  • Thank you so much Erin! Wow, would you look at these amazing shell from Mexico! A lot of these species are also found in North America too, or further south in South America. Needless to say; they're not shells that I've ever seen in Australia! A lot of them are shells that I've never seen before in my life, so this made for a wonderfully unique experience.
    Once again, I want to give a big thank you to Erin; she sent these shells to me as a gift - one that hold a lot of sentimentality for her. These shells were originally bought or collected from Mexico over 20 years ago during a childhood trip, and I am so honoured and grateful that she has parted with such beautiful shells. They will be treasured here in Australia.
    Thank you (yes, you who is reading the description!) so much for watching something different today, and of course, let me know if you have a favourite too? There are so many great shells to choose from - I'm quite partial to the Florida Horse Conch, Apple Snail, and the white Olive shell, WOW!!

    Yay! That was so fun! I'm glad everyone enjoyed the shells! Getting to share them with you and your viewers is way better than having them just sitting in a box here. And don't worry, I still have plenty of extras of all those shells still in my collection. Thanks for being part of the fun everyone!

      G'day Erin 👋🏻💖 I know I've said all of this already, but I'm still absolutely blown away by these shell 😲 I can't believe you sent such treasures to me! Even saying that you have extras; this is still a big deal for you to have sent me so many beautiful mementos of your childhood trip. I think I few people here might even be thinking planning a shelling trip to Mexico next (just kidding, but maybe 😂)? Thank you so, so much for giving these shells to me, and for letting me share the unboxing here. This was an absolute joy in every way possible... and don't think I didn't notice how that Apple Snail is the same one from your shell display photo from last year when you shared the giveaway shell picture, gosh, this was a really personal "bonus shell"!! Words cannot easily say how grateful I am to you for doing this for me. Thank you so much ❤️🥰💖 and thank you for sharing and supporting my passion for shells as well 🐚 my world has changed so much (for the better) over the last two years: thank you for being a part of that 🙏🏻

    Hi Maddie, how kind of Erin to send the lovely shells. I loved the hand drawn map in the box. I think the smaller of the two nerite was my favourite, loved the grey and black markings. Nature is amazing!

      G’day Alison 👋🏻💖 Erin is incredibly generous - I know that if it was me in her position, well, I’d have so much trouble parting with any one of these shells from such a precious childhood trip! Thank you for your lovely words; I think she would have loved reading them too ❤️ Oh wow, I think that little Virgin Nerite was a crowd favourite this time; it was small but mighty! Thank you again for your lovely comment, and for watching this big unboxing 🥰

      G’day Kim 👋🏻🏖️ Hmm a bleach bath on the top shell… I think the Turban/Top shell will remain the same, but I have a theory that the Price Cone will have a bit of a transformation!! As for the Horse Conch, I think I like how the periostracum gives the shell come colour contrast 🤩 it will stay on, perhaps 😉 Oh gosh yes, Erin is incredibly generous to part with your shell treasures, and then send them all the way to me on the other side of the world. G'day Jan 👋🏻💖 I've never seen a Comb Venus before, so I was quite surprised by it!! It's a wonderful shell, and the little Nerites too! I looked up some information about that tiny Virgin Nerite: apparently it's a common enough shell all around the coast of Florida! I wonder why I never see the Florida shellers finding them? It seems like a shame 😅 or maybe they are around the mangroves instead of the beaches 🤔 in any case, I feel like I've received some very precious and sentimental shells from Erin. I’ve never seen anything like them. The chione shell was gorgeous! I’m glad Erin sent you an apple snail. I’ve only found one and absolutely love it! 🍎🍏🍎 I hope I find more someday to share with you. I really enjoyed opening this box with how she arranged it 🤩 and of course, I loved the shells that she parted with to send to me. Oh wow, so even you haven’t seen the Panamic Comb Venus before!?? I guess it’s on the wrong side of the gulf… it won’t wash up in Texas 🥲 I honestly love all of the shell, but I was the most surprised by the Apple Snail! I didn’t know such a thing existed! So you found one too; did you find it at the beach or in the…woods? I almost wrote ‘bush’ because that’s what you call the woods over here!! I’m too scared to go fossicking in the bush for snail shells; I reckon a snake will get me 🤣!! I have shells that I want to share with you first, ahh, one day!! The Comb Venus is absolutely stunning 🤩 I have no idea how they managed to wash ashore all intact like that. Oh goodness, and that Wavy Chione is so lovely too. It only takes 1-2 drops of mineral oil to shine a shell if you spread it around using an old toothbrush. It’s very quick and gets into all the grooves without dripping or covering your hands

