Learn how to make miniature "glass" jars with simple everyday items. I used hot glue sticks, paper fasteners, colored pencils, buttons, paper, and string. Decorating the jars was a lot of fun.
www.etsy.com/listing/14639576...
This isn't the file I used, but I really like the variety offered and the "lids" that are included.
I can't find the files I bought on Etsy. I don't see a record of it in my purchases, and I can't find them by searching. It's possible the seller deleted the listing. The files weren't in 1:12 scale when I printed them. They printed "too big" (and I used those labels for the larger jars). I had to print them again and make my best guess about what size they should be. I printed them at 55%.
I have lots of projects planned ranging from scratch made accessories, abandoned miniatures, furniture makeovers, accessories, kits and Dollhouse Miniatures in multiple scales. I also have a large Harry Potter build planned for 1" scale.

The coupon section of the Sunday newspaper can provide product images, which can be cut to use as labels. The coupons usually feature a small photo of the product, and if you don't plan on using the coupon to save money on your groceries, or if they are already expired, you might as well put them to good use for your miniatures.
That's a great idea! The grocery store circulars would be good for that, too.
Who gets newspapers anymore?
goodness that is genius!
Great tip!!
Great tip!
Not only are you incredibly talented but as a viewer, it was so refreshing to watch a calm, straightforward tutorial that's not followed with the usual trumpet blowing accolade that many feel pressured to add. I loved this & you've gained another subscriber 👍🙂
Wow, thank you! I really appreciate that 💖 Welcome to the channel!
Hahaha! I couldn't agree more. The trumpet fanfare at the end of some craft tutorials really does my head in! x
Well said! My sentiments exactly
I love this description 😂
I love the realism of keeping a bit of the jar empty. Canned foods always need to have that space to be safely processed; it's called "head space."
I didn't know that! I'm always learning from you guys. Thanks for sharing 😁
I believe that the heated air in the headspace shrinks at it cools. It creates a vacuum that seals the lid to the jar.
@@fredericapanon207 Exactly. If you don't have the head space, the contents will force their way under the lid, preventing a good seal.
I used to be Mormon and canned all the time 😂
The fact that you had soo many options that I couldn't make up an excuse for me to not do it out of laziness 😆 These are too freaking cute not to make!!
😆 That's a good point
Parabéns lindíssimos ,obrigado,❤ que arte maravilhosa
“And then I did some research” killed me. I love your quiet humor, and your inventiveness!
Hehe thank you 🥜
these are incredible and nostalgic, you've brought back the energy of the crafting era of youtube i been craving since the late 2000s - early 2010s
Wow! What a cool comment. Thank you
I'm new to making miniatures. How do I know how tall to make things for 1 12 scale? Is there a guide I can look at on line? Ty
Your ingenuity is a constant surprise--these jars and labels are wonderful.
Thank you so much 😊
Yes, I was just thinking ingenuity and resourcefulness 😊
"I added an 'S' to the end, so don't sue me."
That made me chuckle.
You're priceless!❤😊❤
Nice work, too!
I'm inspired!
Thank you so much 😆
Thanks for sharing. I love them. By the way, my hands too are nothing to marvel at. Strictly utilitarian.
One of my hands is covered in sticky Great Stuff residue at the moment. I took my gloves off before I was finished using it all up. Oops. This stuff takes ages to come off.
I make miniatures of different kinds, but I never thought of using a glue stick for a jar. Excellent tutorial. Thank you.
You are so welcome!
This video is a gift. Instead of spending money on things I can’t afford i am so excited to make things with stuff that has been lying around the house since I don’t know when. Also, just want to say besides how creative you are, I enjoy your sense of humor! Thank you!
Thank you so much! Enjoy making things :)
"...and then I did a bit of research and mixed up a new color."
Your dry delivery of the little jokes cracks me up lol
😆 Thank you!
I will probably never make miniatures... but I love your video. No music, a calm and soothing voice, you explain and show all the techniques and options, this is perfect ❤
Thanks so much 😊 Most of my viewers watch for entertainment and relaxation, but don't make minis. You're in good company!
You clever girl! The jars are adorable and perfect to place on shelves or fill a pantry.❤🍑🍒🫐🍊🍇
Thank you! 🤗 I kept making more and more bc it was so much fun.
So clever. Looking at making a handmade Barbie house for our two daughters with different themed rooms, and I fear miniature dolls house making may be a craft that never ends. I’ve gone down the rabbit hole 🤣Love how everyday things can be used. Possibilities are endless.
