Current NASCAR is nothing like what it was. I am a sucker for anything Pre-2000. I was born in 88 and went to so many races with my dad in the 90s and with me being from Darlington SC i know all the history before my time as well. My Papa and Cale Yarborough always quail hunted together on my Papas land in Timmonsville, always would do things as couples together with the wives when Cale was in town, and would always make sure to see me and give me something cool every time. I have so many things Cale has given me from his racing days from helmets, gloves, and goggles to tires, doors, and a engine block. All that i have made into cool furniture in my shop. Greatest memories ever. He still gives me things to this day and i always make sure to go have a bite to eat with him whenever we both can. He is the absolute best story teller and like a second grandpa.

      That's awesome!!
As a kid I'd ride my bike over to Elmo's "shop" (2 car garage.)
Hung on every word and sight. Ran the whole damn schedule piecing the cars and motors back together on near nothing every week. Still have my "Sunny King" patch he gave me. Early 80s. Remember when he got his "new" sleek '83 T Bird. Got that dicast sitting on my bar. Can't shake the(my) best days of NASCAR.

Got the opportunity to meet Bill Rhine at the Charlie Craig Cruise In last month. Super nice person, very personable. Loves to talk shop and talk about what he does. He was doing a pretty cool thing...Will Cronkrite was there to meet people and sell copies of his awesome book. Mr. Rhine brought the Jolly Rancher car that you saw briefly in the feature above to be on display. That car was one of Mr. Cronkrite's cars from the past. I'd love to get that tour as well, I Hope someday...he's also built some scale model aircraft carriers that are just unbelievable!!! A good man for sure!!!

I do remember the late 80’s into the 90’s when the big $ started coming in but at the same time NASCAR was still fun to watch. Petty was just getting out of the car, Davey was still alive, Darrell and Dale were still in their prime.
