    Thanks for the review! Will the Zhiyun Crane plus fit in the 20L? Its the biggest thing i have that im concerned about and im only around 5’8 and worried that the 30l would be too big. I also will most likely pack the mavic (wtout the flymore bag), a mirrorless camera with maybe a 18-105 lens plus a gopro and my 15inch mbp.

      Peak Design Everyday Carry 20 is too small and over priced. When I have the A6500 and the Zhiyun Crane Plus assembled, it’s not practical to place it inside the Peak Design backpack, instead, I’ve been placing the assembled A6500/Crane into a separate Lowepro Sling Bag III for run and gun. Still in Beijing, as I write this comment. 12/8/2018

    I loaded my tripod on the side I do not want to open. Quick and easy way for me to know DO NOT OPEN! I was gifted the 20L I exchanged it for the 30L and then exchanged it back to the 20L. Majority of the time its an everyday bag to/from work and daily stuff. For that the 30L is too big. When I travel I would rather make the 20L work and It will help me to carry the necessities and not carry clutter. Thanks!

    I plan on getting the 30L and am a little concerned with it being too big. I have M4/3 set up but I plan to grow grow my gear so I want a bag that will accommodate that. I know this is long over due, but do you think the 20L could hold a A7III with Tamron 28-75 attached and then the original mavic pro? I am short as well so I think the 30 might look too large on me

    • @GoingAwesomePlaces
      @GoingAwesomePlaces  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I think that'll work. The Mavic Pro will sit on the bottom level and you'd put the A7III + lens on the middle shelf leaving some room at the top still. Have you gone in-store to check it out by chance?

  • @JustAnAverageAsian

    Great videos. When traveling does the 30L pass as your carry-on or can it be counted as your personal item and you can bring an additional carry-on suitcase? Due to its size I was just wondering if you would get hassled by the airlines. Thanks.

    • @GoingAwesomePlaces
      @GoingAwesomePlaces  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Nghimo so far I’ve been good to count it as a personal item just like most backpacks would. Now I won’t lie it’s pretty big and sometimes barely fits underneath the seat but I haven’t been hassled yet!

    Can you flatten the bag (20L) a bit when it is sort of empty or it stays at its 'round' shape all the time?

    • @GoingAwesomePlaces
      @GoingAwesomePlaces  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Katherine Wong I would say that it does retain its shape all the time which is what I like about it but if you do want to fully collapse it, take out all the dividers and you it’ll work. What use-case are you thinking right now?

    • @katherinewong1084
      @katherinewong1084 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am tossing between the Wandrd Prvke21 and PD EDB 20L. I m 5"4 tall, looking for a backpack doesn't look overly bulky on everyday use but expandable while travel.

    • @GoingAwesomePlaces
      @GoingAwesomePlaces  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Katherine Wong gotcha! I think the 20L is perfect. It’s a bag that doesn’t feel large or bulky at all. That said I don’t have any experience with the PRVKE21. Is being collapsible to flat something that is super important? I can see you doing that with the PD but really only for transport of the bag inside of another.

    • @GoingAwesomePlaces

      With the 2OL, I just carry my Mavic Pro in the DJI Combo FlyMore black-bag. I find that if I put too much things into the 2OL, too many things can fall out. I’ve the Sony A6500 with Zhiyun Crane Plus, in the 20L.
      Btw, I flew my Mavic Pro on Nov 25, 2018, and have footage of two sections of the Great Wall. 司马台长城,(and awesome video with my GoPro7 Black). 金山岭长城 outside of SE Beijing in Hubei. 12/8/2018 in Beijing.

    Great vids hombre! Question for you and this is probably aimed at the 30L bag. Supposed you have a camera (Fuji xh1), couple of prime lenses, laptop, iPad, and odds and ends. Do you think you could pack two days of clothings too? (Assuming you use the rolling method)? I’d love to use the 30 for a 1 bag travel bag and then then not traveling have it as my day carry. I know there is a bigger travel bag but that would be too big for a daily carry I think. Thanks for the effort in getting all your information out! Chris

    • @GoingAwesomePlaces
      @GoingAwesomePlaces  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey thanks Chris! It depends on how light of a packer you are in terms of clothes for the 30L backpack. I've done something similar for ski trips where I've used the bag to carry 2 days worth of clothes but with that, a lot of it I was wearing since it was the winter and I only had a change of base layers+underwear+PJs. I think a drone would push things over the limit so leave that at home if you have it but camera + lens (2 max) +laptop + iPad + some charging stuff + a few toiletries, you should be fine!