You can do it! It's such a blast.
I’m not sure why this video was suggested to me but I’m so happy it was. I don’t even make doll house stuff but these are so ingenious and fun that I thoroughly enjoyed watching!
Thank you so much! Most of my viewers watch for entertainment and relaxation, but don't make minis. You're in good company!
I didn’t know I wasn’t the only one who uses nail polish for some of my crafts! The jars are so cute
Thank you! I love using off-beat materials and supplies.
I wasn't going to watch this but the sheer curiosity of how anyone could make those little things so cool really caught me.
AMAZING JOB!
Thank you :)
I really appreciate and love your videos. I’m very poor and I have health issues so it’s hard for me to work and I just love that almost all of your videos have things that can be found from dollar tree and you make them look so amazing. Also your voice is so soothing 😂
Thank you! You should check out Little Gretchen's Workshop as well. She also makes miniatures with everyday items.
Your comment looks like it could have been written by me! I don't have any extra money and I am disabled so something's I am unable to do. I like the fact that these can be made with things around the house or things that don't cost much!
@@amytrost8207 There was a long stretch of my life when I didn't have any money either and I was on disability (due to a debilitating anxiety disorder). I wish I had rediscovered making Miniatures back then!
I don't know why these miniatures are so fascinating. ❤
There's just something about mundane items being so tiny
Very clever and informative. Im going to have to give some jars a go
Go for it! Have fun 😊
Neat-o. They'd be cute as fun earrings, too.
I was thinking the same thing!
They all look awesome
Thank you 😊
L❤VE It !
Thank you! 🫙

You do amazing work! Thank you for your videos!😊

Love seeing all the different methods and tools implemented in this project! You’ve made this a very accessible craft 🥰
Thanks so much! 😊
Thank you for these ideas! I really appreciate it.
You are so welcome!
She has such a calming voice.
Thank you so much 😊
Thank you for sharing all of these great ideas!
You are so welcome!
You always have such brilliant ideas! Thank you so much for sharing!
Thanks so much! 😊
The jars are absolutely brilliant. So clever! That's my Sunday taken care of! Thank you so much for sharing!👏👏👏
Yay! Have fun! Someone thought of using flat thumbtacks as lids. That's a great idea you can try for bigger jars.
TENGO 54 AÑOS, AMO LAS MINIATURAS, GRACIAS POR COMPARTIR TU TALENTO!!!
ABRAZOS DESDE ARGENTINA ❤
My pleasure!
So cute. And great idea to use pencils and glue sticks. Very imaginative.
Thanks! Making these was so much fun
Thank you for these great ideas ❤
You are so welcome!
Omg i never thought of pencils for jars 😝
I have SO many. I rescued many of them from the trash when a friend was moving. I donated a bunch to Goodwill. But I still have enough to start chopping them up to turn into Miniatures.
@@queencityminis I have a drawer full 😝 random ones from the thrift store craft bags, my nephews old school supplies and my friends drop of bunches of ‘interesting things I might be able to use’ in which there’s always a couple of pencils.
These jars are awesome. Thanks for showing us how.
Glad you like them!
I use glue sticks for jars but they don't look as good as yours. Thank you for this tutorial I will try to make mine look better.
You can do it! Remember, you can always hide the ugly ones in the back and put your best jars front and center.
Awesome! I am so adding these to my dollhouse kitchen!
Have fun! I made 27 jars. It was that much fun!
As soon as she said “these big boys” I was like, this is the video for me. Love the no-fuss, direct way of presenting, the incredibly innovative, creative and artistic ideas, and absolutely love how quietly inspiring it is. Subscribed, and done.
Thank you subscribing! Welcome 🤗
I don't know how this popped up..or why I'm watching it..but here we are and I love it🤭❤🇦🇺🙏
Welcome 🙂
This is such a great tutorial, so easy to follow & so inspiring. Thanks so much for sharing your techniques with us
Thank you! I ended up making way more jars than I intended to. I had a ton of footage to edit. I'm glad I was able to rearrange it in a way that makes sense.
These are adorable! Watching your videos always makes me think I want to do miniatures too but then I calm down & realize I don't have that level of patience or eyesight 😊 Love your videos!❤
😆 I also watch makers on TH-cam and think I can do those things, and then I come to my senses. Luke Towan comes to mind.
