    I feel the Team Unicorn duel either should have ended in a loss or, if Team 5Ds win, should have played out entirely different.
    I get having Jack lose the first round to build tension, and the way Unicorn utilized the rules of the tournament to form a collective strategy and take advantage of the format was great (the whole arc did a good job of this), but was it really necessary to have Aki lose right after and make Yusei the complete breadwinner? I get it, Yusei is one of the best duelists in the franchise, and him taking on a whole team by himself is epic. But if that shouldn't be the premise of the FIRST team based duel, because it undermines the whole concept. Aki should have at least knocked off their first opponent and roughed up the second a bit.

      Yusei had a moment earlier on against Jean to win by setting facedown Cosmic Blast AND Summon Tax, where Jean only would have been able to destroy just 1 of the two. However, I think they wanted to show off Dragon Knight Draco-Equiste

      100% agreed with this post. Yusei was doomed to lose via deck out, and having Jean attack instead of end his turn and give his team the W was an asspull to end all asspulls, regardless of the reason.
      This was undoubtedly Yusei's most undeserved win of the entire series. It needed far better writing.

    Notes from an Ancient Gear Mechanic;
    Hey gang! Here's my hot take on these....
    10) I personally agree with you. Tea(or Anzu if you prefer) SHOULD have dueled him....
    9) GX had a bad habit of "Protag Stank" and Jaden is the prime example of it ...
    8) meh. I unfortunately haven't watched Rush so I couldn't say anything....
    7) Again, 5D's still had that "Protag Stank" going on.....
    6) I like the idea of the quiz deck, but I agree about the Character....
    5) Again, haven't seen Sevens so I can't say....
    4) I personally despise the Tomato guy. The Deck was weird and the Character was even weirder ...
    3) I hated this game. Blue Girl HAD it and it tick's me off how they protected Soulburner....
    2) Now I actually LIKE the Predaplant Archetype and think it's a pretty decent Plant Fusion Deck. I Despise how they ignored this Duel...
    1) TBF, I like the Gladiator Beasts. I just think the Battle Beast is a wasted character that could've been better used....

    I honestly think that the Jaden vs Camula duel was fine. I would have preferred if Zane defeated her though. Also, even if Syrus were allowed to have a revenge duel with Camula, he would most likely lose because he simply hadn't improved enough as a duelist yet. Plus Camula is after the spirit keys, so she wouldn't have any reason to duel Syrus.

    Arc v Shun vs sora round 2 is probably the worst dual ever due to sora acting like a child who will keep dueling you until they win and ignore all their loses with thier bad deck like real world players
    Og probably the final dual kaiba had in the og series due to leaving off a good character hanging
    Gx Chaz vs Alexis. It was semi funny as a kid but now it's just creepy to remember
    5ds probably most Leo duals where he is a stepping stool for other characters to use.
    Zexal every dual where Yuma exi- I mean utopia does the same move to win the dual. Those were repetitive and boring
    Vrains blue angel duals as she should have been winning more with a burn deck especially in the anime.
    Sevens not sure as I only saw it up to the roa dual

    i would have definitely accepted my boi losing.

    Honorable mention goes to Yusei & Kalin vs Lawton I think is his name cuz Barbara forced him to forfeit the duel even tho he was getting beat
    Yes it was a DNF but in Pokémon that don't mean anything as a forfeit counts as an automatic loss which means technically Yusei & Kalin had another win

    I think Aki should’ve beaten at least 1 Team Unicorn member instead of Yusei beating all 3. This could’ve been a good arc for Aki and then she has a duel against Sherry for their “rivalry”.

    • @christopherb501
      @christopherb501 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I'd even be fine with that *everyone* got to bring a custom rule to the table - if pre-approved; no Russian Roulette or something - so there'd be tons of variety and legitimatized wackiness (maybe duelists like Yuma opt out and get some kind of bonus?). Or maybe it's a plot-point, that the tournament organizers are corrupt and will allow select duelists to do this sort of thing. Or there's something Sevens-esque in play and eating tomatoes period is some weird plot point, like curry bread staving off icy death by boredom or mixing curries to create rocket fuel.

