- My step by step project documenting my install of a Loncin RE250 LX166FMM-3 223cc OHC engine with 6 speed manual gearbox and balance shaft into my 2019 RPS Hawk 250. Pretty much nothing matched up, so I had to make custom motor mounts and piece the wiring harnesses together. If you want to tackle the project yourself, this video should be a pretty good guide on what lays ahead. I had 1 major issue with the clutch linkage being defective. I've done 2 Chinesium engine swaps on BOTH my 1972 Honda CB100s.
One Lifan 200CC OHV and one 250CC OHC Shineray engine.
I absolutely LOVE THEM!!
If I had known about the 6 speed Loncin, I would've done that swap.

I would be very concerned about zero clearancing the from of that motor. Over time, the expansion and contraction of heat cycling, the vibration, impact shocks, etc. could very well end up cracking the case(s). Nevertheless, very cool project and I hope it works great for you and brings you joy and pride. Thanks for sharing.
It's a good thing to have the knowledge of the wiring harness . This is the first time I've seen a wire harness swap to another wire harness compatible and very similar .you made it look so easy . I'm glad you didn't give up on your clutch issue that was something new to me also. I've never owned or worked on a motorcycle but now I could see what I would be getting into. Thanks for sharing the knowledge 🏍️

I do know that Loncin manufactures the engines that go in BMW 650s and the twins that go in BMW 750s and 800s, among others. To a different spec, obvs.

Clutch plates are usually soaked in oil before they are fitted they can stick together a s Unit . Roll start and slam into 2nd usually frees them .

Nothing is "worth it" in the custom world, but if it's worth it to you is what matters!! I want one of these bikes, maybe get a bit crazy and swap a 250 ninja engine in it or something, I'd like to build a kinda super moto/cafe racer type bike based on one, maybe swap a DR650 engine into it, just depends on what us available when ever if I ever get one, I do have a 200cc China bike, i intended to do something with, but life put that off the stove all together, never mind the back burner!! But I have wanted a DR 650 since about 1993
Thanks for the video, I'm swapping a CG 229 (Hawk engine) 4 spd w/ reverse into my Ice Bear PST150 (GY6)Trike, looks like a lil vasoline and a shoehorn will do the trick since you showed me which wires were which. Wish they'd put a wiring diagram in with the engines.
Thanks for sharing you videos fellow southeast Ohio hawk rider here and I've had my hawk 2 1/2 years now and did all mods available, I've put 7,000+ mile on it so far and love it but I've wanted to do a OHC engine for a while now! My wife has a crf230f and having them side by side I've noticed it can be done, too bad I can't steal hers lol. You saved me a lot of R&D so I appreciate it be safe out there!
It was a cool upgrade and as it breaks in, I'm gaining horsepower but I'm not sure it was worth the expense.but yes a crf230f drivetrain is basically the same as the loncin. In fact I've been swapping over Honda parts lately.

I have 350 miles on my hawk dlx and im having problems with slipping and the clutch makes noise when the enigine is reved
You should change those rear hud bushings, those with rubber and metal are the worst, when the rubber wears out too much the inner metal cylinder can cut the bolts of the rear sproket, it happend to me like 2 times until i changed to ones made of some kind of plastic, that was 3 years ago and have no issues at all and the bolts keep fitting like they were new
Do you know where to find a stator side cover cap and gasket for the hawk?

I never mess with the front sprocket' Try putting the old one back on an play with the rear, like a 49 from a 52 per say, and so forth, would be very noticeable in 6th. But try staying with the rear till it's broken in. Idk

Yeah the largest big bore I found is 235cc so only an increase of 5cc the best mods for this engine is def going to be the head port and cam.

The yamaha xg250 clones aka magician 250 aka triker 250 now come with the lincon 6 speed engine. Total cost is about 1800usd for the xg250 clone with lincon engine, sounds like a deal, I might buy one.

It's more powerful throughout the rev range, but still underpowered. Not a lot faster either. Top speed is around 70mph.
You could have swapped the stator with the engines the stators are the same I upgraded a GY6 49cc scooter and the stock 150 stator connection was different so I did a little looking at the difference between the 150 stator and the 49cc stator the only difference was the connection. So I took off the 150cc stator from the 150cc engine and put the 49cc stator on the 150cc engine and it's still running today I did the project 6 months ago it's a fast little scooty do
I think your doing good I looking at doing something similar to my TaoTao TBR7. Before I try the new engine I want to do a turbo kit.

But looking on the bright side, if it totally gets skrued up in the process, it isn't going to cost too much to start over with a new bike! But then how bad could it be! A grinder and welder, (+ a bit of effort) can fix about anything!!

I got an identical engine to yours except mines silver and not loncin branded but mine didn’t come with a voltage regulator rectifier am I able to use the stock one on my TBR7?
No. The stock tbr uses a AC rectifier and this engine uses a DC system

I just picked one up used. Lot of valve clatter/noise coming from the top end. I already changed the oil. Anything I can adjust or do I need a top end rebuild probably? Thx for any info, sweet bike. 👍👍

GREAT! job - This project was more intense than I would have imagined. I started a thread on chinariders.net about this (liferider) trying to understand what the options were. YOU DID IT!
I opted to just mill and port a new Head that I have just started on. Noticed your new engine has what looked like a EGR port on the new engine and it is on the new head that I ordered from Brozz250.com. My Hawk DLX does not have this machined. Do I just cap it off or should I do more? any help?

