Wow what a palaver that has turned out to be, from a simple job to an over hall , But at least you found it now sooner than later which could have been more catastrophic, Cheers! 😎👍👌😉
These jobs always end up like this Will. You have done some great preventative work. Imagine the cost/time if it had failed under load. I'll be checking mine now! Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
Thats looks like a bit of a faff some handy tips here thanks for that will. I'm doing a bit of painting myself soon & will definitely be using cling film on bits I don't want to put tape on. Cheers mate
Unlucky Will just your luck at least you have the skills to fix it yourself I remember not long ago The narrowboat chefs boat having the engine removed to fix a similar problem good luck I hope it all goes well for you
Yeah I remember watching that one. Seems to be a common fault with this engine. I'm looking forward to part 3 to see if he fixes it. Oh that's me oh no i'm doing the work...
Wish I was there to give you a hand Will. That stud that goes in the front cover thats sloppy in the hole, I think ??? should have a thread on both ends and thread into the block. Blooming heck, it's a good time to have somebody around, even if they can only make a cuppa. You're going to need some parts, so hopefully you can look at a manual to confirm whats needed. Good luck, take care.
When I was working in the motorbike workshop I could share ideas and problems. It's similar on the tube. I can show you guys so hopefully prevent other people having the same problems. I'm just back from Halfords and starting work again. Cheers
Hiya will oh dear mate,if it doesn’t rain 🌧 it pours, good luck on that one will, the job was coming along fine up to that point mate. Take care John.🎥👌👍
@@NarrowboatWill I've put Red Oxide on and then I will use a "Bilge" paint, blue, see how that goes, to be honest, I was surprised how dry the compartment ended up, used some nappies, a tip I was given by another boater.
Might have been quicker to take the engine out and do it all. Be very careful using degreaser in confine spaces, seen to many videos of vapor building up and one little spark blowing the whole place to bits. Just read the ingredient list on the can, very combustible stuff they put in those cans.
Bloody hell Will you are frightening me now. Due to have a Beta 38 fitted to a new boat being built. Am I going to spend half my life in the engine room?
That is a design fault. I've heard other people having the same problem. The bracket is so over engineered. It's way to heavy for those piddly bolts. I would check to see if they've improved it. Good luck.
If I get this wrong then it's engine out and strip. Weeks in a marina. Then finding a good mechanic with skills to drill out. Ahhh. I'm still doing it today. Thanks for your support.

Yeah that's true. It's been coming loose since I've owned the boat. I can see why now. I get one chance at this. Wish me luck.
Looking good Will!!!!
I hope so I haven't painted it yet. Another trip to Halfords today. Thanks
Fresh paint always makes things look nice 😊😊 good luck with the bolts 👍👍
I love fresh paint on an engine. Now I've got to decrease the engine bay again Steve. Grrr

Yeah I know. No wonder it kept coming loose. It's so heavy and over engineered the bolts just can't handle it.

No worries mate good luck with your work.

I know it was going great and I was looking forward to spraying the engine. I have to degrease it all again now. Never ending John.
It seems like a lot as of late but you are doing ketch up work. Keep at it you are bringing up to good nic. No you can't leave it. Cheers
Oh I agree. I won't leave it till it's finished. It just seems to be one job after another. Thanks for commenting.
@@NarrowboatWill ya but you are just caching up .and later you will be cruising with confidence. Not just blind hope.
Halfway into painting mine at the moment, does it end !!
Oooh nice. Are you using the same paint?

At least you've found it before it got really serious. Hang in there mate. Sure you'll sort it.
I hope so. I'm doing it tomorrow. Thanks for the support.
Can of worms, there's no such thing as a five minute job our kid 😉
Hope you get it all sorted Will.
I just want to tidy the engine bay up. Why is it so hard to do one job on a boat? Lol

Yeah that carb cleaner we used to start bikes with it. Serious combustible stuff but I had all the doors open and I did survive lol.
I’m worried now, I’ve got a Beta 38 but not your tools or skill base.
Just take the bolts out and get some lock thread fluid. £4 Halfords and new spring washes and put them back and tighten up. Hope that helps.

It looks to me that some numpty has been working on your engine previously, wrong sized bolts and over threading etc. a lot of work to correct it all.