      I wouldve been fine with Aki’s loss if it wasnt the only duel she had in WRGP. She held her own, she sacrificed herself to give Yusei a chance instead. In a vacuum it was a respectful loss where she lost with dignity (Something you cant say about the losses other female characters had) But unfortunately the assholes had to but Crow back in the fight, so she has to get hospitalized (Despite getting injured the exact same way as Crow who was fine aside from his arm in a sling) and the idiot immediately takes his spot back. Leaving Aki never getting a chance to win another duel in the tournament and getting branded with the benchwarmer tag we all know and loathe.

      that was what should've happened, and it doesn't matter if Syrus wasn't a Key Keeper, in 5Ds, the Dark Signers looked down on Crow and Leo for not being Signers, since Signers and Dark Signers were destined to fight. but Leo and Crow decided to screw destiny by fighting them anyway since they have just as much right to fight for their planet as the Signers (especially Leo's issues with Luna being the favoured twin), and they WON. the same would apply to Syrus since he's not only fighting to save his brother who turned out to have cared about him after all, but also to fight for Academia and prove to stand alongside Jaden and the others, plus contributing to save the world can do wonders for your self-esteem. just look at Tails in the ending of his story in Sonic Adventure.

    TLDR Akiza should have been "allowed" to beat Andre, and either Team 5D's should have lost their first match and the tournament should have been double elimination, or Yusei should have won with the last card in his deck.
    The end of that team 5D's vs Team Unicorn duel will never not annoy the hell out of me. They spent weeks studying and assembling the anti-power deck for a situation like this, watched tape on team 5D's for 3 weeks, setup the run-in on the practice track, all to get into a situation where they could outnumber team 5D's and deck Yusei out, even talking about how they are a part of something bigger than themselves. Then like a f'ing moron Jean just attacks when he has the win locked up if he just does nothing. If they wanted Yusei to win, they should have just had him win with his very last card like Yugi did against Leon when he had to get down to one card in deck to get rid of the Golden Castle of Stromberg.
    About the only thing they sort of got right is that Akiza beats Andrei to the first turn, possibly because the overboost system that he used to ensure he got the first turn of the duel also lowered his max speed, but of course the episode where Aki starts to duel doesn't mention that. Hell, they don't even let Aki beat Andrei, which they really should have, since she wasn't somebody that they had likely watched tape on or scouted in any way. They likely watched tape on Yusei, Jack, and Crow for obvious reasons. So Crow's last minute injury and subsequent replacement should have thrown a bit of a wrench in their preparation, in theory.

Plus, it was a nice rematch between Jaden and Alexis. Also, I don't think that Atticus was being hypocritical about Chazz brainwashing Alexis. Atticus was just being an overprotective older brother. Ofc the Battle Beast duels would be number 1 lol. Soulburner vs Blue Girl could've easily ended in BG winning but without her taking Flame. I mean, Sevens also managed to give Roa the win when he dueled Asana even though Asana was in the right - and in the end, Roa apologizes to her and says the way he (and the others) acted wasn't okay.
    And speaking of Sevens: While I understand why you didn't like Luke vs Yuga r3 (it ended wholesome but overall, unnecessary loss for Yuga), I think you're too harsh on the situation at the end of the Luke vs Chevelle/Doverap duel. I'm not sure why you just point out Luke for acting kinda "douchy" when *nobody* cared to give any attention to Chevelle and Doverap then, not even Yuga. Anime cards work differently than the real ones like Odd-eyes pendulum dragon in the anime only deals double damage to level 5 or higher monsters, dark rebellion uses 1 material instead of 2, and majority of meklord cards work better in the anime than the real ones.
      Adding on about the duel though the only logical excuse for Yuri going against them was most likely the ZARC influence on him at the time made him fight against the two since ZARC goal was to get all the yu-boys together. Though Kite and Aster really had no business cutting in the duel in the first place.

    The team unicorn duel is even more infuriating because Yusei misplayed. He could have Synchro summoned Junk Archer and used it's banishment effect to clear Jean's field for game. But because me made a bad play they had to bs it.

