No FX loop on the 20rt. In reality....you don't really need one. If you want to switch from dirty (distorted) channel to clean channel without using your hands....yes you'll want a footswitch. They aren't expensive. Rock on!

I have the 20w and the truth is that i regret not having bought the 35 at the time. the amp responds very well to playing dynamics, you can go to clean only playing softer. The only problem is the size of the speaker. It sounds a bit "in a box", as seen in the video. So im between the question of the 35RT or micro terror with a cabinet of 12 speaker
I understand. That's why I always recommend listening to both side by side in a store if possible. Maybe you can test the 35rt against the micro terror. And it's amazing how much difference a speaker can make. Thanks for watching!
Bought the 20rt a week ago. I too noticed the amp's responsiveness. My old amp is a Fender Frontman 10g, which was... let's say it was a mistake. I got into a band last year, and I ended up ditching it (even for practice) in favour of my laptop running Guitar Rig, which let me keep control over my tones and effects. We run on shoestring budgets here in Sri Lanka, where you'll often find guitarists running a single multi-effect unit straight into the mixer (yes, no amp). But yeah, that setup is a real hassle, especially when it comes to practicing and monitoring yourself in a live setting. Also, Guitar Rig's big amp collection can really lead to sounding like you have an identity crisis. I feel like that's a problem you can run into with modelling amp's as well. I mean, I do like to get shoegaze-levels of trippy with effects, but I feel an actual physical amp that you can learn the ins and outs of is integral to keeping your sound grounded. I still plan on using Guitar Rig as my effects platform for now though.
Orange crush 20Rt was my first amp. Just got my first pedal which is a fuzz pedal. Unfortunately I’m considering getting a tube amp because as much as I like it, the crush doesn’t sound right with the fuzz pedal.
This was a great and really helpful review, I just bought a 35rt and the cleans are nice but the gain on the dirty channel sounds really weird.. almost raspy. Do you think I need to let the speaker break in or maybe I got a bad example and need to return? Thanks for the review again
@@unknownuser38 haha yeah still have it, never really got used to the dirty tones though but i play mostly clean anyway. I want to buy a 20rt or the 35rt, which one of the two have a brighter tone on the dirty channel with the gain up? I have the impression from the demos that the 35 have a more muddy distortion and the 20 is more boxy but brighter
Excelent demo! I tested this amp yesterday and I really liked the clean, it's simply great. On the dirty channel, with the gain set to high, I found the tone too fuzzy. I know this is the authentic Orange tone, but it's too much for me, especially on the lead parts (to be honest, the rhythm sounded great). Any ideas on how to achieve a non-fuzzy high-gain lead tone? Thanks in advance.
Hi Barbu. The speaker in these amps tend to need to be "broken in"....meaning they may sound a bit fuzzy, but after you use it for a while, that fuzzy sound should not be so prominent. If you have a favorite distortion/OD pedal, try that through the clean channel. Thanks for watching!
Just a hobby player; but I will say this; I have 2 LT25 Mustangs; I had an id core blackstar; and sold it; I had the 35 Orange; for bedroom play it was waaaaay too much power; don't go over 20 watts for your hobby/practice speaker; if you're just going to be a hobbyist get the LT25 or an id core; you don't need all those pedals everything is built into the practice amp. All those pedals cost 7 times more than amp itself. Just get the all in one amp if you're just starting out; Find the effects and amp models that you like; and if you get into one or two; and you get good enough to justify the cost; buy the model that you like the most out of the samples.
Nice demo. The 20 RT does well for its size but the 35's larger speaker inevitably makes it sound better. I have a 35RT and did have a CR60C, the even bigger brother but the 60w was just too heavy to comfortably carry. I'm planning to make a larger cabinet for my 35RT and get a 12" speaker as the smallish cab and 10" speaker are still just a tiny bit boxy.
I'm torn between buying an Orange crush 35rt or an Ampeg BA112 50w. Hmmm...I have the Crush 20. I definitely need a bigger speaker. The 8" just won't do for my down tuned Sludgy Doomy riffs.
There are videos on TH-cam that show how to install a DIY speaker output jack to these amps so you can connect to a bigger, better speaker cabinet. Thinking about doing that to my Crush 20. (The only thing I can't decide is if I should do that first, or get another amp I've been wanting first. Don't have the money for both.) But either way I am going to install one so I can connect mine to a cabinet with a 12" celestion (or maybe a 2x12; not sure yet.)
There are some big differences between them Thomas. If you're just jamming at your home and have no inclination to go further, then the Orange. If you're looking for something to jam with a band then...the Peavey or maybe something else. Thanks for watching!
I have the 20rt, and just got a big muff. Do you have to run it on the clean channel to make the pedal sound decent? I’m new to pedals and I could just be doing something wrong, but if I play on the dirty channel it constant feedback and just sound like shit
I have just yesterday tried to revive my Little Big Muff and tested it directly on clean channel. It sounds ok but with all Big Muff’s they are too muddy for my liking when compared with my Analogman Sun Face NKT275 which is always on. The answer is yes, clean channel
Well I'm planning to buy my first electric guitar(fender player strat). I need a clean amp under 300 dollars that will take multifx unit well. Please suggest me one. You’re so right. The 20 is a lot more boxes thus making it a much better candidate as a home practice so rather than a band practice or gigging (I don’t think anyone would gig with the 20 without a specific goal) so unless you’re trying to sound boxy I don’t think the 20 will be a good idea in a band context, - it’s not a bad amp I can think of uses for it and in general boxy type amps are great for shoegazing or grunge gazing but that’s my personal opinion.. The 35 has a much stronger presence and a lot more depth than the 20, for playing in a band practice I’d say the 35 is a greater option, I might be bias because I already have a Marshall mg10 and I practice with it daily and when I started playing with a drummer it doesn’t keep up, I was at the store today and tried the 35, I am an inch away from getting it.