An ingenious way of making jars and glass containers. Well done.
@@queencityminis LOL, Samy - Modelbau is another diorama maker that is on another level. He makes everything from scratch.
@@queencityminisahh, Luke. I'm in love with his Ewok tree village
I Love this! Thank you for sharing it. My daughter and I have been wanting to work on a couple of miniature houses we purchased before I was unexpectedly diagnosed with multiple spinal cord injuries, severe nerve damage, breast and endometrial cancers and a few other life threatening health issues. I have made a couple of miniature houses and all of the furniture and furnishings that are in them including the people. When I was teaching 3rd grade we did a unit on the pioneers and settlers in our area and the country. As part of it we did a number of immersive activities and projects both as a class and individually. Each teacher in the grade level did a craft where they got to make something just like how they did a few hundred years ago. They got to make ink for writing with a quill pen, paper making, candle making, simple toys, just to name a few. We also did a school day like it would have been in a one room schoolhouse using only things that they would have had. To provide a realistic lunch we made homemade soup and bread and even made butter the old fashioned way. I had each student bring in 1 ingredient and they helped prep the vegetables by washing them, peeling and chopping. I provided the protein. I would take all of the ingredients home with me the night before so I could cook the meat and get the soup started in the crockpot. I also got everything ready for the homemade bread that I would bake in my bread machine once I got to school in the morning. I did this to guarantee it would be ready before our lunch time. The aromas filled the whole floor of our building and made everyone hungry. In the week before our day in the life we invited people from around our community who had special skills to come to the school and show/teach our students how the settlers/pioneers would have made everyday items. We were blessed to have blacksmith who showed them how they made knives, horseshoes, nails and hinges. One of our teachers in the school taught them the history of weaving with reeds, pine needles and other plant materials and demonstrated how to make a basket. Another teacher shared what it was like growing up in a house that didn't have running water and all of the chores they had to do on her Grandparents farm. We had a sweet woman from the public Library who taught them the history of wool and the steps needed to turning it into thread and yarn including what they used to dye the yarn and how they would either knit or weave it to create the clothing or fabric. Another gentleman demonstrated how to make a broom. As part of their grade each student with the help of a family member chose a project to make off of a list they were given. They could make a covered wagon, a log cabin, or a couple of other items that I can't remember. We asked that they not go spend money to make the project and use found items in and around their home. It was incredible to see what they made. I made the miniature log cabin to help them see and understand what their home might look like. I used mostly materials that I had in my sewing/craft room that were leftover from other projects. Pebbles meant for a fish tank became the stone fireplace and chimney. The jars you created will be perfect for the other houses we need to finish. I thank you for your tutorial and will look at your other videos to create other items.
How did you slice the glue stick to make the lids?
I absolutely love your videos. Thank you for teaching everyone so much and sharing your awesome techniques.
You are so welcome!
They are all So precious and your method of making them was mind blowing.
Thanks so much 😊
Love the jars, especially the smuckers with fabric lids. ❤
Thanks so much! 😊 I tried a couple different fabrics first before I ended up making my own.
I don't even plan on making miniatures, I just loved watching your process! they came out amazing!
Thank you so much! Most of my viewers watch for entertainment and relaxation, but don't make minis. You're in good company!
You are a creative genius. Brilliant tutorial. Much appreciated x ❤
Thanks so much 😊
So clever and creative and calming and just lovely. Thanks 🙏✌ 😊
You’re welcome 😊 I love providing entertainment and relaxation.
You have the calmest voice. I listened to you to the end even though I’ve never made miniatures and hadn’t ever thought about the process. TH-cam algorithm sent me your video, I guess, and I’m happy for it. Your very excellent presentation has made me miniature-curious 😊. I will be looking at your other videos. Thank you for putting this one out. Loved it!
Welcome! TH-cam is trying to get you to catch the miniature bug. It's addictive.
Brilliant idea! I shall definitely be making some for my models. I love the idea that you can either make them look ‘shop bought’ or ‘handmade’ depending on the finish.
That's great! I hope you make some and have fun!
Oh wow. I’m old af- I just wish I’d had your videos when I was a kid. These are absolutely incredible!
Thank you so much 😊
I will never ever do this but they looked so cute and perfect that I couldn’t stop watching.
I enjoy watching all kinds of things I won't do either
I find your videos very calming, I have only ever made one miniature but i still love to watch what you do
Thank you! Most of my viewers don't make miniatures, but enjoy watching.