    Team unicorn made a deck to specifically beat Jack, there is no reason why that deck should have beaten Aki. It’s fine that Jack lost to create drama for the duel and to make him doubt himself before he got scar red nova dragon to build his character but there was no reason for Aki to lose. They treated Aki as bad duelist that Team unicorn didn’t have to worry about and it would have been cool to see their plan to beat Team 5ds fail because they underestimated Aki. Considering this is her only WRGP duel she should’ve won at least one person if not two. The duel results should have been Andre beats Jack (Jack still gets the scene where he pushes the duel runner), Aki beats Andre, Aki beats Breo, Jean beats Aki, and Yusei beats Jean with dragon knight draco. I gave Aki two wins because this is her only WRGP duel and I’m pretty sure she doesn’t duel again til she and crow duel sherry in the final arc.

    I actually really liked your 9 and 10. For number 10, I loved the fact that Johnny just quit after he realized he was facing the king of games. It felt so real to me, haha. He was doing pretty well too, but the second he learned who his opponent was he just gave up and it was the kind of thing I always kinda wanted to see as a kid, yugi isn’t just an icon, but his reputation is intimidating and it was so cool to see it on screen for once. For number nine, it absolutely blew my mind to see shining flare wingman for the first time, it was the coolest moment for me. After seeing Camula being not only so threatening but so overpowered, she was one of the only people who could be a threat outside the confines of the game and beating not only crowler but Zane, who’s always felt like the strongest duelist in the franchise, made it so much more tense to see who would beat her. The way they brought up the medallion was such a shining moment to me, I thought it was such a great moment to me and then with the duel ending with even Camula being surprised at Jaden’s new monster who she didn’t even know existed despite spying on him, it’s always been a highlight for me.

    Gx- Jaiden vs Dimitri - why bring back such an iconic deck and play with fans emotions by using a copy cat duelist and one that's simply insufferable
    5ds- jack atlas vs Carly carmine- this wasn't even a duel it just felt like a long drawn out filler story within a plot just to kill time and not to mention the duel ends in such an unsatisfying way anyway
    Zexal- Yuma vs flip turner-this duel is straight joey vs weevil done bad and flip is such an annoying character how on earth he was even a threat is beyond me at least weevil played the scummy duelist with the looked down archetype focus more entertainingly
    Arc v-yuri vs the 5 unamed duelists- I get it yuri is strong but what's the point of this duel it's not plot and if anything it's not even that good of a showing to Yuri's abilities as a duelist
    Vrains-ai vs aoi and her brother - aoi got so strong went through so much character development and is even teaming with her brother only to be curbstomped in a duel that we all know she has to lose for plot waste of a characters potential

    Duels I hate: every time the female main characters endure the warf effect. Every single time a good female character starts getting some development a main antagonist a side antagonist shows up and beats them to show they're top dog.
    Duels I hate part 2: filler Duels that have no use, mostly in gx, zeal and o.g. who did this the most frequently, completely pointless Duels on there to pump up the episode count instead of using the time they have to properly continue the plot.
    Duels I hate part3: extra episodes that extend the duel by wasting time to pump up the episode count, o.g. yugioh and g.x. did this the most.
    Duels I hate the most part4:
    The entire 2nd half for 5Ds except crash town, Bruno, and burning soul, the 2nd half of 5ds just felt like filler and they had the golden goose a 3 man tournament riding duel arc but instead of going the full 9yards and using this to showcase all the characters it became the yusei gangbang tournament where yusei basically gave 12inches of the dick to literally everyone he could.
    Arc V after synchro dimension, they basically just dropped the ball the entire time until Zarc came out against the 2 bracelet girls where it's the single best moment In the entire franchise but arcV basically went to shit.
    Zeal's first half til the final tournament was worthless and they really should've just done Zeal 2nd from the start.

Aoi vs Spectre and Go vs AI are two terrible duels to come to my mind, especially with the second one cause they build up how much Go has grown as a character since before by having him return to using his Gouki Deck... and he went up against AI, who you know couldn't lose cause that would end the whole arc right there.

