Holy crap! Just to replace a light bulb? Mental note that when negotiating car purchase with salesman they throw in lifetime free labor for bulb and battery replacement! This is an engineering joke!
To replace the low beam there’s no need to do all that hard work. Just take off the dirt protector cover and turn the bulb counterclockwise they will come off easy. I used H11 bulbs. Hope this helps.
You don’t have to do what he did at 1:53. My 2014 fusion bumper came off without that step. T25 bit and 7mm socket is what my car needed. This video was a life saver.
For anyone who may ask, the Fusion high beam bulb is H7, and the low beam bulb is H11. So if you plan to replace the factory bulbs with HID or LED, these are the numbers you need. They are all listed on page 258 of the Owner Manual. Go for the other bulb replacements as LEDs at the same time.
I am so ANGRY right now (the video was super informative though, thank you). I got pulled over by the Military Police on base last night, because I had a headlight burnt out. Luckily, they let me off with a warning, and I got off thinking I would have a 10 minute job to do in the morning. But, seriously? I have to take the bumper off? Now I HAVE to go to a garage, because even if I had the jack to do it, there's a bylaw on base that forbids us from doing any work in our driveways that involves hoisting the vehicle up in ANY way. Thank you for the video, even if it made me scream. You guys did a great job and I just really needed to vent lmao
You really don't need a jack, just the front 2 body plugs and about 6 sheet metal screws for under the front side of the car. It works I just did it, now the rest is nuts, 4 top bolts and radiator cover plugs. Wish it went in the spring, fall or summer.
One of my lights just went out on my 14’ fusion and finding out that I gotta take the whole front end off to change the damn light is rather disappointing.
Having done it myself, you can skip the part at 1:53 where he removes the two brackets for the fenders that the bumper attaches to. You can just simply pull the bumper off. Great video btw 👍
I replaced the side marker, foglight and low beam light bulbs on my 2013 Fusion. It was well worth the effort as the new lighting looks great and has improved visibility. But I agree, it should not have to be this difficult.
This is why you research maintenance on a vehicle you like and are thinking about buying. I work on cars all day and people look at us like we are crazy when we tell them what it takes to perform simple services like this. We try to explain to people the requirements for oil and other fluids and they don't believe it. They think we try to sell shit that people don't need.
I’m an educated man but I can not speak to the habits of your garage. If you are busy week in week out and have repeat customers then my best guess is its probably not your work but no matter what the charge is an extremely high percentage of customers are going to negotiate for little penny while asking for more work. But that is old news so no need for any “research”. The problem with this video has nothing to do with the mechanic, his abilities or the way he walks us through the whole process. Here’s why the industry in which every Tom Dick and Harry must navigate at some point in life becomes a major expense AFTER shelling out tens of thousands of dollars! Even those who have done the Research! The facts are as follows: manufacturers (not just car companies)will cut corners, obviously hire the most ignorant engineers, use cheap labor overseas Mexico (definitely this one) costing us jobs in towns left to rot. Then after they have received all of the tax breaks they can scrounge up from tax attorneys and lobbyists, where they’ll have no problem paying them from the money saved by their piss poor engineers. They could care less about quality, safety, and the environment because no matter how wreck less they run the company….WE TAXPAYERS will always BAIL THEM OUT, thanks to BOTH PARTIES in Congress who have NO PROBLEM writing RUBBER CHECKS! This video is one man who has worked hard to educate himself so he can share with others the process of changing a BULB! He didn’t create the problem and the company obviously doesn’t care about the problem they created because they did it for multiple years. The fact that you are able to tell everyone they should spend more time “researching” before they buy from this POS or that POS COMPANY while you piss and moan about how much the people questioning the shop working on their investment is disappointing! Maybe you should watch this video again and see if you have a clue about how much CAPITAL a single mother of two kids is able to afford to pay someone to change her light bulb!
We picked up a brand new Fusion a few months ago with the sport and suspension package and I love everything about the car, except this. My only complaint about the car is the fucking headlights. Everything is LED except for the headlights and they have the dullest bulbs I have ever seen.
