I went through 3 other tutorials (text articles) and nothing seemed to work. With this tutorial, on the first try, BOOM! It worked. Thank You! If only every other tutorial was this well explained, life would be such a wonderful place.
Thank you!! Finally it worked but I had to try several times, by choosing different options on the Convert - Settings tabs. Because first there was no audio on the video, then there was no image. In case someone else had the same problem, the right way to go is to have a tick on "Audio", in the Audio Codec tab (but not on "keep audio original track") and have a tick on "Video", in the Video Codec tab (but not on "keep the video original track").

Success! 3 other sets of instructions (without a TH-cam video) that I tried to follow did not work because several important details were omitted. The only problem I had with these instructions is that I found that, for my purposes, I also had to edit the Profile on the Audio codec tab to specify "Keep original audio track." Thanks David for this simple lesson. I tried other methods that people put up on TH-cam. It didn't work. One even said I could the video and the.srt in one folder. It didn't work. I had to convert my .vtt file to .srt file and that didn't turn out well. Until I saw your channel and followed your instructions. I'm able to watch movies now with subtitles. I will give 5 Star 🤩.

Thanks man! I have used VLC to convert FLAC files to mp3, but didn't know about this. Now I can load in forced srt English subtitles (for different language scenes) into video. Cool. 👌

Worked for me. Trying to set up some of my DVDs so I can put them on a home media server. Was able to add the video in a VOB format as well as select the VOB subtitle file and embed it into the video. Thank you.
If you have the original subtitles in the same folder as the video you just permanently added the subtitles to, then they might show up. Try remove the video from the folder and see if that will work. Thanks!

I had the same problem. I found that the audio encoding was not what I had used previously. You can change it when you click on the little wrench. You will see four tabs. One of them is Audio codec. You can click in there and change it to what you need in the pulldown menu. I changed it to what the file had been previously, which was "MPEG 4 Audio (AAC)". I also changed the sample rate to 48000 Hz, which is what the original file had. Then everything worked for me. Good luck.

from VLC you can also click on 'subtitles > add subtitles > choose the subtitle file > OK'
