Catch Flame also has a pretty nice use. The beginning of your playthrough. It, out of all the classes starting spells, does a surprising amount of damage. So much in fact, that you can bring the two stonesword keys, and go into the dungeon in the starting area. Make your way to the boss area (there’s a statue in front of it), and you can deal like 300 damage bursts of fire. Eventually you can kill it for a decent summon, and 16000 runes

You can sort of control Placidusax by unlocking and tilting the stick around. The beam sweeps from left to right to left so tilt the stick from right to left to right to try and target a single area. Against enemies that get staggered by the beam, it's a giant chunk of guaranteed damage if you time and control it properly.
I have something of an adoration of the Aspect of the Crucible: Horn. I simply refer to it as the shoulder bash, and it is incredibly fun to use against players. Almost guaranteed stagger.
Pro tip: All the AoE healing spells do a fixed amount of 2 HKO damage to Revenants. This means even when you enter the later areas of the game, like the Haligtree, you don't necessarily have to use the more expensive healing spells for those types of enemies and you can instead just use Heal which only uses 32 FP. This means less Faith investment and less FP consumption which you might want to minimize anyway depending on your build. The only downside is that I think the range is increased on the bigger healing spells but you'd be surprised by the range and amount of active frames Heal has despite being the least powerful healing AoE spell.
Shadow Bait is great for a Miséricorde build. You can backstab, cast, and the enemy you just stabbed will target the bait, making for yet another effortless backstab.
Something of note that I found with the Rejection Incantation was that it was really good at breaking the poise of Crystalians. It would always knock them down and I'd just funnel them all into a corner and hit them while they stood up, and then use Rejection again to keep them stunlocked.
Death Lightning is a pvp version of Ancient Dragon's Lightning Strike. It does less damage but causes Deathblight. Deathblight only effects other players. So if you like using ADLS in pve you can switch it with DL in pvp and have the same crowd control with added status damage.
This is Vaati level quality but applied to mechanics dude, well done Rusty! First video I've ever seen of yours, I'm now going to search your channel for more like this!
This is the first "Elden Ring Tips" video i've seen in ages that actually showed tips that aren't blatantly obvious. I actually learned some stuff today. A lot of stuff.
20:10, Vykes dragon bolt is literally electrify armament with a better great jar arsenal. At the cost of a body buff slot and getting your lightning negation tanked. If it had a 5 minute duration or something maybe it would be useful, as that would make it viable for long fights to increase equip load.
I've been using the second tip all the time in invasions at the haligtree but with fortisax spears, makes for a very dangerous payload to drop on oblivious hosts and their summons
Poison Mist is a decent way to silently kill a group of mobs where a backstab would otherwise alert the rest. It can also let you kill field bosses without aggro-ing them if you have the FP (and especially the patience) to pull it off. Everything else is mostly right on the money though.
I never knew Shabriri’s howl buffed damage dealt at all, I just assumed that was the masochist’s way of not having to use a talisman slot! Definitely going to be adding it to my build now!
Fortification spells are really OP in pvp, especially the magic one, you go from being two shot by moonveil to needing 4 to 5 hits which is really strong. In pve I would say they are helpful when you struggle against a boss, such as the holy dmg negation one against the final boss.
One big PvE tip with darkness is that it's essentially a free backstab. The way it breaks agro is by having the enemy stop whatever they're doing, and slowly walk to the center of the spell. For ~5 seconds they won't react to you unless you attack them. Shadowbait works better, though it only works on humanoids. But you can't get shadowbait until you hit the capital, so it's great for early game.
Lightning Spear also has the distinction of being one of the few spells Malenia CANNOT dodge if *uncharged*. Use this combined with a Spirit Ash summon like Tiche or a good Mimic setup and pelt her with Lightning til she dies. It keeps Malenia's aggro on you, so you need to keep your distance and know the dodge-timings of her attacks, but it does preserve your Spirit for phase 2.
