Coolest car and douchiest driver, must be nice to be born into money rather then having to work for it and borrow like Dale did . Really wish the number and paint scheme got retired
I visit RCR every year in Feb to pay tribute to Dale and relive the history I grew up watching since I was a little guy from the early 80's. You can feel a presence there that you have to visit to understand. It's hard to believe it's been 20 years.
That's got to be tough to walk through there without Dale around. Richard and Dale were so close because they both were racers and knew what each other wanted in racing. I'm glad Richard was able to do this tour because I'm sure that there are moments where misses Dale. But I'm sure having those cars around helps with the healing process as Dale Earnhardt drove those cars and its like having him there.
I have been to the museum and RCR campus several times and find something new every time...Dale was the Man! As Richard Childress often says: "Only in America!"
Great tour Richard!!! I’ve been to the original museum back in 94 when Dale was still alive. RCR had a open house, and EVERYONE that works there, was signing autographs, and I got almost ALL of them. I even got Richard’s wife Judy to autograph a picture. I waited 7 hours to get Dale’s autograph, and he gave me a thumbs up, and smile. Most everyone was getting racing memorabilia signed, but I had a copy of Realtree Magazine, with Dale on the cover. He harvested a trophy whitetail at the Sanctuary in Michigan. Bill Jordon signed the back cover next to a picture of his trophy, and said “tell Dale he better sign this, because I said so”. I think that’s why Dale had that big smile on his face, when I told him what Bill said, because next to racing, hunting was his passion. I really want to go to the new museum, especially after watching this video.
I’m in the process of moving digging through all my Earnhardt stuff, witch I have a lot, been throwing in Race,s everyday here I’m fricking miss my Man, Racing ain’t the same, I’m sorry, but it’s true, Thanks for the memory,s MR GOODWRENCH !!! 3.....RIP....
This has to be my favorite garage tour so far. This was really, a candid look at RCR in the past and also NASCAR as well, as both entities were virtually unrecognizable from their current forms today. I loved seeing these things in high-quality unseen anywhere else, even the classic Dale cars. They popped. The old shop looks just fantastic too. I really want to be able to see this place in-person. I'd be staring at everything for hours if I had the chance lmao
@Two Black Labs Ooh that sounds even better. Unfortunately I live in SoCal but if I ever find myself in a position to head there I'd do it. Hopefully one of these days that happens.
This video made me cry a little. NASCAR died with Dale. I miss my dad, my uncle Hank and Larry Bliss; they all made me a big huge fan of NASCAR and Dale WAS NASCAR. Time, you cruel bastard. God bless Dale
Thank you......still missing Dale and you together. Your loyalty to each other was the envy of the Racing World when Dale had DEI up and going but would only drive that Black 3 Car for RCR. Greatest period in racing.
Good to see Mr. Childress. His museum is a very special place to visit. Glad also to see the charitable contributions, as that is representative of giving when you've been blessed with a lot. Of course, with COVID, we are seeing how important immunity is--and how important the foods we eat, along with our exercise, affects our health. When NASCAR starts to educate people and change the fast food and cola sponsorships, I will be very happy. Thank you. Blessings.
Right. I still remember watching AD on fox win the 500. I been a dale sr/jr fan for years and seeing the 3 win it 20 years after dale, its something i wont forget
Watched every race that was on TV from mid 80's until that fateful day in 2001. Haven't had the desire to watch a race since. It surprised me that I cried for such a long time over losing Dale. I guess it wasn't until we lost him that I realized he was my hero. RIP
That's an awesome collection from Richard Childress. I'm glad I watched Dale Earnhardt raced when I was a kid since 1998. Even though Dale is long gone, but he was my hero to start off with. Plus, RCR is my favorite team too.
I hadn't seen Richard since 1975 at Daytona. He was in the Firecracker 400 & I was entered in the Paul Revere 250 IMSA race. I borrowed a gas ⛽ can from him in anticipation of having to refuel our 32 gal tank. Unfortunately I didn't last that long. It's good to see Richard still out there & apparently still in good health. We had some good times together. Great guy.
Richard, I remember you having your shop on Waughtown Street beside the curb market. We used to aggravate the crap out of you for decals, lol. Man that's a long time ago! You have gone so far since those days. Still ride by the old shop on Gumtree every day back and forth to work. Congrats to you Sir!
People that not only save history but persevere it in its original condition are the real heros. Thank you Richard Childress for keeping everything the way you did and presenting it how you have. I love that you left some of the cars in race day condition. My mom worked for the local Chevrolet dealership from 1982 until retirement this year and growing up we got all the best Goodwrench and Intimidator swag. I hope my mom saved all the old gear lol. We were no doubt a #3 household. I will probably never get to go see all those wonderful memories in person but it gives me chill bumps to see all of this and grateful this video was made. Keep up the great work RCR. Bowties forever!
Thank you Richard for preserving the memories. I hope all these cars and items are going go be protected for generations to come. To many times grandkids and great grandchildren sell off history to the highest bidders. All these cras need to be held in a trust.
This is honestly the content we need. And hearing from our legendary NASCAR owners we love is awesome. So cool to see him so excited about his teams history. Really great video NASCAR and thank you for continuing to be the best fan service 🔥