    • @GoingAwesomePlaces
      @GoingAwesomePlaces  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd say the protection is actually pretty good. You have the wings on both sides which have that soft material. The dividers do a great job at keeping all the gear in place and the inner walls of the bag are also finished in that softer felt-like material. Haven't had any issues yet!

    Would the 20L be sufficient for a 5D Mk3 + Grip and a 50mm or 85mm? With enough room for a spare lens?

    • @GoingAwesomePlaces
      @GoingAwesomePlaces  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it'll fit but you'll have to adjust your dividers in the bag within the 20L to give more space for the 5DMK3 with Grip. The body + grip will take the full width of the bag in one divider and the 50/85mm can sit in a second divider. The spare lens may or may not fit in a divider depending on how big it is. If it doesn't fit a divider, you can always put it on the top part of the bag above the dividers and just make sure it is in its own lens case. Hope that helps!

      The truth is the maglatch on the backpack works really well and has safety built in inherently because the only way to open it is to pull down and outwards. There's no additional mechanism to lock it down in place though if that's what you're asking.

    • @GoingAwesomePlaces
      @GoingAwesomePlaces  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a good question. Loose leaf paper is not easy to slot into the laptop compartment because there’s a lot of friction in the materials and it won’t slide in cleanly. Is that what you were wondering about?

    Hi, very nice review! The bag is GORGEOUS DESIGN + FUNCTIONAL COMPARTMENTS = HEAVEN!! I didn't realize that this bag is designed to be a camera bag. I am planning to get this as a gift for my boyfriend for work and gym. Do you have any feedback on using the bag as a gym bag...like going to the gym after work. I was thinking that the divider can be used to compartmentalize the running shoes, workout clothes and lunch.
    Edit - this is for the 20L backpack :)

    • @GoingAwesomePlaces
      @GoingAwesomePlaces  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Rose! Haha definitely organizer heaven here and customizable to what you need. Now I have to be honest, I haven't used the bag as a true gym bag although I have thrown random clothing inside my 30L while travelling. I'm guessing you're thinking about the 20L right? Well I can't see why you couldn't use it as a gym bag because if you make the dividers wide enough, you should be able to easily slot shoes in one compartment and clothes in another. You probably wouldn't need as many dividers as are provided and everything else you'd need for work would most likely just fit through the zippered part of the bag (i.e. laptop, keys, pens, misc stuff).

      Thanks Danny! I don't think that's overkill at all especially because you're bringing 3 lenses + flash. That said, you could in theory pack all that in with a 20L but it would be tight and wouldn't leave you much room for much else.

      If the travel backpack is completely empty I suppose you'd be able to fit in the 20L. 30L wouldn't and at the same time wouldn't make too much sense to put a bag in a bag. What would work really well actually is the 5L Sling. It's the perfect width for the travel backpack.

    Great review! I’m leaning towards the 30L. I’ve seen that the laptop compartment can expand into the bag to some degree. I have a thicker 15” Dell Latitude laptop for work plus a file portfolio... maybe 2.5-3” total thickness. Will the back section expand that much? I’m looking for a sleek, everyday work bag where I can also always have my camera with me. Hoping this bag fits the bill. I love everything I’ve seen so far.

    • @GoingAwesomePlaces
      @GoingAwesomePlaces  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Robert, yes it does (at least for the flights I have been on). It may stick out from the seat in front of you but flight attendants haven't bugged me about that and if I'm travelling with a jacket, I usually just put it over my lap to obscure the bag. You do lose legroom though so that's something you'll have to manage.

  • @8654ZuluFoxtrot
    @8654ZuluFoxtrot 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Let me solve your "main issue" right now. If you know which side is your "go to" side then you simply load your "go to" items accessible when you flip to that primary side. After just a short while of using it you will develop muscle memory and when that sudden opportunity for a great picture presents itself, and you quickly respond with flipping the backpack to it's "go to" side, you will have your camera and lenses you use most ready for action.
    Second issue with no legroom by placing the 30L under the seat in front of you......um, don't put it under the seat in front of you. I fly a lot, and I mean a lot, and I've NEVER had to put things under the seat in front of me....NEVER! I see absolutely ZERO reason why anyone would do this.

    • @GoingAwesomePlaces
      @GoingAwesomePlaces  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good tips for new users for sure! When wearing the bag itself, it's less of an issue because like you said, you eventually develop a comfortable way to swing it around whether it be your left or right side. One thing that I still kind of have trouble with is when I have the bag on the ground and I'm facing it. Remembering which side my camera body is on can be confusing sometimes because how you swing it doesn't automatically click in your head whether it's the left or right flap (if maglatch side is facing you). The longer you travel with the bag the more automatic it becomes but it takes some time for it to register (at least it did for me!)

