I have found my new favorite U-tube teacher! Not a lot of useless babbling that is too common on other sites, yet the camera work and the detail is perfect. You are efficient in your detail and still fast. I am an experiences sewer and I appreciate the good use of my time to learn from you.
I am just finishing up my tree skirt using this pattern. I think it's turning out very nice ~ I cut my diamonds at 4" and the squares at 8" to make it a smaller version. Turned out great! I'm at the point where I am layering it with the batting and backing... My finished size will be about 48". Your tutorial is wonderful! and you are a great teacher! My only thought is that I wish there was more direction on which way to press each seam so that the finished product is as smooth and flat as possible. Thank you very much for this pattern.
❤ You are succinct in your instruction, yet always manage to give helpful tips. The videography is quick with detailed editing, allowing the viewer to see everything needed without unnecessarily long, repeated ‘yawns’. There is no boring chitty-chat about the weather or someone’s grandmother’s bunions. Since subscribing, I have dropped a half dozen or more other quilting UT’ers. Love your channel!
Every time I watch one of your videos I feel like I’m attending sewing school! I ALWAYS learn something. Never payed much attention to the grain of the fabric. Thank you Donna💕
Donna, you're so generous to share all of your beautiful creations with us. And I completely agree with some of the other commenters, you make it look so easy! The best part is, you make it so do-able! Thank you!
Oh the dreaded y seam. I had to stop watching when I heard that. Gave myself a few minutes to calm myself, then finished watched. Excellent tutorial. I appreciate the tip of placing the red colors toward the outside. I would not have thought of that.
I made one of these in the large size and also made one half scale. They both turned out perfect and my daughters were pleased with their early Christmas presents!
I am often heard by my crafting friends that, "You Tube is my teacher" and you are my favorite one. Thank you, so much for sharing your patterns and creativity.
I am a novice quilter and this tutorial was great! I just finished my tree skirt this morning, one day before Christmas. It looks amazing...if you don't look too closely 😂. Thank you for the clear instructions!
I made this tree skirt last year, for my daughter and her family. She just loved it! Making 17:16 another this year for my son and family. Thanks so much for your wonderful patterns and easy instructions!!
How did you know that I needed a new tree skirt? Lol. Thank you for another great tutorial. Heading off to the fabric store to get supplies. Thank you again! Donna for another great tutorial.
This was my very first quilt ever and it was for my mother's fabulous family Christmas tree. Actually came out gorgeous. It will pass down through the generations. Now a subscriber and learning to quilt. Thank you. Love your videos!
Donna, I 💕 this! I went out to my Joann’s immediately and bought fabrics, came home .... pressed & cut, and made my first quadrant. I have a deadline of next weekend when my boyfriend and I put up trees and decorate. I’ve watched this video multiple times as I work through the project. My 1st Y seams came out perfectly. Thank you!
Donna, I agree with the comments here. The one thing I REALLY admire about your teachings is that YOU EXPLAIN things just as though someone is watching AND/OR learning from you for the VERY first time....The fact that you explain in EACH video WHY you use a hand weight to make sure your rulers don't move is a wonderful thing to the NEW Quilter!! Again, I love your videos.....you and Matt both make quilting seem so much fun and I'm positive you've taught so many people to love sewing and quilting!!! Thanks so much for ALL you do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know thisnis weird, but when my mom used to sew, when I was young, I loved the sound of the scissors cutting fabric on the table. When you were cutting the backing, it reminded me of this.
Hi Donna, you are absolutely fantastic! The planning and making of the tree skirt is as close to perfection as anyone could wish for. Everything you do is done with care and enjoyment which I am sure affects your viewers. Thank you for all the beautiful quilts you have made. You have definitely been very good for me! Best wishes 🌷🌷🌷
So grateful to u and ur generous heart to share these beautiful creations, Donna. God bless u and everything u do. U give a very warm and personal touch to ur teachings, thank u.
Donna, I watched this tutorial today, ran into my sewing room, picked out Christmas fabrics from my stash and as of writing this comment, I am almost done piecing the top! The fabrics you used are absolutely stunning! I will email you a photo of my tree skirt when finished. You are one of the BEST teachers in the quilting tutorial world. Thank you!
@@micheleklein9075 I just tried to copy/paste picture here and it does not work....I have no idea how else to post mine here. Sorry, I tried! Thank you for asking about it though!
