I have an old laptop lying in desk for quite long time but in pristine condition. It was dead and everyone gave up to repair it. Your video was savior, I successfully restored the laptop yaay. Removed the BIOS battery and replaced. it. it worked like a charm. Thanks very much PC monkey

Fingers crossed this works because the previous steps failed. I forgot to turn off my laptop it was on sleep mode when I try to turn on its power button light start and after a few seconds it turns off. I reset the CMOS battery but it still doing the same thing. Kindly help
I spilled a small bit of water on it wasn't too bad so I turned up side down to let it drain. i turned it on after that and it worked fine. so i turned it off and let it charge. then when i went to turn it back on nothing. tried all the steps in your first video nothing. now im resetting the cmos battery and if that doesnt work I will cry. I loved that laptop. I hope this works. why would the cmos battery be affected after water being spilled is there a fuse anywhere?
Sleep mode just absolutely sucks on my Dell XPS 13 “. My battery gets drained to near zero many times a month and over time I’ve noticed it wreaks havoc on tbe Bios. My machine was getting stuck at shutdown with the fans blowing and not able to turn off and my clock was constantly off. After watching this video I decided to reset the cmos battery even though my machine would boot and turn on. So glad I did it !!! This fixed my problem!!! I’m still wondering about keeping this laptop as Sleep mode on a Mac OS just works. Any suggestions on how to configure my laptop to perform sleep better would be appreciated or do I just shutdown each time ?

I'm on this video now, got a right charger for the hp 430 g3 and i've taken apart the laptop in order to remove the cmos battery.. In fact i tried placing a new one in there prior but still same symptoms. Funny thing is, the moment i plug the charger the led in power button and charger button lights up and then turns off. Same thing for when i put the battery back in. So I just taken out the cmos battery again and will leave it out for an hour or so and i'll try to put it back in and test more. I really hope i could get this laptop fixed because it's a really nice laptop and would make a great gift to someone in need. Thank you for your time and expertise. I will keep you posted.

PC Monkey I’ve gone ahead and ordered a multimeter last night. Same one as yours I believe. That way I could test the power jack to see if it that’s my issue. No rush, I have a couple more laptops here as well I could use those tools on. I have an older hp envy 17 inch that doesn’t take charge but turns on fine as long as battery got juice. I’ll check the video you pointed out though. Thanks for your response.

When I turn on my dell laptop, the screen goes on and displaying the dell logo and the loading sign. After that, the screen goes blackout. But the light of indicators are still on. How to fix this?

When computer started working, it said the system had an error when starting, it couldn't find the module for C:\Windows\System32\LogiLDA.dll I am not sure what that means, but I sure hope the computer works now.

I've enquired about my issue in one of your videos elsewhere. After going through this video, I think it's BIOS related. I need to reset the BIOS as advised by you. My issue is, since my Vaio laptop battery isn't in working condition i use it by connecting directly and power is on. Lights blink. Fan runs but there's no display, i.e. the laptop is not turning on. In such situation can I connect the laptop with an external monitor or an led tv to check if it's okay? Now, if there's display what does that signify? Also, please confirm connecting the laptop with an external monitor is advisable? The laptop screen went black when the boot mode changed from LEGACY to UEFI thus the black screen. Do you think by taking out the CMOS battery will reset the BIOS?

Also while doing the bios reset as u said that the small battery kept out for hour. I kept it for 35 min and add it again to it place . While plugging my main battery the spark I seen at HDD place . I thought I done something wrong and I burn out one of part of my laptop . I don't know why this happens. But my laptop working fine now . Both storage are okay . No worries. Does replacing the CMOS battery require a factory reset or can it be replaced without doing a reset? My computer was beeping 5x when turned on and still working. I just removed the actuall computer battery and plugged in the power jack and it now works without beeping. I should mention that I have gotten pop up notices saying "the battery has failed" so I guess I should get a new main battery before worrying about those beeps?

