I am actually watching this video to get some knowledge because tomorrow I have a test for a job in a dubbing and translating company. The difference between SRT and VTT was helpful as well as the format. Thanks man.
Oh, thanks. It is very usefull. I can't belive it, how long I was looking for normal subtitle editor and than I found your video. I was suprised too, that this format has so simple sourse code.
Thank you so much for your elaborate explanation, sir! I'm trying to get a job as a translator and have made subtitles for some TH-cam documentaries in the past, but it was so long ago that I forgot half of the know-how :) I have never used this subtitle Edit software before, it will make the timing so much easier! Thank you and have a blessed day!
@@sambarua The total should be like this 00:05:12,500 The digits behind the comma are the milliseconds. I don't calculate the time 🤔 I just look at the timing in the video and try to time it from there. For example if someone starts speaking at around the 12 seconds mark, I will try 00:00:11,800 So the subtitles come on screen just a fraction before the person starts talking. If somebody else knows a better way, I would like to know too!! 🤗 Good luck :)
TH-camrs and Video Editors must watch our video and learn from you to how to produce and publish a video that communicates with their audiances and the best utilization of technology; that is distant learning. David thank you very much for a crystal clear presentation. I liked your video.
Excellent vid of the basics...all it needs IMO is a mention that "all the (online) auto processes need a paid subscription and may have limits on video length" - if that is true? (and if any retain your upload/work indefinately?), also that there is no way to download a program to auto-translate on your PC *** EDIT *** just saw your video 'How to Automatically Transcribe and Add Subtitles to a Video Using Subtitle Edit' WOW! (- if that is so? - and if there is such a program, it needs to be mentioned - doing it all on my PC is my personal & strong preferance). And disregard any negative comments re your speaking, it is simply fine - well done.
Hi, nice video. But I'm trying to figure out how to have the captions appear word by word (rather than the whole sentence show up at once), it is easier to follow this way. Can;t figure out how to do it
Hi great video you made. When you save your work, and when you are gonna start where u left last time you just upload videofile and text file and your last work will be there, right? I have never done this before. Im currenting by free choice trying to translate a spanish subtitle from a video where the audio is in thai. The edit program dosen't seem to help with the translating. I can't understand thai or spanish. So Im using google translating and add the text to word document first. Cus the edit program can't seem to translate from thai to english. But mine way works to. Thank you very much. Gonna see more of your videos. All the best.❤😊
Very helpful and well explained. I have a question! TH-cam (also Veed) will create accurate subtitles from a text file of the script. I want to find an application that will do that for me, for less than £10 a month (I'm a private creator and I don't have a budget apart from my pension!). Is there a subtitling application that can synchronise a text file and video and produce a .SRT file?
You're welcome. I'd recommend you try Descript 👉 freelancerinsights.com/GetDescript It supports importing a transcript and synchronizes the transcript to the video and you can export your SRT subtitles. It fits the budget you've mentioned. Here's a video on how it works if you're using Descript Classic (I'll update for the latest version Descript Storyboard soon) th-cam.com/video/lS72yzYXRsg/w-d-xo.html I hope this helps. David.
@@David_Mbugua I've looked at Descript. It appears not to be free, or not for long! And I couldn't make it work with text file + audio -- but I'll go through your tutorial and try further. Very helpful response, thank you do much.
This was done with excellence and clarity to communicate the underlying principles! Major thumbs up. Include the word “ video” in your tag to increase the views. All the other videos on srt showed up when I put in “ create srt, video “, but not yours. Cheers!
Sadlz, I followed the instructions to the T, and double checked the encoding, the formats(plain text), saved it in utcBOM, and to no avail. Final Ciut pro will not import it. I also tried the removing of preferences that Apple suggested. Is there anything that I might trz to keep from tzping in 40 minutes worth of titles.... It took me the whole week to format this as I typed. I would be soooo grateful.
Hello! I have been working with this software for a 2 weeks or so now. And it worked very good. Untill today I got a video file from work. When I started working with it. The audio gets delayed when a click "Play section". What has happend to it? It never did that before. Please help!
Hi David. Thank you for explaining it so clearly. But I encountered a problem while saving the file. When I save it, the app interface gets saved and the file is not saved as an srt file.
hi David tks by very enlightening videos I have the 365 version and extract the subtitles from the movie, to record it included in the movie. In the Video/generate video with embedded subtitles menu, I have already set the font size from 38 to 47 in "Video/Generate video with embedded subtitles" , and in the "options" / video player menu I have already set the size of the letter in 24, but the subtitle inserted in the recorded video, is always small. where can I in the SE365 put the subtitles to be recorded in larger size. ( my LG-TV plays movies with separate subtitles I don't have options, to increase the lyrics. on tv. thanks
I have worked with maestra, until I discovered subtitle edit (thanks to David 👍). Subtitle edit is, hands down, the best! Maestra is very limited and quite expensive. Subtitle edit is free, and has about any features you can think of. The choice is a no-brainer for me :))
@David Mbugua You should not waste the time of you audience explaining the purpose of an .SRT file - since you use the term in your headline, one assume that YOU ASSUME that we are on th same page here.
I don't understand why bother watchng a video if people anyway don't need the sound. Speaking about myself: if I am watching a video, then I am too lazy to read! - Just a note. Otherwise, I hope I can learn how to do srt files.
It's easier for people that have english as second language understand what the person is saying in the video. More than 1 billion people speak english in the word, lot's of accents, so captions help a lot.
Sometimes I need to watch with low volume when people r present nearby, so captions needed in case I miss something. Also very useful when I can't understand a certain accent. And then for ppl whose English might not be that good, it's a lifesaver
Great advice! Subtitle edit is more than great. It is totally free, but its possibilities are endless. Really impressive.
Please help me how to calculate milliseconds for TH-cam subtitles.
I'm unaware of that. Kindly help