That's Ford's idea of trying to stop people to replace the bulbs by them self and go to dealer to pay more money XD... gotta milk that cow till the last drop... this is the thing that I hate the most about the car.
exactly!! its ridiculous to design something this way. Its like they are intentionally making repairs more difficult, even for a mechanic. It should take 5 minutes to replace a headlight bulb
Only Ford could engineer something like this. Took me 45 min to change the low beam passenger side without taking the wheel well cover off. I have medium size hands and it was a total PITA!
Why would 2 people dislike this video? It's very informative. Thank you for making it. I can't believe I bought a car that's going to take me a couple of hours just to change the light bulb. Huh.
You don't need to go through all that just to change the lights on a Fusion. We've owned several Fusions, headlight bulb change is very simple. All you need to do is remove the dust caps on the headlight housing to gain access.. If you want to install HIDs you may need to do all that., as the HID bulbs lack the right angle base that will allow for more leverage when locking in.
I just did it without removing anything. i pulled the little plastic piece thats right above the bulb, it has two 10mm bolts and a Torx bolt holding it in, then I removed the rubber cover and unplugged the driver side bulb with a screwdriver and twisted it out with 2 fingers, then while the bulb was out I pulled out as much wire as possible and plugged in the bulb outside of the assembly then worked it back in, it seems like there isn't enough room to get the bulb in but it fits even with the plug on it
There's an easier way for the passenger side: I removed two coolant reservoir bolts - lifted it up about 6" - and was able to reach the bulb access with one hand. With a bit of help from a long screwdriver to steady the wiring clip it was an easy replacement. 4 minutes.
I have yellow parking lights in the front. I'm assuming they're parking lights, because they turn on when I stop or park. They're right next to the brights, it's a 2016 model. So I have 3 bulbs within each light compartment, all together 6. Is this something not included with other models?
Unbelievable but true. And after all this work the bulb does not lock into an up down position because the surrounding plastic ring does not have enough room . Which means you wedge it in or have terrible light reflection to the road.
Remind me to never buy another Ford product again..., especially a Fusion. Never mind, I don't think I'll ever forget this!! I'm in my 70's..., I want my '65 GTO, 389, triple deuces back... Much easier to work on. LOL

Grant D there is a good chance you could break the bulb doing that. and stay away from those silverstar bulbs or you will be replacing them again in about a year. go on eBay and buy some LED headlights. brighter than silverstar and you won't ever have to replace them again.
Other videos I've seen show how to access the driver's side bulb by taking out the air cleaner assembly. Nothing about removing bumpers. The passenger side is shown being accessed the same way more or less but still no bumper removal. I think there is an easier way, especially for one without a lift.
What does the other end of that harness on the light plug into. I have only the plug in and need to order part but don't know what that sensor or whatever under the latch is..
I have a 2016 S ford fusion and went all over you tube and there's no way there are any short cuts. Removing the head light assy. is the only way to do it, So fellow mechanic just do it this way and really save time. And if your going to upgrade this is the only way.
Gone are the old days of reaching behind the headlamp assembly and twisting out the bulb without having to drop the front end clip. My goodness. Without a lift, you are screwed.
FyI there are other ways to change the bulb without having to do all that if anyone is stressed. I know for my 2012 ford fushion if you have small hands you can easily reach in and take them out but if you don't you can just slighly remove the cover plate behind the bumper and reach in there.
Doesn't take much guys, just a few hex keys or "L" keys, a jack, jack stands to keep u safe and a skinny pointy Tool, or a flathead to pop all the clippings out, took me about an hour and a half but thats because I was smoking too 😂 I was hesitant to upload a video to show this can be done at home .
You didnt have to remove anything lol. This is like the only video that shows that. Just open hood, pop out the silicone cover behind the housing giving you access to bulb, reach in and twist socket 90 degrees and the bulb slides out. Reverse process to install new bulb thats it. Takes all of 2 mins haha. People removing the bumper and headlight housing must have hulk hands to not be able to do with just the hood open.

That is an easy job. Look at the top of page 258 of the Owner Manual. The lamp uses a clip to attach to the trunk lid. Then pull the bulb out. No tools needed!
My 2015 fusion's bulb just died yesterday, i went to mechanic to get a bulb and replace it. He said he had to take apart the whole front end, we both started laughing, until he stopped laughing first and said he was not joking. WTF is wrong with the ford engineers?