Can y'all do a video of Richard Childress telling the story of Dale Earnhardt Sr. buying all the merchandise from the shop and why he did it? I think that's something everyone should hear. Such a heart-warming story of the man, the myth, and the legend.
Cool random story. So I currently live in Welcome, NC, less than a mile from the RCR shops and museum. Way back when I was in third grade in 1997, my mom picked my sister and myself up from school one afternoon, and we just went kind of cruising around, we ended up driving down past the RCR shops for whatever reason. As we were turning around to head back out to the main road, a helicopter appears in the sky. It was flying really low, and looked like it might even be landing. We stopped to watch it land, which it did behind one of the shops, on the other side of a tall barb-wired fence. And guess who steps out of the back once it lands? None other than the Intimidator himself. It was unmistakably him. He just casually walked into the open garage door in back of the shop, and vanished inside. I begged my mom to take us inside the museum to try and see him, but she wouldn't do it.
One could even imagine that had Dale not passed away, a literal fleet of #3 Goodwrench Chevrolets would be seen racing even today, perhaps with Dale himself as the team principal, Dale Jr. possibly having inherited the drive and being a championship winner
I have been in this museum at least twice, and I would love to see it again. I drive a black s10 truck, that was purchased new from dale Earnhardt Chevrolet.
The one thing left untouched from the wicked witch's tyranny, figuratively and literally (I'm amazed it was left exactly as it was 20 years ago), someday I'll find that museum and visit it as soon as this turbulent ride in the grass is over
Not exactly, because for starters, Childress was with Earnhardt longer than that bitch ever was, plus she would most likely lose because Dale left the number and his cars to Richard, meaning they're in good hands. Also, isn't it illegal to sue for such a petty reason as saying the name out loud?
Not a fan of "ParityCar" but kinda glad I spent this 12 minutes watching a self made man, walk thru the how and why he's where he is today. Kudos, Mr Childress, for all that u have done for your sport, your family and your charities. You don't need a peeon like me to tell you this, but well done!!!
First time being able to see all those cars first time I've ever been in the building visually maybe one day I'll get to visit really thank you for sharing this this was awesome
Rod Osterlund sold his team to JD Stacy half-way through 1981. Dale Earnhardt didn't like his new owner and around the July Talladega weekend Earnhardt made an agreement to run the last 10 races for Childress. But when it was all over with, Childress wasn't ready for Earnhardt. 1982 and 1983, Ricky Rudd drove number 3 and eventually won in 1983. Earnhardt goes back to Childress in 1984 and from that point on, there was no stopping those guys.
All these years later the black #3 is still the coolest looking car to ever grace NASCAR.
Was nice looking kinda reminds me of Gran National. car. Will always be my favorite

True, but he also let his grandson use Dale's #3
The 3 was Richards number.
Not enough to retire that style 3 like you would a jersey in the NFL
This makes me miss Dale even more! 😔

I can attest to that presence. I feel different when I'm there. Almost very relaxed, at peace. As if Dale's spirit is there.
