    *TIME STAMPS* Casey, please Pin this: I'm gonna come back to this video every once in a while, & need a little refresher:
    0:37 Alt + Scroll = Zoom Tutorial
    0:57 Shift + Z = Fit Project to Timeline
    3:05 1. Ctrl + A = Select All
    2. Alt + Y = Select All AFTER Playhead
    3. Ctrl + Alt + Y = Select All BEFORE playhead
    5:14 Ctrl + Shift + = Swap Clips
    6:14 Ctrl + Shift + V = Paste Insert
    6:22 HOLD Ctrl + Shift = Paste Insert
    Some good pro tips after, too.

    When using "alt + scroll" for zooming it is important to have checked option "Zoom around mouse pointer" in "View" in the top dropdown menu.

    As always, thanks for the great video! I just switched to Resolve from Premiere and am happy I did. I don't think the transition would be nearly as easy if not for your great videos. It's mind blowing the tools and resources that are available now. I started using nonlinear systems in 2005 with Avid and stayed with that until about 2014 when I switched to Premiere. Frustrated with Premiere, I was thinking of going back to Avid but didn't see any massive improvements -- I could be wrong, Like I said, I got a frustrated and didn't give it a proper chance. Either way, Resolve has been a joy to use so far. Thanks again for the content!

    I'm so happy to know about Shift + Z!! That's super helpful for me as I'm editing longer videos. Lots of awesome tips here, thanks! My one remaining question is, why don't more numbers show up on the timeline (minutes, seconds, etc...) and is there a way to fix that? When I zoom in I would like to see more in terms of time on the timeline (I'm not sure I'm using the right terms here...), but it just doesn't show much at all and that makes it really difficult for me to tell where I am in the timeline, or how long a clip is.

  • @leroycasterline1122

    Very helpful. At 3:35, when I tried to use Alt-Y to select items to the right of the playhead, regardless of the track on which I had selected the first item, items were only selected on my video track (V1). Looking closely, I saw that you had 'Auto Track Select' enabled on most of your tracks; I only had it enabled on V1. Disabling it on V1 and enabling it on the other tracks was the fix. Even better, I could use Auto Track Select to control which tracks were affected. Nice!

    I have seen a number of places where you have put an "adjustment clip" into a timeline. It would be great to understand more about what this "adjustment clip" does for us and how to use it.

    • @gregmonforton4103
      @gregmonforton4103 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Quite simply, it's a layer that effects any video UNDER it in the timeline. So instead of adjusting colour to individual clips you can apply the colour to an adjustment clip and it will effect all the clips under it.

    • @richardrejmer8721
      @richardrejmer8721 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Imagine an adjustment clip is like a color filter you might put over a picture and then staple the filter in place and attach it to the picture.
      Then you don't need to make changes directly to the PICTURE, but if you change the filter color for example, from red to green - and it changes what the picture looks like to your eyes, without doing anything directly to the picture.
      An adjustment layer is like that - but even more powerful, because it will effect EVERYTHING below it (if there are multiple clips in your timeline)
      An adjustment layer can change many, many different properties of the clip - NOT just color. For example, you can set up a dynamic zoom as an adjustment layer, then save it in a library and use it whenever you need a quick zoom to happen. th-cam.com/video/gy0BEcM6o_E/w-d-xo.html
      Very handy tool

    I watched this video and instantly forgot 90%. So I went back and took notes. Here is a little Cheat Sheet for you:
    Shift + Z -> zoom out to fit the entire timeline; hit it again to go back to the same zoomed-in view
    Cmd + Shift + L -> link/unlink the video and audio
    Lock / Unlock tracks using the button in the Video/Audio tracks -> any changes to the timeline won't apply to that track (very useful for audio tracks)
    Cmd + A -> selects all clips in your timeline and bins, and it also works for most applications (finder, word, notion, you name it)
    opt + Y -> select all clips to the RIGHT of the playhead
    cmd + Y -> selects all clips to the LEFT of the playhead
    T -> for trim edit
    change clip colour -> right click on the clip> clip colour> select colour
    Cmd + shift + ( dragging the clip with the cursor, or using arrows < >) -> re-arrange the order of the clips in the timeline, the arrows did not work for me though
    Cmd + shift + v -> paste insert clip (creates space in the timeline for the pasted clip)
    Alt + drag clip with cursor -> creates a copy of the clip

    I don’t use it anymore (because of color) but boy do I miss a real timeline. FCPX solves all the problems of syncing. All the problems of selecting or locking “tracks”. Mixing formats. Mixing frame rates. FrameIO integration. Output. ALL better. It’s just the color that sucks. When they bring that bup to speed and integrate a direct link to Logic, it’s bye bye Resolve.
