Yu-Gi-Oh! (Japanese: 遊☆戯☆王, Hepburn: Yū-Gi-Ō!, lit. 'Game King') is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Kazuki Takahashi. It was serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine between September 1996 and March 2004. The plot follows the story of a boy named Yugi Mutou, who solves the ancient Millennium Puzzle. Yugi awakens a gambling alter-ego or spirit within his body that solves his conflicts using various games. Yugi learns that the spirit dwelling within him is a nameless Pharaoh from ancient Egyptian times, who doesn't remember anything of his past. Yugi enters Kaiba's Battle City tournament in order to obtain the three Egyptian God cards needed to unveil the Pharaoh's past. Along the way, Yugi encounters more Millennium Item wielders, including Marik Ishtar, the wielder of the Millennium Rod, and his elder sister Izhizu Ishtar who possesses the prophesying Millennium Necklace.

That's what I've always loved about Marik. He feels like what would happen if you transplanted a villain from a different show into Yugioh and informed him "sorry, the only way you can win is by beating the hero at a card game". And instead of spending years studying the metagame or whatever, he just starts coming up with plans that involve as little trading card game skill as possible.
Yup, he should have been on a good exodia turbo deck (with sangan/witch of the black forest and all the draw power in the game, especially graceful charity)
Expect mystic mine wasn’t invented yet
@dudono1744 so, Rebecca's OG deck?
@@nicholasfarrell5981 She probably has one of the best decks tbh.
Not to mention playing to the crowd, in this case Kaiba. He knew that he could get away with his antics, because he knew that Kaiba would never disqualify him while he still had Ra in his deck.
Kaiba specifically stated that he wanted VERY badly to ban him after he took Mokuba, but couldn't because he wanted Ra from him. It IS why he made the whole tournament. He said it early on enough to where it at the very least, didn't feel too off that he wasn't banned - everyone was there for a reason.
Marik is kind of like a professional wrestling heel. With the exception of Bakura, Marik only won using shenannigans and never won a duel clean.
Not in the manga
@@kindlingkingHow did he beat Mai and Jonouchi in the manga? Because unless the anime made up its endings to those canon duels wholecloth, Marik still cheated.
Even against Bakura he won with shenanigans
@@Honest_Mids_Masher I don't recall.
@@DarthWampa_ while "good" Mario was with Bakura he was giving him the "bright" idea of stealing Ra despite. For a huge portion of the duel Bakura helping Marik draw the card.
There was even a point he could've won but he wanted to get to Ra
Mokuba: Seto, Marik is summonig the devil again!
Kaiba: Nah, I'll allow it.
Abridged Seto: Good. He still owes me.
kaiba definitely noticed the hacking. but the whole point of the tournament was to attract the rare hunters. ishizu literally walked up to kaiba, gave him obelisk and told him, that the rare hunters have the other two, and that he should host a tournament to get them back.
at one point, i think when kaiba was watching yugi duel seeker alongside his tech-support harem(?), they told him, that seeker wasnt registered in the databank untill after the tournament was anounced. his reaction was basically "awesome, my plan worked" while chewing on imaginary popcorn.
Didn't they also notice that the deck was marked?
@@LucianDevine yep, although kaiba didnt Care, as He lost either way. Disqualifying seeker wouldnt have helped against marik either way, as If His henchmen were kicked Out, marik would have Just cheated better in His duels. He was also still Monitoring the cards in the blimp, where He got a Satellite Image of rah. So He should have noticed Fake cards If they we're still used at that Stage. If marik Had used them in a hypothetical final against kaiba, He would have probably called for a Last Minute Deck Check, but only have marik remove any Fake cards, while letting him use the Rest of His Deck.
"I should probably disqualify Marik from the tournament, or at least have him arrested. He tried to murder someone right in the duel arena... but then again, it was Joey Wheeler."