  • @GambeTama
    @GambeTama ปีที่แล้ว +8

    The Team Unicorn duel was so untenably stupid because it highlights the major disconnect between the way the game is played in the anime vs real life. For the most part, the show relies more heavily on battle interactions to progress the duels. This made sense in the beginning, because options were very limited during the DM and GX eras, and you were almost always going to win by running down the opponent's field, and using backrow support to disrupt their heavy hitter. However, from 5D's onward, the game had begun changing dramatically, and the ways in which a person could achieve victory began to become more varied. The horned-beast deck that team Unicorn used was expressly designed to mill out the opponent, and punish decks that made aggressive plays, which was supposed to demonstrate that these guys were geniuses at counteractive deck building - similar to Bastion vs. Jaden, but on a bigger scale. Nobody would normally fault you for making a deck that not only goes against the grain, but actively tries to take advantage of common weaknesses in the most common pays those decks normally make. The key word being "normally."
    The problem is that the protagonist(s) hold on deeply to this philosophy that "the only way to win is with a clash of convictions," which doesn't make any sense when alternative win conditions are very valid. Even more ironic was that this duel also acted as a sort of microcosm of the season as a whole; the cast's normal way of dueling was ineffective in the face of their newest opponents, and they would have to adapt to survive... only for the solution to be doing what they were doing already, just... bigger. Can't synchro? Make bigger synchro! Battle causes the player more damage than the opponent? Then ask your technical opponent to commit to a battle strategy their deck wasn't made for, so that they hurt themselves and you can make the plays they were actively avoiding letting you make in the first place. It was such an odd moment where the writing really showed its shortcomings, and is the reason why it probably sits as the duel that I objectively hated the most in the series.

      Nah, what this duel shows is that more goes to dueling than simply activating effects. Being able to get inside your opponents head and trick them into committing a missplay is as valid as anything else. Yusei was simply the cleverest of the two because he know exactly what to say to win.

    • @GambeTama
      @GambeTama ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@toumabyakuya I get that, but I still think it was very poor writing. The entire duel these guys had steady heads and a solid strategy, and then threw it away at the last second because Yusei told them "this isn't the RIGHT way to win a duel." I don't know if this line is present in the Japanese version, but I do recall a joke being made in the dub about how the lead guy won a tournament with an all trap deck one time, meaning that the guy is perfectly fine playing off-kilter strategies. And even if the line wasn't there in the sub version, the fact of the matter is that this team was built around being clever and creative in how they play around their opponents, and have a been doing so for a while, so who is this nobody named Yusei Fudo, telling them "there is no honor in this" that suddenly convinced them to throw out their whole strategy and not say literally 3 words to win?

    Looks like we'll get a slight bit of salt with our feast today, so I'll weigh in on how these duels can go sour real quick:
    I don't mind much if a result is predictable; sometimes a howdunnit is as fun as a whodunnit after all. But sometimes a result can favor someone who seems less deserving based on personal preference. Blue Angel snubbed here, and even fan-favorite Shun picking up an odd amount of defeats after his explosive debut. Other big red flags are when enemies seem to pull their ultra plot bias to the point of using supernatural abilities because plot-forbid the costars finishing off an arc baddie. That's Marik from Battle City in a nutshell. It can even make said character appear weaker if they do have to stoop to that. Lastly, there are some pretty filler duels here and there which might have good studio reasons behind their existence but don't add anything to the narrative, probably interrupted it tbh, and likely ended with the protag using their current ace against a total rando. GX early slice of life style is pretty sweet, but the duels can become hit or miss based on if you thought the 1-off was cool or funny. Sometimes my least favorite duels wouldn't be ones I'd change the results of if I could, but usually they are. That's just pretty much like it could've been something to get a bigger reaction which should help the whole promotional end too in the long run.

    8. Yuga vs Luke 3 really should've been a draw. If you're going to do an arc between a hero losing to a protagonist, round 1 should be a loss, round 2 a draw, then round 3 is the victory.
    7. I swear if this was Crow, Jack, and Aki/za and they had lost/win, that would've worked better.

    What I personally hated about the duel between Soulburner and Blue Girl, is that it seemed like Takeru needed to show that he was strong BUT at the cost of throwing away the characters they developed in the first season.
    Go and Aoi were treated horribly in the rest of the Vrains, and that's why I don't like Soulburner's character, because unlike Crow or Shark he didn't have to work to earn his place.
    Crow against bohmer in 5ds knowing that he was not a signer, and Shark being able to control a number at will.

