    My husband and I cackled at your “lots of space for toys” comment!! I bought one wicker basket for toys then, somehow, 3 years later my “box” for toys is my entire living room. The advice I wished I got when my baby was younger, don’t be afraid to turn down second hand toys and clothes. People are so generous but it truly is overwhelming and unnecessary to have so much!!

    for my massive amount of novelty mugs, which I adore, but can get out of hand, I took a suggestion from another TH-camr, Jessica Braun. They cycle theirs in and out of storage, like a capsule wardrobe, so there are never too many in rotation, and there is more "novelty" in seeing old ones rotated into use. have loved doing it. never occurred to me to be embarrassed by them

      That's so smart! I only do this with my Christmas mugs but it does make me excited to use them every year. Doing this with the rest now too.

    That blanket would be so good as a repurpose piece! A teddy bear, or even a little stuffed toy rat. I had toys and blankets made from rags and they are so cherished ❤ Especially if you have photo's of the person/thing it came from; then you can hold the two side by side and see what it is now and the memory of what it once was

    • @lenac.4192
      @lenac.4192 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I was thinking the same thing, maybe cut out a piece and frame it with a picture of the rats and hang it somewhere, that way you keep the sentimental part of the blanket, but it also doesn't take up more space then it needs.

    I would put plastic cutlery in the car or in the picnic stuff. When you're on a picnic or on a road trip it's very easy to forget cutlery and very nice to just happen to have in your car for easy access. If you're stopping at a gas station to buy perhaps a yogurt, it's so annoying if you forget a spoon, ya know? So, I would save a few at least.

    I’m glad you didn’t get rid of too many of your mugs.:) It’s good to keep some things just because they make you happy. A lot of your time and energy will be taken up with baby, so when he or she is napping is your self care time. Take a nap yourself, read or do a hobby and have a cup of tea in one of your favorite mugs. Love all of your videos and thanks for sharing!❤️

    My brain throughout this video was "wow, her life is different than mine". Most of the moments had to do with having a large enough group of friends to have "hosting" items. Like, I am lucky if I have two friends that I can see in person without getting on a plane.

    I also used to love scented candles but slowly fell out of love with them as I got older, then went off them totally when I was pregnant. Even now I can't ever see me using them again because they seem too strong for the baby. Plus you have to be careful with essential oils around a baby.

    Don't know if it's helpful but when I lost my cat he had a favorite blanket that I didn't know what to do with but couldn't part with. I ended up using it as a 'wadding' alternative for a quilt I made which felt like it was honoring his memory

    Hi,I just went through my mugs even chipped ones. I decided to make them planters instead. They also make nice garden decorations😅. Also I am slowly switching to using wood,glass and bamboo kitchenware as I also feel that guilt with plastic waste.

    Lucy honestly thank you so much for this! I am not someone who naturally has good organizational skills and it's not a skill that I was taught when I was young. I'm an artist in the very messy chaotic kind of way and my whole house looks like that and it's so stressful.
    I've been trying to figure out how I was going to do it and in my mind I think I was expecting myself to go through my things and decide what was gonna stay or go AND organize AND clean as I went and your suggestion to break them into separate jobs is brilliant. I don't know if you got that from somewhere else but I am so appreciative of you doing it on your channel because I am also someone who does parallel work really well so if I see someone else doing it then it's easy for my brain to do it too.
    Now I feel like I can manage because I can just do one room or even one section of a room at a time and just sort. Not worry about cleaning it not worry about organizing it but just sort out the things that I don't need in the house and then do that next step and then the next step and breaking it down in a way that my brain clicked is like magic!

    I’ve been trying to do my house for years Lucy, don’t think I’ll do it before the next video! I started de cluttering a year before I moved, which was five years ago. I then sold the house and moved in with relatives for six months, then moved into my current house. It’s been a continuous declutter as I had less space each time. For some one with no money, I seem to be able to acquire a remarkable amount of ‘stuff’ from ouf of thin air. I admire your industry. If we were in the same country I’d invite you to come and do mine……

    Perfect video for the new year! Always love watching those.
    For decluttering I can highly recommend the MariKondo method. You seem to follow parts of it anyways. Her system has helped me so much. Because you're first decluttering then organising then clean. So you can tackle one thing at a time. And you're also organising by category, which helps massively to get aware of what you actually have.

      Hahaha honestly I seem much more out of breath in videos because quite often I'd have run up and down two flights of stairs to replace my camera battery right before filming 😂 It's not that bad in real life as far as I'm aware, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time before breathing becomes harder

    I never really experienced nesting (despite being a mum of 3), but I can relate to the "why on earth do I still have that/shouldn't that go?" Decluttering is very satifying. And it makes me rearrange things more logically. And with kids, more safely. No poisons and unsafe stuff in low cupboards. Up they go, out of reach!
    Btw, are you going to close your open staircase?

    I'm sure you already thought out this, but if you are getting ready for a baby make sure you also move away stuff out of reach for the baby. Alcohol should not be stored where a baby could get into it. Important paperwork and wedding stuff you would be upset about getting destroyed should also be kept somewhere out of reach. etc etc

    • @Loepsie
      @Loepsie  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We're not worried about baby proofing just yet. It'll take quite a while until baby's able to get into anything at all! But of course, once they start moving around we'll make sure everything is safe :)

    • @Elin.Noller
      @Elin.Noller 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@Loepsie Take it from me, it can catch you by surprise. And then you are left scrambling to babyproof and move everything WHILE keeping them away from things. My kid did everything several months ahead of schedule according to all the "expect this at this time" type of information. As in "Babies usually start walking sometime between about 10 and 18 months old." And I thought I had time, but he started walking at 7 and a half months. He rolled over at 2 and a half months, out of bed in the middle of the night even though I had padded the edge to create a hump/stop. Ask me how horrible I felt knowing I could have prevented it by preparing in advance ;) Doing it now ensures you don't have to worry about accidents. Better safe than sorry

      Eh 🤷🏻‍♀️, we have one that’s almost one. We just babyproof as we go along. Works fine for us. We did that with the oldest too. Children are different in development but also in character. For instance: we put the Christmas tree on top of a table this year because the oldest loved playing with the baubles but our youngest couldn’t care less. Might as well have kept it on the floor. You’ll do fine!

    Haven't finished watching the video but... If I went around to an acquaintance's house, I would LOVE to be served tea (or any other beverage) in a cute/quirky novelty mug! Rather than a more "grown up" one. I hope you didn't get rid of too many of those mugs
