    One day we are going to hang out in person, have cookies and tea, watch Pride and Prejudice, and craft the whole time. I've never heard of What Matters in Jane Austen puzzle book, that one sounds really intriguing! I'll add it to the TBR

      Yes!!! I can't wait... cookies, tea, Pride & Prejudice, and crafts, and maybe the boys can watch the kids. What Matters in Jane Austen is fantastic! I think you'd really enjoy it 💕

    So excited! I too am not a huge fan of Sense and Sensibility but I also find that I get more out of it with every reread. I think this year will be the third or fourth time reading it, and I'm sure I'm going to love it a little more this time too. I'm intrigued by that recipe book, I love reading about what people ate and drank in the past, and it sounds like it would be fun to try some of those recipes.
    Also that gimmicky Time Travel Jane Austen Retelling where she's the protagonist's neoghbout has just gone straight to my TBR shortlist. It sounds delightful.

      Yes! I am so excited for this year. We'll have to see if our appreciation for S&S increases with this read. I love learning about the history of food too! We should chat more about it in general sometime. 💕

    Your enthusiasm is wonderful! Thank you. Although little can compare to Jane Austen's writings, Hamerston Hall by Jane Eastbourne is good.

    Thanks for this video. I always love your announcement videos for this readathon! 😊 I just posted my own video for Jane Austen July. I really enjoyed Sanditon on PBS and was not expecting it to me anything other than a creative continuation. I actually preferred S2 to S1 and really looked forward to seeing how the Lord Babbington/Esther Denham story unfolded. Just fun! Have a great week!

      Thank you! Maybe I'll give Sanditon another chance. It's looking like it might be an August project at this point. I'm woefully behind in watching Booktube (and may never catch up), but I've added your video to my watch later list. Happy Jane Austen July! 💕📚

    Marissa, this will be my FIRST Jane Austen July! 🤗My plan is to reread Sense and Sensibility since ya'll are reading it as one of the readalongs. I actually read it in April/May of this year, but it was fractured reading which I think impacted my overall enjoyment of the novel. So, I feel like a reread is necessary before rating and reviewing it. I hope that makes sense. 😂 I am a Jane Austen newbie. Even though I have a couple of her novels and books related to Jane Austen, I had only read years ago Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (loved it 😛) prior to reading Sense and Sensibility this spring. I'm also considering listening to it on audiobook this time around and see if that helps as well. Not sure what else I'll be reading or watching throughout the month, but I'm excited to take part in this readathon. I appreciate all of the resources listed below as well as your recommendations.

    I’ll be reading Emma. It’s the last of Austen’s books I’ve yet to read. No doubt I’ll want to watch a screen adaptation or two once I’m done.

    • @BlatantlyBookish
      @BlatantlyBookish  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Emma is one of my favorites! Not everyone agrees with me though I have to admit. My favorite Emma screen adaptations are definitely the 2009 BBC version, Clueless, and Emma Approved. I'm not as big a fan of the Gwyneth Paltrow version or the 2020 version, but they're not bad either. If you can't pick, I just recommend watching them all lol. 😂

    Oh yay - S&S is the only Austen novel I haven't read. So I'll join in the readalong. Think I'll also plan to read either Lucy Worsley's Jane Austen at Home or What Matters in Jane Austen. We'll see if I get to anything else

    I recommend one I read a month ago by Syrie James - 'The Lost Memoirs of Jane Austen'. Thoroughly enjoyed this story/author and immediately went to purchase all her other books! ' Jane in Love' by Rachel Givney was a cute story about Jane Austen time-traveling.

    • @BlatantlyBookish
      @BlatantlyBookish  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think I picked up the book by Syrie James at a booksale recently, but then one of my friends said she didn't enjoy it. I actually DNF'd Jane in Love. It was sent to me as a proof copy a while back and I thought that the writing style was unimaginative, trite, and not representative of Austen from the very first page. I'm glad you enjoyed it though! I hope you have a wonderful Jane Austen July!

    • @JacquelineCaron
      @JacquelineCaron 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@BlatantlyBookish Jane in Love was a more entertaining read than anything else. I too agree with it not being a true representation of Jane Austen. The Syrie James books are also fiction - but the author notes in the book do lead you to believe she's done her research with some 'truths' in the story. I just love anything I can pick up that is Austen related. Have a great week! and thanks for being here :)

    Will try to catch you on some read along, I think I’ll focus on reading persuasion, listening to Northanger Abbey and watching the most recent Emma. Lucy Worsley is doing her Jane Austen talk near where I live and might possibly visit Bath (only short trip on train)

    There is a book called Martha Lloyd's Household Book which a number of authors have edited and annotated. Martha Lloyd was a close friend of Jane and Cassandra Austen, lived with them (possibly as a sor of housekeeper) and eventually became their sister-in-law. The book is a collection of recipes and notes about running the household.

    Looking forward to another Jane Austen July! I laughed at your Netflix "Persuasion" advice--it's only funny because it's such a dumpster fire train wreck of a movie. I knew I wasn't going to like it and didn't bother with it when it first came out, but I watched it last July and it exceeded my vexation expectations. That would make a good title for something: Vexation Expectations. 🙂