Its crazy the amount of things Kaiba let Marik get away with because he had Ra
He wanted it, Ra
An that is Kaiba after getting mind crushed by Yami Yugi so he won't be "evil"
To be fair i doubt kaiba would care much even if ra wasn’t in the picture
@@FranciscoRamirez-nb4uu I mean considering where Kaiba used to be if you count season 0/early manga stuff where Kaiba ended up is honestly a massive improvement. Still faaar from where he could be, but an improvement.
And let's face it none of us would like him as much if he wasn't still some level of jackass.
what dragon lust does to a man.
"Marik would give Bakura his rod"
🤣🤣🤣
lol his shaft
A lot of people seem to forget the detail that mariks deck was supposed to specifically counter yami's deck. Hence why he had to rely more on the shadow/mind games in his other duels.
What makes you believe that? Yami Marik already changed his deck/strategies once as shown when the original Marik (with Yami Bakura) wasn't able to pin down all his strategies, even though it was originally Marik's own deck.
And none of the cards Yami Marik used against Mai and Joey, or the 4 way, seemed Yugi-specific.
@@cheyguy1211 a lot of his cards deal with burn damage or hard limiting his opponents plays
everyone knows yami employs something of a toolbox style deck. something for every occasion. so the best deck to counter that would be cards that punish the opponents actions whenever possible as much as possible, hence cards like coffin seller, nightmare wheel etc. they try to limit yamis actions along with trying to stall for time to get the winged dragon of ra shenanigans going.
also note that against both mai and joey, he spends a large chunk of the duels messing around. mostly seen his duel with joey, he just fucks with him trying to get all the pain. only to shit his pants when joey tanks ra's attack (and throws up in the manga) however with yami he's taking him seriously
that's why none of mariks cards individually don't look like they counter yami's deck, but if you look at every card together in the context of his deck as a whole. then yeah if's a good counter to the toolbox style of deck yami uses
@@DarkSymphony777 I definitely get what you're saying, but this is OG Yu-gi-oh, where almost everyone's deck is a toolbox style deck for every occasion. Nightmare Wheel and Coffin Seller are just generically good cards for that time. They're just as effective against everyone else (except for Odion.) Hell, you could even argue those two exact cards (though specifically Coffin Seller) are better against Kaiba, who would have to spend more resources trying to bring out BEUD or use Obelisk's effect, compared to Yugi who would theoretically be holding onto cards to strengthen Slifer.
Specific counters should refer to using cards that realistically won't be used in most circumstances i.e. Pegasus with Dragon Capture Jar against Kaiba or Solomon Muto using an anti-dice/gamble card against Joey. Now if Marik pulled out the card that destroyed all Spellcaster-type monsters on the field, then that's a much different story.
I'd also argue what counts as "messing around" in a duel, but that's of course way more subjective. It's not like in either duel Yami Marik had game and just not to attack to prolong the torture. He was still making the most optimal plays that he probably could.
@@cheyguy1211 for some weird reason, it's always yami who gets the title of "the toolbox deck" mainly because his cards always seem to fit a wide variety of situations. meanwhile mai is the harpy duelist, joey is the guy with the gamble cards and kaiba
is the guy who just summons big beatsticks and goes to town on them, he has 3 blue eys white dragons
with the coffin seller, nightmare wheel it's more on what monsters either kaiba or yami have on the field, like say a summoned skull for wheel (which fun fact summoned skull saw comp play in the early days of yugioh while BEWD and DM didn't) or yami who has both card of sanctity and card destruction in his deck. plus a lot of yamis more powerful plays, usually involves discarding something so in the long run it'll impact yami unless he summons slifer and sits on him, then both are in a stale mate and a lot of mariks cards tend to be spell/trap cards. not to the level of odion, but pretty big number
as for the duesl, one. yami marik is a sadomasicist,, just watch any of his duels, it's pretty obvious, and 2. marik saw mai and joey beneath him because they didn't have ra. he barely reacted when mai took ra, because he knew she can't use it. so that can transfer as, marik deciding to mess with them by for mai, deleting her memory whenever she loses a monster and joey inflicting real pain
We should also remember Marik said that Yami Marik's deck was completely different to his and that he used a lot of different cards than what Marik uses. Implying Merik as a duelist wouldn't have played these cards
"Seto, Marik is summoning the forces of Satan again!"
