As a Do It Yourselfer myself I so appreciate the big job you undertook to paint your boat. Of course, only looking at it on camera, but it looks like you ladiies did an fabulous job. Kudos to you! And, remember you know every inch of that paint job....few others will know, or see any blemishes you might be aware of. Congratulations on how beautiful your boat looks now.
A good paint job. When you do things yourself you know every little mistake/blemish you make but everyone else just sees the final result. Try not to point out your little mistakes to everyone and enjoy the perfect bits. You both made the job look easy. Looking forward to see how you adorn the the boat with striping etc. Well done.
Once you do the top coat, you can also sand it with a 3200 grit sand paper followed by buffing it out for a mirror finish to blind your foes... I mean, fellow boaters with. The sagging is because of putting it on too thick. If you thin the paint, you can put on more, thinner coats that dry faster. A little more effort but you get a much better finish. With the right prep work, the right techniques and enough patience, you can get airbrush level results with a roller or a sponge.
Hi there you two, excellent job by both of you great delegation of duties and Alice 🐈 would say purrrrrrrrfect. If you have never painted a boat before it looks very professional, can’t wait till part two and the new name! Kindest regards Martin 🍷🍷
I like to think I am a practical type of guy and can turn my hand to most things. You ladies are just brilliant in your ability to apply your talents in such a positive way it would put most DIY'ers to shame. Sadly, the one thing that gives me a great deal of satisfaction is glossing doors and the finish must be perfect as I am my own worst critic, it would seem that you ladies are very much the same. Thinning paint will dull the high gloss, but the finish will be much kinder on the eyes with less shine. The boat is looking really good and take pride in what you have achieved. Well done to you both and keep up the good work.
I'm afraid you are right and I do love a spotless finish. However, on this my first attempt I did learn a lot. I hope to get better for the stern area which is still incomplete.
Brilliant job, I have to say it's not as easy as it looks to get a good finish, there will always be a few spots that you notice but no one else will even spot them. I have just completed painting a stripe on my boat that the previous owner had done himself and left most the brush in it, it took days of hard work to sand, undercoat and top coat but we'll worth it, so hats off to you both for tackling a boat that size x
Your doing a great job. I've never repainted a boat, but I have restored several antique cars. Your never gonna get a super smooth finish unless you spray it. But in your case. You'll get a much thinker coat by rolling it. It looks great. I live in the states and I fascinated by your canals. So by watching all kinds of videos somewhere I remember that if you change a boats name, you need to take it out of the water or it's bad luck.
What a big job and you took it on in a measured way. Very well done. Soon you will get over the "oh for that little spot"....and all you will see is what we see, a good job.

I'm more optimistic about having a go now I've seen your vlog.I'm looking forward to the next video.
Lovely, when you lay off use a wet brush maybe a bigger one. I normally lay off upwards also when rolling on be quicker rolling sideways as well as up and down. When sanding make sure to keep changing paper. Apart from that girls your doing a good job. Also put a bit of white spirit in the last coat, also never paint from the tin use a paint kettle.
Hi there, I am repainting the roof of my boat and wondered if you remember which grade of abrasive you used in the circular sanders. The finest i can find in DIY stores is 180, which may be a bit coarse for preparing the final coat. Thanks.
I bought a mixed box of grains from amazon. It ranged from 80 grit to 2000 grit. I think we used 320 before applying the top coat and also ran the sander at a slower speed.
Really nice paint job :o) Is there a reason why you don´t use more dedicated marine paint - maybe 2-component paint. I have a bit the feeling it is a never-ending job painting these narrow boats. I'm a happy "plastic" boat owner from Denmark, and i am a big fan of your vlogs - together with your competitor - cruising the cut. Enjoy the coming summer
Some fancy traditional (or not so traditional if you prefer) boat art on the sides of the boat and you will have something that will turn heads wherever you go.
Girls let me tell you, you are doing a wonderful job, I know how hard it is, a paint my boat myself, for the small runs the best is a razor blade, just scraping the surface and after sanding, and if you like a show finish, go over with a 2500 wet sand paper and polish after, it take small imperfections out. You can recoat without sanding but you need to check the time for your paint, also you can add some thinner for applying easier. Good luck is looking amazing.
@@TheNarrowboatExperience you need to bend it slightly, and go with the flow when the paint is dry. Over the lamp and take the excess, very easy to do, very difficult to explain on a text 🤣.
Great job girls, remember Rembrandt must have had issues with his first painting. Just a little tip if you would allow me, it sounds like Kath is pressing too hard with the sander, just let the weight of the sander do the work and a better sanded finish will result. Keep up the good work 😁👏. Kath, Annamarie, Munchkins and Alice, the first letters would make a great name for the boat KAMA, just a thought.
Great job girls! Very thorough and most necessarily rigorous. Well done! Assiduous (Artists touch) and meticulous! Impressive ... I could go on but I think you get my drift ;-) Now a question about your choice of paint for the final-coat: Did you source and use what is known as "coach-paint" ? which professes to not leave brush-strokes. In 1973 my wife and I hand-painted our "prize" Ford Anglia a pale-blue (much to the horror of our friends.) It was recommended to us that we use Coach-paint, which apparently, and not suprizingly, was used to paint coaches (and no doubt train-carriages and buses and the like) back in the day b4 the advent of the concept of "spray-painting." Anecdote: We also put two large "transfers" on each of the forward-doors. A Micky-mouse on the driver's side and a Mini-mouse on the passenger side (my wife, Felicity didn't drive)! Well, despite numerous jibes and sneers, we loved her to bits lol ;-)
It looks amazing, I’m really looking forward to seeing the finished boat. Are you going to try the sign writing? I can’t wait to see what you decide to name her, or is she a he? Well done for getting stuck in. There seems to be no challenge that you two aren’t afraid to tackle head on. I’m so impressed. Is a boat sale looming! Thanks as always for sharing your experience.

Love the idea of Kama.
Nice to things are back to normal with Kath slaving away!
Looking good now and can’t wait to see what name you come up with!
looking good
Great job girls!
Looks like a good job 👍
Ooh er, I've got to do that soon. Going to try blacking for first time this year as well. I bet it won't be a patch on your efforts though:-)
You'll be fine, just try to make your first coat your best one.
Goldilocks' weather. Love it!
Kaths saying. I stole it.
I'd love to sign write, always been a dream of mine, unfortunately I've never really been any good when practising.
Nice colour with the window frames!
You have done a brilliant job and you have not done it in a dry dock and for a first time well done I had a boat done it cost me £5000 and I had to live in a hotel for a month
Thanks so much. I was happy to keep the boat protected and for that I think it was a good job.