I've found 2 very good uses for Elden Stars 1) In pvp it is VERY useful as a pressure spell, it moves slowly and makes people chain roll to avoid it giving you time to set up another spell Try using it the same way you would use something like ancient rancor or swarm of flies to set up one spell before you follow up with another 2) It has the longest range of any PvE incantation (including frenzied burst), it is great for farming, send one to the farthest mob you can see and then set up a dragon's breath to catch them all when they come to you
Another good use I found is in PVP, if you aren’t sure that someone might Gank you, send it down a hallway or into the air. If there is a player around it will force them out, letting you start the fight on your terms. It also absolutely makes your opponent waste time trying to outrun it.
Another tip for Frenzied Burst: It travels fast enough for bosses and enemies that dodge spells to still get hit by it. This includes Malenia - if you can find the spacing and have the FP, you can kill Malenia using nothing but frenzied burst
After almost 900 hours, using incantations in almost every build I've done, I thought I knew these pretty well, and yet I'm still learning new tricks, especially that one about dual casting Dragon Claw, that's amazing. Instantly saving this video to my favorites so I can come back to it whenever I'm thinking of building around a specific Incantation
9:48 this is incorrect, Flame grant me strength increases both physical and fire-affinity damage, says so in its description even. 9:58 Flame Protect Me only increases fire damage negation, so I dunno how it would save you from that grab.
Honestly Elden Stars is one of those abilities that gives people a false sense of belief like, "Oh, this does NO damage hah" and then the actual orb itself explodes on them and takes a good chunk of their health - to which...They're more careful and more likely to run away when it's cast. I use it all the time in PvP lol
I use Elden stars in PVP. I've found it useful for when your opponents won't leave the center arena and just post up for you to roll into a one-hit smash. Elden stars make everyone run around, making it easier to get closer.
Bonus tip for howl of Shabriri: it has the same charging animation as frenzied burst. A decently poised frenzy cleric can can make use of this in pvp. Open with Howl of Shabriri, either to hit or create space as you poke them with Vyke's Spear. If you want cast it a few more times. Switch to frenzied burst and charge it when the enemy is closing in. They'll back off thinking it's howl. Then they get blasted by a laser.
Frenzied Burst is especially unique among incantations, because you know how most powerful enemies are programmed to instantly dodge any projectile you fire? Frenzied Burst breaks that and makes them dodge only AFTER being hit, much like with the dark glintstone sorceries.
Honestly all your videos on the soulsborne games and eldenring are some of the best and most helpful I've seen, while still being funny and entertaining.
Something for Scarlet Aeonia; I've noted that if you cast it at the beginning of the Radagon fight, he will nearly 100% of the time get rotted and you'll be able to act before he finishes his starting animation.
I realize this video was pushing almost a year ago by this point, and the amount of work that goes into it is probably immense, but getting a patch 1.09 update to this video would be *phenomenal*
Man, I know this video really taxed you but I gotta say I’m really grateful you took the time to go thru all of these. I’m on NG+2 and level 320 and I learned ALOT. Thanks my guy!
Another tip for scouring black flame, you can actually throw it through pillars in the godskin duo fight to get free damage on the skinny idiot while he casts black flame or just stands there menacingly.
I actually have a tip for divine fortification. You can obtain it before fighting Margit. And since 60%of his attacks are holy damage, this incantation is really good for that.
Here's another tip for Ancient Dragons' Lightning Strike: Cast it on horseback so you're not a total sitting duck. It's the only Ancient Dragon spell that doesn't get hyperarmor but it's also the only one you can cast on Torrent, so take advantage of that. Slowly sidle up between a dragon's legs as you're casting and watch that health bar plummet.
A quick note about placidusax ruin. There is an initial hit that occurs almost instantly after you cast the spell that has... actually solid damage, but most importantly can throw things back. Somebody runs at me in pvp for a jump attack, whip out ruin, catch them in the air, they go flying back only to be deleted by the lasers. Or just straight off a cliff. That was a really funny invasion.