Hello, I am very interested in this vedio, it is helpful for me, I have the same headlight sold in Amazon, may I post the product link here, please? Thanks
Its obvious Ford did this replacement of hell in order to have their wonderful customers take them to ford service to give them more money. What a great way of showing gratitude for buying your brand. Definitely the last thing I buy from Ford!!!
Thanks for sharing & doing this vid … Can’t believe you have to go through all that crazy crap just to switch out headlight bulbs! … it’s definitely not just Ford doing this ; several other manufacturers are following same procedures … JUST PLAIN STUPID! Practically is gone for American car maintenance!
As a product design engineer from automotive industry , these companies urge their design engineers to make complications in order to make more profit down the road. Greedy bastards.
While some of the comments here are comical, I thought this video was extremely helpful. One thing I don’t think the video mentioned is that there is also a bracket on the back-side of the bumper on the drivers side (not just the passenger side). Today I replaced all the stock bulbs up front with LEDs, and tucking the LED drivers in the housing would be tough as well as making room for the heat sinks (instead of fans) if it weren’t for removing the bumper. I’d do it again to upgrade all my lighting. Additionally, I would reco removing the bumper if you need to replace the high beam because of the way it is anchored inside the headlight housing. I also thought the parking light would be challenging because it is a very snug fit; you’ll need pliers to get it loose. If you change your oil yourself, you won’t think this process is that painful, since you already have to remove the first dust cover to reach the oil pan and filter. Yes there are more bolts and push-pins but it’s honestly not that bad. The only challenging part for me was removing the wiring connectors on the passenger side after working the bumper loose. I don’t think they had ever been removed before so they were extremely snug.
I got my 2014 fusion brand new and just now had to replace the lights. Thanks for the video because FUCK THAT SHIT. If I knew about this when I bought the car, I would have gotten something else.

Eric's small tractor restoration because FORD. They're morons.
Because they want you to take it to a Ford garage to be charged $100 or $200 in labor just to change a light.
Because most of these designs are done in third-party engineering firms that have no idea what they are doing.

@@michaelnelson2951 I have 46000 mi, and more than one lamp has not burned out
My 2015 fusion's bulb just died yesterday, i went to mechanic to get a bulb and replace it. He said he had to take apart the whole front end, we both started laughing, until he stopped laughing first and said he was not joking. WTF is wrong with the ford engineers?
Thank you!
Hello, I am very interested in this vedio, it is helpful for me, I have the same headlight sold in Amazon, may I post the product link here, please? Thanks
You know there’s a problem with Ford when the FUSION is MORE EXPENSIVE to replace a light bulb in than a Mercedes and BMW!
Its obvious Ford did this replacement of hell in order to have their wonderful customers take them to ford service to give them more money. What a great way of showing gratitude for buying your brand. Definitely the last thing I buy from Ford!!!
This is an excellent video. Very helpful. Easy to do. Thank you for Sharing.
Priceless. You don't need to remove the bumper.I bet he gives incorrect road directions for chuckles too.
Well I'm not sure what year this is.. But 2006 2007 era.. Its just a small panel to open in the wheel well. So check the. Wheel wells first folks.
It’s ridiculous. Having a headlamp bulb out is a major inconvenience if it’s a 2015 Ford Fusion. All by design. Thanks a lot Ford.
Chevy Malibu is the same way.
+srt4jediify sure is. Both cars suck to replace.
Oh I’ll just use the pit I have in my suburban driveway like everyone does. Thanks.
I did mine from top no removing bumper !!!
This other video the guy only removed the top fasteners and the 3 by the wheel then pulled the top out enough to remove the headlight
Naw, I don't think so. It's totally doable without removing the bumper.
Absolutely, unless perhaps your installing HIDs
The engineer that devolped this and the engineering manager that signed off on it have to be some real asses.
HID headlights should be standard on this car. Much easier to pick another car.
Tomorrow's lesson, changing your own oil. Step 1 - Remove the front bumper.
Step 1: Remove engine
Step 2: Buy a Chevy
Step 3: Drag Fusion behind the chevy and run both off a cliff
Step 4: Headlights never looked so good!
FUCK !!! .... I was thinking of changing out my wife's bulbs .... unbelievable.
Thanks so much
I got my 2014 fusion brand new and just now had to replace the lights. Thanks for the video because FUCK THAT SHIT. If I knew about this when I bought the car, I would have gotten something else.
very good!
