2014 Ford Fusion gets a Brand NEW turbski! Restores her back to the good ole glory days. A good look on the inside of how these MASSIVE 1.5L Turbos fail and what its like to replace. Enjoy! Thanks for watching!
here is a hint on the rusty bolts,, a little brake fluid is a good lube to penetrate the rust.. but one more step... before you loosen any rusted bolt... give i little tighten to the nut... this will break the rust bond.. than a little lube on the exposed part of the stud.. and it will turn right off..
Get an oil separator. It's worth it. Real easy to install on the 1.5 and 2.7 Fusions. Keep that blow-by oil out of the intake. The 1.5 also has a catch bowl in the bottom of the intake manifold. Mine had less than 100k and it had at least a quart or more of oil built up. You should be able to unbolt it and stick a fluid vacuum pump and suck it all out.
So if you use 87 octane gas that clacking is from engine knock. The recommended fuel is reg unleaded. So even using higher octane fuel will not stop the clacking. How many miles do you have on the engine?
I have a 2020 Fusion... My turbo died at 38,000 miles.. First sign is when you start the engine, it will puff blue/white smoke out of the exhaust. Fortunately, mine was 100% covered under warranty!
Would you happen to know if I can put a slightly bigger turbo on my 2019 fusion for more horsepower? If not what would you recommend for my little guy to make more power?
I have the same issue. I just did the timing belt and water pump. What did you pay for the new turbo? Curious if its worth it on such a small engine. Car is still running fine but no power like you mentioned
Right around $400. It would be smart to replace the turbo if it is bad. More problems can occur if you continue to drive it broken. Get your hands on a cheap boost gauge and hook it into a vacuum line. See if the car will build boost pressure. Quick way to isolate the area of concern.
So I replace mine I have a 2014 1.5L and when I turn it on after seeping it smoke start it to come out is that normal ? I already look at everything and it seems good ?
@@corybishop5074 If everything goes as planned with no broken bolts you could have it done in a couple of hours. No clue on what turbo setup you should get. Depends on what you are trying to accomplish.
Well without doing anything to the motor you won't want to upgrade the turbo the motors are built to handle the ones in it and not something that makes more power good way to make your engine go to shit quickly
Yeah, the guy bought his own turbo and said it was the “upgrade” but I’m certain it’s the same diameter. However it was an upgrade from the original lol.
Awesome video. Thanks
Thanks man!

Where’d you purchase the turbo and installation kit?
where did you find torque specs and what did you torque etc
Was this also whistling hard before breaking?

Can you upgrade a 2013 fusion 1.6l eco boost turbo?
How could u tell u had no boost ?

2.0l or 1.5l??
Would you happen to know if I can put a slightly bigger turbo on my 2019 fusion for more horsepower? If not what would you recommend for my little guy to make more power?
It has a good personality, don’t sweat it!
i wonder if the turbos on the 2.7l TT fusion are as easy to replace.
I'll let you know when I upgrade mine. From my research, they're not too bad.

Where did you get a turbo for 400?
@@Xraycrayonit’s $352 after tax on Amazon, I just ordered one for mine, idk how to get the link from the app though
It was painful to see the stock intake go back on that thing
did you put the same size turbo or bigger
Turbo was the same size.
So I replace mine I have a 2014 1.5L and when I turn it on after seeping it smoke start it to come out is that normal ? I already look at everything and it seems good ?
The 1.5 and 1.6 are know for coolant intrusion and they will contaminate the head causing smoke to be made from coolant burning
Smoke coming out of the exhaust on startup is the first sign of bad turbo.. Definitely needs replacement.
Does the 1.5 fusion share the same turbo as the focus ?
No different motors
Why would they put the turbo there?? So impractical
Would you happen to know about how much a mechanic would charge to replace the turbo?
Probably $1400-$1800
I didnt know the fusion ever came with the 1.5l. Odd
What would be a better for more HP
Garrett 2871r. The 1.5l engine is just a little guy.
Total time for replacement. And what Garrett turbo should I get for my 2.0L

Where did you buy the turbo at?
Guy bought it online, RockAuto I believe.
How much do charge for an install like this
The turbo is the spendy part but I could see it be from $1400 - $1800 in a shop.
Can i get a link for the turbo please
I don’t have that info
you can find them online... not $$$$
Replacing a stock turbo with a stock turbo is NOT an upgrade!🙄
Well without doing anything to the motor you won't want to upgrade the turbo the motors are built to handle the ones in it and not something that makes more power good way to make your engine go to shit quickly
More of a replacement than an upgrade no?

@@Manvscars Did you have to do any computer timing the turbo or just bolting it in?
@@MrKenwillis Nope, just bolt and go!
@@Manvscars was it difficult to put on? I have the 1.6 l engine and I was thinking about a garrett
@@MrKenwillis No, it was really straight forward. Just take your time and you can handle it just fine.
So you can take it off with the motor in, thank god
Yeah, pretty easy to get at.
All that work to put in stock turbo. Next time get a real turbo