After stumbling across this no nonsense, easy to follow video a little over a year ago, I got a copy of the free pattern and made my daughter a tree skirt for her first Christmas in her new home with her new husband. I LOVED this pattern so much so that I'm making one for myself this year. My daughter's was done with Nightmare Before Christmas fabrics (her favorite) however mine will be with Christmas fabrics I recently bought from Jordan Fabrics... Excited to nestle mine around my tree soon!
Thank you for showing so many great techniques. You are using the cutting board, and many quick sewing procedures. You are simplifying many projects. Thank you 💐🤩
I found making the tree skirt was tricky putting and making the diamond points meet just perfect, some how watching your video over and over has helped so much . I did have more trouble at end on putting squares in , then it dawned on me that I wasn’t leaving enough seem allowance on the very edge of my fabric for the other side ,to meet up with the other side, then it came together fine. just wanted to point that out so someone else doesn’t make the same mistake. I did ,it cost time. I just love tree skirt so far ! Still working on it , but I can tell how beautiful already its going to be! 12:3012:31
Dona thank you SO much to share your easy patterns; I’m in Colombia South America and here we don’t have a stores like yours to get the beautiful fabrics but I’m lucky to have my daughters there, went they come to visit me I always ask for fabrics, I hope to visit your store next year and get touns of fabrics for my stash. Thank you again I’m learning a lot from your tutorials.
I made this tree skirt and it came out beautiful. I'm a beginner, just started this past February 2020, but with Donna's encouragement and teaching skills it came out really nice, I did practice Y seams with Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts first. A big THANK YOU to Donna for her attention to detail and Matt for his cutting and ironing board suggestions. I am learning more each time I watch a video from Jordan Fabrics.
Thank you for sharing your design and teaching talents with us. You do all the hard work then teach us how to make beautiful items and we relish the Oohs and Aws when we show people what we made. And, on top of that you give away beautiful quilts and wall hangings.
I think this is one of the most technically informational videos you've made. The info about bias cuts and getting the grain to line up consistently is something I've never seen explained thoroughly before. On a weird side note, when I can't sleep at night, I've found that turning your videos on at a very low volume helps me drift off. The sound of Donna's gentle, even voice and the hum of the sewing machine is very calming, like being a kid who's gone to bed and the parents are still quietly busy in another room.
I really enjoy watching your video's. I have learned so much. Thanks for helping me become a better quilter. PS. Hope your Not getting to affected by the wildfires. Please stay safe, And Healthy.
Wow Never too old to learn something new I would have never considered the grain line on diamonds Thank you for making me aware of that aspect. Been sewing over 40 years and still don’t know everything. Thankful for your great videos
Girl! you make me want to move to Oregon! What a sweet life you have there doing what you love and passing your craft and love onto us! Christmas Blessings to you and yours. Thank you for another year of wonderful video's and fabrics!
Hello Donna, I wanted to say thank you for all of your excellent tutorials. I really enjoy your no nonsense presentations and have learned a lot from you. I completed two tree skirts to give to each of my daughters this past Christmas. I have also made a couple of the Christmas tree wall hangings and three of the related Valentine wall hangings. Keep the fantastic tutorials coming. Rockville, Maryland
Hi Donna I watch your videos regularly. Loved your Christmas tress shirt. This is the first time I have made anything like this and must say I am very happy with the end result. There are a couple of mistakes but you have to send time looking for them. I have told quite a few ladies about your website. Keep up the tutorial. It's a shame you don't ship your lovely fabrics to New Zealand.
So thankful for all of the videos you present here, making the quilting community engaged in making our homes and hearts connected through a lifelong tradition.
Hello from sunny Scotland, UK. Thank you so much for this wonderful tutorial. This is the best explained and well described tutorial I have ever seen. I have made loads of round tree skirts but I am going to make this one because it is so stunning and unusual. I have been quilting for many years and very much appreciate the amount of thought and work that you put into this tutorial. Thank you.
That's beautiful Donna. I've been looking for so long for a tree skirt. They all look to difficult but with your tutorial you've made it look easy. Thanks for all at Jordans fabric and happy Christmas x Kathleen. ENGLAND
Beautiful colors! I'm no go at sewing, so I come to your channel for inspiration. Really love the things you make. I think the stuffed dog and cat pillow families is the limit of my abilities, lol.