I love the idea of using buttons as lids! And same with using colored pencils! You are so creative with using everyday objects
Thanks so much! For years, I had too many crafting supplies, but didn't create things consistently. I'm glad to be using up my stock now that I make miniatures.
Brilliant as usual💗 Now I need to raid our coloured pencil stash!
You should! Most of us have too many. We need to use them up somehow 😆
While I haven't gotten into miniatures (I have wayyyy too many hobbies as it is! LOL!), I love watching your creative mind work! These are sooo cute and realistic! Thanks!
Thank you so much!
love this!!! i don't make physical crafts very often these days, but i love the way you think about art. leaving room in the jars to match how they're packaged in real life, choosing fabric that fits with whats inside of them, finding neat ways to use objects in ways you wouldn't normally think to, etc... its very inspiring and straight-up awesome! the way you designed these miniatures really makes me think of how i design background elements in my own art. made up brands, modified designs based on real ones, all the way up to the generic objects or lumpy shapes i hide behind the better ones. 😅 i subscribed!
That's awesome! Thanks for subbing and your comment. Little details like leaving space at the top of the jar takes no extra skill, but it makes a difference.
I just came across this tutorial; I am so impressed by your ingenuity. I am so blessed I found you and wish you so much success. You are awesome.
You are awesome!! Thank you 😊
Completely precious. ❤️ I love them.
Thank you ☺️
I absolutely love how simple the supplies are, and yet they don't look tacky! thank you for sharing all of your tips and tricks, I never would have thought to do something like weathering paper with pastels 😄
Thank you so much! You really can do a lot with very little. Keeping things in scale and adding little details goes a long way.
These are way too cute! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you 😊
These are gorgeous. And I love how natural and down to earth you sound. Thank you!
Thank you so much!
Very clever and excellently presented. Great job.
Thank you very much!
These are SO stinkin cute! Thanks for all the options!
You are so welcome! I was thinking about how cute it would be to make these into earrings. You could have a peanut butter jar on one ear and jelly on the other 😆 Or jelly on an ear and toast on the other.
So clever! And you calm, minimalist narration makes this a pleasure to listen to.
Thank you so much 😊
So many good ideas!!! All so different ! It really adds just so much to have that variation.
I just love watching people make the tiniest accessories. When they’re building the whole dollhouse I’m just not as fascinated idk why. And then I keep thinking about your shadow box and it’s so much better than this clunky giant dollhouse you can hardly see into. Which is fine as an actual child’s toy as it’s intended of course 😅
Thank you! I have a couple more smaller projects planned (a French Boutique and a Tudor style pub). I've been very busy and neglecting the Goose Egg House, so I'll be getting back to that, too.
You're so creative and the jars are so cute! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks so much! 😊 My pleasure
Soooo cute. Very creative. I would have loved these when I was a girl.
Aww, me too
Cool!
Thank you! 🍓 🫙
Who can imagine making all the tiny jars with simple things. Just amazing job, my respect for your wonderful talent. Beautiful
Thank you so much 😊
This seems like such a cute, relaxing hobby. Especially love your soothing voice. You should also do voice-overs or audio books. Thanks for those amazing ideas.
Thank you! Voiceover is the worst part of the whole process for me and most creators. You'd have to pay me a lot more than I make on my channel to do book voiceovers 😆
Cutest pickle jar ever 😭 💕
It's so cute! I love it. The hot glue lid turned out great, too.
What an awesome collection of creative ways to make these adorable jars. I’m enjoying my recent Saturday tradition of seeing what’s up at Queen City Minis, it’s always a treat. ❤
That's great! I'm glad you're tuning in and looking forward to it 😊
Probably never going to make these, but this was the most calming video and I loved every minute 😊 Thank you!
Thank you! Most of my viewers don't make minis. They watch for entertainment and relaxation 🍓🫙
Now that is just incredible!! Your patience and attention to detail is remarkable! Simply amazing! Fantastic work!
Thank you very much!
I liked your sense of humor along with the explanation.
Thank you 😆
Glue sticks! Brilliant! 😄 I rarely use hot glue so I have sticks to spare. I just love that you made your own checkered fabric. Love your videos- always! 😍✨
Thank you! I love hot glue. It's my savior since I'm so impatient 😆
You’re so clever! Did you make a canned food tutorial that I’ve missed? If not, that would be a great one to show too. Thank you!