    10. Yeah definitely a duel Tea (yes I'm going with dub names) should do rather then Yugi.
    9. While I agree Jaden shouldn't get most of the duels, we get get Shining Flare Wingman which is probably the part in this match that's forgiving.
    8. I have not seen this match but I do know Monster Reborn blanked there memories so I think the loss was needed?
    7. It wasn't for Yusei being undefeated though. It was so Team 5D's can stay in the WRGP cause if they lose New Domino is basically done. But yeah Jean shouldn't have attacked.
    6. Oh yeag Pierre is just really annoying, and his Deck is probably one of the worst Decks I know.
    5. It doesn't really bother me on Luke talking like a pidgeon but Pidgetrap shouldn't be a duelist for this match.
    4. Oh yeah this match here is also annoying. Tombilly is a useless character, and I know a fanfic where the basket rule acted up everyone's allergies for allergeric reactions with Yuma suffering one from Tomatos.
    3. Yeah it's Violet Chimera. I wouldn't call this match a waste but Blue Girl should have won as nothing would really happen had she won. Biggest problem would be Gate of Fire since it's a Trickstar Counter card itself. The studio had decided 'hey she's a girl she loses all the time cause we hate girls'.
    2. Probably because Yugo was berserked is why they interrupted. I agree they should duel by themselves, Zarc was close to manifesting so they needed to snap Yugo out of it and we got Dusktopia with us. Though Aster should focus less on Dystopia rather then make it weaker, and also got Greedy Venom. Arc-V is the studio's second jumbled mess otherside VRAINS, and although I like it it does have lots of problems.
    1. No one was killed off though. Sealed into cards is very different then committing actual murder. For this Battle Beast, I find him as okay but his Deck the Gladiator Beasts are a very cool, and interesting Deck to use as a homage towards Jaden's use of Contact Fusion with the Neo-Spacians. If the cast was becoming too much they could do better rather then have someone pick them off I agree but Battle Beast is an okay character but hia Deck is really interesting.
    The duel I hate the most on the entire series is a VRAINS duel between Varis, and Lightning. There both favorite characters of mine, and although itvwas solid at first it gotten botched at the end not cause of Lightning using Jin as a hostage but cause he gotten the idiot ball! In defense of the Team Unicorn duel, Ithink the problem with it is, that everyone thinks of it in terms of real TCG. In real Yu-Gi-Oh, there are so many cards that can win you the duel in your opponents battle phase, but very few cards that can save you from decking out. But this is not the case in the anime. In the anime, everyone has plenty of very situational cards all the time. So the guy thinking Yusei might have a method to save himself from decking out (reshuffle graveyard cards to deck somehow etc) and attacking to make sure is not that far fetched. So if he ended his turn and Yusei used a card like that and got another turn, it would be a big come back chance. But if he attacks, even if Yusei stops the attack, he would still deck out. It is like attacking from two fronts. He just couldn't have known Yusei had a way to win with his attack. Plus I think Yusei kinda used a Poker strategy and bluffed, and Yusei's confidence made him think he could prevent the deckout.

    • @spoonflaps12
      @spoonflaps12 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is exactly the same impression I got when I first watched it. Yusei used several graveyard effects and we had just seen the effect of Infernity Climber about 10 episodes prior, so it's not impossible that he would've had an anti-decking out card to save him for one last turn. Not to mention, the Team Catastrophe duel was so much worse and no one ever complains about that one.

      Good point but that does not make up for the writters having Yusei defeats André, Bréo and Jean single-handedly in a row. Aki should have duelled first, then Jack takes over after she have most likely lost to André (not without delivering a good match though), who would then ends up losing to Jack (I was really surprised to see Jack that muchoutduelled by André). Bréo enters then beats Jack (or the two have a draw, like Crow vs the 2nd guy from Team Ragnarok) before Yusei finally steps in. It would have made more sense tactically speaking!

