    I very much appreciate this comparison and review. Personally I wouldn't be looking to travel backpack as an edc. But for every other purpose, I love how versatile in size and ability and looks it can be. That being said, and combined with the entire Peak Design line up, I'm def sold on the travel backpack. i would probably invest in the packing cubes, small and medium, and the tech pouch possibly. For an edc though, Im all about a sling bag. Chrome has a couple of great slings that can fold down really small. Although recently I have been slightly obsessed with the idea of the 10L everyday sling. My only issue is how well it might or might not fit inside of this travel backpack... otherwise, being a photographer/videographer, I can't wait to invest in this line, and those particular bags that I mentioned.

      I was thinking the same. Peak design everyday sling 3L or the field pouch double as a sling and tech organiser. So I'm thinking to incorporate that with the travel backpack.

    In terms of weight, how much difference is there between the 20L and the 45L ?
    I currently have the 20 and I do feel like I might want sometimes to use a 1 bag for longer trips or have more options but I'm a small person and I don't want to add too much weight...

    Hey there! I was wondering (since this was back in September) and because you had/are having a long trip in New Zealand whether you could confirm that the 45L is worth it as a holiday bag or whether the 30L will do

    • @GoingAwesomePlaces
      @GoingAwesomePlaces  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Tim! If you're doing a trip to New Zealand, I'd really recommend the 45L for your trip. The reason I say that is because if you plan on doing any extended hikes (Tongariro) AND you have any sort of camera gear, the 30L will feel really cramped and you'll start having to make sacrifices on what to bring which isn't ideal.
      The case for 30L is if you really just need something for short walks from the car park if you're road tripping around and if you don't have camera and lenses to bring around.
      I hope that helps!

    So if you could only get one of these for everyday use plus use as a carry on, would you get the 45L or 30L????

    How does the packing cube fit into the 30 liter backpack

    • @GoingAwesomePlaces
      @GoingAwesomePlaces  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey! Okay so I tried fitting the medium packing cube in there and it doesn't fit the best. Another viewer had a similar question and I tried to do a test of fitting it on the top compartment of the bag and you can squish it in but the width of the medium cube is larger than the bag. Clothes are luckily compressible and flexible so you can make it work but it's not a perfect fit.

    I already backed for the travel line 45l with a small camera cube. I’m sure it will work perfectly for traveling. However, I’m deciding if I should add a 20l Everyday backpack with the shipment. Now, I’m also looking for a backpack I can use everyday. Do you think the 45l is too bulky to be an everyday backpack? Will you continue using your 20l one? By the way, I’m 5 ft 9 in.

  • @Aldissimo90
    @Aldissimo90 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I actually do have a question. The top part of the everyday pack is not sealed. There is just the closing clip but it does not really close properly. Isn't too risky if you go to very dust or sandy places? I have the feeling that dust and sand can easily get in the everyday pack, which to me is more the city-only pack. Do you also recognize that the travel line is the only one the two that tolerates proper outdoor activity?

  • @MisterChibs
    @MisterChibs 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Perhaps leave the small camera cube at the bottom of the bag (off the c clips). This way you could fit the medium packing cube above it and the weight of your heavy camera gear is more centred while closer to your hips.

    • @GoingAwesomePlaces
      @GoingAwesomePlaces  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes this is probably true although that really does defeat the purpose of the bag for me mainly because I need side access for this bag to be worth it for me. But everyone's different of course. It is a possibility!

    • @MisterChibs
      @MisterChibs 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea I totally get that it defeats the purpose of side access. I ended up ordering the medium camera cube set. So if I have a shoot in the woods for example, I can work out of that which is really nice. For traveling, I like keeping the gear I bring light and simple. Because of this I'll opt out of camera cubes in this use case. I like the idea of having space for a medium packing cube and my camera in a little case (like Thinktank digital holster) I can then chuck that in a small packable backpack (like ynot deploy bag) or scrap the camera case and use a sling of some sort. The small camera cube is prohibitive in that you can't wear it on your waist when it's out of the bag and imo looks awkward worn as a sling with a slide strap. So that's my config but appreciate everyone has different needs. Lots of options!! Oh and I'm almost positive I know that park in your intro! Right next to the Esso with the Tim Horton's drive through. Small world!!

  • @angeloralph3304
    @angeloralph3304 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    lol, why didn't you just mount the cube for back access instead of side access
    edit, or you could have put the clothes in the front space, and moved the other stuff around

    • @GoingAwesomePlaces
      @GoingAwesomePlaces  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it's possible although I really do need the backpack set up for side access because otherwise this is just another back access bag for me. Alternatively, like you said, I could've put the clothes in the front compartment and there's space for it especially if it's expanded.

    thanks :)

  • @thatchanguy
    @thatchanguy 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    How do the straps and waist belt feel when fully loaded? I'm used to the GORUCK series of packs and am comparing the 45L Peak Design Travel pack vs. the GORUCK GR3. Thanks!

    • @GoingAwesomePlaces
      @GoingAwesomePlaces  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Chris! Not familiar with GORUCK but I just came back from a pretty serious trip to AUS/NZ where I filled the bag to the max with camera gear and I had a chance to do a 9 hour hike with it as well albeit with a much lighter load. My point of comparison is really only with the 30L Everyday Backpack and the Travel Backpack di a much better job with comfort and spreading the weight thanks to the redesigned waist strap. Once I had that locked in, I could feel less of the weight on my shoulders and into my torso instead. One knock is that the padding on the straps could be thicker for sure as I felt that after 9 hours with sweat that they almost compressed a little under that much intense stress since it's just basic foam under there but it is slightly thicker than the Everyday Backpack so I have to be thankful for that. I know that's not a direct comparison to GORUCK but my observations from this trip. Room for improvement but definitely a capable travel bag for on-the-go travel, camping, and trekking.

      The Travel Backpack is a sizeable bag and I’ve used it for big trips like to New Zealand, Egypt, and filming projects all around as well. Where it’s not as great is if you’re doing a big trek like my recent trip to Patagonia but with the large camera cube it can store a lot of gear.

      @@zackfernandez3226 the 30L could work but you’d have to be quite the minimalist. Depends on how long your trip is and whether you’re bringing a separate suitcase? As a day pack the 30L is great and I’ve brought clothes and toiletries with it for a one night trip but typically nothing longer.

I heard about them awhile ago but never pursued their products as ultimately there just wasn't much of a focus on photography which is what I find with most backpack manufacturers which is why I appreciate what Peak Design has done here. The only other ones I can think of are the standard players like LowePro or niche companies like f-Stop.

    Great comparison! My one concern about the 45L backpack is that if you pack all your electronics in it and the flight is full and runs out of overhead bin space, it does not fit under the seat too well. I would not want to check a bag with thousands of dollars worth of tech in it. Some airlines are stricter than others in terms of dimensions of "personal item" under a seat. Ever dealt with that you your travels with the 45L?

    Thanks for the comparison. I watched this 3 years later because I am considering buying a 45L travel backpack to replace my 30L everyday backpack. Because I assume, say if I go out without needing to take any photos, it could be really convenient to just remove the camera pack instead of taking out each photography gear one by one.