Nice Sounds. Thinking to with the 35RT for the effects loop
Thank you and right on. I'm sure you'll love it. Thanks for watching!
Orange crush 20Rt was my first amp. Just got my first pedal which is a fuzz pedal. Unfortunately I’m considering getting a tube amp because as much as I like it, the crush doesn’t sound right with the fuzz pedal.
If it was me, I'd take that fuzz pedal to a guitar store and try out different amps. Thanks for watching!
This was a great and really helpful review, I just bought a 35rt and the cleans are nice but the gain on the dirty channel sounds really weird.. almost raspy. Do you think I need to let the speaker break in or maybe I got a bad example and need to return? Thanks for the review again
thanks for watching. Yes the speaker needs to be broken in. The more you play it...the better it will sound.
@ymdmy hey do you still have the 35 rt? or did you end up getting something else
@@unknownuser38 haha yeah still have it, never really got used to the dirty tones though but i play mostly clean anyway. The cleans are beautiful almost like a tube amp, but dirty it’s still too much rasp for me past halfway on the knob, even after breaking in. I’d definitely recommend trying it out in a guitar store before purchasing at least, but i like it
I absolutely love my 35rt!!! Had it since it was first released. Both channels are 👍🏽
Awesome
Great demo! As far as I know the 20rt has a 8 inch speaker, not 5?
Thanks and yes....my mistake. The 20rt has an 8" speaker. Rock on!
Though not a great deal of difference, I too like the sound of the 35rt best.
@MrAlsfan5 Yes very similar. The speaker size is really what makes any difference I think. The 20rt has a 5" and the 35rt a 10".
@@RockHardRiffs This is an example of why I like this channel. Though I will not be purchasing a new amp, you may have helped someone who is, make a decision.
@@MrAlsfan5 thank you! I've made a few videos about these amps. I've come to find they're pretty popular and have had lots of positive reactions. I do hope the video helps make decisions!
@@RockHardRiffs While most people know more about guitar and amps than I do, there is always someone out there who will have learned something today. AND, you teach and never preach. That's one of the main differences between you and a few of the others. I have watched a few others and a few are pretty good, but it's human nature to stay with what we are comfortable with.
I do hope this helps for those who are interested. I don't like to be preached to..so I don't preach I guess? I'm aware of some b.s. artists and shills out there....and some genuine musicians who are offering an objective point of view. I appreciate your critique and input as always!
I want to buy a 20rt or the 35rt, which one of the two have a brighter tone on the dirty channel with the gain up? I have the impression from the demos that the 35 have a more muddy distortion and the 20 is more boxy but brighter
I think the best thing to do lux...is to compare them both in person. Thanks for watching!
Great stuff brother ..
Thank you Gary!
@@RockHardRiffs Thanks a lot and keep up the good work!
@@barbudanieled You're very welcome and thank you my friend

