    The Wakizashi will be mentioned in the dagger video. I didn't really want to put it in the katana one as it would be pretty confusing when I repeat it in the dagger vid.
    As for how it fares in the powerstance, it makes your powerstance move set slightly faster while using a bit less stamin. However, your range turns very short. My personal preference is to use another katana over the Wakizashi because it feels very awkward when your main hand is hitting but your off-hand is not. If you are a parry fan though, you can use the Wakizashi for the sake of parrying (but remember it overwrites your main hand katana ash of war).

      @@xTiamat Katana moveset is amazing as is. Bleed is absolutely broken in PvP and PvE
      The Serpent Blade has no bleed, deals poison, and has a nice skill to boot. I find it the most fun to play with, and against, for those reasons.
      Also, why would you want to play with the best weapons? Isn't it kinda badass to dunk on your enemies by using weapons that aren't meta?

    • @BloodyInitiate
      @BloodyInitiate 2 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Bleed in Elden Ring and DS1 is horrible design. Idk what it was like in DS3 and don’t remember it being a problem in DS2, but the “I hit you so many times then I get to do a significant % of your health for free” is really awful and encourages lazy play and lazy design.
      It does teach aggression, which is useful, but it’s so badly programmed that the aggression it teaches is 100% moronic.
      It also lets designers be lazy. “How do we make this boss tougher? MORE HP. They’ve got bleed.”
      It’s ALWAYS been a bad idea badly implemented. Nothing is good about it from a design perspective.

    • @VegGeorgie
      @VegGeorgie 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@BloodyInitiate How can it teach aggression AND encourage lazy play? You're contradicting yourself. If you think the designers of this game are lazy you're out of your mind. The bleed and frost in this game do significant damage in comparison to other titles because they have a major lore significance. People seem to not recognize this.

    • @BloodyInitiate
      @BloodyInitiate 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@VegGeorgie aggression isn’t inherently NOT lazy, that’s how it’s not a contradiction. Pressing forward and spamming R1 or L2 doesn’t make you “not lazy.” Having your build be “I buff up and then the game prohibits you from withstanding my attacks because the numbers are badly designed” is lazy. And the fact - yes fact - that the numbers are badly designed is also evidence of laziness. Players should almost never be one-shorting other players in a game this laggy.
      EVERYONE is lazy about something. There isn’t enough time in your life to do everything as well as you possibly can. Just because you work hard at one thing doesn’t mean you work hard at everything and are excused from criticism forever.
      From soft is seriously lazy about PVP balance, netcode, and a lot of other things. They’re great at level design, clearly possess prolific imaginations for enemy design, and have more ways for you to take an encounter apart than any other developer I can think of. Their lore is lazy, despite being lauded, because it’s the same in every game.
      Bleed as it appears in this game and DS1 is just bad. It’s a bad idea badly executed. It allows players to be lazy by not actually learning to do damage with any other game mechanics. It allows developers to be lazy by just juicing up enemy HP instead of enhancing them with actually engaging mechanics like new attacks or better AI.

    Those katanas are good, but as someone who ran into Moonveil by chance and Rivers by choice, I can say that for the first it's because there is no other INT weapon as viable as Moonveil until you beat Radahn, Rennala, and Astel and get the Dark Moon Greatsword. Everything else is just a decent enough ash that usually isn't fast enough. For Rivers of Blood, it's good if you pump ARC and amazing if you pump both ARC and DEX. Same as Moonveil, there's really nothing as fast and hard-hitting in that category, though I would like to give props to Eleonora's Poleblade art for having enough poise damage to stunlock Malenia in her first phase and enough hyperarmor to power through anything shy of a pancake attack.
    Personal opinions plus some of my friends:
    Friend: Uchigatana is great for when you get it and can be used very quickly. Cannot recommend enough.
    Me: Nagakiba requires either Altus Plateau or killing an NPC early, but it's got some impressive range on it for when you eventually get it.
    Comments: Serpentbone Blade is really lackluster as its art is plain and cannot be changed, but it at least has some style.
    Me: Meteoric Ore Blade is better if you plan on running STR/INT, as it will fall off in a pure INT build under Moonveil. It can work well early on, though.
    Me: Dragonscale Blade is mid-game to reach, and the buff does not last long, but it's one of few ways to get freeze in pure physical builds without sacrificing damage.
    Videos: Hand of Malenia requires beating the hardest boss in the game and getting at least 48 DEX. If you're using it, you knew from early on this would be the case. Art is cool, at least.
    I'd guess that Uchi, Naga, and Hand are all reasonable options should your build work with them. Serpentbone really needs the ability to be ashed, or at least a better weapon art. Seems Dragonscale really just needs some buffs, as its moveset and build is fine; it could be interesting as a mainhand with a cold katana side.
    Personally, I'd have put the Wakizashi in here since it powerstances with katanas but not with other daggers. You could just mention it once in the other video with a link to this one, as well, but this is fine.
    "Early game" when regarding Dragonscale Blade doesn't really exist. It's in the Sea of Rot, which means clearing Nokstella, which means clearing either Nokron or Deeproot, which means either killing Radahn or reaching Lyndell. You're likely pushing level 100 by the time you even reach the boss that drops it.