Small tip, Bloodflame Blade can also dethaw any frostbitten enemies, that fire effect is not just for show. You can also take advantage of the current right hand buff bug that is still affecting shields and add frost infusion to the spiked palisade shield (which allows for a ton of frost buildup for some reason???) So now when you shield bash or shield crash, you'll freeze them, then bleed them
I've learnt to love the Flame Sling, doing my first DEX/FAITH build, bandit starting class with 14 arcane, and I managed to burn the Rune Bear boss to death. Such an underrated cast.
if your wondering elden stars use its for mimic tear, by using elden stars as mimic tear spam bosses like gurranq godfrey radagon or anything will go ham on you and tear mixing up thier combos in return giving you free hits!
another thing to add to black flame, and also drawstring greases, is that with a bit of practice, it can be a good tool in roll-catching, depending on how much of a delay the weapon your buffing gets between one R1 attack, the buff, and the next R1 attach, for obvious reasons your results may vary
Thanks for helping me bet Godfrey on ng+8 with this video. I thought Greyoll's roar was just another Rejection spell in disguise but the damage reduction it provides really saved my life.
I was watching the TH-cam app on my TV. I liked this guy’s video so much that I went all the way to my bedroom and grabbed my phone just to find it again to subscribe and like it. Great content. No stupid intro, no begging for a like or subscribe. 10 out of 10.
I noticed that a good chunk of enemies, whenever you critical hit them fall on their A5S and the time it takes them to get up is almost exactly the time it takes between the casting and actual firing of O'Flame so long as you wait for them to start the getting up animation, perfect for a follow-up to critical hitting an enemy and the stagger gives you time to roll away.
Use elden stars to make people panic roll in pvp/ guaranteed finish. U can also kinda counterract the long cast by putting darkness/blame flame ritual around urself.
practical tip for law of causality:cast the night maiden mist and enter it to receive the 5hits needed to start the retaliation timer for sure after less than four seconds .it make sure you can make it blast when you desire,at the cost of a few hp,but it also means you can time it with the blast from the explosive cracked tears and another spell like radagon's halo or the golden version or reject,or anything else you want like the godskin one or anything
for homed bolt just wanna mention that the ash of war lightning is the same as this but better since its less fp, faster cast, extremely short interval between casts, and it scales with your weapon
Another for Blackflame Blade, you can activate it whilst sprinting, giving it a cool animation and the opportunity to follow up immediately after activation.

Rusty perfectly captures the balance between not giving a fuck and also putting a ton of love into his videos
8:09 the only good use for elden stars for me is to stagger giants because the little stars hit the face constantly
It's worse than great jar arsenal.
I .. somehow someway respectfully loved how you started this .. think I’ll sub 😭
12:50 they fixed inescapable frenzy in 1.04 to no longer scale off of right hand weapon crit damage
What does it scale with now
@@ong445 as of the most recent patch, it seems to scale entirely off of the upgrade level of the seal used to cast it
Bloodflame Blade is hilarious when you slap it on the Troll's Hammer
I've been using the second tip all the time in invasions at the haligtree but with fortisax spears, makes for a very dangerous payload to drop on oblivious hosts and their summons
Incredible idea for a series, and I love your sense of humour!
Poison Mist is a decent way to silently kill a group of mobs where a backstab would otherwise alert the rest. It can also let you kill field bosses without aggro-ing them if you have the FP (and especially the patience) to pull it off.
Everything else is mostly right on the money though.
“Howl of M. Night shyamalan” 😂
12:22 the haligtree solider having a seizure from you shouting him to death is hilarious
I never knew Shabriri’s howl buffed damage dealt at all, I just assumed that was the masochist’s way of not having to use a talisman slot!
Definitely going to be adding it to my build now!
I was expecting a single generalized tip you'd explain for the duration of the video but this is much better
Fortification spells are really OP in pvp, especially the magic one, you go from being two shot by moonveil to needing 4 to 5 hits which is really strong. In pve I would say they are helpful when you struggle against a boss, such as the holy dmg negation one against the final boss.
The aspect of the crucible horns is really good for farming the albinuraics in mohgywyn palace.
For the aerial dragon incantations, you can use your left hand talisman if you also have a talisman in your right hand
Please do all ash of wars. Would be nice to learn them all. Great video 🥰
Going back to this video a year later , jeez the amounts of buffs , nerfs and fixes incantations got is nuts
Damn, this really shows how many incantations I missed, and I'm on my 7th Ng cycle.
