It's like watching and listening to a 9 minute divine miracle of absolute perfection. Stuff like this does not happen anymore. We lived in a golden age.
I can’t stop with this! The best of all their live performances of the magic SUite Judy Blue Eyes. The looks they give each other, Nash hopping all around, Crosby still as stone, til he starts the hand clap at the dizzying end. And well my goodness, Mr. Stills...the vocals lead, free but contained, and the smoke coming from the frets in the bridge. And I don’t care who was a tool to whom. We’re all pretty broken, and walking wounded, and a kind and loving Universe brought these voices together, and wrapped it up like a gift, and gave it to all of us. We are all so deeply flawed; David Crosby offers perhaps the most perfect middle-voice harmony in the history of recorded bands. I thank them all. This just hits the spot, for these perilous times. I’m 63. WE HAD THE BEST MUSIC.
Peggy Deffley Wow! " . . . A kind and loving Universe brought these voices together, and wrapped it up like a gift, and gave it to all of us." That's about the most eloquent comment and description of anything I've ever seen anywhere. I wish they could see this. It's the sort of response real musicians live to hear, and hope to inspire with every performance.
Stills the guitar man. Jammed with jimi and slowhand. Nash the English man, singing the high notes in the stratosphere. And Crosby, standing like a stone, the rock in the center with his harmonies. Was lucky to see them 6 times through the years, always a joy to hear....
I'm 74 and can't really sing any more but I still have their original albums.....brings back so many bittersweet memories of my youth. We'll never see this golden age of great music, hope and great dreams ever again
As one person said, we absolutely lived in a golden age of music! The harmony of CSN (&Y) sooves the soul. I'm 68 now and so thankful to be born at the right time. For the GREATEST MUSIC EVER! Thank God for these guys, and yes, David may you rest in peace. You're in one hell of a rock n roll band now in heaven.
Please remember, this trio did it all with no synthesizers, voice auto-tune, electronic enhancements. This is just music in its purest form. If you can, purchase their self-titled first album, Crosby, Stills & Nash and travel back in time. Or, better yet, if you have just discovered them, buy it and prepare to be changed forever.
If all Stephen had ever written and sung was this one song, he would have still deserved to be in the Hall of Fame. Epic in every way - songwriting, composition, voicing, harmony, performance. A song for the ages.
Yeah but he didn't though did he? For those who came in late, check out Carry On, 4+20, Love the One You're With and Southern Cross for songs. Steve is a legend - always will be.
Well, I guess...Somehow I am Lucky...Cause I was Blessed to see CSN at Woodstock. I was 16 and just about 4 months shy of joining the Army and going to Vietnam. They saved my life several of times...as I would listen to their music in my head all through my first tour. Suite Judy Blue Eyes was the one I loved the most. If I could stand before Steve Stills today, I would give Him the medels I won in VN. He saved me...Not good luck.
Bless you, sir, and thank you for sharing that amazing story. 58,000+ of your brothers never made it home. I saw them in 1990 in a small park in Manchester, NH when I was only a few years older than you were then.