I changed the CMOS battery on my old Dual Core Dell desktop after problems (F1) booting. I had the old battery out only a very few minutes quickly popping the new CMOS battery in place, and immediately the computer worked great but had mysteriously lost all sound. I have replaced the drivers and refreshed (or reset) Windows 10.The sound system is not recognized as even being present by the computer. Would leaving the new battery out of its case to reset the BIOS perhaps solve this problem with the sound? Thank you so much for your help!!!
Hi, my asus laptop just show black screen, but at the early seconds, the LED lights on my laptop turned on, it also didn't have any beep. This happened after I open my laptop's inside to clean the fan. But what I got is worse than an overheating laptop lol. Wish you could direct for what videos that can help me, because I tried switching the RAM slot and it is torture to open the screws over and over again. Thanks sir.
For the cmos battery that it's wrapped should I just unplug it and then plug it in!?? Cuz i did gave my hp pavilion dm4 beats edition to a technician and he said maybe i should formate the 2 bios bin so i trust him and he did it but after 2 weeks this problem happened screen black and the power button and taps cap clignote a light. I did all those steps from 1st vid but didn't work. Any suggestions !!!!
If your trying to factory reset your operating system, its best to have the CMOS battery plugged in and everything in the computer working as it should be.

My dell inspiration 15r is giving a single beep and not starting. I did some research, and it seems like it's a problem with the bios? Should I try changing the battery for bios reset first? I saw in the Lenovo video for resetting bios, that you would have to fix the date/time stuff if the laptop turned on after resetting or it could screw up the system. Is this the same for Dell, or does Dell not require the fix?
Hello. I have problem, my laptop keeps turning on and off in loops. I will try your recommendation to fix it. My question is, will all my files be erased if I do BIOS reset? If in any step / method you recommend there will be files that would be erased or need to be erased, how can I retrieve those files?

Is there a way to test the hard drive once you can remove it and access it, and what special tools or equipment are needed, ie: VOM meter, oscilla scope or any other specialized equipment??
Hi, My Dell laptop does 5 beeps when turning on the black screen. When I do bios reset and it goes back to factory will all my saved files/ms office be deleted?
No, a BIOS Reset will not erase any data as long as the Hard Drive is good. However, 5 Beeps on a Dell usually refer to a Processor Failure. And usually, since the Motherboard or the CPU Socket will go before a CPU will, I would assume your Motherboard needs to be replaced.
Thank you for the good explained videos and the extreme details. I have a question though, what if the laptop turns on for about 5 seconds and dies out, the screen turns on only with the back light sort of grey but nothing on it. I can hear the fan running etc during these 5 seconds. Any idea?

I tried that and the same, i noticed that when i start the laptop the fan turns on for 3-4 seconds then the fan only shuts off, if left for another 10 seconds the fan turns on by itself while the CAPS lock light is steady on, pressing the power button doesnt do anything, but holding it down it shuts down the laptop. Ive tried all your videos methods. Unsure whats the cause

@@PC_Monkey thanks a lot. I can perform motherboard replacements as I’ve done it on some other laptops. My laptop is Lenovo v130 I’ve been googling the issue and I came across many whom had the same or similar issues. I suspect it’s the MB aswell but trying to keep that to the very last. Since they cost around 270 USD.
I don't fully understand if I should replace the battery with a new one or just pop it out, leave it for an hour and then pop the same one in. Also, "draining the motherboard", should I turn the computer on for this. Sorry, I am completely clueless about these things. BTW my laptop is a Dell Latitude E5410. Thank you for your help!
In order to reset BIOS its best to have the main computer battery out and the power cord unplugged. Then you remove the CMOS battery for up to 20 minutes and then put the same one back in. That resets BIOS. Is that what your trying to do?
Hey, really appreciate the tip. I am having trouble with one screw underneath the keyboard (Dell Vostro) that won't open. Seems like it is damaged and worn off from the top. Do you have any tips for opening that kind of a screw?
If the screw is stripped then you would have to drill it off. If its a different kind of screw like a hex screw, you would simply need the correct driver.

Hi, I must say you have very interesting and more so, very relevant topics to help people that are not too tech savvy, so kudos to you. I own a DELL VOSTRO 1710 laptop with 2GB RAM. I am getting to the stages where i have to replace my CMOS battery but have picked up an error with my separate keyboard and separate plug in mouse (not mouse pad) The problems are both are not working 100%. My keyboard jumps all around with letters being typed and the mouse scrolls up continually. The only way I have to stop it is by using the UP/DOWN keys on the keyboard, then it will stop for a short while, then carry on again. I have a funny feeling this may be a USB problem although Ive never had USB problems in the past. Maybe its the battery on the CMOS who knows. Please assist with your knowledge and experience. Thank you so much.
Sounds like a keyboard issue. Try 'reseating' the keyboard ribbon cable from both ends. If that does not help, try the steps seen here after the physical key replacement; th-cam.com/video/wqrchfpdJ_w/w-d-xo.html

@@shreyanshverma342 Try replacing the CMOS battery. It could be dead and not keeping power in the motherboard on power down. Then BIOS needs to be reset each time.

