your message there says you are not very active. Hope you can find it!
Ella & I really enjoyed this. Your nails look very nice, but you are just as talented with them unpainted. What the heck are asbestos hands anyway?? Some people’s children..
"Asbestos hands?" Really? I guess that means anyone who actually uses their hands for anything other than picking their nose has those same hands! Full disclosure: I have noticed your hands many times. I find them entertaining. They have a lived in look that i find appealing, maybe because my own look the same, except more scarred (frightened animals lash out sometimes). Be you, Queen. Be you. ❤
These are amazing!😍 And whomever felt the need to make such a horrible comment (nothing at all wrong with your hands or nails) probably hasn't seen the outside world in a long time as they don't leave their troll hole (and they probably have an asbestos face na na nana na!)🙈🤣
The lamps are fantastic - as always & if I had even half your talent I'd be happy! @jojosmumdorothy2829 I didn't see the original comment so I'm not sure what was said about nails but if it was your comment that inadvertently started the 'how rude' snowball then I'm gathering that you're from the UK. (or maybe are just familiar with the asbestos reference) Coming from the UK, I know exactly how you meant it and can vouch for the fact that this expression is really common and in no way offensive. To anyone who's not aware, asbestos is a material which is heat resistant so can withstand high temperatures without being adversely affected and the 'saying' in question originated about chefs who could seemingly stick their hands in any boiling liquid or heat with little or no effect I've always used "you must have asbestos fingers" but I also say "you must have an asbestos mouth" (particularly to my other half when he eats things straight out of the oven or has an extremely hot & spicy Jalfrezi!) it never occurred to me until reading these comments that it could be taken as derogatory but, obviously it has been. If I come across an expression or word that I'm unfamiliar with, I Google it first, which has proved useful on more than one occasion. I love QCM & this community but feel that the distance across the pond has led to unfair ridicule on this occasion as, honestly, it's not an insult. As I said, I can't comment on the 'nails' part of it (except to say that colour's gorgeous 😍) Ps. I have asbestos fingers and am proud of it cos when I'm dealing with hot glue, it's most definitely an advantage 👍😁
Some people need to learn that other humans don't exist to fit into their vision of beauty. Comments about others' appearances always tell more about the person making the comment than the person they are bullying.
I am ready to FIGHT who ever said anything about your hands!!!! Crafters, artists, etc. use our hands to make stuff!!! I’ve never noticed anything about your hands, but as someone else who crafts and does things my hands have cuts, scuffs, stains and inconsistent nail length due to thin ass nails getting damaged, etc. even super glue spots I get here and there. But you can also paint your nails if it makes you happy❤
I was gonna comment and say how lovely ur hands look.... but damn... now that i know someone said something rude to you.... i feel bad. Anyway thank you for this video! I was literally just saying today that i need to learn to make pendant lights. I need a much smaller scale tho. Like 1:24. Any suggestions? 😊❤
Once again, a simply simple idea that would NEVER have occurred to me............Thank you! PS I have no idea what "asbestos hands" are, but just to be argumentative, I have always found that the miniaturists that make content with plain or only polished fingernails a bit more to my taste. There was one who constantly had glittery nails with all sorts of bits attached...................much too distracting! Just my 2 cents......

That way you know they are a real crafter because they constantly have ink or paint or whatever from a recent project on their hands. Spend more time doing what you love not worrying about your nails. They are just gonna get messed up anyways.
Wow! Thank you! I'll try that the next time I use Dirty Down Rust. I appreciate the help.
Awesome! I make "ice cubes" out of those suction cups. Now I'll have another use for them!! Love it! ❤
That's so cool!
I love your stashes of random bits. I now horde every interesting looking item I come across. Great tutorial and your nails look lovely.🥰
Oh thank you!
Love this video ❤ nails look great but who cares what your hands look like when their so very talented. I’m always too busy in watching you work to even notice . Keep being yourself x
😊 thank you
I really could’ve used this tutorial/idea a few weeks ago when I was drawing a blank for lighting in a project I’m working on! I love your lights, your creativity never ceases to amaze me. By the way, you can clean rub n buff off with odorless mineral spirits. It’s usually in the art supply aisle with the oil paints.
Glad I could help, even though it's a bit late 😉
You clever girl! I never would have tried taming a rubber thing with glue and paint. Great looking lamps, so thanks for sharing! I've been told I have "man hands" (an old Seinfeld episode started the teasing). Paint, ink, glue remnants, and jagged nails reinforce the claim, and nail polish amplifies the un-lady-likeness of my hands, and it doesn't last long, 😆. Love your videos!
Haha thank you! The rubber definitely painted up better than I expected.
You do such great work, so creative. I work with my hands and my nails are always a hot mess. I tried nail polish but it only dried them out worse then they started splitting so I gave up. Just oil them everyday it does make a difference. Have a wonderful day
Thank you so much! I've never thought of oil.
