Your video came up after diesel tech Ron . I had zero problem for the 2 years I owned my 2005 king ranch 6.0. This January I had to spray it below 40 degrees. Now I think I’m ready to change them out myself. I have 230,000 miles so im going with the harness too. Thanks

You should get a medal for posting this! I just had to change one of mine, and you (barely) saved my sanity. Mine happened to be on the #4 cylinder, right where the dipstick and exhaust pressure sensor tubes converge. One small criticism, though, it would be helpful to show a better close up of where to wrap the wire around. It's hard to see up in there and if you don't know what to grab, you can break a connector. Don't ask me how I know this...

Thank you for making your video...I like too watch these tutorials and see what other techs like to do. When I attempted to remove the hareness from the first glow plug(with special tool) the hareness broke because it was way too brittle. I also removed the inner fender liner instead of laying on top of the engine.
Same truck just an early 04 model with very bad start issue that is pointing to GPs as a potential culprit. In the 50s here in SW AZ & the thing not wanting to start then finally does after trying to kill the batteries. The PO is a local & he mentioned previous experience with a couple that went bad & having to pull the covers which sounded like WAY WAY more trouble than it was almost worth. Glad to see there is an alternate method that doesn't require engine bay disassembly & a step ladder. Fortunately the truck doesn't get used a whole lot so will resort to the block heater (be my 1st time using that thing) for now.
Sounds like he may have been talking about a 7.3? My dads 97 has them under the valve covers I believe. This was really a easy method to me, but that's just my opinion : ) GL with the job!
@@subydude88 The GPs of the 6.0 also under the valve cover. Replaced them by accessing through the wheel well. Ended up being a needless expenditure of $150 for the set + harnesses as it turned out the FICM was shot...diagnosed//confirmed that inexpensively (

Duuuuude, my plugs have been bad for over a year and I was just plugging in the block heater instead. Well today the breaker tripped in the middle of the night and the engine was too cold. This method made it soooooo much easier. Thank you so much for posting this, and if you ever find yourself in Utah, I’m buying lunch haha

The Huxsters damn I am so lost in a future diesel for summer so many options I'm always leaning on 6.0 but it's issues always throw me off and gas is ok but not enough power. How reliable stock, money will be tight as I'm 19 and will need a truck for work. I work in roofing and need a dependable truck. I can do some work on them like valves sensors and such, but when it comes to injectors valves gaskets and such. I don't have the tools or the time and mechanics are expensive.
this as stated below was the clearest tutorial yet and when I have more time am going to tackle this myself this way . I have new harnesses and all plugs and stating to ohm check the new ones beforehand was good advice . I had already done that and found a bad one ! read 2.5 multiple times . who knows maybe it had been dropped ? .one question comes to mind maybe you've heard or asked in the past. why do techs and shops not go this route instead of thru the top
Good question and I wonder that also. I'm guessing the "time is money" thing. The biggest thing to me was working around the evap box and laying bent over in the engine bay. I'm willing to spend time going out of my way to make a job more enjoyable and less aggravating. GL with it!
Thank You for the Wire Trick that helped a ton over that stupid tool that was breaking mine. Wire got the rest out with out breaking them. I to was in the middle of changing the glow plugs through the fender wells and that is the way to do it. all 4 on passenger side easily accessible. On the driver the side removing the air box was easier for me to do the front two from the top and the back two from the fender well.

