My 602 was the same Mark, a totally random pinhole in an otherwise fine pushrod tube. I installed a “temporary” spare engine as it seemed a quicker option than ordering and repairing the tube. It’s still in the car!! and although I got the replacement tube, it is still rolling round my bench somewhere!

yep it was a real pain Conor, I am away at the moment so it is going to have to wait a bit

These people! Retiring? Dying? How dare they? I would have thought that hand reaming would work well enough. (JB Weld would patch up that holed pushrod tube. It is remarkable stuff)... 👍

Sadly Bill the numbers of people I knew / used locally have disappeared at an astonishing rate recently and have not been replaced b y anyone younger so options are drying up. I could use a chemical " bandage" but as I said in the video, if it fails the engine is toast before you probably noticed.

A valve seat cutter should not be hard to find, a pity I do not live closer as I have both the grinder type, and the cutter type, but what is the problem with changing the pushrod tubes? Are they difficult to remove without damaging? Chris B.

I am checking to see if anyone I know has a decent cutter but no luck so far. You have to destroy the tubes Chris to get them out as they are swaged into the head when assembled. It is a messy job, there is another video in the playlist about swapping them.

@@oldnutsgarage I wondered why you did not just change the pushrod tubes, I wonder why, for a vehicle usually so easy to repair, they chose to assemble these in such a user unfriendly way, and unless you live near a machine shop that can do the job a costly postal problem. Good luck with this one! Chris B.

I will be changing the pushrod tubes on one head and the valve guides on the other as I want both heads in useable condition going forward. It is possible to do the tubes at home, see my earlier video, but still not a nice job and it should be done with a special tool to roll the tube into the head which I did have at one time many moons ago, but can no longer find he hoh.

Hello ON. This is the cutter you need, a very easy job and without any special machinery. th-cam.com/video/sYdFRq0gJ-8/w-d-xo.html Chris B.

Hi there, it's dee on My new channel, where I've uploaded two short videos so far, and more to come. I have done valve guides before a few times. Now at the risk of divorce, I put the head in the oven at max temp, then get out with a large plume of smelly oil fumes!, tap out the valve guides, then get Your new ones out of the freezer and they will easily tap back in. I've never really had a problem with valves lining up again, just a heavy valve lap using the coarse end of of the chemico tin then fine end and all's good. I do have a set of seat grinding stones at the correct angles for a 2CV if You really get stuck, but I cut the stones Myself so I can't guarantee them to be exact. Best Wishes Jahmahrah PS don't forget to subscribe ; - )

Hi Jahmahrah, just subscribed, good luck with the channel! I have used the same method before too and I have also used a puller but still previously had them checked / light cut just to be sure. Also seen them where the guides needed reaming as they narrowed when fitted. As usual an element of luck is needed, I will have to see how it goes.
