    I got an iPhone XR when it came out. 256GB storage with intense use. Battery is at 81% capacity. It used to be a 10 hour phone, but now needs a new battery. Aside from that, I have no issues. None. I don’t game. No multi-tasking issues. I don’t do much photography so it meets my needs there.
    I have no need to upgrade beyond needing a new battery. I love my XR.
    Previous phones were iPhone 7 and 5.

    Got an XR in 2018 and has been my daily driver. Just got a new battery installed and I will probably stick with it till the end of support or at least two more years so I've graduated. Then I'll snag one of those cool yellow 14s refurbished as my new one. I think the limited ram has been its biggest issue but even then its not bad at all. Really happy with my purchase.

  • @Aaron-hv4hr
    @Aaron-hv4hr ปีที่แล้ว +116

    I’ve been using the XR for around 3 years and I barely noticed the battery getting drained faster these past few weeks. I must admit I never really took the best care of it (playing video games while charging on a hot summer day 🤦‍♂️) as I didn’t know better, so that’s probably why my battery health plummeted to 80%.
    However, unless you care about the battery lasting all day, I’d say it’s still a viable phone to have as your main device. Unless you’re coming from a newer model, you don’t really notice the difference between opening apps on a newer one and the XR. The constant background app closing is a bit annoying but I can look past it since opening apps doesn’t take long anyway.
    I’m hesitant to upgrade because I’m not sure if it’s all that necessary just yet. I might take Brandon’s advice and wait until the next phone is announced 🤷‍♂️

Got a good trade in price and got the 12 on release day have had it since it came out. Honestly for a 2+ year old phone it runs like it’s brand new that I never got with a Samsung phone over a year and a half old. I’m like you now tho looking for that upgrade but its not really worth as this years iPhones are sort of dry and don’t really offer much more then even last years 13.

    I can’t believe how popular the iPhone XR is, when it first came out, the sales were disappointing. Apple was so desperate to sell it, fast forward to now, it’s one of the best selling iPhone models ever. this phone was the blueprint for the regular iPhone 11, iPhone 12, and iPhone 13.

    I use the iPhone 14 pro but I used the XR back in 2018 and 2019 and it is by far my favorite iPhone from a legacy standpoint. Even back in 2018 I preferred it over the XS because of the 6.1 in display and the 25hr on and off battery life. The Liquid Retina displays colors also looked more natural as colors in apples earlier OLEDs tended to look over saturated at least for me as well as having the PWM issue but apple has quietly tweaked those issues over generations. The iPhone XR despite having aluminum actually even held up better than the XS back in 2018 as the XS had an issue where if you dropped it on the corner it would take a chunk out of the display because the stainless steel was too ridged. The XR also took better night shots it had to do with not having a telephoto lense that on the XS gave more noise to night shots so this was before night mode.

    I have had my XR for 5 years now from new Brandon and still love it. Like you I just love its simple unclutted almost lens free design. You can lay is on a desk withour it wobbling too. Can't do that with any phones today. If Apple introduced a similar single camera design with an LED screen I would jump on it. I am pretty sure more than 90% of average people that own say an iphone 14 etc barely use the majority of the features, so why pay more. My 10R does everyting I need and I like my tech. Better screen and new chip and it would be perfect.

    I love my XR. I got it for my birthday back in April 2019. Never got it replaced, never broke or cracked it. Very durable phone. The only other iPhone I had prior was the iPhone 6s I believe. I’m currently planning on upgrading to the iPhone 14 pro, since it’s the newest one on the market & my XR has showed some signs of it getting older. It’ll cut off by itself randomly then turn back on, it overheats super quick if I’m at the pool, Beach, or just using it for long periods. It’s had some glitches to where I have to turn it off & back in. The battery can go down very quickly too, especially on Snapchat or other apps. But, it’s nothing too serious to where I felt I needed to upgrade. My phones paid off, and definitely due for an upgrade. I probably won’t trade my XR in, I def wanna keep it. Im excited for the iPhone 14 pro, it’ll be my 3rd iPhone and I probably will keep that one forever until it just dies on me lol 😂 I’ve kept the XR for over 4 years & i feel like I’m lowkey losing a good friend lol. I had the XR for a lil over 4 years too and i'd say you might as well wait until the 15 pro comes out in a lil over a month, it will have some better cosmetic features than the 14 pro: titanium casing (which is more durable), much longer battery life, periscope camera lenses, and usb-c charging, which is an industry standard right now for fast data transferring

    I bought the red XR at release and it’s been my daily driver since. I’m still at 89% battery capacity. I agree about the screen in the sun and my Face ID never worked out in the sun so I turned it off and just use a passcode. Holding out for the 15 or later (USB-C) because I can’t stand having multiple cables for the different devices. 😂

    Got my XR in November of 2019, aside from a few clumsy drops on my part leading to some cracks on the back, this is easily the most durable and long lasting phone I’ve had. I honestly don’t see any reason in upgrading until it literally gives up on me from a dead screen or battery or something.
    Currently it’s at 78% max battery capacity (not sure if that’s good or bad for almost 4 years tbh) and I’m planning to use it till it’s last breath. New iPhones now, as far as I’ve seen, really only have nicer cameras and slightly better chips. The difference though is so negligible that I really don’t see a point in getting the newest and shiniest iPhone

Haven’t had a screen protector on it for almost 3 years now, a few chips, but pretty pristine. Though, there is a small dot on the bottom of the screen from who knows what drop/ fall. I do plan to but the 14 pro max soon, don’t feel like I need to wait for the 15 or whatever they announce, and just want a new phone. One of the main problems with this review is bias. The main target audience of this phone isn't those who have 2 grand to blow on a 14 pro max. Most are probably coming from an iPhone 6 or 7, and from that point of view the iPhone XR is an amazing phone. It may not be up to newer standards but then again most target clientele aren't used to 120hz OLED displays.

    something else the XR is good for; international travel. The XR has dual SIM support AND eSIM support. That means you can easily pick up a data-only travel eSIM and get cheap internet access when traveling. Good luck finding that in any new phone available today without spending a LOT more money. The closest option is the iPhone SE2 (which is also a great value). On the Android side, Samsung only offers eSIM on their top-end S and Z series. Any recent Pixel would be a good fit, too. I've found the other manufacturers to be pretty inconsistent in feature support from model to model, and region to region. But for this price point, the iPhone XR is a great travel phone.

    It’s strange how none of the reviews ever mention the modems within these devices and how it affects cellular and wifi connectivity performance. The Xr had a garbage Intel modem and its cellular and wifi connectivity performance was noticeably worse than than its predecessors with the Qualcomm modems in them. Not to mention it was only 2x2 MIMO capable which severely restricted cellular and WiFi speeds. WiFi connectivity would frequently drop and cellular connectivity would take a beating on highways and interstates where cell towers are not as dense as in sprawling urban areas. I hung on to it for about two and half years but finally let go of it because of the fact that the device isn’t true 5G capable. Reviewers forget that the primary function of a phone is to make and receive calls and cellular and WiFi connectivity performance is supremely important over all else.
