      My grandson was pouting the holiday candy my wife stocks up on clearance and hides around the house. I didn’t take my grandson long to figure out that the shoeboxes in my closet had bags of candy in them. I think they can smell it like a bloodhound. It was my turn to watch him and we were playing video games. He kept pausing the video game. I was using the time to find cheat code to get better armor and ammo, Eventually I went to use the bathroom there were candy rappers everywhere in the bathroom. I got him to clean up the before my wife got home. I took all the rappers to the outside trash can. He was acting a little weird when his momma came picked him up, she called us around 2 hours later and asked what we fed him to be running around in circles and sliding across the floor. My daughter drove back and dropped him off for the night, apparently he gotten into my DrPepper stash too. We had a great time all night and into the next day playing video games.

    You did a great job repairing the "Huge Bronze Bushings". However, I feel that I must take you to task over your minimallist approach to the solution. You have a whole bunch of machines you could have used in fixing the bushing. A Shaper, Mill, Surface Grinder to mention a few. I recall in the past you have gone to extreme measures to find solutions to include as many machines as possible for a given job. As a Subscriber I miss the old way of going above and beyond to include methods in the process that probably weren't required but were to say the least were entertaining. Please, in future videos don't forget to go above and beyond requirements. Just kidding, as always great job, and dare I say we all learned something. KOKO!* (*borrowed from ARW)

    What beautiful grandchild!
    The ball mill where I worked for over 20 years was somewhat larger. The bottom trunion was lubricated with high-pressure oil. The oil acted as a bearing with the trunion riding on the oil suspension
    The low pressure oil pump lubricated the top trunion. It's Achilles heel was dirt. The material that ran through it was gritty and lower Ph . If outer seals wore excessively, there were problems for sure.

    Take it from an old timer. Sometimes (really a lot of the time) when you line up the hole with the zerk. You will only get fresh grease out of the one hole. When the grease goes through the channel it will be forced out several holes. Hope I explained it enough.

    Hi Steve love your you tube channels, I would like to ask a question about the expanding transfer punches you have used on your channel are they manufactured in the USA or are they imported from China,reason why I am asking is I am from the UK a small place called Wales like most people that have their own home workshop they have to balance what they buy, now I don't mind paying for quality tools what I do dislike is when your still paying top dollar and end up getting rubbish apologise for being long winded.
    Best regards Keith Scourse.

    So given that you want lube all the way around, why NOT clock the hole 45 degrees off? That would at least cause 2 of the holes to get equal lube.
    Not that straight won't work. But makes it really easy for the direct hole, and hardest for the one 180 degrees off.

  • @sblack48

    My thinking is that with the hole lined up the grease will take the path of least resistance and be less inclined to travel all the way around to the holes on the bottom. I've seen that with way oilers.

    • @Hoaxer51
      @Hoaxer51 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Probably be better with two grease zerks, one on each side.

    • @MrNeverseeme
      @MrNeverseeme 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Same thouht here. The bushing should be offset between holes so the grease makes its path all the way round, not straight in. It should be ok either way, if lubricated while running.

    I've never liked the bushings with a grease groove all the way around. The grease will follow the path of least resistance so it doesn't come out where the most pressure is and he grease is needed the most. The shaft has to carry the grease around the bushing.

    Steve, why didn't u use the drill press to tap the holes? u had a straight line for the hole.. maybe u were afraid that the tap might
    break-off in the hole? other wise grat job getting the Bronze Bushing-off/on with ur Son's Help..

  • @HolzMichel
    @HolzMichel 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Steve, i had to laugh when you set up on the drill press to drill for the grub screws. pretty janky. you could have just stuck the bearing housing on your dividing head and drilled it on the milling machine in which case the bores would have lined up perfectly and been exactly 180 degrees in opposition to each other.
    also, the grease grooves in the bronze part probably should be diagonal instead of perpendicular and in line of the bore. the diagonal actually helps pull the grease into the groove and spreads it over a much wider surface area. grooves in line with the bore will tend to wear much faster and start to waller out just where the grooves are. under load that bearing won't live but maybe 100 hrs or less as is now. the housing is also way too thin given the load it has to take

    By the way Steve we call our children bairns and grandbairns instead of kids or children. Even though my daughter is in her 30s we still call her the bairns. Unfortunately we don't have grandbairns yet because of reasons beyond their control.

    It seems like putting the hole in the bushing directly in line with the zerk would give priority to that one hole. Putting the zerk 1/2 way between holes would spread the grease evenly between at least two holes. Just MHO

    Thanks for this video and a chance to meet your granddaughter. It was nice to see your son again in your video. Steve, I have a question regarding the thread compound that you described as "never come out" could those allen screws be removed at a later date with lots of torque? How could they be removed. Thread lock compounds are a mystery as to what to use and why (maybe the subject for a future video).