"Hm. I'll allow it."
I protest Your Honor! My client was being controlled by an ancient evil entity.
But evil Marik is not ancient, he's relatively new.
@@QuaestorL Zork is ancient, created by the Darkness in the hearts of humans. Dark Malik, the Darkness in Malik's heart, is therefore just an extension of Zork. He even has the same goal as Zork, to unleash Hell upon the world.
@@XJ0461C he's never said to be an extension of Zorc, just that he comes from hatred, hatred doesn't necessarily comes from Zorc
@@QuaestorL It's never said, no, but it's strongly implied. Aside from sharing the same origin and goal, he should only be a few years old, but he says that he's been waiting 1000 years to battle Atem. This is odd considering Zork has actually been waiting 3000 years for a rematch, but his spirit is divided between different items and hosts so it could be a simple mistake due to memory lapse on his part or a typo.
@@XJ0461C I don't know if the Thief King was planned to be part of Zorc, or if the latter was even part of the story plan from the start, but anyways, I always thought of Dark Malik as some evil persona brought from abuse, not because of dark magic, though it would not surprise me if it came from ancient egyptian dark magic.
The only person Kaiba would DQ in his tournament would be Joey.
The worse part about Mai's defeat due to not being able to read 'Ancient Egyptian' is that... she would have won if she just attack with her three harpies sisters.
Or her in-hand Cyber harpy lady. Steal Ra, keep it due to how the rules of battle city work, fight in the semis against Joey for a rematch.

@@giaphucnguyenphan Yup, Joey was about to win too if it wasn't for the rules of the shadow game dealing damage to a player when their monsters were destroyed.
All Joey had to do was attacking with Gilfeed and he would have won but he collapsed before he could because his stamina wore out.
@@giaphucnguyenphan Yes. He basically won, but he failed to say the last syllable of the attack command(Attack in japanese is kogeki and he only managed to say koge before passing out), so he was counted as disqualified.
Bakura too who had dark necrofear, Hades and one other monster on the field and Marik only had a regular monster on the field
1:40 uh... The whole point of the tourney was to lure marik in. Most likely kaibas people LET him in
Plus, at least one entry center (the one where Yugi registered) was staffed by a Rare Hunter who hacked Joey into the tournament.
@@nicholasfarrell5981 exactly. Most of the vid is still valid. It's just that one criticism that doesn't land when you think about it.
Like imagine if kaibas security was successful. Now what? The criminals he wants in his tourney. AREN'T in his tourney. Like it really is WAY more likely that kaibas security turned a blind eye or more likely, filtered out petty hackers and criminals while letting in criminals with a high probability of being rare hunters, at his request.
OK but he wasn’t going underneath the name of marik when he initially joined.
Odeon was so why would they give him an exception when they wouldn’t know he had the god card (as they thought Odeon was marik and had ra)

"Man, not a single Egyptian god card showed up. Where are those rare hunters?"
Also strings had slifer, even if odeon was marik, he may have pulled another "strings"
Marik: screw the rules, i have an egyptian god card
Kaiba: his logic is flawless, i agree with his stateent
In the defense of how the game seems to work in the show, if your opponent has no idea what a card does, you have no obligation to explain it to them until it actually happens. This was why Kaiba needed to see all the god cards in action, so he could learn what they actually do. In the case of Ra, he needed to see it multiple times due to it having so many abilities, because he couldn't rely on his opponent explaining it.
One thing about the slifer revival jam loop. Atem gets a pass for two reasons. 1, Marik drew each time Revival Jam was resummoned to the board, which constitutes a change in game state, making it a fully legal loop. 2nd, Kaiba was psychically present for the whole thing and as the tournament organizer gave it the okay by not disqualifying Atem on the spot.
Another video pointed out official rules irl say foreign print cards are allowed, but you need to provide an official copy/translation for the refs and other players. Made me laugh at the idea that if Kaiba had that rule Kaiba could have forced Marik to give Mai the chant to invoke Ra. Or let Mokuba force him to do it since I think he was a judge.