@Rick Cadger thank you and that sounds cool. Good luck!
Dude, I like that song “Faster Traffic” nice hooks!
Thanks man! Love your nickname...lol
@@RockHardRiffs thanks 😂
I'm torn between buying an Orange crush 35rt or an Ampeg BA112 50w. Hmmm...I have the Crush 20. I definitely need a bigger speaker. The 8" just won't do for my down tuned Sludgy Doomy riffs.
If you're able...I'd go to a guitar store and put them side by side and compare them. Thanks for watching!
I’m crossed between a peavey bandit 112 and an orange 35rt
There are some big differences between them Thomas. If you're just jamming at your home and have no inclination to go further, then the Orange. If you're looking for something to jam with a band then...the Peavey or maybe something else. Thanks for watching!
I have the 20rt, and just got a big muff. Do you have to run it on the clean channel to make the pedal sound decent? I’m new to pedals and I could just be doing something wrong, but if I play on the dirty channel it constant feedback and just sound like shit
hey taco. yes ...use the clean channel with overdrive pedals. I use the strymon Sunset.
Rock Hard Riffs will do! Thanks for the fast answer
@@tacopepe2019 you bet. that was great timing. I was just sitting here..lol. Rock on
I have just yesterday tried to revive my Little Big Muff and tested it directly on clean channel. It sounds ok but with all Big Muff’s they are too muddy for my liking when compared with my Analogman Sun Face NKT275 which is always on. The answer is yes, clean channel
Great playing dude
Thank you!
Both sound great!
thanks!
Hello can u pls tell how well does the 20RT take modulation pedals like delays & reverbs? Planning to buy one. Thanks.
It does just fine. Good luck with it and rock on!
@@RockHardRiffs thank you man for your prompt reply, i am buying one. Cheers!
Hello! I am planning on getting a Orange Crush 20 do you think it can play some Hendrix?
Hi Kenny. It can handle most anything you want to put thru it from Hendrix to ambient music. Good luck and rock on!
@@RockHardRiffs thank you!
Thanks for the Demo. So they basically sound the the same, except the 10" speaker has some more volume and depth, which makes sense.
You're welcome and thanks for watching. Yep that's pretty much it!
35 sounds better deeper tone but both still amazing
can i use pedals effect on cr 20rt??cause on the cr20rt box its stated no loop and pedals
Yes....they both take pedals very well. I don't use the FX loop on the 35rt anyway....no need. Rock on!
The 20RT is brighter with more attack and presence than the 35RT which sounds lazy or sedated on clean channel. 35RT has bigger sound dirty/gain
It's the speaker(s). Thanks for watching!
Hiii i have a question.I have the 20 rt and i dont know if i can use pedals cause im the back of it says i can plug only a cannel switch
If you mean is there an FX loop...no. That doesn't mean you can't use pedals...just no loop. Thanks for watching!
Can i use the 20rt in a gig? If mic 🎤 will it do a good job?
Yes, not a problem....if you like the sound of the amp.
Did you use the pedal in front of the amp for the 35RT, or use the fx loop?
everything is in front of the amp. thanks for watching!
How important is an fx loop? not that much?
since nobody is taliking about it.
Hello im planning on buying my first pedal which is probably going to be Blackstar LT Metal pedal would you say the crush 20 is good with it?
it should be good....but I'd see if I could try it in a store first.
Great demo! And thanks a lot for the video. May I ask what volume is 35RT and the 20RT?
Thank you John. They are both at room volume or 9:00ish as you look at the volume dial.
Well I'm planning to buy my first electric guitar(fender player strat). I need a clean amp under 300 dollars that will take multifx unit well. Please suggest me one. I'm really confused as there are way too many amps available for that price range. I just want the clean fender tone and I'm thinking of using reverb/delay/od with the multifx unit. My budget is tight so I can't go for a tube amp now. Hope you'll help me find one.
Dipjyoti Chakravarty have a look at the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, Boss Katana or Orange Crush 35 rt Those would be my recommendations. Good luck 🎸
@@RockHardRiffs Thank you so much. Btw Fender hot rod deluxe is too expensive for my budget. What's your review on the fender champion amps?
Dipjyoti Chakravarty the Hot Rod Deluxe is under $300 as you stated I do believe. Have you checked out your local store?
so can someone please explain the difference between 2 chanel vs the other option in the 35rt
sorry it took so long to reply. I just found your comment. It has a 'clean' channel and a 'dirty' channel.
Sounds good have a good effect
Thanks for watching!
Is that constant hum in high gain at idle time normal? I recently bought a 20RT and kinda worried about it. Let me know, thank you.
Yes. The old-old timers call it “a part of their tone”…lol. You’ll get used to it. Thanks for watching 🎸
@@RockHardRiffs thanks for replying. when i touch metal (Bridge, String, 1/4 jack) part of the guitar the amp is silent or when i make the volume knob 0 its all good. I understand your point. But is there any earthing / grounding issues on my setup? Just asking for health concerns.
Best regards!
@@melodicshredder5834 without being there, it's really hard to say. Have you called the store where you bought it?
@@RockHardRiffs i bought online,,, there's no shock just eliminates the high gain hum when i touch the guitar. I setup my noise gate in a way there's no noise/hum when i engage pedals but if i force to eliminate the amp hum the gate kills my tone! I called electrician to check my house if there's issue he said everything is good.
@@melodicshredder5834 well my friend...I'm not an electrician so if this doesn't help...try calling an amp repair place or where you bought it. Have you tried moving your stuff to another outlet? In another room? Do you have fluorescent lighting? Are you using single coil pickups? You could be having a 60 cycle hum issue. It could be due to a lack of shielding in your guitar. Best of luck amigo!
I think the only difference is the cab/speaker/watts size. I can’t see orange putting a lot of money into different electronics for these.

