Boston was a music project by an engineer who had a vision for how a band should sound. He wrote the music, played most of the instruments, set up a studio at his house and personally recorded everything, and found a singer with the most amazing clear voice you could imagine. The rest is history

The marketing of the " band " was part of the genius. There was the usual radio hype in advance of the tour with plenty of airplay. At the show, about 10% of the audience were shills acting like they had been following the ' band ' around Boston for years. And the people around didn't want to appear ignorant so they would just join in.

The amazing thing is that all these tracks were laid down by ONE guy - Tom Stoltz. The other members in the band were there for vocals and visuals. Tom was an MIT engineer working at Polaroid.

1977. So long ago. I wasn't even 10 years old yet. I remember this song well, though. I saw Boston live in the fall of 1987. Brad Delp, rest in peace. Just glad I got to hear him sing before he was gone. Want to hear some more sweet voices, try Damn Yankees: Come Again.

What makes this album so amazing is it was done on analog tape at Tom Schultz's (the guitar player He's actually an MIT graduate) house, and there was absolutely no digital back then.

Saw them in concert at the Sun Dome in Tampa, FL. in 1991. What a
crowd. While waiting for the concert to start. We saw a man with greying
hair in his' 50's wearing a Tux. His date was a stunning blonde in a
light blue floor length evening gown with a tiara, diamond
earrings/necklace and white elbow length gloves. 10 feet behind them, in
walked a 30's women in a black bustier, leather short shorts, fishnet
stockings, thigh-high boots and black leather gloves. In her hand was a
silver chained dog leash. This leash was attach to the man she was
leading in. He was wearing black combat boots, black leather pants, a
black leather vest (no shirt), spiked leather dog collar and a full
head black leather mask! I told my friends "This Concert just went to
the next level"!! It was awesome! I never saw so many panties thrown
    onto the stage!!

It is impossible to overstate the August 1976 musical Earthquake that was the release of the debut album by Boston. A half dozen songs that got nearly constant air play for the next 12 months. Every song on the album got significant airplay and that is no exaggeration. This was the song that licked things off. Terrific reaction Mo. You are going to like Boston. Lead singer Brad Delp is one of the greatest rock singers ever. Take care Luv, RNB

Hi Mo, the song comes from one of the best debut albums in the history of rock music. Tom Scholz, the band's founder, worked on this very unique guitar sound for a long time. Lead singer Brad Delp was one of the best. Unfortunately, he died much too early, he suffered from depression and committed suicide. This is all the sadder because the people who knew him, described Brad as one of the nicest guys they ever met. But at least: his music lives on. Take care

Not so much a comment on your reaction to this song...although it is nice; but a comment on your obvious love of music. I think you get it...and, more so, you let it get you.
The opening and closing words of this song are so true:
"I looked out this morning and the sun was gone
Turned on some music to start my day
I lost myself in a familiar song
I closed my eyes and I slipped away
    It's more than a feeling
When I hear that old song they used to play
    I begin dreaming...
    ...
When I'm tired and thinking cold
I hide in my music, forget the day
    And dream of..."
The first reaction of yours I saw was to the Alchemy version of Dire Straits Sultans of Swing. Like many people who commented, I was struck by how you let the song into your heart...and soul. And one person even pick a time (around the 6:30 point) where you appeared to be completely drawn into the music...and musicianship...of the song. From that point through its end your amazing smile never really left your face. And, more to the point, it was obvious that the amazement and sheer joy of participating with a truly "beautiful" song was stirring tears to your eyes! As outstanding beauty should impact a person.
Seeing your reaction to that song makes me hope you are as sensitive ("as beautiful on the inside"...) and caring individual as you appear to be.
    Thank you for your posts.
If you don't mind, I'll post some other comments about songs and artists that may elicit similar responses and overall reactions for you.

    • @ptournas
      @ptournas 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

No, You're thinking of Tom Scholz, the guy singing is Brad Delp. Scholz didn't sing on the album. The whole band played on Foreplay/Longtime and Hitch a Ride, Sib Hashian played drums on all the songs except Rock and Roll Band, which Jim Masdea played drums on. Brad Delp both sang and played acoustic guitar on "Let Me Take You Home Tonight.
