Your reaction to this song is EXACTLY how we 80s kids of every race felt when this song was all over the radio in 1982-83. Just absolutely mesmerizing and took you to another place. But then again that was most 1980s and 90s music. Unlike today, which is saved by samples, this was the last decade of 95% originality

The music of the 1980’s was so emotional for me, it was a nice time to be checking out music (my formative years 🤗) also Haircut 100, Soft Cell, Human league, and Gary Newman were influences in my brain at that time

Spandau were a top 80s band from North London this was their only uk number one but it stayed there for four weeks in 1983. and even one week at no 1 in the states.

I remember this song was playing the entire summer of 1983. This album was the music I was listening to when I fell in love the first time. Every time I hear this song, I think of him.

A quintessential 80's tune, no auto tune, just what looks like brand new instruments, all are impeccably dressed, look at those suits, especially the lead singers suit is awesome IMO, and would still in 2023 look as striking as it did in 1983. These guys radiated class as well as not using any auto tune or other artificial musical enhancement, just pure talent. I miss music like this from the 80's, the change from the 70's was so drastic that it actually show's that when you listen closely how good and different the melody
and flow in music like "True" is. It makes me remember the feelings I had when I first heard this back in 1983, it also shows, to me at least, that any really great songs will never lose its luster and how this, even 40 years later, still is as soul stirring and powerful when compared to the absolutely horrible garbage 90% of today's music is.
Tony Hadley's voice is perfection and it's even better now.

Yes, it is amazing! I think many generations went from not getting it and just finding it being a regular alright 80's hit, to see the amazingness and geniousity with it when aging into 40+. That happened to me. You look like you get it immediately! I wish I had.

This is certainly one for the ladies. Back in the day when i was a 20 year old i used to get so jealous how my girlfriend (later my wife) used to swoon all over Spandau Ballet and i hated this song with a passion. But some 39 year years later, i now recognise this song to be an all time classic here in the UK. Though not sure about the States and further a field, maybe not so.
It's a classic here, too, Glassman. A standard, even...maybe the only true (haha, get it) standard the second British Invasion produced. Gary Kemp won the BMI's Million-Air award in 2019 when it reached 4,000,000 airplays here in the States. (which is equivalent to about 38 years of continuous airplay.)

Through a fair part of the 80s this was the final song of the evening at just about every nightclub/disco I went to. It worked a treat and everyone loved it.

I remember being 17 years old and dancing with a girl who I never saw again after high school finished later that year. In a gym, fellow classmates awkwardly dancing together and feeling my palms getting sweaty. I was dancing with a girl. Those first experiences as a young man. It was a great time in my life 1983/84.
