i went up to the american for my first try at panning but the place i wanted to go to originally was close because of the king fire. had no luck, but i wasnt prepared but i just got my keene sluice in today so with all this water im hoping to get at least something.

You could have threw out gold nuggets...I know that might not be usual, but since you found more gold than usual there. you should get those shovels with holes in them and check the rocks for gold, if you ever go bo back to that spot

I'm sure I tossed a bunch of gems i just started learning how to identify them I got a few books and kits I want to get good at geology and other minerals besides gold

You don't suck we all got to start sum where I started with a pan and pay dirt from eBay so I can learn how to pan then got my first little gold flakes at the american river :)
Best day that trip was 1.7 grams @ 8:55 end of the day clean out my sluice converts to a clean out sluice so I run my concentrates back trough the sluice

At the American river 5 miles one way at the bear river was like only 2 milesone way you don't need a lic these are public recreational areas limited mining is allowed

yah give it a try takes 10 seconds to classify a 5 gal bucket. works good if you have gold hog mats in your sluice