And Kaiba had no real motive to let Marik WIN anything. If he was declared the loser for cheating, Mai would get Ra.
Once the 8 finalists were all there, the winner of the tournament was going to end up with all three god cards no matter what.
I guess it was about honor and pride. Seto is proven to infact still be the highest authority despite competing by how he overruled the ref in play at one point. He could have just said mid-tournament to ban all cards not written in either japanese or english and that would have kicked Marik's butt because Ra is the only card in the tournament that this would apply to. It's just that this would have basically been a legal cheat and not something he would do without a dire situration(Like the one in Duelist Kingdom) to justify it.
"Bringing a character that no one can read"
Silly Sans Logic, that's irrelevant, yugioh players can't read anyway.
Especially in the anime.
In Kaiba Corp's defense, Seto Kaiba himself dedicated a lot of time and used top of the line image to text translators to find out the validity of the effects of The Winged Dragon of Ra. And he did serve as a secondary referee for the duels he did not partake in.
Marik: "yeah, my egiptian god is in egiptian....luckilly I understand it. Trust me, i will say the legit stuff".
Yeah but he also turned a blind eye to all of Marik's blatant cheating because he wanted Ra. Some referee
@@thecabbageman1 I mean, Seto Kaiba was like 15 or 16 and making up new rules as the tournament progressed.
@@thecabbageman1 being the referee of your own tournament XD.
It as funnier than that. He had that set up…. And then found out he could just read it normally
Kaiba should have been the main antagonist of the battle city tournament because he himself hosted it in hopes to defeat Yugi
I mean, his dedication to made his deck to looks like a sort of torture devices compilation and use them to inflict the most painful experiences to his opponent is nothing sort of admirable
I was always kind of sad that Joey didn't win his duel against Mariknand claim Ra, he was like one of the big three characters on the show, it feels like it would have been thematic if each of them ended up with a god before yugi claimed them all in the end.
Marik didn't make the effects up though. Others just couldn't read them.
As much as i like marik, if any new villain were to pull the stuff he pulled vs mai and joey in order not to lose, i would be really angry...
Oh wait, yeah, bohman exists...
Who?
Villain from Vrains
@@masterjoda999 a villain from vrains, an a.i. that gets control over a version of vrains (the virtual space that people go to duel), which allows him to control stuff like cards he draw, results from dices, etc...
Basically, he cheats.
3:17
thank you so so very much for this small segment, I am complete now.
5:10 The Winged Dragon of Ra card being unable to be read from people who don't know the ancient chant
That ancient text of the chant was on the Winged Dragon of Ra to make the Winged Dragon of Ra look like the most powerful monster in the game. Ra was labeled as the strongest Egyptian God in the hierarchy of the Egyptian Gods.
If Ra got a chant because he was an Egyptian God card, then Obelisk & Slifer should have also got ancient chants on their cards as well.
Surprised you left out the fact that Marik literally lost every duel he was in yet somehow was in the finals thanks to variations of cheating
He didn't win any duels to enter the tournament but had Odion go out and collect 2 full sets of locator cards for him, during this time he lost to Yugi twice while controlling others
Then at the actual finals he lost to Mai then only got the win because he cheated with an unreadable card (without that Ra would have been on her field), lost to Joey but then had Joey unable to finish his turn thanks to it being a shadow game (he even puked afterwards over the fact that Joey could have won had his heart not given out).
So yeah, in terms of dueling ability Marik was actually one of the worst and weakest to ever appear
And don't forget, Kaiba organised the tournament for the sole purpose of finding the rare hunters and Marik, so of course they managed to "hack their way in" since he wanted them there and he didn't ban Marik because he wanted that god card. Honestly if Kaiba was smart he'd have just added a rule that if anyone is caught cheating they are disqualified and their ante is confiscated, that way he could have just banned Marik and taken the god card right at the start
Marik is cheap AF, but that writing was so good. 😭
I like how after cutting it closer and closer in the last 3 duels(He also would have lost against Yami Bakura if he didn't have a jank counter-counter strategy to someone stealing Ra), Yami Marik just couldn't handle it anymore and actually tried to win in the final duel. Both by focussing more on strategy than torture and by setting up a "can't win"-shadow game.