That’s awesome you did an engine swap. Was that the clutch plate lifter you had to swap out at the end? I’d really love to see how the new engine is going
You shouldn't need to swap anything out. The engine I bought just had a defective part in it.

Question...I bought the zongshen counter balanced 6speed version.same thing basically But my question is: my regulator is exact same as yours with the 3 yellow wire but my yellow wires from engine are only 2..should I just tie 2 of the 3 yellow regulator wired together and plug engine yellow wired into it?? Does it matter what 2 I splice??
No you cannot do that. You may have a DC stator and your system is AC on a hawk
@JackofAllMasterofNone yea, engine is dc , hawk is ac..those yellow wires are supposedly interchangeable..any recommendations on what to do? Do I need to utilize that 3rd yellow wire off the stator? Can I nit just plug the 2 yellow engine wires into the 3 yellow wire stator and it be good?
Does anybody know what the gear ratios are? I would love 6 gears on my Brozz.
Gear ratios are the same as the brozz / hawk 250 with an additional OD gear
@@JackofAllMasterofNone thanks! So it has 2 overdrives. My buddy has a Yamaha xt 225 and the 6 speed makes a big difference when geared properly. Not sure his sprocket sizes but my Brozz 250 top speed is about the same but he can get there faster. I had a rock put a hole in my engine case so I am thinking about upgrading to 6 speed. I love the bike. I purchased a CSC motorcycles tt250 skid plate to prevent future issues. Engine isn't leaking luckily. Hole is in front of a bolt that sandwiches the halves together.
Any thoughts on taking a hawk and cbr or klx engine and putting it on the hawk chassis

@@MrRussianAk The problem will be the frame clearance. This CB engine was about the max. I thought about trying a liquid cooled CRF250F or the new 300 but I doubt it would go without major modifications.
By any chance that the engine you bought RE250 can be upgraded to a higher displacement?
It can be but you need a bigger cylinder and adapt the timing chain, you would need to find a compatible cylinder or modify the one it has

It is just a universal ATV seat cover that you can buy on eBay or Amazon
The keihin carbs are a lot better than the stock china carbs.
Keihen carbs comes stock on a lot of Harley Davidson's

Great info here! I live in Honduras and ride a rebranded Loncin SX2 which is equipped with the RE250. Have you done a valve adjustment? If so, what clearances did you use? The bike was purchased from a dealership but they didn't supply a manual!
I did do a valve check. I believe I used 0.003 for both.
How much was the shipping and handling on the engine???
When I bought it it was a free shipping listing on eBay. Not sure if that is still the case.

No. I doubt it. Completely different design

The price on eBay went up big time recently. Probably due to everything that is going on right now. Hopefully they will go back down soon.
@@JackofAllMasterofNone so true... I use 17F/40R on my Hawk. I always carry a set of tools for every vehicle...it ain't different with the Hawk. So when I do some mixed on/off roading. 17/40 is good. You gotta keep on working the clutch though ahhahaha. But when it gets a bit too hard... I use the 15. I can totally swap it on spot within 5 minutes. So I always keep the 17/40 a bit towards the tight side for me a my big camping bag... So when Im commuting or have someone else with me it doesn't get too tight. The adjustable rear shock helps alot with that. And when I put the 15F withthe40 it gets a lil on the loose side of things... Not loose enough to get noisy or dangerous... And with the 17 not tight enought to get noisy(click click click sound) or dangerous either... There's always a middle ground for everything. As well as my 2 way system.intake and exhaust. Quiet or noisy(performance) anyways the 17/40 is keeping 65mph at 6500 I can push it a lil bit and go faster but I dont see the need. It's pretty confortable smooth ride. Anyways... That 6gear engine would be perfect with the kick start

They should. But to be 💯 I'm not too familiar with older Hawk 250s. If there was any difference.

I thought the hawk 250 came with knobbier tires, those look like the tires off the new 250 dlx fuel injected Hawk
It does come with knobby tires. I replaced them with 50/50 shinko 700s.
You couldve got a really nice used japanese dual sport bike for how much you spent on the hawk and that engine

The RE250 is good but I found a 4 valve 250cc engine that claims 25hp over stock... the funny part is I did so many name researches that the cg25 is actually renamed buy shineray so then I did some research and shineray engine department and they have a 250cc engine that's the one I'm talking about but it looks way too big for the chassis
That would be a cool engine choice but you would need to study the dimensions carefully. The RE250 had zero clearance as is. I would imagine that the size of the DOHC valve cover area would be an issue with clearance. I did look at this as an option.

Did this engine come stock on a Chinese bike? Maybe the brozz?
It comes on the Loncin LX250GY-3(SX2). It is also basically the same engine that is used in South America on one of the Zanella dualsport bikes.
