Mr Gizmo, I checked this video of yours as I am trying to find some way of easily pulling the gasket back from the metal edge of the drum to clean that out.... I am so glad I read through all the comments before adding mine. One person mentioned water and the issues that can cause - and of course if you live in the south then - HUMIDITY ! I was going to say "please tell me you just bought this house...." LOL. So it seems this has built up over time. We live in a coastal rain-forest so humidity+ and are on a well with very hard water. Wiping the glass each time, wiping down the gasket every other wash, leaving the door open, no mould and only the occasional gathering of fluff, hair, stuff(mud?). Not an angel, just keeping on top of looking after business. I would like to suggest a couple of things to really get after that mould. Fantastic Spray comes in a couple of formulations and will not damage the gasket. I always use the original one, and you clearly need to remove that *EWW*** mould. Spray it liberally on the mould and leave for 3-4 minutes. Put some dish-soap on a nylon scrubbie (one that looks like it is a ball of knitting) then go at it and scrub it off. There is no way you will damage the gasket and you will be able to get it off. If that does not do it then I hear Spray-9 is very good. Good Luck ! 😇
I use washing soda (it’s a natural bleach) and Borax, which kills mold to scrub gasket, then run a hot cycle with Borax only. The washing soda is best diluted with warm or hot water first. I checked out the oven cleaning video..and wow! Thanks Mr Gizmo, I sort of knew about this to clean, but I didn’t leave the baking soda mush on that long. I’m going to follow what you did next time. We are so brainwashed into thinking we need chemicals, especially older generations..I especially dislike air fresheners. I say get some pine needles or your somewhat spent bouquet of flowers; toss in a pot of water, bring to boil, then put on low and set a timer. There you go-nice smell. No cancer causing junk.
I’m the same, I do not use nor buy air fresheners. It’s just chemicals released into the air your breathing. So dumb. I do what you said, cinnamon sticks in water on the stove, certain flower pedals in warm water on the stove too..
Last night actually, I watched your video before cleaning my washer..the one thing your not touching on is; the rounded edge of the drum that’s right next to the gasket…if you take a wet cloth, put it over your pointer finger and run your rag-finger under that drum edge, while turning the drum, omg..that was dirtier than the rubber ring! I used a toothbrush at first, but it didn’t pick up the gooey scum like a rag did. It took so many times to clean it, I was grossed out lol
Our LG is 8+\- yrs. I try to leave the door open. Every wk or so I use a Lysol wipe on the door (no abrasive cleaners) - or even after a load of new dark towels or hoodies. Take another wipe and clean the folds of the door seal, and finally open the little door at the front and drain the overflow and clean the trap that looks like a gas cap. All good!
do you know whats causing plastic rubber particles in my washer machine? I heard its cause of dirt and friction? DO i just avoid this by just rinsing it ?
@Mr. Gizmo : Be aware that using vinegar or any acidic solution (by itself) regularly breaks down metal and causes rust and eventual damage in the long term. Using baking soda does help to dilute any acidic solution.
Best to do the following: after every wash run, wipe down the door and inside seal. Once laundry is completed for the day/week, etc... wipe down door, rubber seal and leave door open. I do this all the time-no mold. I also pull out the detergent/fabric softner dispenser and leave it in the drum between wash periods. Mold/mildew can get up in those places as well. Once a month or so, clean out the detergent/fabric softner dispenser and run a cleaning cycle with white vinegar or those cleaning tablets. Makes a huge difference.
On any front load clothes washing machine you need to leave the door open after you run a load to help it dry out. Most of the time we do a quick wipe down of the water on the inside of the door and the seal. We have yet to have any issues with any growth.
Just buy a new gasket and flush it all out manually as the inside would be accessible. That is just surface cleaning, the inner guts could be worse. Top load vents better, venting out moisture is key. Keep your drains clear and filters clean. Always clean cycle your machine as well
Is it possible to completely remove the seal and clean then put it back on ? I have a ton of dog hair and it’s just everywhere and I want to really spray the seal all the way clean
100% In fact, you can just replace the seal all together which in his case would've been a lot less work than concocting all of these solutions and trying to scrub the daylights out of it.
I watched a appliance repair video and they use a product called pool shock. It’s chlorine. I also read you can use two cups of bleach in the detergent tray and run an empty hot water cycle. I’m currently doing this now.
@@MrGizmo211 thank you - I JUST finished watching your 2 year update review. I was like "Noooo, his machine has changed!" haha. Was your machine impacted by the Dec 2022 recall? Idk why I'm so nervous...but making this big ticket purchase is really stressing me (on the research side). Thank you for your help!
The problem is not the exposed part of the gasket. The problem is the gunk building up between the gasket and the drum. The gunk in ours was built up to an extent that it was as if you put your finger in a jar of peanut butter and scooped out a finger(s) full. There is no way to access behind the gaske to clean it properly without removing it. "Cleaners" will not help. I ended up with a service call to have the gasket replaced. The service tech cleaned out the drum behind the gasket. This is a major manufacturing defect. Unfortunately, this video does not satisfactorily address the issue.
You are cute and the fact that you know how to really clean a washing machine makes you hot. lol Thanks I will definitely clean my stinky front loader now.
Probably a good idea not to let it get this dirty before you decide to clean. As you can see, this guy is struggling. Cleaning once every 3 months will keep it squeaky clean!
I tried that. Once you remove the seal you open up a whole new can of worms. You can see all the nasty scum inside the outer drum. That's the greatest source of the nasty smell. If you remove the stainless inner drum there is also a nest of sludge and skin flakes in and around the back side where the shaft is. Big job!...but it smells so fresh now 6 hours later.
Because it’s a pain in the neck to re-fit. I reserve that for the day I put on a new seal! Last time, I think I had to lie the machine on its back to fit the bee seal. Made it easier, not much but a bit!
Even with leaving the door open, my machine can get a weird smell and I have to drain out the water from the filter and clean the filter once a month and give it a light spritz with 50/50 water vinegar solution.
We leave the door open after using it for at least 24 hours. I can't believe how dirty this washing machine is! We have had our front loading washing machine for at least 8 years and never has it shown and growth on it.
@Natural Butterfly You're probably right. :) I have this mold problem despite leaving the door open, and I was feeling bad about it and truly looking for help, and was probably too sensitive.
@Rose Schulze we leave ours open ALWAYS and ours is nasty. The comment did feel like a stab, I am not sensitive about mine being gross, just grossed out lol it looks clean from the outside, but when I pull that lip back I think ewwww
I use vinegar in my wash every time we wash. It is great to remove smells from clothes and a great fabric softener. I still have this gunky build-up, especially on the bottom of the rim and wherever water gets trapped. How big of a job is replacing the seal? We also run washing machine cleaner once a month or so, still gross!
Man that seal is pretty bad. I have 2 years of usage and only a little black along the bottom part of the gasket. This looks like 5 years of no cleaning
15 min is definitely not enough time to dissolve and remove the mould. Usually it should be left overnight and then repeat another method the next day would have been better.
@@AstralConnections. It most certainly isn't. Other than 'tribal' tattoos in indigenous people, they are an affront to those tattooed by the Nazis in concentration camps.
I'M going to try this today. Thanks 😊

The other side of the drum is really dirty. It is almost impossible to wash that. I wish
YES !!
@mrgizmo211 So, does the baking soda go directly into the main part of the machine or just in the dispenser when you run it though the hot cycle?

Thank you! Will do!
You did not show the door seal at the end, so is it is safe to assume the mould was still on the seal.
EXACTLY !!!!!
He did show it and the result was not effective
This was my thought lol