Summer 1970. Imagine a whole darkened Montreal Forum packed with excited little ones, closing in on around eleven at night, right after the first few bars of this one, suddenly, all 20,000 of us dead quiet, such silence, literally you could hear the ol' adage, hear a pin drop beside you ... what unbelievable reverence from that stoned youthful lot: not a whistle, not a shout, not a peep, nothing, like you're the only one in the audience. Niel Young was there too: four guitars, four voices, not to happen again. When they finished, we would not let them go. The Forum turned on their lights. But not for us, no one left, we stood and applauded and applauded, until they had to come back on stage and continue with more. David Crosby, gone forever, but in our hearts, he will live on and on.
I'm 72 years old. This one will never fade. It rises into the stratosphere as other songs fade into the mists of time. I feel so lucky and grateful continuing to pass through this amazing era, from Chuck Berry, The Everly Brothers, and Elvis onward.
Judy Blue Eyes is our generation's Strauss tone poem. Steven Stills does things on the guitar that haven't been invented yet and have yet to be discovered. We are all lucky to be alive to bear witness to such a performance.
Clifford Young, I just learned what a Strauss tone poem is(thanks to you). Very interesting. Thanks. You are so right about Stills performance in this gem of a song. Peerless.
Suite: Judy Blue Eyes - if this is not the best song ever written, then it has to be in the top 10! I have loved it since it was released, and never tire of it!
This song is one of the, if not THE, greatest works of art of that era. Damned! The way it is written, the passages, the differing tunes, all put together to create a masterpiece which will endure all time.
They started in 1968 as Crosby, Stills & Nash, formed from former members of three prominent 1960s groups: The Byrds (David Crosby), Buffalo Springfield (Stephen Stills) and The Hollies (Graham Nash). 3:33 Suite: Judy Blue Eyes. The title is a play on words. "Suite" is a reference to a part of a classical composition, but it can also be interpreted as "sweet." The full-length version of the song can be considered a suite, with lots of musical changes. Source: Songfacts
I will forever love them. Fly free now, Croz.....This music will live on forever. still, I am so sad. Each time we lose someone like this from this golden era of pure, creative, organic music, it's like losing a piece of one's youth.
@@LeadFrog All true - but one of the things that gave the CSN sound its very distinct edge and ability to reach special heights of expressiveness is Graham Nash's edgy clear tenor. They truly were the sum of their parts - each brought a special element to the mix and each brought a uniquely different song-writing style/voice as well.
I am 52. My grandma taught me to harmonize to bluegrass music. These men are as important to music theory as The 3 Tenors and Motzart. Helplessly Hoping is a tribute to Musical alliteration
I was at Woodstock that magical night (early morning) when CSN stepped on the stage, their first gig as they said. They nailed that performance also. At 21 I was at the right place at the right time when all the stars converged. A memory to last a lifetime. And yes, Stills is terribly underrated.

@@neilpepper7801 Neil: Do not leave off to Nash and Crosby, out of the harmonies in which they are great (especially in the Suite Judy) . These two guys are enthusiastic, and keep the line in extraordinary vocals .Graham and David are terrific.
They defined our generation. This video here is a Treasure. I've seen CSN in concert many times. Thank you for posting this. You made an old hippy chick feeling Groovy.
I am so glad this video exists. The performance is incredible. They were dialed in that night. Stephen Stills guitar playing is so incredible. if there is such a thing as a perfect song, this is it.
Brilliant version. Each a huge talent on their own, bring them together and it's astounding and just as mind blowing decades later. Crosby, the glue holding it together. RIP Croz. ♥️
Absolutely the most beautiful group ever. I saw them at the Concord Pavillion 15 years after this song was first released. A very young girl was sitting next to my wife and I. The girl had tears in her eyes when this song was played. I remember thinking that she was a baby when the song first came out, and wondered why she was so emotional. Then I realized that the passing years had nothing to do with the emotion. Beauty is timeless.
Oh, you were so lucky to see them at that small outdoor forum. In 1996 I had recently moved to the Bay Area, a couple miles from Concord, when I read to my amazement that Bob Dylan and Van Morrison would be teaming up for a joint concert there. Of course I was in the audience. It was a beautiful summer California night. I had dreamed of living in California while growing up in Ontario, walking to school when it was 20 below zero and humming Brian Wilson songs in my head. It took a while but my dream came true. And at this tiny venue, I got to hear two of my favorite artists. Van was a bit grumpy that night, but Dylan rocked the place to its foundations. And I’m sure CSN were just as legendary.
Maybe Lindsay Buckingham, another underrated guitarist. AND AND Stevie Winwood. =. Heck Can’t find my way home. Hauntingly beautiful and magnificent. IMO
I wish I could keep pressing "like" till I've liked this ten thousand times.

