When teen-aged grandchildren become frustrated or condescending over explaining technology to me I just smile sweetly & remind them that I taught them how to use the toilet & wipe their bottom!
My younger sister has cut me off. She and I are the last ones left of our family. I've decided from now on I'll just agree with her and lie if needed. (sigh)
I'm just 55 and already started realizing these things especially starting around 50, I had to put out a lot of fires over the years and now do everything I can to have peace🙂
I’m only 43, but I started noticing these things, especially around 40. Over the years, I’ve had to deal with a lot of challenges, and now I prioritize doing everything I can to maintain peace in my life. 🙂
Wise advice! Often, when listening to advice like this, I always have “Yes, but…” responses. Not so with this one. Everything you advised is solid wisdom.
I thank you for your lovely reminder. I've been all my life a truth seeker, even teaching rhetoric and argumentative writing at uni. And the years of crafted skill have sometimes led to my own frustration, where I speak my mind but am not always understood ...nor well-regarded. Granted, there is an art to the knowing of when it's necessary to engage or when it's simply better to take a step back and not always add my 'two cents' to the conversation.
Your dedication to seeking truth and honing your craft is inspiring. It’s wise to balance sharing your voice with knowing when to step back-an art in itself
I'm a 70 years old retired teacher . Many people honour and respect my opinions regarding any issues that they encounter. Yet, my own children, who have their own families don't ask me for my opinion about anything . Since they are not interested in involving me regarding their lives, I play dumb. Maybe, they feel that they should not trouble me with their own problems, try to solve everything by themselves, except financial help 😅😅😅😅😅
I cannot even believe that you made this video! I thought this was my well kept secret. As a boomer (don't trust anyone over30"), I am fully embracing and enjoying 'old age'. I got away with so much at my place of employment before I retired. Oddly enough, the 20somethings were my best friends; they thought everything I did & said was hilarious and they included me (still do) in all of their social gatherings. I won't even go into how evil I can be with scamners/telemarketers. My mantra: "Playing dumb is so much fun!"
Perfect!! As a retiree, everyone I work with could be my children or grandchildren!! I am enjoying the relashionships.. I can make them laugh at my innocence & attitude
Your story is amazing! It’s wonderful to see you embracing life and connecting with younger generations. "Playing dumb" sounds like it brings you plenty of fun! 😄
I don't know what it is but every time I have a problem the next day you have the solution to it. Just last week my female companion and I through a party every body came accept her daughters and grand children, they send her a message and told her she is a bad mother that's why they are not coming her grand children said the same, after the she was upset so I tried to consult her telling her forget what they did try to love them as when they were children no matter what kind of mess they did we cleaned it up and still love them, all of a sudden she went ape on me and told me I am this and that and a bad man and my children don't love me either! I've been upset ever since, now I shut up!
Family conflicts are tough. You showed kindness and wisdom in trying to console her. Sometimes stepping back and giving space is the best course. Stay strong.
I like talking sports . But today many of the younger gen idea of sports is the sports betting apps . They’re betting more on individual players than the team. I don’t have to play dumb with these betting apps. I am !! So I just tell ‘em I’m not on the app or maybe I need to open an account !!
A lot of wise ideas spoiled by too many unnecessary long sentences which makes the reader give up;Being brief and to the point makes it really interesting
I disagree on technology. I started teaching myself to use my computer n my early 50s. Today I can do everything on my laptop including using various firmware products. I use the internet to accomplish almost everything I need to do. I pay all my bills with my laptop and have a continuing record of all expenditures for tax season on properties I own. I email when possible instead of sitting on hold waiting for a human to answer. I haven't been to a store in years and it's been decades for a mall. I search out what solutions are available for a need. I even use it for do it yourself projects. It's beyond stupid to not keep up with technology. You did learn to drive a car, didn't you?
I am 71 and I have never used my age as an exscuse for not meeting challenges. Sorry but this is far too subjective. You sound American. Have a Nice Day. 🇬🇧

I understand that observation as well . Reason and logic seem to be unimportant in today's population.

That’s okay! Different approaches work for different people. 😊
