    The thing with Beastman Cleaver is that its a shield. It has 80% phys defence and stability of a medium shield.

      if you're using beastman's cleaver (with heavy infusion obviously) it has 81 physical defense, and 62 guard boost.
      this makes it among the 5 best "weapon as shield" options in the game...
      ...and comparable to that stats of the worst medium shields.
      if you're interested in all that playstyle, your best options might be
      Greatsword
      Giant-Crusher (88 physical, 63 guard boost)
      Prelate's Inferno Crozier
      Beastman's Cleaver
      but, you're doing a strength build... so you have access to all the amazing great shields. so it seems like a rather specific niche.

      @@andy4an I did this, but with trolls golden sword, then switched to watchdog greatsword soon as I could get it. It was by a significant margin the easiest playthrough Ive had so far.
      With big boi armor and dragoncrest talisman, you take VERY little damage from even the biggest of enemies. And you have terrifying offensive capabilities without even needing to switch weapons or anything.

    The Bloodhound's Fang carried me through my first playthrough. I only picked it as my main weapon initially because I thought it looked cool and I'm a fan of curved greatswords in general, and my autism with regard to exploring meant that I had it at +9 before I even got to Altus. Also the AoW does more damage than a fully charged strong attack, whilst being far safer, so it meant you can punish certain boss openings with a hugely damaging attack without the risk of a charged strong attack.

      Bloodhound Fang has been the best weapon I’ve found for PVE other than a great hammer for some enemies. I have Morgotts sword and an omen cleaver upgraded too but I haven’t found an ash of war that seems better than the BF’s weapon art.

    One additional note about Bloodhound's Fang, it has higher motion values for all of its jumping attacks. And not just like, 10% or something lame like that. A regular jumping heavy deals about 120% damage, but Bloodhound's heavy deals over 150%.
    The fact that it hasn't been nerfed yet is proof that FromSoft absolutely LOVES this weapon.

    Bloodhound Fang with Shard of Alex and Blood Grease is just too powerful. Low stat requirements, innate bleed, pure physical damage plus it's buffable, available almost right away in your playthrough, and super OP ash of war. It combines Stamp Upward Cut with Bloodhound Step. As long as you cleanly land the initial backflip, the follow up heavy attack has crazy high damage and 41 s! You are basically invulnerable to most attacks during the follow up. This is one of those weapons that if you get early, invest in the right stats and upgrade this first, it will discourage you from using other weapons you get throughout the rest of your playthrough. I kept going back to it when I was struggling with tough enemies or bosses.

    Really loving these deep dives that you're doing. I know you're currently working yourself through the weapon classes, but I nonetheless have an interesting topic suggestion for another video some time.
    Radagon and Marikas' soreseals respectively are pretty popular in the community and found in 80% of build I've seen online. Many say the 20 free levels far outweigh the resistance penalty you receive while wearing a soreseal, but I'd love to know if that notion still holds up in late game content.

    • @Chrightt
      @Chrightt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Talisman video is in the works too! I've had more than one person ask me that question.

    • @MasterofLaziness
      @MasterofLaziness 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I've gone through the game twice, first time without soreseal, second time with. If your plan is to face-tank things, don't use one, as they drop your absorption rather significantly, possibly reaching negatives in light armor. However, both definitely have their upsisdes, as a mage with Marika's usually won't be close enough to worry about the extra damage outside of boss fights and specific cramped areas, while a melee user with Radagon's will be able to equip slightly heavier gear and gain more HP to somewhat offset the penalty.
      I was able to somewhat tank Malenia (iirc, about 5 hits to die) at ~50 VIG in Crucible Axe armor and no soreseal, whereas I was easily 2-shot (closer to 1.5 shot) in mixed light armor with Marika's at 60 VIG. While the armor makes a definite difference, it shouldn't be that significant all on its own. Sadly, I lack accurate readings here, so take this with a grain of salt.
      Use them if you need the numbers for your build and can handle the defensive penalty. If it is your first run, I would suggest against them and using one of the regular +5 talismans instead (Starscourge from Ft. Gael, Prosthetic from Millicent, Stargazer from Ranni, Two Fingers from Purified Ruins). While they are inarguably powerful, they are not to be used on any "tanky" build.
      In summary, you will get 10-15 levels of offense in exchange for similar levels lost in defense, making them "glass cannon" talismans. Use one at your own discretion and use both at your own peril. Chrightt's video will undoubtably be more in-depth on defensive losses, but hopefully this writeup can help in the meantime.

    • @MV-mp4kl
      @MV-mp4kl 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MasterofLaziness You are wrong about defence-offence lost-gain. All you gain from seal is exactly 20 lvls, which you can put where you want. For example in endurance to wear more armor, and it will give you more defences than without it, if you do it correctly and not on post 120 lvl. So it can actually make you tankier, or give you damage, it will be net gain

    • @MasterofLaziness
      @MasterofLaziness 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MV-mp4kl It does not directly invest the points, meaning you gain no defense from equipping either of them, and the points are put in exactly the stats that they define at 5 points each (VIT/END/STR/DEX for Radagon's or MND/INT/FTH/ARC for Marika's). You absolutely lose defense by equipping either Soreseal due to the absorption loss that both of them provide combined with gaining no proper levels by using either of them.