NOT Dual Wielding, just as single Weapons, switching back and forth (Dual Wield is cool, but I prefer fighting with only one weapon at once). The Nagakiba is Quality infused, and I use Incantation- / Grease Weapon Buffs, usually Bloodflame Blade, but depending on the PVE Situation (or if I want to throw off my enemy in PVP) I use something else. For Weapon Art, I actually use Double Slash! It has great Reach, and the Bloodflame makes it very powerful! Maybe not as potent as Rivers of Blood, but at least I am more versatile with different buffs, and the Double Slash Weapon Arts uses very, very little FP! It is also great to beat most enemys! using a Bloodflame Buffed Nagakiba is what I used to defeat Malenia =)

      The S/A/B/C/D rating is not absolute. Think of it like letter grades in school. Getting an A can range from 93-100 points on a test. It works the same here. What you can be sure is if a weapon has a B rating in strength and a C rating in dexterity, strength will definitely scale better than dexterity. But if I told you Bob and Mary both got a C on their test, you're not sure who got 73 points and who got 76 points. I will make more videos on mechanics too!

    Hi, meteoric ore blade simp here. I run it with a charge attack focus build, and while I can attest the gravitas isn't the best weapon art (at least, it's no corpse piler) but between the hyperarmor & damage output of those snappy heavies, the way I've played grav is either - you get hit/staggered out of whatever you're doing, drawn in for what is either a guaranteed light (I think?) or a second mixup if I decide to throw a heavy. If you see it coming, then that means you owe me one roll. It might set you both back at neutral, but you basically ensure they react or get hit. It's a very fun game to play.

    • @Chrightt
      @Chrightt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The problem with gravitas is recovery out of roll is faster than recovery out of gravitas animation, so if I do 1 roll and you are within my weapon range, I will always land a free hit (in PVP). If gravitas wasn't so damn slow, it'll definitely be a better weapon art.

    The thing about moonveil is that it falls off at higher levels. Moonveil’s weapon art does magic and slash damage that adds up to about the same damage as unsheathe. As per chrightt’s damage calculation video, this makes its damage reduced TWICE through magic negation AND slash negation.

    Craightt,
    I need to disagree on the Meteoric Ore Blade with you.
    The Weapon Art is useful in certain circumstances. I created a new Astrologer and rushed the Blade and the Meteor staff to build a low level gravity mage.
    I was able to poise break the Troll / Giant near the Gatefront Grace with 2 heavy attacks and was able to dismount those Kaidan riders with a single Weapon Art.
    It instantly knocks any flying enemy out of the air as well.
    This is just something that i still need to test but, I saw a video where someone pitted the full-grown Star beast (whatever) vs Radahn and it cancelled his 2nd phase jump with the gravity attack. Maybe this works with this katana as well.
    Anyways, the Weapon deals HUGE poise damage for easy stance breaks and the WA beats those annoying bats out of the air instantly.

    To Chrightt & Fellow Community Members, I have a very interesting question about the Meteoric Ore Blade's R2 Attack. PLEASE READ:
    Would the Meteoric Ore Blade's Kendo-styled heavy attack apply a headshot damage multiplier to an enemy if the strike successfully lands headfirst- and if so, would that make its R2 & Charged R2 more powerful than that of its counterparts in comparison?
    ( Note: I'm referring to the same ability that bosses with downward, vertical melee/weapon attacks have, where if their attack strikes you directly from above, more damage is afflicted to your tarnished simply because their attack also landed as a headshot. )

      @Chrightt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, for powerstancing for most people it literally is just naga/uchi with seppuku (which is very effective). The wakizashi will be in the dagger video. I was wondering if I should include it in the katana video, but I figured I was really explaining katanas as a main option. The Wakizashi's reach/weight is still more suited for the dagger. I will be mentioning it and talking about its powerstance with katanas instead (otherwise I would be including something like the sacrificial axe in a mage video instead of an axe video).
      Also, I will most likely be doing a video on powerstancing in general or dual wielding weapons of different types. Sorry, I didn't want the video to be too confusing by including a dagger into a katana video instead of the dagger video. Although, if you want some quick thoughts on Wakizashi, I think it is an ok option if you like the faster powerstance, but the damage isn't higher because the Wakizashi just deals less damage. Personally think it is good for roleplaying as a samurai, but not an extraordinarily effective combination to replace just off-handing another katana because of the short range.

    Wait, how does having two different damage types make to lose more dps from defense compared to one damage type? I mean, If a enemy had 10% damage reduction to any type of damage, and you did 100 damage, you would end up with 90 damage, but if your weapon did 50 physical damage and 50 cold, you would and up with 45 and 45 damage, so 90 again? Or is there a flat damage reduction, like -10 damage, in which case you would get 80 damage instead of 90 in the second scenario?

    • @Chrightt
      @Chrightt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      having split damage reducing damage is assuming both damage types have the same negation and defense. Reduction is split into negation (a % reduction) and defense (more of a flat damage reduction). So yes, there is a flat damage reduction. All PVE enemies have at least 100 defense (and all players have some level of defense too - very dependent on player level). If your weapon has 400 AR of physical damage vs 200 physical + 200 fire the only way the split-scaling weapon will do more damage is if the % reduction (negation) of the fire is significantly lower than the physical reduction.

      Nah the r2 not stepping forward allows you to mixup, the mixup potential comes from the second R2 looking almost identical to the start up of double slash, so you can set up little 50/50's where they have to guess which attack you're doing. You can chain r2>double slash>r2>r2>double slash etc for as long as you have stam and it's very hard to tell which move is coming next.
      Also if you r2 into double slash you can proc the poison in one combo sometimes, and they only avoid the buildup by rolling out of range. Serpentbone's deadly poison proc is way better than regular poison btw, it's basically scarlet rot in terms of dps. It's a very good weapon.
