    Oh no, not the WD-40.. save that for squeaky door hinges... Mix yourself up a 50-50 batch of Acetone and Automatic Transmission fluid.. it's dirt cheap to make and it makes WD-40 look like water.. Spray it on heavily and let it sit about 4 hours before disassembling.. Put it to the test.. BTW ..Nice video...

      That is a huge vise, do u have any idea how much it weighs?

  • @jzrgrmm
    @jzrgrmm 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It was patented in 1891, but that doesn't mean the vice was cast that year, though.

    • @KOPOprojects
      @KOPOprojects  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you're right it's actually really hard to know the exact year it was cast. Maybe it was cast in the early 1900 but we can still say that it's a pretty old vise!

    Una herramienta de 130 años y funciona. La restauración (a mi gusto) quedó "a medio camino". Solo fue limpieza... Faltó ese toque especial para terminarlo y que luzca como nuevo. Hay materia para ello.

    The vise bed seems too light to me. Great vise. But it's good that you didn't grind the old cast iron too much. You have restored carefully, keeping the marks of history.
    I liked your work.

    The 'Patent-Date' does not necessarily indicate the date of manufacture...usually not.

    • @KOPOprojects
      @KOPOprojects  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes thank you! But it's the only information I was able to get but I'm aware it's probably not the real manufacturing date.

    My grandfather would spray the nuts, bolts and screw heads w machinist oil and let it sit for twenty four hours. Then before muscling bolt or screw, he would take the largest screwdriver into the slot and tap the screwdriver handle with a ballpeen. Then setting the screwdriver in the screws slot firmly and TIGHTEN the screw, then loosen it. It worked ever time. He loved bring old tools back to life.

    Must have been a cheap vise back in the day. Pipe jaws should be way too hard to file. I'm not very impressed with the design either. But you did a nice job!

    • @KOPOprojects
      @KOPOprojects  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We're pleased that you loved the restauration! Apparently, this type of vise used to be the best vise you could buy back in 1891. For sure the manifacturing technology and the precision was not the same but it's still a usefull tool !

    • @ultimatewarrior4852
      @ultimatewarrior4852 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jealous you don't have one? It really is SHAME that all vise manufacturers can't impress you. You knucklehead you couldn't do better. Shows what you know this vise is referred to as the Rolls Royce of vises. It is a steamfitters vise each part having a specific purpose. I sure hope someone made a vise that looks cool in your opinion. How it looks matters!

      @@ultimatewarrior4852 Just because something is old, doesn't make it good. KOPO did a good job. But I don't have to love the tool.

      @@TheMetalButcher oh thanks captain obvious. I was under the impression that everything old was good. Literally everything. You could never give me knowledge about anything tool related. I restore antique tools. Vises especially. I'm 40. Been doing it a long time. Save your wisdom for someone that could use it.

    • @KOPOprojects

      For future reference they are available online.
      And here is a video showing how to make some that do not appear to be stamped out of sheet metal, like a lot of those online appear to be.
      I do like your videos.
