  • My step by step project documenting my install of a Loncin RE250 LX166FMM-3 223cc OHC engine with 6 speed manual gearbox and balance shaft into my 2019 RPS Hawk 250. This is the 2nd video showing the first test drive after everything was installed. It's definitely going to need some tweaking, especially in the gearing. Let me know if you have any questions in the comments below. The engine can be purchased on eBay. Just search “Loncin 250”. Please like and subscribe! Thanks.

    The main difference with CB and CG would be overhead cams vs push rod type
    Overhead cams have the luxury to rev higher
    CB engines are usually DC operated vs AC operated for CG
    For off road use, one would make sense to have AC operated if you're in a remote place with a dead battery
    Overall, good job on your engine swap
    You are definitely on the right path
    You may want to upgrade your cams to high lift and wide LSA to get the full potential of your Loncin RE 250 aside from using a bore out 67 mm kit with racing clutch linings, and racing valves, springs and racing Clutch springs
    Once your break in period is done, that Loncin RE 250 revs to the tune of 14,000 rpms with a 34mm keihin jetted carbs
    Thank you for sharing your video

    An overhead cam engine is a much smoother and higher performing engine.

    Been waiting for that ! Thank you.
    I would break in the motor first before you change sprockets. I would also remove the catalytic converter from your exhaust and try to adjust the jetting of the carburetor. It is a little harder in the winter to mess with jetting .

    I have a Lifan Xpect which I am very happy with, but the one thing I would love to have is that 6th gear. If my engine ever blows, maybe I’ll get a wild hair and swap in the water cooled 6-speed Lifan engine that they put in the KPR’s.

    Also…..I have set up several XR200R motors, including my race bike and even with a cam, head porting and high comp. these bikes don’t make a whole lot more power than a stock motor. Don’t waste your money like I did. Enjoy!

    Just for comparison I have a klr 250. Has dual overhead cams and 11 to 1 compression ratio. Makes about 28 horsepower. It doesn't have much low end torque. Comes to life at about 6500rpm. Top speed is about 85. I've had it to 92 with a tail wind. You get the sprockets right you might get it to 75. Even with 28 horsepower you get a bit of a headwind and a hill and 75 is about all it's got. You get semis playing with you and you have nothing left get out of their way. There is only so much you can do with a 250.

My Klr 650 was not any stronger same exact sound and excel Except prob more top end but I never did more then 65 That’s as fast as I’m willing to brake hard. I put an iridium plug in mine though and tossed the factory and it came alive.

    I can appreciate upgrading to a six speed transmission, however, I could not justify the price of the engine upgrade. You are still running that restrictive stock exhaust system, it’s the equivalent of trying to breathe with a pillow over your face. I upgraded my exhaust, built a custom intake with a cone filter that locates The filter under the seat and incorporates the crank case breather hose. And re-jetted the carburetor, and it is almost as fast as my buddies Honda XR 250L. For the money you spent on that bike and engine upgrade package, you could have had a DRZ 400 which is 100 times better than any hawk could ever be.

    • @JackofAllMasterofNone
      @JackofAllMasterofNone  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I respect your opinion but disagree with you. For instance, the exhaust, which I modified, flows just as good as any aftermarket one. I didn't build this to make a race bike. I made a super reliable, fun 50/50 dual sport that can keep me out of trouble on 55mph roads. I stated in my other videos that it wasn't worth the expense for most people, but for me it was worth it for the project alone and for the TH-cam channel.

      @@JackofAllMasterofNone And I do understand, that making the swap it was partially about content for your channel, and we appreciate you being the guinea pig on that experiment. At the end of the day, if you’re happy with it, and you had a good time doing it, that’s what it’s all about! Thanks for a respectful debate👍
      PS: what’s your top speed now with the extra gear? I use my bike for mostly trail riding, I used my phone for GPS the other day, I had the bike wide-open for almost 5 minutes straight on a flat Road, struggled to hit 60 miles an hour, my friends xr250 would walk by me like I was standing still, a bit embarrassing and frustrating, but I really enjoy the way the Bike handles on the trails so for the price I really can’t complain

    Wow! Nice progress you got there sir!
    Im about to take a big bore kit to my xr125l but in the long term i think swaping engine could be better than big bore kit. Cause in bad case the new engine broke down i still got the old engine too.
    Just wondering should i use the CG 200-250 engine from zongshen and loncin (15-17hp) to get a plug n play swap or the cb250-f (23-25hp) engine? May get a lot of work to fit the cb250-f into 125 frame, i calcute the stock one and the new one there is a small size between them.
    People may said i should sold my bike to get the new one but hey. I love to play with my bike not to buy to ride then.
    Thank if you can solved my question between taking a plug n play or another small frame work to take a huge more hprs.
    Before getting your answer im modify the swing arm and the front forks!

      Assuming the batteries and controller and motor are good the only way to get more power is with a better controller and / or motor. It would also be very beneficial to step up to a 48volt system but you would have to upgrade your controller and motor to do that anyway.

      Or are they just poorly designed.

    • @DFX2KX
      @DFX2KX 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danielhaskins519 it's a motor design issue. A nicer carb would help a little perhaps, but Carbs are Carbs at the end of the day, you can't squeeze water from a stone as they say. There are adjustments you can do inside said carb (needle and jet adjustments) that can help a lot. Any more then that would require that there be a performance scene for these with things like (in this engine's case) new camshafts and/or heads.
