  • In today's episode I speak with Dr. Greg Nigh about hydrogen sulfide. We discuss what it is and the roles it plays within the body, as well as the causes of sulfur issues, and why sulfate-reducing bacteria may overgrow. We also discuss some of the general considerations when it comes to what we can do about it.

    This guest gives the best explanation I've ever heard -- coming from someone who's heard a lot.
    Host asked direct, excellent questions too.

    For anyone watching, please know that what he is saying is a VERY SMALL piece. He is right in the fact that sulfur intolerance does absolutely cause a slew of issues! HOWEVER, simply restricting your diet is NOT the cure. I am a practitioner and a lot of information out there is unfortunately given by a lot of people who do not see the bigger picture. A sulfur intolerance is simply yet again another indicator that something is not functioning properly (Sibo, dirty genes, liver pathway detoxification issues, leaky gut, etc), all of which go hand in hand. It is a viscous cycle and the system needs to be calmed before you start the healing process which an be very different from person to person. True healing happens when you make lifestyle changes along with assisting the body. Just choosing to not eat specific food is not healing (unless of course it is a true allergy).

      We couldn’t agree more linn. In Dr. Nigh’s defence he doesn’t advocate for just a restricted diet. He talks extensively about the underlying imbalances that may contribute to a sulfur issue.

    i have been following Stephanie Seneff work for some time now. having first been introduced to her from Dr Mercola. i am blown away by this interview and will be immediately exploring this sulfur ibs/sibo connection much more comprehensively. this interview might have just changed my life very significantly. i was blown away recently with the work of Dr Hawrelak and now i understand why his approach to healing sibo etc., although impressive, did not fully address concerns i had.

    About epson salt bath I also believe that magnesium in large amounts is helping to detox and put the body in homeostasis. Many time when I was taking epson salt bath every day for many weeks continuously, I had realized that constipation and gut issues where coming back as soon as I was stopping to take the epson salt bath. There's really a connection between it but I'm not sure if it's only the sulfite from epson salt. Because the effect on me was the same as taking magnesium citrate (more energy, better digestion, less pain, less stress, etc).

    This is the second video of yours I have watched. My history of many symptoms and years of distress now has a possible reason I can understand. More recently experiencing terrible gut issues. My doctor says nothing about it. SIBO new to me. But seems to nail what is happening now with me. What is your protocol that I can do? I live in another country. And each channel I have watched gives different views on what to do and take. Thank you.

      Hi bonnie. Sorry to hear of your health issues. Unfortunately I can’t recommend a protocol over social media platforms as it needs to be somewhat personalised and factors need to be considered such as whether you’re on any medications. I’d recommend looking in to Dr. Siebecker’s work however - we have a podcast episode with her discussing SIBO and she has a website all about it.

    • @karenstandefer1
      @karenstandefer1 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It isn't B12 with hydroxy. It is the B12 version that is called hydroxocobalamin . Pure Encapsulations brand has lozenges and also capsules. I don't know if you can get that in Germany. but, also, do try the epsom salt baths that he suggests because it bypasses the gut and thus bypasses the need for the bacteria that digest sulfurs, which can be a problem for some people's gut health.

    I have been using the Foodmarble and at my times of highest bloating but methane and hydrogen are almost always low. So I was thinking it might be hydrogen sulfide SIBO bc of my other symptoms (epigastric discomfort, constipation). However, I do currently have h.pylori but according to the stool test it is the non-virile type. But for more than three years now I've had reflux and bloating "out of nowhere". I was also going through menopause and TONS of stress and adrenal issues when it started and I get that stress can shut down the digestive system and lower stomach acid (and h.pylori lowers stomach acid too..) I am currently eating a LOT of raw garlic with yogurt and that is taking the bloating away! I am considering NAC plus spirulina as a detox protocol bc I have had mold exposure in the past..but wondering if taking NAC should be o.k. if by chance it is hydrogen sulfide SIBO? I would think that fact that garlic doesn't seem to be bothering me means it should be o.k. I mean, it does initally make me feel bloated but then for the rest of the day I feel MUCH better. Thank you!

    • @reinadelmar11
      @reinadelmar11 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@glenmonks1 I tried a probiotic called Pylori Fight but don't think it did much. It's l reuterii probiotic. I am now switching to one with lactobacillus strains and bifido something or other that was recommended and maybe at some point soil based probiotics. It has also been suggested to me that rather than taking probiotics I should work on the terrain by using SunFiber (hydrolized guar gum) but haven't tried that yet. I've been eating broccoli sprouts daily and that seems to help. My stomach always feels better when I increase stomach acid by drinking AVC or similar but read that this can cause the h.pylori to dig in deeper (kind of go into hiding and do more damage in the process). I have Oregon Grape Root tincture and need to try it. Berberine is supposed to help as is goldenseal. Honestly this is the hardest health "puzzle" I've ever had to solve and it is really frustrating and has been seriously impacting my q.o.l. for three years now. Praying that it resolves soon. Good luck to you too if you are dealing with this.

    Please answer: Is hydrogen good or bad? I have hydrogen dominant SIBO.
    If this is bad, why are suppliers selling molecular hydrogen?

    • @ourhealthpath
      @ourhealthpath  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there! It’s highly contextual - things may be good or bad depending on how much there is, and where it is, and the reason it’s there. SIBO is bad as we shouldn’t have that amount of bacteria in the small intestine (the hydrogen is just a way to test for this).

    Really having trouble getting my mind around this. I did 2 tablespoons of epsom salt in a footbath and just managed to stir up some kind of dumping cycle. Oxalate? A mean sulfur metabolite? I don't know, but it was bad & lasted about 24 hours. A week later, i tried it with 1 tablespoon. Same effect for a few hours less duration. When i eat meat, its horrifying. I go narcaleptic like going under anesthesia for 5 hours & then my whole body hurts, mobility is crippled for about a week. Thats with beef. Beef liver & chicken liver have the same effect. 1/4 cup is about 2-3 hours narcalepsy & 18 to 36 hours excruciating pain. So far, dark meat chicken thigh is the only protein I've been able to eat with no bad effects. Trying kidney next week. I am out of money. Lost my job in november, and have no idea how to proceed to heal mysel.

I haven't been able to find much information about it, but it was the 1st clue that sulfur is a problem. I can agree upon the theory that Sibo has an underlying cause, but what does't make sense to me is to say that sulfate reducing bacteria actually help you get the sulfate and that that is the adaptive mechanism.