Not sure if this will fix my laptop yet, (Dell Inspiron 15 5577) as I just removed the CMOS battery, however, I wanted to ask you: I've been hearing clicking sounds (for months) coming from the top right corner of laptop/keyboard where the power button is but the laptop has always worked. Yesterday morning, when I powered it up, I heard a louder noise then usual, but it powered on and I used it. As soon as I chose "Shut Down", when I went to turn it back on, no power at all. Charger blue light is lit but when plugged into Laptop, no indicator light on laptop at all. I've followed both video #1 and now on Video #2 waiting for BIOS reset to finish. I also can't seem to find where to buy a compatible CMOS battery in case its that issue. Any idea why I was hearing the clicks for so long and why all of a sudden no power? I have the Dell latitude e5470 that was laying around for 2 yrs by my son-in-law because he's always buying new laptops every 2 yrs. The problem I'm having is it has a Symantec software and he doesn't remember the password. I want to upgrade it and after seeing your video, by changing the small CMOS battery & bring it back to factory settings will it bypass the Symantec software or can I remove it entirely? I'm so anxious to upgrade this laptop and in 2 years he'll be giving his new one and I can upgrade it too. Why buy a new laptop (milk) when I know he'll give the laptop (the cow) to me. If this is a Windows password, you would have to factory reset windows. Assuming you have a Dell computer, you can see that here; th-cam.com/video/IE1zShTb0rU/w-d-xo.html. If this is a BIOS password your talking about, unfortunately, I dont advise on how to bypass that on this channel. Your symantec software would be Windows related so you would need to do a factory reset. The CMOS battery operation wont have any effect on that.

3 beeps is usually a Motherboard: Chipset error. First run the Dell Diagnostics as seen here; th-cam.com/video/IsqINCxx_Ik/w-d-xo.html. Great video, really informative, i have encountered an issue, i used the first method by pressing the power button after releasing the battery, it worked at first but after shutting it down it required to do the same step as before for it to turn on again
@@AnalogueSpam Do you use your computer with a healthy surge protector or do you just plug the computer into the outlet? Also, the battery or charger may be going bad. Try running the computer for a day or two with just the charger by removing the battery. Does the problem continue?

remove the CMOS battery and insert it again after 30 min will work for me.
I repeatedly pressed enter upon start up and it seemed to help.
I spilled a small bit of water on it wasn't too bad so I turned up side down to let it drain. i turned it on after that and it worked fine. so i turned it off and let it charge. then when i went to turn it back on nothing. tried all the steps in your first video nothing. now im resetting the cmos battery and if that doesnt work I will cry. I loved that laptop. I hope this works. why would the cmos battery be affected after water being spilled is there a fuse anywhere?

Sleep mode just absolutely sucks on my Dell XPS 13 “. My battery gets drained to near zero many times a month and over time I’ve noticed it wreaks havoc on tbe Bios.
My machine was getting stuck at shutdown with the fans blowing and not able to turn off and my clock was constantly off.
After watching this video I decided to reset the cmos battery even though my machine would boot and turn on. So glad I did it !!! This fixed my problem!!! I’m still wondering about keeping this laptop as Sleep mode on a Mac OS just works.
Any suggestions on how to configure my laptop to perform sleep better would be appreciated or do I just shutdown each time ?

I'm on this video now, got a right charger for the hp 430 g3 and i've taken apart the laptop in order to remove the cmos battery.. In fact i tried placing a new one in there prior but still same symptoms. Funny thing is, the moment i plug the charger the led in power button and charger button lights up and then turns off. Same thing for when i put the battery back in. So I just taken out the cmos battery again and will leave it out for an hour or so and i'll try to put it back in and test more. I really hope i could get this laptop fixed because it's a really nice laptop and would make a great gift to someone in need. Thank you for your time and expertise. I will keep you posted.

PC Monkey I’ve gone ahead and ordered a multimeter last night. Same one as yours I believe. That way I could test the power jack to see if it that’s my issue. No rush, I have a couple more laptops here as well I could use those tools on. I have an older hp envy 17 inch that doesn’t take charge but turns on fine as long as battery got juice. When I turn on my dell laptop, the screen goes on and displaying the dell logo and the loading sign. After that, the screen goes blackout. But the light of indicators are still on.