    • @Bananenbauer123
      @Bananenbauer123 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It really depends on how efficiently your build can use all the stats. For example, in my case the extra strength or the extra dex would simply not give any meaningful value - but of course you could optimize your build around using the sore or scar seal for those exact extra 3/5 points to hit certain minimum requirements on your weapons.
      Vigor and endurance are always nice, but once you reach 40 vigor the value of that is serverely reduced.
      I think all the way till rune level 60 these talismans provide great value. Going higher, I mean any higher than 80 it becomes rather debatable.
      I prefer it this way honestly, prisoner's chain was too good in dark souls 3

    Phenomenal video, I love your work! It has been very helpful for me thus far. Do you have any plans for making a whip video sometime soon? Whips are a weapon class that the tiny intricacies would make a difference on for me. Several of them are pretty similar, as there’s two infusable innate bleed whips, and two fire ones, and i don’t really know what’s best between them. Range is weird to eyeball too, assuming the whips have variable range, because you can’t compare blade length for them

    Found this while looking for other weapons like Bloodhound's Fang. The reason it can be buffed with other damage types is that its damage type is purely physical. There are other somber weapons that also deal only physical damage and can accept buffs as well. Bleed counts as a physical damage type for this purpose.

    magma guillotine is interesting because not only does it have huge poise, but the weapon art damage 'lingers' in the lava pool for a second after you do it - so even if you miss an enemy might walk into the magma and suddenly take 1k damage. Killed quite a few people who dodged the initial hit but ran in thinking it was safe just because its the lava.

    • @Chrightt
      @Chrightt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're used to melee trades, I would go with either double slash (which true combos if you land initial) or spinning slash (which is fast and decent at close range). I don't think Curved GS has anything too special to offer for PVP though, so if I were to especially choose curved GS, probably because I want to use Bloodhound's Fang for the unique AoW mixup. The rest of the unique AoWs are PVE oriented.

    Coming back to this video, there's something that I think needs mentioning.
    The curved greatswords have a unique guard counter combo when 1-handed with a shield. Guard Counter into Light Attack does a very fast 2-hit combo, which when used with something like the Bloodhound's Fang has great Bloodloss build-up. It can't be overstated how good that is in PvE.

    • @Clockdrive
      @Clockdrive ปีที่แล้ว

      I tested it out, it seems like the follow up light attack after guard counter is just the second R1-R1 combo swing. Regular greatswords do the same thing minus the swaggy spin. Not sure if it has any frame advantages or anything, doesn't seem like it.

  • @arcanapluvia8627
    @arcanapluvia8627 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I doubt anyone will see this, but the Beastman's Cleaver scales abnormally well with Lightning infusion. I get why it was left out for Keen, but for whatever reason (perhaps the lore association of Farum Azula with lightning) it actually beats out the other three standard curved greatswords with Lightning. And yes, it also has use for blocking - you can two-hand it, invest only 17 Str, and guard counter with it!

  • @Bananenbauer123
    @Bananenbauer123 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    One thing I will add is that morgott's cursed sword, because it has innate bleed & arcane scaling, when investing in arcane will have much higher bleed buildup than the bloodhound's fang.
    Also, in pvp the weapon art's aoe explosion can be very nice when fighting multiple opponents. The weapon art also applies additional bleed build up!
    It's quite the beast, however as you mentioned high fp cost and very high stat requirements. In my opinion only worth using if you go 35dex 40-45 arcane.

    Really Good review
    I believe practicle usability should also be considered. Onyx blade is a good weapon if people know how to use it.
    Two things ..
    1. weapon art is a neal down helps in ignoring certain attacks.
    2. Its a AOE attacks.. with gravity excellent for crowd control. Annoyed by those Birds, Rats, Dogs and imps.. give this a try... its a fun time.
    Note : for some reason.. I don't know why but Mediorite katana gets hyper Armour with AoW, whereas onyx blade which is heavier and is a curved great sword does not.. so recommend staking up poise for the weapon to work.

    Bloodhound fang still after all these months is one of the best swords in the game in my opinion. The AoW does crazy damage by itself but then u can buff the hell out of it and make it insane. Still in my top 5 if not too 3 really

    I think a good option for PVE is a cold CGS with Morgott's because there's a way to naturally reset the frost with Morgott's WA. Proc frost and bleed, reset frost, repeat.

    • @sydorovich2532
      @sydorovich2532 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why not going for Bloodflame buffed mainhand Fang instead? Fire damage doesn't reset the frost buildup, only the status itself.

    Nice raw numbers comparison, should give an extra point to magma wyrm's for the puddle the L2 leaves, it gives really good value against bosses that don't/can't move out of it.
    I know there always has to be a "best" but for Bloodhound's to be numerically strongest at every level whilst also having innate bleed and a super versatile L2 makes the rest feel kinda pointless (except for monk's - if you spent the 10 hours farming that, you're definitely going to rep it), but also shines a light on the fact that if I was facing a bleed-immune boss, I probably wouldn't use a curved greatsword _at all._ For non-bleed DEX builds that want a heavier weapon I would still go with great thrusting weps or my personal favourite the Guardian Spear (Phantom Slash on a DEX weapon? OK!).