Just brilliant ✨✨✨✨these are amazing thanks for sharing ❤❤❤
Thanks so much 😊
Oh wow..brilliant😍 two things ..isn't it funny how you see things differently while editing and wish you did this or that ..happens quiet often for me. Second..don't send that viewer to me, jeesh my hands are so torn up..I have true artist hands. I use to wear dressed nails always and did them myself as well. But they would just get ruined. It took time to get use to it, I felt naked at first😂
I loved seeing your nails unpainted, because it made me feel more comfortable and less insecure about mine. 😂 People Are People!!
These recycled lights are awesome my friend!!❤🥰
If I have time, I'll add the missing details I notice while editing.
I got a ton of nail stickers on Temu, so I'm enjoying doing my nails.
I love your work! You are amazing. You are definitely blessed with a creative talent
Thank you so much!
“I like to avoid measuring”
Likewise!
Same!!😊😊
Preach
Wow no one needs to be commenting on your nails. The polish is cute but on;y do it when you feel like it!
Exactly!
It actually is fun to paint them so whatevs!
You have beautiful creative hands ! ❤
Love how your creative mind works. You have me looking at things around my house that I wouldn't generally have thought of for making miniatures. Another great video. Thank you ☺
I'm so glad! Now nothing seems like trash to me.
Great idea! I've never thought of using suction cups for lamp shades
You should! So much fun
Too cute, so well done. Thank you.
You are so welcome!
Great creations! Suction cups can be great miniature bowls too :)
Great idea!!
Such a wonderful idea. I am looking forward to trying this
Have fun!
Shyra, you did it again! I don't know how you come up with these ideas, but these little lamps are too cute!
TFS!
P.S. Your hands are fine, with or without polish!
Thank you so much!
These are fantastic, I would never have thought of using suckers for lamps, now I just have to find the ones I have, not sure where they are 🤔, love the ones you have created, tfs x Julie 🇬🇧
Thank you so much! I hope you find them
Genius
Thank you 😊
I ❤your “work” 😊
Thank you so much 💓
Excellent ! Been waitin on a utility light tutorial. Cant wait to try Shyras "bad Larrys". TY
Glad to help! Haha
Currently wrestling an eczema flare....your hands are lovely and I have paid more attention to what the hands are making not the hands themselves lol
Carry on creative Queen.😅
Best of luck! I hope your flare is over soon.
Thank you 😊
I love your imaginary mind.(is that even a word?) Great lights.
LOL
My sisters are always laughing at and teasing me! They actually made up a dictionary of the words I made up with definitions as a joke! Aren't they just hilarious! LOL
@@marygatdula2744 Lol
Thank you!
I sold the big dollhouse because I was moving. It was too enormous to take with me. It went to a great new home.
To hel* with whomever said that! These are great! Thank you!
Glad you like them!
Great ideas. Thanks ❤
You are so welcome!
OH...these are SO goooood !
Thank you so much 💡
Asbestos hands? Sure because you have nothing else to do with your days than just crafting and doing your nails? I think sometimes people forget that most TH-camrs have real jobs and lives outside of social media, not to mention perhaps different priorities. Pffft! That sort of silly, judgy, nonsense grinds my gears. You're incredibly talented Shyra, and I'm ever grateful that I get to see a glimpse of that talent on your channel. Actually watching you make those light fixtures, I thought they might work in that pub scene you were planning on making a while back, or I could just imagine a couple hanging low over a pool table, or in a workshop, or, or, or.... too many ideas! lol
Thank you so much! This is a very supportive community
I used to use mentholated spirits to clean rub & buff from paintbrushes. I wouldn't use my favourite brushes with natural fibers though.
Thanks for sharing! I wouldn't use my fave brushes either.
These are great! TY so much for another awesome video. I love the "trash to treasure " mindset so much. What could be better than keeping stuff out of landfills AND creating amazing minis at the same time?
So true! I love it
I guess I am already helping to finance nail polish😉
Yay! Thank you 😊
These look so cool. Now I’m idly wondering what would happen if they got smushed. But I make jewelry so of course that’s what I always wonder. Also since I make jewelry I have what I like to call working man’s hands. But you have to say it with a southern accent.
I think I'll bend and flex them to see if the paint fails. Hmm
I've got working man's hands, y'all
🎉what a great idea 🎉😊
Thank you! 😊
Love your lanterns and every little thing you do. What does asbestos hands even mean?! I prefer the look of natural nails. Don't let anyone tell you what to do. ❤
I learned it means your hands are heat resistant. Mine definitely are! I'm glad I took it the wrong way bc I've been enjoying doing my nails.
These are great!
Pffft you don’t need to paint your nails if you don’t want to! Whoever made that comment is kinda rude.
And probably NOT a crafter, unless she/he wears gloves for every project! LOL. If I'm wrong, I wish they would share how they keep their nails and hands from looking like mine! 😂
@@marygatdula2744 exactly!