Joey was warned many times and also had many chances to back of the match he got what he asked for.
Before the blimp: Odion won all the locator cards and not Marik.
Kaiba Corp has an HR department?
What's just as bull is how marik won against joey by technical knock out even though what the ruling should've been was to decide the winner by life points.
I believe Seeker actually won his pieces of Exodia.
Just to add to his constant luck during the semi finals he had a real chance of dueling Ishizu Odion or Bakura. If he had to Ishizu he’s exposed if he dueled odion he gets nothing same to Bakura
Obviously one of his henchmen knew.
I truly hope they will eventually print vampiric leech and plasma eel in the tcg and ocg.
Lmaooo this was a good video bro great work!
Thanks 😊
Attempted murder is a definetly a UC, maybe a game loss.
The guy at the register works for Marik and if you don't remember Joey was also entered into the tournament illegally.
you missed that he didn't actually earn any of the locator cards
I wouldn't blame Marik for the Ra's hieratic text thing. I solely blame Pegasus for designing the card that way. He designed it to only be usable by people who could fluently translate what was effectively a dead language, yet still insisted on it being an officially registered card. None of that is Marik's fault.
Marik would probably force them to put him in if they tried💀
The last reason is the most profound bcuz it's actually in the rule book. However when he dueled Yugi or if he dueled Kaiba it would be legal actually bcuz THEY could read it
I mean he managed to outluck the guy with a literal luck based deck 😅
It’s still not out of the realm though for Yami Marak to be Zorc
In the case of the Rare Hunters hacking into Kaibacorp's system to enter battle city; Kaiba specifically made the tournament to lure them there.
Wasn’t Battle City literally hosted to lure in Marik though?
To be fair on the Rare Hunters hacking in: the whole point of the tournament was to lure in Marik and the Rare Hunters. Someone in the billion dollar company probably *did* notice, but gave it a pass because drawing them in was the point. Actually, a lot of these work mostly because getting Marik to show up and bring the God cards to win them off of him was the goal, and banning him would have made that pointless. Don't get me wrong. He's still lucky this trap required to him to be given a lot of room to do whatever, but if you ban him he just leaves, finds better ways to seclude himself, and Kaiba doesn't get what he wants.
People agreed that deck out was the lamest way to win that match.
I feel like the last point doesn't really have legs to stand on. It's literally an official card made by Pegasus, so there's nothing illegal about bringing it.
he would be fired from the tournament but Kaiba did not believe in his shadow games and only cared about ra
the stealing the god cards thing probably wouldn't be a DQ as it didn't happen in the venue. venues shouldn't ban someone just because they claim someone stole their cards outside of the event.
Is this about joey?
In context, Mokuba tried convincing Kaiba to disqualify Marik, but Kaiba insisted he stays in the tournament, and for one reason only: To have all 3 Egyptian Gods in one place. (Slifer with Yugi, Obelisk with Kaiba, and Ra with Marik).
Marik had two duels... The one he played well and lost and the second he tried to kill Yugi and his friend.
After that we got Yami Marik... Who was only won because plot armor.
Mai? Different language card with 'it can only be played by me' text effect as nobody else was allowed to do the chant to get the card on their field.
Joey? Magic coma... Seriously... Might as well play against him. And have your friend swing a baseball bat to knockout your opponent to declare yourself winner.
He won by rules breaking law rather than a lucky draw... Plot armor protection that died against MC plot armor.
Justice for Mai
Not only did Kaiba let Marik get away with cheating, but it was his company's computer systems that ran all the duels! If they were playing cards on a table (like S1E1) then the mystery text wouldn't really work since nobody else would be able to confirm the effects.
But instead, Kaiba's computer has all of the effects programmed in, and has holographic animations ready to go.
