Middle aged men that want to run a bar in Thailand be like "my bar is sick, please send money."
I’ve seen this happen far too many times. The whole bar scene is a giant snake pit for foreigners. Walk away and start over, meet a normal woman who’s never set foot in the bar scene and maybe open up a regular bar or restaurant or something that caters to families.

You’re exactly correct. I’m at the most he owns only 49% of the bar but judging from what he said, it was never set up correctly so I presume she owned 100% and he can never 100% of the bar so I’m not sure who would be investing in such a crazy idea of a business. The guy seems very naïve.

Most bars there are bound to fail. Its fun while it lasts, but you need bottomless pockets. Unfortunately the mentality of most long time bar girls, is to take as much money as a foreigner is willing to fork out. Using any means possible, including the mama sans. In 36 years of going there I've seen it too many times.

This isn't about the success of the bar. It is an ownership issue.
When I first came to Thailand I probably got done over by a few bar girls but nothing extreme. It didn’t take long to learn the rules of the game. Will never understand the guys that go and buy these girls houses and cars after shagging them for 2 months
I know this is a difficult decision, but it must be made. You need to walk away from this bar business immediately . Don't invest any more money into it. This venture has already negatively impacted your health and finances. It's time to start over. This bar will likely never be as successful as you envisioned, and continuing to pursue it will only further drain your health and savings.
The bar is going fine i see the figures everyday, i programmed the pos system, although all the money is being taken at the moment i have a lawyer that thinks we can win and is working on performance basis, small amount up front the rest from the winnings, No win no pay.
Bit of a negative comment isn't it?If everyone took that sort of view in life nothing would ever get done and dreams would never be achieved. No my advice is follow your heart and your dream never ever give up or let those around you tell you you're a fool and doomed to failure as those people are often the biggest failures in life themselves from want of doing absolutely nothing except getting busy dying,.Maybe it will fail bit without the effort you'll never ever know and life is too damn short for a little bit of safety

Seen it happen a million times in my 40 plus years here. Hard lesson learnt, but why would people donate🤷♂️🤷♂️
"Lets Buy a Bar" is a lot more sophisticated than most people think. Thai people rip each other off too. One of the main elements in this particular scam is to have one party deplete his funds and then sell his share to someone else. You can fight it legally, but that would mean more time and more money. I sincerely hope this works out for Palmy.

A lot of good fellas get screwed like this I've seen 100s go down this path while in Asia even the ones that thrive for a few years end up f##ked due to mostly greed and jealousy from locals from girls, chefs, cops or landlords to name a few ...it rarely ends up a jolly experience!

The best plan to have when any guy moves to Thailand is don’t get in to a relationship just go out and enjoy your self. As for buying property or business that’s a big no no as your girlfriend will own it not you spend your money enjoying yourself and don’t be anyone’s meal ticket. I wish you well for the future

I’m not suggesting that the gentleman deserved what happened to him. No one deserves to be cheated but you are absolutely correct. The guy he interviewed should have been all the warning he needed not to get involved. It defies logic. I can’t help but think if he gets bailed out by his supporters he will likely do it again.

She played the long game with you and you think you are the "smart" one. That lady is much smarter then you ever will be. Remember how fast the contractors arrived at your bar to build the bar up and 2 weeks later everything was ready. This is not her first business venture 😂

I really, really hope everything works out for you. I lost at least 10x what you've lost....extremely depressing but i went into a business i knew nothing about and got a proper rinsing My loss wasnt life changing but it did cause me to be more cautious with investing in anything risky.

Could you offer small equity amounts in the bar? Say 1% shares for $1,000 to subscribers and your bar patrons for a maximum of 10%? Something like that. It would prevent one person having too much ownership.

No interest in donating has I have seen this happen to men in the past and it is throwing good money down the drain you will not get away with it for 200k, as soon as you are in a position to pay the 200k, she will want 400k, you honestly are better off saying no, learning from you mistake, if you choose to do it again be smarter on structure or you will repeat it all again... you seem like a decent enough guy so this advice is free, to all the people wanting to become silent parties, unless you want to lose your money, be wary of it, the Thai's are weird and his troubles with the bar if he manages to get it back will continue , she won't go away.. 100% guaranteed
Seen it happen in Vietnam to many and I mean many expats. Investing in a bar, you will end up broke as a bad joke. I know a few guys who lost more than half a mil aussie dollars in bar investment....was great times but great times never last!