I knew the writing on the wall that sawatari was going to lose especially since he was in a way dueling against two protagonists with both Yugo and Yuya. But the inner actor in me wanted sawatari to win especially when the odds were stacked against him. and he at one point in the duel had the duel to rights but as he was going to play the finale to their duel Yugo ends up getting bailed out not through personal skill or some final card play from his own deck but by the only deus ex action card that was played throughout the entire duel.
    Same can be said for the gongenzaka vs crow duel on top of the fact that I was a massive fan of gongenzaka. At the very least when it comes to this duel gongenzaka doesn’t use action cards on principle unlike sawatari who never had the chance to use one at all in his duel.

    It's gonna be a top 5 because I don't hate that many duels.
    5th - VRAINS Blood Shepherd and Ghost Girl VS Roboppi: I love Roboppi. His duel with Soulburner, his interactions with Ai and his sendoff were amazing. What bothers me the most is not the result or the fact it makes Emma and Kengo look a little weak, but rather the placement of the duel. They died a few episodes ago, and the writers already kill them off after 5 episodes? The main gripe I have with this duel is that ge season was rushed.
    4th - GX Edo Phoenix (Aster in the dub) VS Amon Garam (Adrian Gecko in the dub)
    I feel like Amon should've been cut from GX. I never really enjoyed him and him dueling Yubel right after Kaiser's last duel happened really killed the mood. Well, to not go into any tangents, what I hate about this duel is that I feel like there were better ways to give Edo a sendoff. Would be awesome if Yubel brainwashed Edo and Kaiser was the one to snap him out of it, getting a big win and a rematch that would end in Edo's unfortunate death in the end.
    3rd - Sevens Luke VS Goha Yuga
    G. Yuga was built up as an evil and unstoppable force, and I feel like him beating Luke would've been the massive win he needed. But of course, they can't let Luke lose to anyone else but the protagonist. Still, enjoyable dueling action.
    2nd - Go Rush Manabu VS Goha Yuna
    First of all, the build up to this duel was a complete joke. Manabu was pretending to work for Phaser which led to comedy and this duel. As much as I like him, Manabu had NO reason to win this duel. Yuna beating a Maximum and showing her worth by getting a big win against Manabu would be genius, but again, you can't expect much from a female YuGiOh character. If Manabu just won and the episode ended there, I would dislike it, but not hate it, however, they freaking KILLED Yuna off for a duel that was just a JOKE. It's like having Judai die after dueling a monkey. Feels like Rian Johnson. Putting subverting expectations over a good plota and character moments. Don't get me wrong, I love Go Rush, but this duel was terrible. Worst thing is Manabu never mentions this duel again. He's completey fine after having killed Yuna. Yuna should have won.
    1st - GX Edo Phoenix VS Manjoume (Chazz)
    This will be quicker than I wish it was because I deleted this part on accident. Silly me. So, my opinion on this duel is that Edo should have won. Sad to see Edo again in this list because I love him (Despite the writers not feeling the same). Edo started off stong. In his first legitimate duel, he beat THE KAISER, who had NEVER lost a fair duel up to that point. Then, he beat Judai, THE PROTAGONIST of the show. What's cool is that he did not need to use his real deck to defeat Kaiser, showing his sheer power and building up the Pro League as strong duelists. Already a great momentum for the character. He did lose to Judai and Saiou later on, but they are the protagonist and the main villain of the season, so I don't mind that. Then, he beat the strongest pro duelist of all time, The Destiny duelist, also known as DD for short. Keep in mind that DD became the best pro duelist without the assistance of Bloo-D, and even when he uses Bloo-D against Ed, he loses the duel, again, showing Ed's power and ending Ed's beautiful character arc. Then, Ed becomes a JOKE after this. Kaito from ZeXal lost a bit of his relevance after becoming a friend to Yuma (Sometimes he felt a bit like a discount Shark), but he still won duels, had a good end to his character arc and a MASSIVE win in the end. But Edo does not win a SINGLE RELEVANT DUEL after losing to Saiou. Granted, his only relevant opponent in season 3 was strong in Amon Garam, but I already talked about this duel, so I diagress. Edo NEEDED a win to regain his status as a good duelist. Now, let's look at Manjoume's build up. Manjoume lost to Judai 5 FREAKING TIMES. I know Shark lost to Yuma 4 times, but 1 of them wasn't realy serious and 2 of them, he was posessed, so only the last duel counts in my eyes. I know we got the Society of Light duel and that pointless and forgettable zombie duel (Which would be here if it was a top 6), but even if you don't count those, it's still 3 losses (4 if you count the first duel where Judai was gonna win). If that wasn't bad enough, Manjoume LOST TO ASUKA, and became the only Studio Gallop rival to ever lose to the female lead, which isn't good because most female leads are the weakest main duelists of the show. I'm not being sexist, it's just the unfortunate truth. If that wasn't bad enough, Asuka only won 4 TIMES in the whole show (Still better than Aoi Zaizen lol). Then, he LOST TO MISAWA, who NEVER WON A SINGLE DUEL AGAINST A NAMED CHARACTER OTHER THAN THIS ONE IN THE ENTIRE 180 EPISODES OF GX. That's really bad. He did lose to Amnael, Saiou and Amon, but those are main antagonists so, I don't mind those (Also, shows how Ed is stronger because Saiou needed his Light Ruler to beat Ed and Amon needed Exodia to beat Ed). I have a theory that 2 groups in the GX writing staff were constantly arguing if Manjoume should be strong and badass like Kaiba, or a goofy underdog like Jounouchi. If they stuck to ONE of these, I would be fine, but they did not do that, making Manjoume really inconsistent. It makes no sense for him to beat Ed and it makes that duel the textbook definition of forced. If Manjoume beat Ed with Armed Dragon LV10 or something like that, the duel would still be bad, but at least not terrible. But no, it had to be ojama yellow, the WEAKEST monster in Manjoume's deck. Shows how little the writers cared about Ed after season 2 ended. The final nail on the coffin for the downfall of such a great character. I completely forgot Aoi Zaizen hit her face on the floor until someone brought it up, which is saying something because I binge watched VRAINS a few months ago. However, THIS duel, THIS moment that scemented the downfall of arguably one of the best characters in GX is something I will never forget, even though it's been 3 years since I watched that season. No matter how much time passes, I wil wonder: "What the HELL happened to Ed Phoenix?". Thank you for reading this long rant.