2:11 I had to look up "EBP sensor". You may have just helped me solve some long term issues with lack of power and a drop in fuel economy. I will be replacing the sensor and tube when I am in replacing the glow plugs. Thank you!
Good afternoon. Just wanted to say thank you for this video. I replaced four of the glow plugs on the passengers side. I took the wheel well cover off and used the OTC tool. There was a lot of room to work with. I would not recommend trying to replace the glow plugs from the top.
In process of doing this on an 06 6.0. The first 2 are easy access but as you push forward it's easier to pull the air box. You're going to have to pull it anyway to route the harness as it connects just aft of air intake hose to the turbo. I broke all but 1 harness on the drivers side. Definitely buy a new harness.
The harnesses are a pain that's for sure. I'm pretty sure I did pull the air box you are correct. It's been so many years ago now but I believe you are correct it's easier to route the harness with it out.
Ordered both wiring harnesses, Ford OEM, and 8 new glow plugs, also OEM. Figure the Ford parts lasted this long. Having all sorts of problems with "new" parts on the re-build of my 87 Turbo Coupe.
Can you just come do this for me please? I'm a little nervous but I did change out my alternator so.... wish me luck. Thank you for this video, best I've seen and hopefully good enough to help me through this. Lol 🙏
Thanks for the tip, fender well is definitely the way to go. I will say, good luck getting those push plugs back in from the top side that hold the harness in place, but besides that, this was still easy. Mine were long overdue. Two winters of having to plug in the block heater.
@@codyschleth8929 number 3 is the worst one on that side. Make sure you have a small magnet to help get the plug out. To be honest with you, go ahead and do all 4 of them. It's quick and easy.
@@codyschleth8929 just replaced the glow plug controller. I did it w/o removing the hot side pipe but would be easier to do with it out. easy job. Hardest part was getting the dirt off my hands when I was done.
Should have made the video after you put the fender liner back in. There's nothing "less frustrating" about those liners. Looks like someone put exhaust manifold gaskets on your engine. They probably left most of the wiring harness clips out when they had the liners out for that. There should be a lot more than 2 clips.
Evan after the job, I still feel it was way to go! Would do it again with no reservations. We're talking about a time difference of seconds and a frustration factor of 0 even if that was the case

Thx for good video I think my truck O5 is hydrolocked that will be big help to clarify why my truck won’t crank even with key bypass & new batteries ,with glow plugs out it should crank. Thx for tips
LOL I know that frustrated feeling. Sorry it didn't work out as well for you as it did others! Having done it both ways this to me seemed simpler and less back breaking. Plus I was able to do alot of cleaning while I was in there.

Good question. Going from memory I feel like you could but I believe the front most busing was in the frame rail more further forward. Sorry it's been several years since it did the bushings also.

An entire glow plug physically "falling" into the cylinder is impossible because it threads in an seats in the head. Maybe they're referring to the tip breaking off and they were fishing for that small piece vs having to remove the cylinder head?
The huxsters is right what can and has happened is the glow plug swells from heat and carbon bigger than the hole and most people force the plugs out which results in breaking the tip off, i use blaster and a pair needle nose vice grips and patience
Bro holy crap....why isn't this more known? Well hey I couldn't tell much from the video.....but since you have head your head up in there can you tell me would it make doing injectors easier? Do you have more access to the top of the valve co er and assured easier access to the backbolts.
I'm not really sure, I don't come up with to many original ideas lol but this one was just kind of a no brainer to me! It was day and night easier this way. Injectors unfortunately would still need to be done from the top, not really a way around that
FUCDK started this today....... Every plug broke :::((((((((. No go on wire either.... to rREMOVE use a screw/12vImpact. Drywall screw it IN halfway/SH AND PULLED. replaced harness and plugs! 4 hrs. Did starter too.

Your turbo needs cleaning vgt equiped turbos. Need removal of turbo an unison ring. Then clean an use nickle based antiseize

You can get them at any Oreilly or Autozone. Ford/Motorcraft brand too. They run about 10 bucks a piece.

It's been awhile back now. But I want to say I ohm'd them out at the harness
Thanks this helps a ton! How does the glow plug fall into the cylinder? I’ve heard people say they will fish for one for hours with a magnet.
An entire glow plug physically "falling" into the cylinder is impossible because it threads in an seats in the head. Maybe they're referring to the tip breaking off and they were fishing for that small piece vs having to remove the cylinder head?
The huxsters is right what can and has happened is the glow plug swells from heat and carbon bigger than the hole and most people force the plugs out which results in breaking the tip off, i use blaster and a pair needle nose vice grips and patience
Bro holy crap....why isn't this more known? Well hey I couldn't tell much from the video.....but since you have head your head up in there can you tell me would it make doing injectors easier? Do you have more access to the top of the valve co er and assured easier access to the backbolts.
I'm not really sure, I don't come up with to many original ideas lol but this one was just kind of a no brainer to me! It was day and night easier this way. Injectors unfortunately would still need to be done from the top, not really a way around that

FUCDK started this today....... Every plug broke :::((((((((. No go on wire either.... to rREMOVE use a screw/12vImpact. Drywall screw it IN halfway/SH AND PULLED. replaced harness and plugs! 4 hrs. Did starter too.