I’m in my 20s and this is just one of the best songs ever!
Absolutely great that you can appreciate a song and csny. Welcome to our world. The 70s was a great time. Loved college the music 🎶 the times etc.
Amazing! Thank you for all the songs, all the memories... Rest in Peace David Crosby
It's hard to believe that there was once so much love in the world. 😢
Agreed
I’m 72 now, but I remember that when I was in high school I felt exactly this way about a girl I knew. Thank you CSN.
Nice story . Stills put it into words.
Stills is one of the all time greats. Not to take anything away from David Crosby or Graham Nash who complete one of the best harmonies in rock music.
ALL ARE FANTASTIC!
Stills and two transients he found shopping at the salvation army, sound really good, lol! (nothing wrong with shopping at the salvation army...)
And he wrote it!
They defined our generation. This video here is a Treasure. I've seen CSN in concert many times. Thank you for posting this. You made an old hippy chick feeling Groovy.
Stephen Stills on an acoustic guitar is a site to behold!!

Still gives me tingles after all these decades.
Johnny Botts eargasm at its best.!!
It was somehow almost like he was flying! I mean wow!
I was fortunate enough to have seen them Live Twice. Stephen Still is so under rated.
God, I never tire of hearing this song. Takes me back to a time when life was simpler.
Best, most soulful performance of Suite Judy Blue eyes I’ve heard. Guitar solo is amazing!
He and Joni Mitchell. Absolute masters of tunings.
You are so right! I think I have watched it 100 times!
Trying to imitate Steven Stills guitar solo is virtually impossible!!
At least for me!! LOL
A masterpiece. RIP Crosby.
An example of magic that can be performed by 3 voices and a guitar.
Never get tired hearing this masterpiece.
Seen can in New. Brunswick nj fantastic show sang along
Wiped a tear
1000000 STARS
Stephen Stills is a genius.
Nash is a master at vocals.
Crosby: you did all quietly. You will be missed.
Pretty sure this is a classic. We'll never see their like again. Such beautiful harmonization.
Born in 74. Still Jamming!! GREAT MUSIC NEVER DIES....
Back when talent ment something, no flashing lights, no half naked girls, just good music....
Could of done with some half naked ladies though

This old hippie girl loved this music way back then, and I love it now.
Debbie Foster ☮️❤️

Steven Stills. That's all I wanted to say.
We are just in a different time…and it will never be the same!! Pure genius right here!!
Yup
I am so glad this video exists. The performance is incredible. They were dialed in that night. Stephen Stills guitar playing is so incredible. if there is such a thing as a perfect song, this is it.
+robbie p I got to get my life back. Watching this is all I do. Not sure if I ever seen or heard anything like this. Ever.
When I am feeling down I just watch Steven Stills go off on his guitar in this solo.

"Southern Cross" also from this concert is awesome too.
Gerardo Erak Soutern Cross never got the attention it so richly deserves.
I have no words except two. Pure genius.
That's what I'd say as well.
Two words: Super good.
I have only one. word... timeless.
Two words: Perfect Harmony!
pretty damn good
Brilliant version. Each a huge talent on their own, bring them together and it's astounding and just as mind blowing decades later. Crosby, the glue holding it together. RIP Croz. ♥️
Suite Judy Blue Eyes... a true masterpiece sung by legends. Incredible and tireless. RIP David Crosby!
My neighbors hate this video. I can't help singing along with the end. What a great song. and now...Southern Cross.
You need to move.
Wow, that solo is phenomenal to this day of music.
Harmonious performance, top tier.
Yes indeed !! Reminds me of Willie Nelson!!(Not sure why!!)
Beauty is timeless.
nice post but forget "most" .. next time try "favourite" and ignore "absolutely". free lessons on my non-existent website.
"How can you catch the sparrow?" Greatest lyric of all time.
.
The sparrow was Judy Collins, wasn’t it?
@@rozgirljoyful9362 Yes.
Music will always bring us together
They were something to behold! A game changer for a lot of us.
Now -this is really great. Beautiful harmonies. I think it shows how amazing Steven Still is. He was the glue that made them so really good.
Unbelievable!! Always a favorite!! Thank God we have footage of the 3 together. RIP David.
I love watching Stills play guitar. There is nobody quite like him.
Maybe Lindsay Buckingham, another underrated guitarist. AND AND Stevie Winwood. =. Heck Can’t find my way home. Hauntingly beautiful and magnificent. IMO
