    Thank you for proving that paper works just as well as a stabilizer for projects....I learned this a long time ago and mentioned it once to a lady that I also use paper notebook or computer or newspaper when I embroidery.... She went crazy...but can't tell the difference if shown one with $$stabilizer and one with paper...You made my day .love your videos.

    Love the hints for appliqué 😊 Here in Australia we oldies don't "do" Halloween but it's becoming popular with younger people! Nor do we have Thanksgiving, but it's wonderful how you can reverse to cover both of your festivals. Another great video! You're definitely the Best!

    • @Sasslette
      @Sasslette 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Halloween is trying hard to make it's appearance here but isn't as popular as in the USA and UK. We don't have Thanksgiving as we are not American, we have Australia Day, January 26 with our thongs, stubbies and beer! I'd love to see a table runner made like that!

    Hi Donna,Made this with my 9year old friend I’m teaching to sew. So far she has sewn 2 of them, and has done really well, much better than I thought she would do. She wants to continue making 3more even though Halloween has finished. Thank you for this pattern. We have both learned a lot from your video, and the free pattern is awesome! We modified the mouth so she could appliqué it easier, due to her inexperience. Again, many thanks.

    Thanks for a great tutorial. I have watched all your tutorials at least once. They are well done without a bunch of sillyness.I made these and gave them to my son for his birthday. My four year old grandson informed that I should have used yellow fabric instead of black because jack-o'-lanterns have light inside. He suggested I still use black tread to so the yellow and orange don't blend too much. I told him that made sense but for some reason jack-o'-lanterns are usually made with black. Maybe next time.😀 I hope to make the Christmas tree napkins soon. Maybe I should get his input first.😀

    Just made one and it is so much fun!! And easy! You've given us 4th of July, Halloween and Thanksgiving and I'm sure I can make Christmas from another of your patterns for placemats. I think I have my Christmas gifts planned for a lot of the family. Thank you Donna for the gift of your talent. I absolutely adore you and your no nonsense approach to teaching. Oh, I forgot about Easter. Maybe the Cotton Rainbow?

    Really love your videos. Why do you prefer 80/20 batting compared to 100% cotton? Also, do you sew with cotton thread or polyester? Thanks for inspiring and teaching us!

    • @jordanfabrics8380
      @jordanfabrics8380  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I use polyester thread to sew and quilt with. I like having just a bit of the polyester in the batting because I have found it to be more durable and I don't have to quilt quite as closely if I don't want to.

    Love these! What are the measurements of the placemat? I already downloaded the table runner and was planning on using that for a placemat pattern, but these look larger. Am going to sew with a 9 year old friend next week and make some of these. She is just learning to sew, and we meet about every two weeks. Thought this might be a good project for her, with some modifications. Mainly making the mouth less difficult. Any advice you can make will be greatly appreciated.

    I do a lot of satin stitching, and I found out, that if you want it really dense, so that in no case whatsoever any threads of your appliqued piece can show, you can do two rounds: first round with not *that* short of a stitchlength and maybe even a little less wide, and a second round with really short stitchlength and a bit wider. I like for the first round a width of 3.5mm and length of 0.5 and then, for the second turn I set my machine to 5mm stitchwidth and 0.3 length. That gives a nice 3D-effect 😉
