Very true, the work started with Ole who understood the roots of the club lie in it's youth system, I would even go as far as say if not for the work started by Ole, there is a good chance Ten Hag would not be in a job today as it was the youth that Ole signed that won him the FA Cup.

The goals are a very good gauge actually. Any striker that scores 30 goals or more in u-18 season is a special talent. Rashy, Rossi, Greenwood all did it

@@directorme6669he dipped in form as went up the age groups. When played against more experienced defenders he didn't live up. Its very common a striker looks better when younger because defenders are not as good at a young age
This boy is different because he has the build to play professionally at the top level. He's an absolute unit at 16, taller than the 18 year olds he's playing with so imaging what he'll end up as when he hits 21
Exactly. You’re right. If you watch the kid play he looks like a man playing with U14s. That sort of advantage doesn’t translate when playing against others whose size is also over 6ft. Doesn’t mean he can’t end up really good in adult football and I’d be happy if we poach him, but when part of the current advantage is size then it’s worth being cautious. The next step is always huge.

Charlie McNeil scored 500 goals at youth level and 24 goals in 21 games u18....he's just been released
if you're not good enough, you're not good enough... doesn't matter how many goals you've scored at YOUTH level
The quality strikers all get at least 30 goals in an u-18 season. I also don't think Charlie ever scored 10 goals in one match against any side
Thing is, he’s so big that he’s probably easily able to physically dominate at u18 so I’m not particularly blown away by the numbers. Kids his size and age wouldn’t be in the u18 at his size if he was at our club. We’d have bumped him up an age group already. I am excited, but let’s see him play against players of a similar size before we praise him for dunking on players half his size.
Let's hope we can bring him in. He has visited Carrington but has also visited Bayern, Newcastle, and two French sides.

If's Obi-Martin is looking for first team game time, why would he go from one top PL club to another. Wouldn't he ex go to Dortmund ? Going to a big club one step down surely gives a better chance of first team opportunities than a sidestep from Arsenal to United. Yes, I know Arsenal have been better lately than United, but imo it's still a sidestep and if he can't get into Arsenals first team, why would he be good enough for United's.

I'm reading that he relies on his size at the under 18 level and that he doesn't have great technical ability. We also nicked McNeil from City who was scoring for fun, but look at what happened to him.
I was wondering the same thing. A big player can shine at that level and then not succeed in the end. Where as a smaller player uses there skill and then can get stronger as the grow.

Not to piss on your fire, but dealing in just cold facts, we’ve signed low scoring Zirkzee (release clause & big agent fee) and Yoro (good coup & exciting kid), while Varane, Greenwood, and Martial have left. That’s it. Yet so many are anking themselves into a frenzy.
You talk about moving on all the right people etc etc but who’s been moved on apart from the two leaving at the end of their contracts? Kambwala (£10m), VdB (given away) and wasn’t around anyway and Greenwood (£100m footballer when he was at his peak for £25m - right to bin but not exactly tricky and hasn’t played at Utd for years). McTominay, Maguire, Lindelof, Eriksen, Casemiro, AWB etc etc are all still there and require more ruthlessness and selling skills. Antony will also still be stinking the place out. Sancho the virus has been allowed back to undermine ETH further, alongside fellow waster Rashford.
I’ll obviously reassess at the end of the window as expect more things to change, and I like the age profile of the two buys, but as of today let’s calm down a little bit about the net of what’s actually happened. Even targets like De Ligt & Ugarte are players their clubs are actively trying to move on.

But players who are still in the U-23a at age 21, 22, 23 are rarely good enough to make it into a top league.
a caution with this 16 year old, at 6'2" he has developed early so he has had an advantage over most of the other kids. He could plateau off when all his opponents are adults and or as big so he may not achieve all the hype/expectations. It does happen???

My concern would be that his physicality is a large reason why he is scoring so freely and once his contemporaries catch up in terms of becoming men rather than kids he doesn’t score quite so freely. Hopefully he signs and is the truth.
As an Arsenal fan with my head screwed on you speak sense. His physicality has been a big advantage for him. Lots of players tear it up in the U18s so he’s still a maybe talent. Loads of kids are moving about these days so can’t be mad about it. Hope he does well.

Ole played a load of kids but that was playing youth for the sake of youth. How many of them were actually any good, and did they deserve first team football? Hardly any.
I think INEOS are properly scouting talent and potential, not just 'giving kids a chance'.
It is baffling that Arsenal seem obsessed with a youth project, and yet will let one of their best young kids leave to a rival. I acknowledge that Arsenal are doing well (although don't win anything), but they get some big decisions wrong when it comes to playing staff.
Ethan Nwaneri is the next star we are focused on, players focused on money can do one - only interested in players where football is paramount
