Awesome video! Well made, easy to follow, and very informative. Much appreciated! Having said that, I would love to sit down with the engineering team who designed, developed, and manufactured a vehicle that requires such a high level of time consuming maintenance in order for me to replace a bulb. I have no doubt that their reasons for this amazing design are so fascinating, not to mention unavoidable and necessary, that they make the hours of work I had to put into swapping a bulb out, totally worth it. Just like the endless recalls I have to deal with! Thanks Ford Motor Company Engineers! Seriously though, thank you for the video. Saved me from spending around $300. On a bulb replacement.
park with your tire turned in. Unclip the front of the wheel well. Pull the cover out of the way, stick a squishy toy in to hold it open, reach your hand up and remove the bulb.
4 years ago this video was made and I'm watching it right now to learn how to do it myself because I really can't afford the dealer to do it when it's just a headlight. I'm so angry that Ford made it so difficult to get to... But, my husband has done some car work before, and I'm his little helper so maybe we can do it? Thank you so so much for the video, extremely helpful and I'm still intimidated but feel much better about it. Just waiting for parts to arrive and we will probably tackle it on one of my days off.
Great detail. Most videos only tell you what to do in general terms, but yours shows how to do it with a lot of detail, which I really appreciate. I especially appreciated the explanation of how to pull the electrical sockets apart, as they always seem to be different on each one of them. The bad part is I could have done without the background music which is now stuck in my brain forever, I'm sure.
I watched your video and it was spot on! I enjoyed your presentation and information. I removed the front tires for ease of access. I was able to get all correct bulbs thanks to your transparency about getting the incorrect ones. Thanks so much! I learned from your experience and video.
Thank you for the video. I couldn't do this myself and had to take my Fusion to the dealer. They told me headlights never burn out and changed me over 300 dollars. I have been changing headlights myself since 1976. Three months later, the other headlight burnt out. This Fusion is the last Ford I will ever buy.
Tracy I removed the front bumper and replaced all the lights in the front end. I have replaced the low beams after this video and you can replace the low beams without removing the entire front bumper. It’s a little difficult but it can be done.
I just loosened everything and pulled the bumper cover back, and I was able to to pull the headlights assembly out without taking the whole front bumper cover off
Changed mine last week without removing the bumper. I removed the screws and plugs in anticipation however. too much rough handling broke the wire to my fog light assembly which is secured to the bumper.
Thank you. Ford Dealer wanted $500 to replace one headlight bulb. We had been cheating and loosening things up enough to swap out the low beam passenger side without taking off the front but that didn't work for the driver's side and I left a lot of skin in the works. Cursing the company for engineering such a hassle to replace bulbs but it is done. Try getting to the PCV to replace that. Argh.
@@ThezNutzGarage He said this: Congratulations. I never had the courage to remove the bumper of my fusion. After this video I think I can. Thank you for sharing with us.
I recommend reattaching the connectors to the bulbs then inserting them into the lamps, so you don't have to fight the connector due to the tight space.
If you have small hands, the left passenger headlight is easy to replace. The right driver is insanely difficult. I'm reporting it to consumer reports, this should be this difficult. They could make it much easier to replace by design.
Forget Consumer Reports, go directly to NTSA. Safety hazard when non skilled , elderly or disabled have to spend 300 at a Ford house to replace a bulb which should only take minutes. Or they will drive with a burned out headlight bulb. I filed with NTSA.
Thank You so much for your tutorial...however...if the headlights aren’t bright enough...and I hit something...what did I safe?...using a less bright headlight bulbs...😃
LED bulbs are incompatible with halogen assemblies. No matter how you aim them, if you aren’t dazzling other drivers, you’re definitely not lighting things up properly
He’s wrong you don’t gotta take the bumper off, just loosen/ remove maybe 6 fasteners then wiggle the headlight housing to the point of getting your hand into the opening .
Good job... I did mine without taking the bumper off. I just removed the plastic rivets on top and the two in each wheel well and I was able to just move the top part of the bumper out and that's all it took.
You dont have to remove anything but the dust cover to replace...low beams...just stick your hands in there...twist real hard counterclockwise....remember the position in how you took it out..pull the whole bulb with the harness...undo harness replace bulb...install in the direction you put it in twist it around a little so that it falls in the groove...once it's in the groove and you feel its flush...push it in while you turn it really hard clockwise until its stuck....the other light is more difficult but does not need to be replaced...its only for aesthetics...let those mothers burn out...
Thanks for the lesson. I'm with you, I'd be afraid to take the shortcuts mentioned by others for fear of bending and breaking something. I was thinking of replacing with the brighter, more expensive low beam bulb since everything is off and the extra cost is small compared to the effort in removing everything. I will definitely rethink that based on your observation regarding the shortened life of the brighter bulbs. Thanks too for mentioning that if you were to do it again you would remove the wheels and inner fenders and set the car on jacks. I was wondering why you didn't do that in the first place given that would have been the easiest part of the job. That's a nice looking car. Hope it's still treating you well.
Precious Gabrielle I really have no clue how much a shop might charge. One viewer said he could reach some of the bulbs with out taking the bumper off. I tried for several minutes but some of the bulbs you have to remove everything to replace them.

Lord forbid your high beams go out. The regular beams are easy if you have small hands. All you need is a little play with the housing. Perhaps take off the hood bumpers. After that, the low beams are easy.
You are correct. After that video I had to replace those low beams again and I found away to change them without removing the front bumper. If the high beams go out it’s a different story.
Hate to tell you buddy, you dont have to take bumper off fully....wheel arch clips off, x2 skirt clips either side, all screws and clips on slam panel....pull bumper forward, head lamps come out....if i could i would add images of doing mine.....took an 1½hr...if anyone interested pm me and ill send images....im an ex ford master tech....in the UK....
Yeah I didn’t want to leave it hanging but I have changed the low beams since then and I can do it from under the hood. It’s very tight but do able. The high beams are the hardest and I will have to loosen the front bumper up to do those.
@ The newer fusions have HID I believe, I have a 2018 SE and have been running LED bulbs in for like 4 years now, I am not sure if its because I left the high beams alone and kept them halogen because I don’t want to completely blind people LOL or the ones I bought are compatible with headlights that normally have halogen bulbs?