You can lie about your name, this one guy I use to play against was named Grandmaster69 on the Konami registration
I 100 percent blame seto for what happened to Mia
So yes, many cheating was overlooked by kaiba which he admitted as it was to get the god card. For the Joey duel his luck is joey fainting. For the Mai duel, Im pretty sure you can play cards of languages your opponent doesnt speak as but you are supposed to have the translation to give them, which in a way, they kinda did translate it? but it wasnt translated for her to use
He wants take over the pharaoh
1:20 what are you talking about kaiba knew that Marik added himself to the list he let it slide because he wanted ra and sliver and this topic comes up like 3 times
Did you not see the anime? the only reason why Marik wasn't eliminated is because he had the Egyptian g cards and Kaiba wanted to get his hands on them
I don't know if teaming up with other competitors is against the rules even if it was Yugi and joey did the same thing.
I love Marik & i love this vid. Take my Like

shadow games carried him. Mai could have won if she direct attacked with the harpie lady sisters.
If Kaiba can get a rare and/or powerful card he allows anything
Someone pointed out... Mai would still get it if she beat Marik. He was going to theoretically get it either way since he would run into whoever got the card from Marik or Marik himself if he didn't lose before the finals
Jonochi (Joey) would have beaten Marik if Marik didn't cheated and if Joey didn't passed out.
Marik had people brainwashed/rare hunters working for him. Giving out duel disks. Lol
Let’s be real the only reason marik wasn’t booted off of the tornement is that kaiba allowed it just for the sole purpose of winning not obtaining the Egyptian god cards if kaiba himself didn’t earn the god cards he whould not perceive himself as number 1 plus you know he’s ignorant to magic almost without fault which is half of mariks offenses of course
My headcannon is Kaiba made his servers easy for Marik to hack on purpose.
So does that make Marik and Yugi the Billy Mitchell and Todd Todgers of their sport?
Yeah, todd Rodgers got his 5.51 in dragster by believing in the heart of the game.
Well this idiot, Malik could go rapidly for the win in all his duels, but no he wanted to enjoy and fest on the terror of his adversary in all his duels
Bakura was could have beaten marik if it wasnt for shenanigans and plot armor
This seem less of a attack on Marik and more of attack on how Kaiba is incompetent as a game host
Marik lost to Joey.
Sub Kaiba Probably doesn't care because he did the same thing in Duelist Kingdom. Dub Kaiba because he doesn't believe in magic.
Nah, if you wanna talk about how lucky Marik is, you gotta talk about his duels. That man didn't deserve a single win. First he should've lost to Mai, he won only because she had to summon Ra instead of attacking with Harpies and then what do you know Ra is only Egyptian god that requires some ancient chant to be summoned so he wins. Next, he should've lost to Joey. If Joey had lasted like 10 seconds longer, Marik would've lost. And of course, he loses in finals to Yugi.
Joey almost beat him. But Yami Merick basically cheated
"Greatest in yugioh history" is arguable. The s4 bad guys and the 5d's s1 bad guys were better.
Kaiba let Marik in because he had Ra.
well you do know why he isnt booted from battle city... kaiba wanted ra....
NCHammer 23's WHOLE flow was stolen my guy. At least give the guy his credit 😂😂😂 "Hit that Noti Bell"
YOOOO I love NCHammer23 that guy is awesome 👍 And yeah I guess I am trying to match his energy a little 😅
He is not just lucky to be dis here sir
Joey would won through fair duel but again Joey would also lose if rishid also win by default without any problem from insider
Lol to fair the card wouldnt work if it was on english and kaiba himself can read the card
Marik has no skill
While Marik absolutely should not have been allowed to use ra without having a translation to hand anyone who needed one, it didn't end up impacting the game actually.
The "chant" was a 4kids change, it exists in neither the manga nor the japanese anime, to use ra one merely has to announce which effect to use ... in Egyptian.
So even if Mai had a translation, unless she somehow knows Egyptian as well (in which case she could have read the original), she couldn't have used Ra or prevented Marik from getting it back anyway.
