    Cool deal, I've wanted to build that one. Going to follow!

      Awesome man! Thanks for subscribing! That boat has been a lot of fun to build. I'm hoping to have it on the water this spring. If you decide to build one, let me know if you have any questions about it!

    I just stumbled across this initial video in your build series, and as the now-retired editor of several boating/boatbuilding magazines, I'm ASTOUNDED that this is your first boat. Your work is nothing short of EXCELLENT. Mastering the process and techniques of stitch-and-glue construction is NOT easy, yet you did just that. And it doesn't hurt that you chose one of my favorite flats-boat designs. Congratulations all around. I hope that in the years to come, you'll go on to build other boats, as well.

      Wow! That might be the best compliment I've ever received. I've put a lot of heart and soul into this project, so your words mean a lot! I have thoroughly enjoyed this project. It is very likely that I will be building another boat in the future. I would really like to spend some time in Port Aransas at Farley Boat Works and build one of the traditional Port A skiffs.

      @@SchwindOutdoors I finally found a decent photo of a Port Aransas Skiff, built at Farley. It's certainly a nice "flat-iron" skiff, with a strong local history behind it. As a boatbuilder, however, you can definitely handle bigger challenges. How about this one: www.boatbuildercentral.com/StudyPlans/PH18_STUDY.pdf In this boat, you could take your wife and child with you as you explore the coastal back country! (By the way, I think the PERFECT outboard for this 18-footer would be the Yamaha F70. It was one of my favorites when I sold boats and outboards just prior to retiring.)

      @@labtrainer09 That is really cool boat! I'm surprised that it is stitch and glue. I would very much like to build that one! I'll have to wait until I get into a bigger shop. Thanks for sharing! What were some of the magazines that you were the editor for? I would love to check them out.

    I messed up and didnt put a skeg on (yet) and it definitely needs one. It slides like an airboat with a 9.9 merc

      I almost decided against a skeg. I'm glad I decided to do it!

    Holy cow, that stitch and sew method is wild! What's the foamy looking stuff you fill the compartments with at 9:52? And what purpose does it serve? Does it stay there to increase buoyancy?

    • @SchwindOutdoors
      @SchwindOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's crazy that you can build a boat with zip ties and glue! The foam is a special marine grade, closed cell buoyancy foam. It help supports the frame and of course, makes the boat more buoyant.