When computer started working, it said the system had an error when starting, it couldn't find the module for C:\Windows\System32\LogiLDA.dll
I am not sure what that means, but I sure hope the computer works now.

I've enquired about my issue in one of your videos elsewhere. After going through this video, I think it's BIOS related. I need to reset the BIOS as advised by you. My issue is, since my Vaio laptop battery isn't in working condition i use it by connecting directly and power is on. Lights blink. Fan runs but there's no display, i.e. the laptop is not turning on. In such situation can I connect the laptop with an external monitor or an led tv to check if it's okay? Now, if there's display what does that signify? Also, please confirm connecting the laptop with an external monitor is advisable? The laptop screen went black when the boot mode changed from LEGACY to UEFI thus the black screen. Do you think by taking out the CMOS battery will reset the BIOS?

Hello, I have a Dell Latitude E747Q: I repaired the computer successfully but after I created a standard account and rebooted the computer then before the post screen it said "Locked" and shutdown. Now it will will just start and shutdown. I have never seen or experienced this "Locked" scenario. Is this a new Windows 10 thing? How to fix it?

Does replacing the CMOS battery require a factory reset or can it be replaced without doing a reset?
My computer was beeping 5x when turned on and still working. I just removed the actuall computer battery and plugged in the power jack and it now works without beeping. I should mention that I have gotten pop up notices saying "the battery has failed" so I guess I should get a new main battery before worrying about those beeps?

I changed the CMOS battery on my old Dual Core Dell desktop after problems (F1) booting. I had the old battery out only a very few minutes quickly popping the new CMOS battery in place, and immediately the computer worked great but had mysteriously lost all sound.
I have replaced the drivers and refreshed (or reset) Windows 10.The sound system is not recognized as even being present by the computer. Would leaving the new battery out of its case to reset the BIOS perhaps solve this problem with the sound?

Hi, my asus laptop just show black screen, but at the early seconds, the LED lights on my laptop turned on, it also didn't have any beep.
This happened after I open my laptop's inside to clean the fan. But what I got is worse than an overheating laptop lol.

For the cmos battery that it's wrapped should I just unplug it and then plug it in!?? Cuz i did gave my hp pavilion dm4 beats edition to a technician and he said maybe i should formate the 2 bios bin so i trust him and he did it but after 2 weeks this problem happened screen black and the power button and taps cap clignote a light. I did all those steps from 1st vid but didn't work. Any suggestions !!!!
Yes, you would just unplug it to perform the BIOS reset :) I try to mess with BIOS as little as possible. To bad he did that :(
Hello! Are you supposed to factory reset while the CMOS battery is out, or do you need to put it back in before doing that?
If your trying to factory reset your operating system, its best to have the CMOS battery plugged in and everything in the computer working as it should be.

My dell inspiration 15r is giving a single beep and not starting. I did some research, and it seems like it's a problem with the bios? Should I try changing the battery for bios reset first? Would that fix that? or should I try replacing the bios chip?

Yes, you can replace the CMOS battery. They are usually pretty cheap :)

I saw in the Lenovo video for resetting bios, that you would have to fix the date/time stuff if the laptop turned on after resetting or it could screw up the system. Is this the same for Dell, or does Dell not require the fix?
Yes. In any computer that uses BIOS, the Time/Date settings need to be correct in BIOS

No, a BIOS Reset will not erase any data as long as the Hard Drive is good. However, 5 Beeps on a Dell usually refer to a Processor Failure. And usually, since the Motherboard or the CPU Socket will go before a CPU will, I would assume your Motherboard needs to be replaced.

I tried that and the same, i noticed that when i start the laptop the fan turns on for 3-4 seconds then the fan only shuts off, if left for another 10 seconds the fan turns on by itself while the CAPS lock light is steady on, pressing the power button doesnt do anything, but holding it down it shuts down the laptop. Ive tried all your videos methods. Unsure whats the cause

My laptop is Lenovo v130 I’ve been googling the issue and I came across many whom had the same or similar issues. I suspect it’s the MB aswell but trying to keep that to the very last. Since they cost around 270 USD.

I don't fully understand if I should replace the battery with a new one or just pop it out, leave it for an hour and then pop the same one in. Also, "draining the motherboard", should I turn the computer on for this. Sorry, I am completely clueless about these things.