Oh man! Now I know why my diamonds never lined up right!! Thank you for that! I’ve been so frustrated with these on other quilts. This made so much sense!
Beautiful tree skirt and brilliant explanation of cutting diamonds also of fitting Y seams. I think I've probably watched all your videos now, so keep them coming, please.
Yet again Jordan family you have surpassed yourselves, camera work is first class, Donna, a wonderful choice of fabrics and your sewing ability is faultless, best tutorials on u-tube. The tree skirt is fabulous, thank you so much yet again
Oh Donna, i just absolutely love the tree skirt and the materials are fantastic. I love each and every fabric you have used in this gorgeous project. How i wish i lived across where you are because i would be addicted to coming in your shop just to look at all the gorgeous materials that are there. STUNNING!!! And to your "wee" boy, thank you so very much for your talent in filming your mum making this stunning piece of art, your shots were absolutely superb in every detail. The log cabin quilt would be lovely either in a male only house(giving it a touch of feminity about it) or in a classic bedroom where the husband is fed up with flowers all the time, lol. It is beautiful flower and such a wonderful, warm hearted thing to do for someone. Your kindness in everything you do from sharing your time, talent to every little thing and help you give is so very much appreciated by this Scot. You are absolutely amazing. I don't quilt yet, but I'm sure when I get a chance to try I will remember your teachings. And, if I don't remember, I know just where to find you!!!! Thank you so much!!!
Dear Donna & Matt, Thank you so much for this wonderful Christmas Gift! What a perfect tree skirt to make for my family members. I plan to do Santa's for the families with small children and Christmas motif fabrics for the families with older children. I am hopeful that this will become a family keepsake that the children will someday say, "My Grandmother made this for us!" You and Matt are so generous with sharing all your knowledge and love of sewing with us.....Thank you. Kath
I watched this before but now I’m ready to actually make it. I’m thinking this skirt with matching placemats and napkins. I’m so excited. You make this seem so simple. Thank you so much. 🙏
This pattern was so much fun to make. I had a customer approach me to make this particular tree skirt pattern. I was hesitant with the angles. The way you taught how to make them was GENIUS! I took a class before Covid on angles and came away more confused. You have made me a believer in this method. THANK YOU! Can't wait to view your other videos.
I always enjoy your teaching videos, but this one was especially helpful. The "Y" seam demo was great,, as well as showing us how to construct the diamond shapes together. Great video and one beautiful tree skirt. Thanks Donna.
This is a beautiful project. Thank you for your detail on Y seam construction. I no longer fear the “Y”. You’re the best, Donna. I appreciate you and your inspiration.
Great tip on Sewing with bias and Y seams. Your a great teacher Donna. Never pushing special rulers or fabric's. You make it about learning, so refreshing. Love the fabric and tree skirt. Any kits available with the same fabric's???
Kirsten Little-Smith I want to say thankyou for your lovely tutorials. I look at Jordon Fabrics every day. I just ordered two packages of Splendid Moda to make those lovely place mats for Christmas. You and your husband seem to be so nice. Thankyou for sharing. I could’t have managed this without your help. The christmas skirt is so beautiful! Kind regards from Helsingborg Sweden
Donna, you are so talented and everyone is correct, you are so generous to share your beautiful work with us and sharing your patterns. Not too many others do that. I told my friends that as soon as this pandemic is over, we're going to Grants Pass to visti you.
I have admired this pattern for the last year. I finally got the nerve to try it. I replayed the tutorial with each section. I'm looking forward to making another. Thank you so much.
You've got me rethinking my colors for Christmas! That skirt is gorgeous. I'm a beginner but think I could do this. There is so much for me to learn. I can't wait to get started. Thank you so much Donna. :)
Love this pattern. I've paid my ripping dues on this one. 😀. Thank you for the great video. I've watched it many times while sewing this skirt. It's very helpful.
I made this for my granddaughter as a housewarming for her new house. It was fairly easy, thanks to the tutorial and turned out great. I used blue, grey and white with silver embellishments.
I love watching your videos, you’re a great teacher. I’m amazed by all of your beautiful quilt patterns you so generously share and get excited when you post something new. As a beginner with no sewing experience, I’m learning so much. Thank you.
As a new quilter I especially appreciate the information on keeping the grain of the fabric the same with the diamond shape. I've been sewing for 50 years, but never considered this fact for quilts. Thank you and it is a beautiful tree skirt!