Haha true
It was definitely rude, but also funny!
Sometimes people comment the rudest things. If you like painting your nails keep it up but only if you enjoy it. Long time viewers of my channel have seen my nails go from nothing stress stubs to glittery fancy nails and back and forth 🤷♀️💕Lesley
Yes! Thank you! I do like it. It is hard to do nothing while the polish dries though.
First! these are soo cool.
Haha, maybe!
This is why I've been saving little random bits. I'm not very talented or imaginative, though.
PS, your nails look really nice. ♡
Neither am I, but I'm a pretty good copycat!😁
@@marygatdula2744 ♡
I'll be your muse! Copy me
🎉omg I think I said that but it means your great at holding hot stuff. I didn't mean it In a horrible way I'm so sorry if it upset you 🎉😊
I understand! I thought it was really funny and wanted to tease 😆
@@queencityminis you naughty girl lol 😆 xx
Willy Wonka would be jealous of your imagination
Thank you! That's a high compliment.
These are great, Shyra. Using the silicone suction cups is very effective, but I know of another method that uses a "trash" item you haven't tried. Too complicated to explain here. You can clean Rub N Buff out of paintbrushes with mineral spirits.
Great tip! Thank you
@@queencityminis You're welcome! I sent you a message on another platform with details about the other method I mentioned. My comments don't seem to post here when I mention the other platform, but your message there says you are not very active. Hope you can find it!
🎉
Asbestos hands? Wtf?
Love your video as always!
Yes! Thank you! That comment made me laugh
Ella & I really enjoyed this. Your nails look very nice, but you are just as talented with them unpainted. What the heck are asbestos hands anyway?? Some people’s children..
Haha idk what asbestos hands are, but it was an accurate observation.
"Asbestos hands" 😂 I never paint my nails because *healthcare worker* and they would get messed up with super glue/acetone based stain/tape anyway!
Mine met messed up easily during remodels.
Be you. ❤
They definitely look lived in 😆
These are amazing!😍 And whomever felt the need to make such a horrible comment (nothing at all wrong with your hands or nails) probably hasn't seen the outside world in a long time as they don't leave their troll hole (and they probably have an asbestos face na na nana na!)🙈🤣
Haha she meant my hands are resistant to heat! I didn't know that was a term over the pond
(or maybe are just familiar with the asbestos reference)
Coming from the UK, I know exactly how you meant it and can vouch for the fact that this expression is really common and in no way offensive.
To anyone who's not aware, asbestos is a material which is heat resistant so can withstand high temperatures without being adversely affected and the 'saying' in question originated about chefs who could seemingly stick their hands in any boiling liquid or heat with little or no effect
I've always used "you must have asbestos fingers" but I also say "you must have an asbestos mouth" (particularly to my other half when he eats things straight out of the oven or has an extremely hot & spicy Jalfrezi!) it never occurred to me until reading these comments that it could be taken as derogatory but, obviously it has been.
If I come across an expression or word that I'm unfamiliar with, I Google it first, which has proved useful on more than one occasion. I love QCM & this community but feel that the distance across the pond has led to unfair ridicule on this occasion as, honestly, it's not an insult.
As I said, I can't comment on the 'nails' part of it (except to say that colour's gorgeous 😍)
Ps. I have asbestos fingers and am proud of it cos when I'm dealing with hot glue, it's most definitely an advantage 👍😁
Haha, it wasn't JoJo. That's such interesting insight! Thank you
@@queencityminis 👍🤗 (& good news JoJo)
Going to binge watch some of your videos later later....Yesssssssss, that's my evening sorted!
Those lights are gorgeous!
Where do you get the narrow tip for your glue bottle?
I got them on Amazon!
Some people need to learn that other humans don't exist to fit into their vision of beauty. Comments about others' appearances always tell more about the person making the comment than the person they are bullying.
That is too true!
❤❤❤❤
I am ready to FIGHT who ever said anything about your hands!!!!
Crafters, artists, etc. use our hands to make stuff!!! I’ve never noticed anything about your hands, but as someone else who crafts and does things my hands have cuts, scuffs, stains and inconsistent nail length due to thin ass nails getting damaged, etc. even super glue spots I get here and there.
But you can also paint your nails if it makes you happy❤
Hear hear! I agree. My hands look especially crazy when I'm remodeling.
🥰🥰🥰🥰👏👏👏👍👍💯💯💯
That was kind of rude about someone about your nails if you choose not to paint your nails that's your business❤❤❤
Haha thank you
The nail tape is just for masking, that's why it's glue is so weak
That makes sense!
I just Googled it, and there are mini suction cups! That would work for half scale.
@@queencityminis wow thank you! 😃
Where do you get the little bottle for your white glue, please?
I got them from Temu and Amazon
@@queencityminis thank you!
Happy to help!
I won't overdo it lol