They as re not land snails they are freshwater snails longer than 15 minutes out of the water they die. I love your enthusiasm for these gifts from heaven. Have been a lover of them for many years. G'day Kathryn 👋🏻🐌 hello to you in Missouri! Ohhh thank you for the information! The card for the Apple Snail did say that it's a freshwater snail, but I mistakenly called it a land snail several times! Oh, Florida horse snail Triplofusus giganteus, nice whole shell, large, old snails usually have a lot of damage to the shell.
    Prince cone 👑 is a good, not often found cone, probably due to the fact that it lives far from both you and me, here it is quite large.
    Hysteroconcha lupanaria🤩, congratulations Maddie! Beautiful, it was also a symbol of the shell show, an excellent addition to the collection👍

      the second species of the genus Triplofusus.
      No Maddie, I don’t have Hysteroconcha lupanaria in my collection, but it is such a well-known and to some extent iconic shell ✨ that I know it and it is quite rare here🤗. In general, I have very few bivalves, only tridacni, it seems lofa, and some other prehistoric bivalves.

    • @SandCoffeeRocks
      @SandCoffeeRocks  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      G’day Oceanluvn Gal 👋🏻💖 Did you end up finding any Mexican shelling videos? I think TH-cam will mostly show your videos based on your language and location, so it might be harder than expected to find videos with other languages, though Spanish is quite a big part of the USA, so you might have a better chance than stumbling into a Japanese shelling video (which I sorta found the other day??) Ahh, I have digressed. Oh wow, so the Virgin Nerite was your favourite 😍 I looked it up on iNaturalist; the Virgin Nerite is apparently a moderately common shell all around Florida?? I wonder why the Florida shelling videos never have them? Maybe they’re only a mangrove snail? 🐌 All I know is the Erin was incredibly generous to send these shells to me!! @SandCoffeeRocks I am from Canada, not the USA, so Spanish is rare here and French is common. Good point about language being a barrier to finding shelling videos from Mexico. I found a couple by Americans visiting Mexico, but more of a travel video style, not informative about what they found. I tend to have a lot of accounts/videos suggested by TH-cam that are from Japan and the Philippines, maybe because both of those countries have close ties to my part of Canada, Prince Edward Island.

    That was great! Lettered olives prey on coquina clams in the surf zone and then scavenge when the opportunities arises--from a shelling book I have :-) The horse conch is like "teenage size" lol they get up to like 18-20"!! I was just speaking with a friend last night about how people say "conch"...we all say "con-K" and you all say it "con-CH" but I've never heard anyone say it like that over here....toe-MAY-tow, toe-MA-tow (tomato) I guess, lol. I appreciated the different dialect. I LOVE how you all say the Z's

    • @SandCoffeeRocks
      @SandCoffeeRocks  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      G'day Roxanne👋🏻💖Ahhh so the Lettered Olived go after the Coquina clams! That's really cool to know; I thought they mostly ate other snails, rather than other molluscs, but this makes more sense. "Teenage size" also makes heaps of sense for the Horse Conch too, and I have seen photos/videos of the super large ones - they're just crazy huge 😂 Hehe, but Australia is the country with the largest seashell, so move aside Florida Horse Conch 😂 Don't mind me, I'm not competitive at all! Also, why do you all say "conk"? Oppositely, I think I've only ever heard the US shellers call a conch a conk. Very interesting indeed! Oh, a question, has this inspired you to do a shelling trip in Mexico? Actually, I think your Caribbean Island must have so many more amazing shells to see? Anyhoo! Some people say, "Natica" which is actually correct and not sure how "Nautica" with a "u" got started...but I'm sure it's just different dialect. I say "Nautic". but anyways lol. The video I am dropping this Sunday is Sanibel after a winter storm and man there were SO many horse conch shells full grown size ALL over stranded--that was quite something to see! G'day Ingrid 👋🏻🐚 Aww, I'm sorry it makes you cringe 😅 actually, I was looking into this because Florida Beach Walks put a comment somewhere (here?) the other week that mentioned conk vs conch, so I looked into it 🤔 Both are correct if you can believe it 😁! As it turns out, "conk" is American English, and "conch" is British English. As an Australian, I prefer to use British English in my writing and pronunciation, such as: colour vs color, or "zehbra" vs your "zeebra" - its all correct depending on your region. Furthermore to support this, my online research indicated that people who preferred "conk" as the pronunciation are almost exclusively from the USA or Caribbean area (at least on the English speaking website forums and dictionary pages/videos that I checked), but "conch" seemed to be preferred in a lot of other places around the world. So, once again, I'm sorry to have made you cringe 😂 but I'm going to keep doing it as an Australia who uses British English. Don't hold it against me too much 🤣 and thank you so much for watching this big Mexican Seashell unboxing, I hope you enjoyed seeing some usual and unusual shells from around your side of the world 🥰