Crucible tail is amazing against crystalians.
2 charged casts will break their armor
Honed bolt is also really useful for baiting out malenias water fowl attack, if anyone is struggling with her.
I've found 2 very good uses for Elden Stars
1) In pvp it is VERY useful as a pressure spell, it moves slowly and makes people chain roll to avoid it giving you time to set up another spell
Try using it the same way you would use something like ancient rancor or swarm of flies to set up one spell before you follow up with another
2) It has the longest range of any PvE incantation (including frenzied burst), it is great for farming, send one to the farthest mob you can see and then set up a dragon's breath to catch them all when they come to you
Another good use I found is in PVP, if you aren’t sure that someone might Gank you, send it down a hallway or into the air. If there is a player around it will force them out, letting you start the fight on your terms.
It also absolutely makes your opponent waste time trying to outrun it.
I love messing around with incantations so thanks for putting this together.
Instantly saving this video to my favorites so I can come back to it whenever I'm thinking of building around a specific Incantation

concise, no frills tips while still being engaging. subscribed
9:48 this is incorrect, Flame grant me strength increases both physical and fire-affinity damage, says so in its description even.
9:58 Flame Protect Me only increases fire damage negation, so I dunno how it would save you from that grab.
Cure poison is very handy for when you're low on flasks in a long dungeon and you realize you have like 8 meat dumplings in your inventory.
Am i the only one who wants a darkness buff? :(
Honestly Elden Stars is one of those abilities that gives people a false sense of belief like, "Oh, this does NO damage hah" and then the actual orb itself explodes on them and takes a good chunk of their health - to which...They're more careful and more likely to run away when it's cast. I use it all the time in PvP lol
How does he get his character model to be so thin? I like the way some of that armor looks but when I was trying to do it myself, I couldn't get it.
The hexinton cheat table has body proportion settings www.nexusmods.com/eldenring/mods/48
@@Rusty._ Ah damn, so only a PC thing huh? Ah well, thanks for the quick reply.
I use Elden stars in PVP. I've found it useful for when your opponents won't leave the center arena and just post up for you to roll into a one-hit smash. Elden stars make everyone run around, making it easier to get closer.
11:19 it can also mark invisible assasins
Useful well put together and funny as hell video. I thank you very much. I subscribed once I stopped laughing so hard I was crying.
Thank you for making this, I am planning to make a int-faith hybrid build so this is extremely helpful!
Thank you for being quick and not dragging it out, much appreciated
Another tip for scouring black flame, you can actually throw it through pillars in the godskin duo fight to get free damage on the skinny idiot while he casts black flame or just stands there menacingly.
God just finished my first faith playthrough and saw how many incantations I missed... love to see it
I actually have a tip for divine fortification.
Frostbite Flail with Fire's Deadly Sin, the fastest way to bump Greyoll off of their mortal coil.
Small tip, Bloodflame Blade can also dethaw any frostbitten enemies, that fire effect is not just for show.
You can also take advantage of the current right hand buff bug that is still affecting shields and add frost infusion to the spiked palisade shield (which allows for a ton of frost buildup for some reason???) So now when you shield bash or shield crash, you'll freeze them, then bleed them
Fuck this is a treat compared to all the other ten minute videos that explain one spell.
This was great to watch, but I’d also like to say, your character looks badass and there’s a lot of nice outfit-weapon combos here.
Dope ghostmane build dude
I love these videos not only do they help to learn the spells but they also give a little demo of them so I don’t need to try them out myself.
Thank you _so much_ for just cutting straight to the chase with this video, none of the minute and a half of bullshit explaining what an incantation is or telling me to comment, like and subscribe.
Just for that, you have earned a subscriber!
Aspects of the Crucible: Breath is literally only for the rats in Castle Morne when you need to farm Rune Arcs. A single Lansseax's Glaive into the room also works. I do think the breath deserves to have damage. Less than the dragon breaths, but way more than what it currently is. 🔥⚡
For vykes dragon bolt you forgot about the “looks fucking awesome” status buff