Great demo I think the 35RT for me not completely sure
@Stafford's Music Studio thanks! It is a close call.

Are you stil thinking???
Awesome video liked keep up the good work and stay connected plus sorry for the disturbance 🙏🏼

Would the 35rt be loud enough for gigs?

@@RockHardRiffs thanks for the quick reply! This fits my every need if it works for small gigs somehow...
@@rajikula8085 I played with a live drummer once with it and he completely drowned me out. Part of the reason is it being solid state. Tube amps cut through a mix better for a bunch of technological reasons. Good luck with that 🤙🏻

Is this amp need amp sim and cab sim for better sound?
johnson sam not at all. You hear pretty much how it sounds in the video. You be the judge 🎸
The 20 RT has a cleaner, thinner sound. It is one of the best 8 inch with the DV Mark Litlle Jazz. They both sound like a 10 inch.
So you can’t loop on the 20rt?
No…no fx loop. Thanks for watching 🎸
@@RockHardRiffs did you try a loop station? I want to get the amp for price, but not if I can’t make a loop. I was seeing bundles online for this amp with a Boss RC-1 loop station.
@@peachyokay4595 ok...so you mean a looper...not an fx loop. yes you can use a looper on most any amp, but not a modeling amp so much. the thing with loopers...if you want to loop a clean tone with a distorted tone, you'll need a distortion pedal. everything will sound the same without it. I personally recommend the digitech trio band creator + looper. It can be a little complicated, but it's like an entire band in a box. the boss looper is great too. good luck!

6:45 might be your answer. For that early Maiden type tone

No they don't. Thanks for watching!
There are videos on TH-cam that show how to install a DIY speaker output jack to connect an external speaker cabinet. Thinking about doing that to my Crush 20 so I can hook it to a cab with a 12" celestion. I'll bet it would sound awesome, & besides, some of the more expensive Orange cabinets use celestions.
I can buy a new 20RT or for the same price a very lightly used 35RT... I think the answer is a given....

Damn that 20rt is very loud already at 12 oclock
These little amps pack a big punch 🎸
I have a 20rt, should I upgrade to a boss katana 100?
But I only play in my bedroom. Is it worth the upgrade?
@Capt Fantastic Love your name....great album. Only you can answer what you want....are looking for....or can afford, etc. I don't know how far along you are, but when I first started, I used a used home made amp with car speakers in it....and it sounded fantastic. If you're happy with the 20rt...then why bother? If you aren't....I'd go to your local guitar store and try out a Katana if they have them. I'd also ask if there's something else they might suggest. Good luck and rock on!
Answering incase you're still wondering and incase anyone else is. The Katana and Orange Crush are two totally different beasts. I own both. If you want maximum versatility, yes indeed go for the Katana. They sound fantastic. If you can afford it though, keep both because they both do things the other can't.
Wrath what does the 20rt do better? Also it being fully analog, does that mean it will take pedals better // or just more dynamic?
@@KillBill2114 I also own the boss katana 100 and the orange 35rt, and I actually believe that the orange sounds better to me. I don't use any distortion pedals and still get some good versatility with the orange. The boss katana 100 is a really good amp, it's just a lot bigger and I personally prefer the orange.
I'm betting the 35 is louder
15 watts louder to be exact...lol.
Each of those Strymons costs as much as the 35RT 😋
Pretty much yep. I have a video coming in the somewhat near future on that very subject. Thanks for watching!
35rt has more presence.
The 35 has a much stronger presence and a lot more depth than the 20, for playing in a band practice I’d say the 35 is a greater option,
I might be bias because I already have a Marshall mg10 and I practice with it daily and when I started playing with a drummer it doesn’t keep up, I was at the store today and tried the 35, I am an inch away from getting it.
is it worth the price difference though?
@azkia08 yes , very much so
Are you demo`ing the amps or your pedal board this is useless to me.