Donna, I have learned so much from you. Your techniques have helped me to organize my block, learn not to press and stretch my fabric and I love how you show to line you jelly roll strips on a straight ruler to iron. Well I could go on and on. My budget is small so I can’t order all I want to, but you’re so infectious to watch. Thank you so much for everything, and my list is long!!! I know we all love the look of quilting, but it goes so much deeper than that. It’s an adventure your mind goes on to see the fabrics, the pattern, the quilting, like an amusement park!!
As usual, another very well done tutorial. Donna, you make EVERY pattern look so easy to accomplish, that even beginning quilters shouldn't hesitate for a second to go for their favorite !!!! Thank you for all your efforts on these projects.
Thank you for this tutorial. I have been looking for instructions to make a tree skirt. This is perfect and so beautiful. You explained it very clearly. The tips you gave will be very helpful in all my future projects.
Yes,I agree that you are very kind and generous to share your patterns. You really help me to learn and enjoy quilting so much. You are such a gifted and talented person. Thank you!
Donna, you have a great teaching style and I have become a more relaxed & accurate quilter because of you. Just wanted to send along my gratitude for who you are and what you do.
As a new quilter, I've never seen a "Y" seam sewn. Thank you for showing this. And thank you for all of your tutorials. I have learned so much and have been inspired by them! Happy Holidays to you and yours!
I have watched this video several times. Donna is an excellent teacher. I purchased all my fabric and can’t wait to make this for my granddaughter and her fiancé for their new house. I printed out the directions. Is there directions to make this tree skirt slightly smaller, 62” seems rather large for their small house. I really love it❤

I love that Donna teaches us to use our basic supplies, like the markings on our cutting mats and doesn’t try to sell us new rulers or template sets!!

I have admired this pattern for the last year. I finally got the nerve to try it. I replayed the tutorial with each section. I'm looking forward to making another. Thank you so much.
Donna, Thank you so much for this tutorial! Your an amazing teacher!
Great project and excellent teaching. Best editing I have seen.
You've got me rethinking my colors for Christmas! That skirt is gorgeous. I'm a beginner but think I could do this. There is so much for me to learn. I can't wait to get started. Thank you so much Donna. :)
Karen Presley keep watching Donna’s videos. You will be fantastic in now time!
@Karen S I've been doing a bit of binge-watching here and there. :)
Seasoned quilter here and enjoy your videos so much! Especially the reasons for the bias seams
Wow! The hand weight tip is a game changer for me!!
OMG! Great job Donna! From Brazil !
Love this pattern. I've paid my ripping dues on this one. 😀. Thank you for the great video. I've watched it many times while sewing this skirt. It's very helpful.
I love watching your videos! You are an excellent teacher who makes it look so easy!!
You make it look so easy. This is beautiful.
I made this for my granddaughter as a housewarming for her new house. It was fairly easy, thanks to the tutorial and turned out great. I used blue, grey and white with silver embellishments.
Dear Donna, you are so gifted and I feel privileged that I can learn from you. Thank you.
Wow! Absolutely wonderful & perfectly clear instructions, especially working with the diamonds❣
Thank you for sharing! I learn so much with every tutorial I watch.
I love watching your videos, you’re a great teacher. I’m amazed by all of your beautiful quilt patterns you so generously share and get excited when you post something new. As a beginner with no sewing experience, I’m learning so much. Thank you.
Thank you for another awesome pattern and tutorial. You explain so well in your videos.
I've made two of these this year and they are easy to make. Thanks for sharing this. My daughter's Loves them too.
Thank you!

Great looking tree skirt! Thanks for sharing with us.
Beautiful fabrics and wonderful pattern!
Donna, you have a great teaching style and I have become a more relaxed & accurate quilter because of you. Just wanted to send along my gratitude for who you are and what you do.
I made 3 tree skirts this year. They are so pretty. Thank you for all your help.
Would not have even thought of making them without you and your crew
As a new quilter, I've never seen a "Y" seam sewn. Thank you for showing this. And thank you for all of your tutorials. I have learned so much and have been inspired by them! Happy Holidays to you and yours!
I have watched this video several times. Donna is an excellent teacher. I purchased all my fabric and can’t wait to make this for my granddaughter and her fiancé for their new house. I printed out the directions. Is there directions to make this tree skirt slightly smaller, 62” seems rather large for their small house. I really love it❤