In order to reset BIOS its best to have the main computer battery out and the power cord unplugged. Then you remove the CMOS battery for up to 20 minutes and then put the same one back in. That resets BIOS.

Hey, really appreciate the tip. I am having trouble with one screw underneath the keyboard (Dell Vostro) that won't open. Seems like it is damaged and worn off from the top. Do you have any tips for opening that kind of a screw?
If the screw is stripped then you would have to drill it off. If its a different kind of screw like a hex screw, you would simply need the correct driver.

Hi, I must say you have very interesting and more so, very relevant topics to help people that are not too tech savvy, so kudos to you. I own a DELL VOSTRO 1710 laptop with 2GB RAM. I am getting to the stages where i have to replace my CMOS battery but have picked up an error with my separate keyboard and separate plug in mouse (not mouse pad) The problems are both are not working 100%. My keyboard jumps all around with letters being typed and the mouse scrolls up continually. The only way I have to stop it is by using the UP/DOWN keys on the keyboard, then it will stop for a short while, then carry on again. I have a funny feeling this may be a USB problem although Ive never had USB problems in the past. Maybe its the battery on the CMOS who knows. Please assist with your knowledge and experience. Thank you so much.
Sounds like a keyboard issue. Try 'reseating' the keyboard ribbon cable from both ends. If that does not help, try the steps seen here after the physical key replacement; th-cam.com/video/wqrchfpdJ_w/w-d-xo.html

@PC Monkey The bios reset worked. But now i need to do it everytime i turn my laptop off, sleep mode ,hibernate, etc. Anything to do with pressing power button to turn on laptop. Can you help me in anyway. Whats the faulty component here. Only battery charging light turns on if i try to turn on laptop without bios reset. But after the bios reset everything works fine until i need to press the power button again.

Yesterday morning, when I powered it up, I heard a louder noise then usual, but it powered on and I used it. As soon as I chose "Shut Down", when I went to turn it back on, no power at all. Charger blue light is lit but when plugged into Laptop, no indicator light on laptop at all. I've followed both video #1 and now on Video #2 waiting for BIOS reset to finish. I also can't seem to find where to buy a compatible CMOS battery in case its that issue. Any idea why I was hearing the clicks for so long and why all of a sudden no power? Let me know how that goes :) Not sure what the clicks were without seeing whats in that part of the computer. I usually get my batteries on Amazon. Just make sure the values are the same as the one you have
I have the Dell latitude e5470 that was laying around for 2 yrs by my son-in-law because he's always buying new laptops every 2 yrs. The problem I'm having is it has a Symantec software and he doesn't remember the password. I want to upgrade it and after seeing your video, by changing the small CMOS battery & bring it back to factory settings will it bypass the Symantec software or can I remove it entirely? I'm so anxious to upgrade this laptop and in 2 years he'll be giving his new one and I can upgrade it too. Why buy a new laptop (milk) when I know he'll give the laptop (the cow) to me. Great video

If this is a Windows password, you would have to factory reset windows. Assuming you have a Dell computer, you can see that here; th-cam.com/video/IE1zShTb0rU/w-d-xo.html. If this is a BIOS password your talking about, unfortunately, I dont advise on how to bypass that on this channel. Your symantec software would be Windows related so you would need to do a factory reset. The CMOS battery operation wont have any effect on that.
Hello, I have Dell Inspiron and its not turning on as it was in some reset process and my daughter just turned the power button off and since then its not starting. It makes 3 continues beeps and pauses and repeats again. I did check your diagnostic video but that did not work for me and still just beeping what do you recommend???? 3 beeps is usually a Motherboard: Chipset error. First run the Dell Diagnostics as seen here; th-cam.com/video/IsqINCxx_Ik/w-d-xo.html. If that shows no errors, try to perform a BIOS Reset as seen here; th-cam.com/video/kTYlxcL1cQc/w-d-xo.html.

Great video, really informative, i have encountered an issue, i used the first method by pressing the power button after releasing the battery, it worked at first but after shutting it down it required to do the same step as before for it to turn on again
Every time you start your computer you have to perform the static release procedure?

@@AnalogueSpam Do you use your computer with a healthy surge protector or do you just plug the computer into the outlet? Also, the battery or charger may be going bad. Try running the computer for a day or two with just the charger by removing the battery. Does the problem continue?