Cheating
5:23 why would Kaibab care about this? Kaiba could read the card
1. Burn cards were also straight up banned in Battle City. Its why noone other than Marik ran them. Yet another reason he should have been banned but wasn't cause Kaiba wanted Ra.
2. I'll be honest, I find it kind of hillarious to think about how Marik actually *sucks* at the card game and the only reason he won anything is because he:
A) cheated by using illegal/banned cards
B) Had by far the most *HACKS* member of the anime versions of the 3 Egyptian God Cards.
C) Used *actual magic* to control, torture or otherwise hinder his opponents
3. Even funnier is that out of everyone there from Marik's side of things, Odion was easily the best player by a mile. Dude didn't cheat, played competently and actually would have won against Joey fair and square if Marik hadn't coerced him to use the fake Ra that HE snuck into Odion's Deck.
legit, why can't i just show up to my locals, break the wrists of every opponent I have so they can't play anymore, and just be declared the winner by default with zero repercussions? bad game. lol
exactly that. other villains might be using dirty/illegal/OP cards, but they at least win by playing the card games.
marik with his battles by "my opponent cannot play the game anymore so i win by default" is such bs win.
ps. lets not talk about 5ds that you win the duel by knocking your opponent off their motorcycles. i like the story but i dont like the duel rules. i think it's equally bs.
so honest and competent, Joey realized how suspicious it was.
Afaik, the other gods were strong but straightforward. Both can't be targeted, aren't going to stick if special summoned, require 3 tributes (Or equivalent), one is a powerful floodgate, one is the ultimate beater with powerful burn. Ra is everything, has destruction, has sphere and phoenix forms who all deal with different contexts, can heal you via defusion.
In all fairness, Temple of the Kings is broken AF. As long as there is a monster in the temple you can't attack him or target him with spells, and possibly traps? Granted he only had Serket in his deck and fake Ra which was a surprise, but still. But yeah, even before it had Ra in it, he played competently and honorably.
I would argue no DQ for the swap between Marik Ishtar and Yami Marik. Its essentially an extreme case of multiple personalities, not genuinely different people. Now Yugi and Bakura on the other hand could 100% be busted for this, because their changes are genuinely different people
Yami Bakura:"I'll do a pro gamer move." *Swaps*
Kaiba:"Disqualified!"
Yami Bakura:"F*ck!"
In retrospective OG yugioh villains were just kinda mid duelists. Marik tecnically lost to both May and Joey and Bakura only win is against Bones. Pegasus was the only one that felt like a genuine duelist threat.
Pegasus would have looked like a real jackass if he ended up being mid at the game he himself created
@@richborn6700 Pegasus was strong, not doubt, but I still find funny that he was still using a OP deck that he, the creator, made for himself and is one of the biggest cheaters on OG season and still lost.
You forgot he got a fake card into the tournament that would almost kill everyone who dared to use it, as well as getting Joey tired enough for him to not get the final blow
he talk about the fake cards and the fact he drained joey
1:30 They had a inside guy who actually registered yugi and Joey 😮 now Joey shouldn’t have been there because he a low duelist rank but when the rare hunter who was in charge of registration saw his red eyes he let him go just to jump him in a alley and steal it the next episode with a fake exodia yugi gets his card back next episode 😮
Joey did point out that Marik entered the Battle City Tournament under the fake name "Namu" so Marik should have been disqualified
And how do you want to disqualify him? if you don't forget, he has a sharp stick that can control people's minds, at least as long as he plays and doesn't break the rules, at least he won't attack anyone with that sharp stick
Kaiba could make Malik disqualify of he wanted to. However Keep in mind, the purpose of battle city is that to luring the rare hunter and obtain the 3 God Cards.
Evil Marik vs Evil Bakura is the first time we ever saw a villain vs villain fight 😂
Top tier duel too ✊
Honestly even ignoring all this, the fact that by all rights he should have lost in the semifinals is what really makes this title accurate. Just one "attack his life points directly" and the finals would've been Yugi vs Joey instead.
2:45 You forget that Kaiba threatened to kill himself in Duelist Kingdom lol