      I just checked and yes the 15" MBP Retina will fit in as the width of the opening of the top slot is much larger than the width of the Macbook.

    Looks like 20L should also fit the Osmo if you set up a vertical pass through by collapsing the sides of all shelves. I also found out that carrying something like a water bottle in a side pocket really helps me remember which side I have to swing to. :)
    Got myself a 20L one about a month ago (thanks to your reviews, very helpful!) and have been trying its limits a lot. It even fits a 15.6 inch laptop (a really fat one), although it's pretty tight.

      Thanks for watching! Actually you're right, that's a neat trick that you can use that I totally forgot to mention! I discovered it awhile back...good call :)
      Also like the water bottle trick haha...simple but works!
      Impressive you've been able to fit a 15" into the 20L. Been happy with the purchase or thinking about whether you'll need a 30L in the future?

      I don't travel too often, also not very good at it... Still rely on a checked in bag for the most of my stuff :)
      Once I get rid of it I will need a bigger carry on for sure.
      For now 20l works perfectly for me as a daily bag. I don't use it for camera gear, just a bunch of small things, occasionally an action cam and a drone.

      MuffinLauncher careful with checking in of your camera gear. I’m always paranoid about that kind of thing!

    I wonder if you can fit a phantom pro on the 20L 🤔. I know for a fact that you can on the 30L

    • @GoingAwesomePlaces
      @GoingAwesomePlaces  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Justin, I don't have a Phantom Pro but I would be skeptical about fitting one in the 20L unless you're talking about slinging it on the outside of the back using the straps.

    I made the jump to mirrorless a few months back...I think the 20L should be fine for my needs! Thanks for the vid!

      Hopefully this comment is seen by others considering which one to go with. I have an everyday sling 10L. It is *too small* for even a jot down the street if I want a tripod and other camera gear I want to use like a speed light and some magmod gear.
      Yesterday I looked at the 20L. Honestly it doesn't appear to be a whole lot bigger though I know it is. I think I would still long for more space as I tend to spend a few hours out shooting and want the bare necessities along with enough camera gear to feel comfortable with. I too have a mirrorless and though they are small, I want a zoom lens that will do the job along with another lens.
      Based on these reviews I've decided on the 30L because I don't need more than one bag and I'll be prepared for most if not all situations as well as having snacks and whatever other little things that come up. Those little things can add up to more space than you have if your bag isn't big enough.
      Thanks for the review @Going Awesome Places.

      Thanks for dropping your comments here and taking the effort to write so much detail. I agree that 20L should be enough but with the 30L you know you're going to have enough space for whatever type of trip might come your way whether it be something for the day or a multi-day trip. Hope you enjoy the bag!!

      LOL did I say that in this video?? I think in my Zolo video I talked about wine gums and how the zolos look like black wine gums that stick out of my ear. Jaybirds are bluetooth headphones that I used to use but were wired from ear to ear.

    Can you fit 2 mirrorless bodies with lens (16-35 & 24-70mm) attached in the 20L with room for possibly 1 more lens (70-200mm) or a shoe mount flash?

    • @GoingAwesomePlaces
      @GoingAwesomePlaces  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ohh that would be very tight I think. The 70-200 would blow things away because that would take a complete slot at the bottom and the slot above could really only fit one mirrorless body + a smaller lens like a 16-35. If you're then comfortable with having the remaining things in the top open compartment, MAYBE you could? But I would definitely recommend a 30L for your needs

    • @808dms
      @808dms 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Going Awesome Places could just the 2 bodies with lens attached fit (without the 70-200)? I prefer the smaller bag.

    Hi. Since it’s been one year since this video was made, how would you rate it now compared to the time you published the review? Has the 30L EDB aged well?
    I’m interested to know if it’s durable and would last for an extended period of time.
    Thanks

    great comparison! I will be carrying a mavic 2 with controller, iPad mini, a canon rebel with 2-3 lenses, a 15 MacBook Pro, accessories for all things mentioned prior and I would like to also fit a textbook or notebook in it as well. Do you think the 20L is capable or is the 30L my best bet?

    • @GoingAwesomePlaces
      @GoingAwesomePlaces  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for dropping a comment Michael! I think for all the things you got there since you've got drone + camera + misc., the 30L is going to be your best bet. With the 20L you're going to have to make sacrifices on lenses and the number of drone batteries you bring for sure. Hope that helps!