    Agreed with GX's Judai problem. The Johnny Steps duel was dumb as all Hell. What I hated about the Team 5Ds vs Team Unicorn duel is the fact Team Unicorn literally swept all of Team 5Ds until Yusei, what the Hell were the writers thinking?
    Also, Blue Girl.. Blue Girl 🤦🏽‍♂️. . I haven't seen a female duelist this talented yet this underused since Mai.

    Team Unicorn defeating Team 5Ds would have not only taught them a lesson about Team cohesion, but them losing to Team Catastrophe later would have upped the stakes when 5Ds later duels them.

      That's what I was thinking looking back it would've been perfect for 5Ds to lose to Unicorn, aftet that they not only learn more team cohesion, but they work on planning how to better their decks in supporting eachothers plays hell Yusei and Crow have almost similar play styles emphasis on ALMOST with Jack's being more focused on power, then Unicorn loses to Catastrophe which ups the stakes like you said.

    Quiz Dude vs. Yuya. I loathed this duel. We know Arc-V had a budget problem, but I don't think they were struggling that badly when they came up with this character. I was never the biggest fan of Yuya, but come on. Talk about making a duel impossible to enjoy even as a duelist, let alone as the audience.
    Yuri vs. Yugo. I hated Yuri's duel against Asuka more than this one. It's not on the same level of Blue Gal vs. Soulburner, but I still thought it was tasteless. However, I don't like Yuri's duel against Yugo either because of the reasons you already went into.
    Tomato Guy vs. Yuma. It makes sense to hate this duel since memes aside, it was pretty stupid. While I don't hate this duel, I do hate tomatoes and everything this episode stands for. All I can really appreciate about this duel are the memes. Granted, I understand how Yuma felt before he learned he actually likes tomatoes. If I had to eat something I hate before I could do anything meaningful, I'd lose the duel. On the other hand, it's pretty interesting to know that Yuma found out he likes tomatoes in the middle of a duel instead of at the dinner table.
    Team 5D's vs. Team Unicorn. This was one of the dumbest losses in the video, but generic human stupidity is still a valid reason to lose a duel. I've lost count of how many duels I've lost because of weird decisions that didn't need to be made. However, in this situation, I doubt I'd have overlooked my opponent having no cards left in his deck. So, this guy did something worse than any of my countless misplays. Guys. That's a serious accomplishment. I accidentally attacked the Dark Magician with Number 70 once, which was unintentional but I was still mindless enough at the time to do it. Although, to be honest, Number 70's effect makes it less stupid compared to that time I attacked Yubel and lost. Whatever I was doing or thinking at the time I chose to attack Yubel, I'm not able to tell you.