I haven't (yet 😉)
Well done and a no-nonsense explanation of how you did it.
Thank you 😊 I like to be concise
I cannot look away!!!! Your work is amazing. Thank you so much for sharing the magic with us!!👍🏻❤
You are so welcome!
I love how resourceful you are. You have a new subscriber. Saw "The Fairy Castle" in Chicago as a young girl and have enjoyed seeing miniatures ever since. Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing!
Thanks for subbing! Welcome to the channel 🤗 Thank you
I too saw the miniatures at the Chicago museum - small world!
These came out great! Could pack cabinets really fast this way.
I love your sense of humor in your videos
Thanks so much!
A girl after my own heart! Your minis came together beautifully. I think miniatures speak to the child in all of us. Delightful!
Absolutely! Thank you
What a wonderful and calming video. I wanna make some tiny jars now even though I have nothing to use them for
Doing a fun craft is a good enough excuse, even if you don't need tiny jars.
So fun and inspiring!
Thank you! This was a ton of fun
I love how its not just “use my affiliate link in the description” and you just have to buy 50 things, but its straight forward and not expensive (*^ω^*)
Making minis out of trash and everyday items is my thing 😊
As I continue watching i keep wanting to push "like" again haha i love all of these thank you so much
Haha thank you!
I love your sense of humor. This was a surprisingly funny video to watch for me. That second batch of peanut butter looked much better!
Glad you enjoyed it! Providing entertainment for people is so satisfying :)
So many great ideas. Thank you for sharing this because I'm going to need it. I have to make quite a few homemade jams and pickled items for the still room in my castle build. Once again you've come to the rescue! They look really great and super realistic. xxx
That's awesome! Are you doing this project as a part of Bentley House Mini's Patreon Project? People have been making their own castles. Then, Ara shares the progress. Ara is making a castle too so we all get to watch her progress on Patreon.
@@queencityminis No, it's a project I've been working on for quite a while. It's one of those that can always grow. It's part inhabited and part ruins with renovations from different periods. It's my therapy :)

You can open a Microsoft Word document on your computer. Find products that you are making miniatures of. Copy and paste each image into the document. Word let's you expand or shrink the image down to an almost microscopic size. Use the paper you originally drew on for the template of the size you want in Word for each label. Hold the physical template up to your screen and size accordingly until the image in Word is the exact size you are holding up to the screen.
Make sure your layout dimensions in Word for paper printing are standard 8x11, so when you print your paper, the images are all the size of your tiny template.
When you print it is an exact product label just very tiny.
I just discovered this trick after getting my dimensions slightly too big or too small for framing and had a happy accident when I got tired of the wrong sizes getting printed and just held up the paper that came in the frame to my laptop screen so I could shrink my image in Word to the perfect size to put back in the frame.
I have been using this basic method ever since for variations in intricate sizes for photo collages and its THE BEST printing/sizing hack of all time.
I have been dealing in art and photography my whole life and wasted SO MUCH money on having to get multiple sizes due to prints not being perfect.
Now I'm in photo heaven.
You will ❤ it!!!
It is also great for making prints for miniature frames for a miniature gallery wall scene. Hold the tiny frame up to your computer screen and shrink photo down to frame size in Microsoft Word.
You can also print a hundred tiny labels at one time so your entire inventory gets done faster.🏆.
Wow! Thanks so much. I don't have Microsoft Word. I have some knockoff free version. I wonder if this would work in that.
@@queencityminis If you go to your local library or community college and can use their laptops or computers...I never used a different software, but Microsoft Word is a MIRACLE. Even if you use a free trial, use it for a whole day to copy, size, and print as many miniature labels as possible and save the PDF file so you have it forever. You can also start your own Etsy store and print them on sticker paper to sell out of your own shop as a complete pantry sticker sheet.
Good luck!
🏆💲❤️!!
the second peanutbutter color was really good
Yes. The first color looked like Nutella.
This is incredible, thank you so much for showing how accessible miniature making can be!!
My pleasure! Thank you 😊
These are so stinkin' cute! And there's always one bit that makes me laugh out loud and pause the video to repeat it to my husband. Thanks for the inspiration!😊
Hahaha 😂 I love that!
Loved them .I will make some too
Have fun 😊 🍓 🫙
It is well worth the effort, time and patience required to work with very small things. Peace to you, my brilliant friend.
Thank you so much 😊
These are fab! I love the individuality of each jar.