    Yugo Vs Yuri is pretty bad. But Yuri Vs Alexis may be as bad if not worse. I mean how insulting is it for Alexis to loose not just to Yuri, but to a structure deck that isn’t even his main cards. And for her to loose just to advertise the upcoming ancient gear, structure deck, is just bad!

    Here's a duel I know I hated. Revolver vs. Lightning. Lightning kept finding ways to cheat by using Jin as a human shield and using a "not-official" Grit skill to survive a draw. And the most hypocritical thing was Bowman calling him out for the Jin shield and then changing his mind with the survival point. I know you like it Dylan and I cannot remember if you count it as a loss for Revolver, but that petty crap Lightning pulled shouldn't have went through. I will always see this result as a draw.

    10:30 Holy shit dude this episode was so fucking ass, it made me drop zexal. I wanted to catch up to yugioh (i needed to watch zexal and arc v) and, at first i wasn't digging zexal too much bc yuma was annoying to me (i was watching the dub so maybe that's my fault) anyways, i remember that later i was actually getting hooked. Despite what i felt about yuma, i was enjoying the plot, even the standalone episodes were pretty cool. Then i saw this episode and i just... it killed my investment.
    Edit: i really should get back to it tho...

    I feel vindicated by this list because there are just writing decisions that the team does to make ends meet and it is really painful
    Especially Aoi vs Soulburner. They just did her dirty for no reason. Even a draw would have been enough imo

    • @CodaBlairLucarioEmperor
      @CodaBlairLucarioEmperor ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's really the case for every Aoi duel tbh. They always did her so dirty. Pretty much her only wins were against essentially cannon fodder and Haru, and with Haru they were the underdog and not Aoi. They even went out of their way to have Bohman not just be worried about him, but also to have him directly tell Haru that he stood no chance. Not to mention how when fighting Bohman, unlike Soulburner who actually was able to push Bohman back once he summoned his Link 4, when her and Aqua summoned Wonder Heart she was still entirely on the defensive and couldn't do anything. They went out of their way to make it seem like she may be able to survive Bohman's attack. It's especially frustrating because I love Aoi's character, and especially how they had her become Emma's protege, but they handled it all so poorly. For everybody besides Yusaku, Varis, and the Ignis', past the first season, they really ruined the characters. I even love Soulburner and the symbolisn of him continually rebuilding who he is, but they never actually went off of that besides his backstory. Then you also have Spectre, Emma, and pretty much every other character.
      I'm sorry for the rant. It's just so frustrating just how much missed potential there was in Vrains.

    • @jerbear8884
      @jerbear8884 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@CodaBlairLucarioEmperor no I perfectly agree with this and feel the sentiment. It's especially telling because Aoi was unironically playing the strongest deck at the time. So not only did they kneecap her story potential but her dueling prowess for the sake of the boys

    • @CodaBlairLucarioEmperor
      @CodaBlairLucarioEmperor ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jerbear8884 They also did the same thing with Emma. They really should've had her in Mirror Vrains and not her brother. Or at the very least have both of them. Akira is understandable not being in there since he was never even really a duelist and only actually had the one duel with Playmaker.

    • @jerbear8884
      @jerbear8884 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@CodaBlairLucarioEmperor Akira also had the duel with Specter. On the note of Specter I think he's a cool villain but I think Aoi should have won against him, and then a loss to Varis. Just in general knee capping duelists with hyperspecific cards so Playmaker and Soulburner can look way cooler

    Weirdly I was not too fond of a duel mainly cause of a comment at the end. When Soulburner vs Roboppi... when the virus left and returned to normal. Right before (s)he died he made a comment and I was disgusted by it. The original version only not the dubbed. They removed the comment.
